This place feels like it was once awesome, but it's come down to a much lower status. I went there for two different meals, dinner and breakfast. Each experience was drastically different from the other. The bottom line is that the majority of the staff is not properly trained and you can tell there's a morale issue here because most of the employees don't even smile.
That is unfortunate, because the food is overall very, very good, barring a few inconsistencies.
The menu is a first impression of a restaurant in some respects, and this one looks like a high school student put it together using MS Word. For the way that this place looks, I expected much better. The menu should have looked better. ANY template would have been nice to see. This would be an easy win.
Some of the good...
Bus boys will follow you and the hostess to your seat, immediately making sure that you have water.
The ingredients are very fresh and the food tastes great. Breakfast was mostly outstanding, and dinner was even better.
The breakfast menu selection is impressive. A lot to choose from, and a lot of it is original and delicious. The orange juice tastes like they juiced the orange to fill my glass. Exceptional!
The specials in the front of the menu are unique and all sound amazing.
The bartender was excellent. Very nice, pleasant, easy to talk to, and highly respectful. He knew the food and knew his drinks.
The night time manager was great as well as he served me until the bartender got back to the bar. When I arrived, the bartender wasn't there.
Now the bad...
Breakfast
- I have never before been served a single slice when ordering toast
- Half of the (homemade) corned beef hash was cold. Not warm, or kind of warm, COLD.
- When my food came, there was barely room on my table. I was at a 2-person table, and they left the place setting there, forcing me to move everything around and have some of my plates hang off of the edge of the table a bit.
- The server only checked on me once, and it was as I was taking my first bite. How am I supposed to know how anything is going yet?
- Otherwise, the server wouldn't check on me unless I called for her. She would stand off to the side and watch everyone. She didn't visit any table unless they called for her.
- Server didn't know how to describe the food. I literally had to ask her question after question to discover that the pork belly on their menu was simply bacon.
- I was watching table after table get anxious as they tried to get their checks and be waited on. Service was slow.
- Bus boys were attentive to do things like clear empty plates, but were not at all friendly. They didn't respond at all to "hi" or "thank you"
Dinner (at the bar)
- The place was nearly empty. Only one other customer as far as I could see.
- Two of the servers (that apparently didn't have a table to wait on) were watching TV and very loudly commentating on the basketball documentary that was playing about Jordan
- Dinner menu felt small and disconnected. I couldn't tell what kind of cuisine they are trying to be. It was confusing and this made it more difficult to order.
- The manager began to gossip about other employees with the bartender at the bar. This was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. read more
