A night in Kaka'ako is always a fun place to explore, and just be entertained!…read more The Honolulu Night Market at Our Kaka'ako is indeed a fabulous adventure into the biggest street/block party filled to the brim with all things local...food, retail and culture. I've been to so many and each and every one is very unique where you can find either fashion runway stage, live street art, or even a dance night in the barn. I just love the vibe SALT and surrounding Our Kaka'ako brings with the vibrant art we're so blessed to have and this particular night (November 19th) there was actually much more shopping just perfect for the holidays and the party went further down to Ya-ya's. Tonight I was fortunate to have gone after work so I kept it short but found some awesome treats. Some straw toppers to add to my holiday gift giving and some cheesecake cups (OG, Strawberry and Cookie Butter) of course I got one of each to share...ate the Strawberry which of course omg was yummy!! Not too sweet as the Strawberries was just perfect as I tried to get an even scoop of it all in every bite. Walked further down and honestly wasn't in the mood to wait too long for anything found something that would just exactly work for me. Ya-Ya's Chophouse & Seafood and tonight they had two items - Steak Kebabs - Fat Fried Rice with TAB (aka Thick Ass Bacon lol!) I seriously wanted the fried rice but thought that the Steak Kebabs was more sensible for me personally and it came with two kebabs each fully loaded with steak, mushrooms, peppers and onions with a huge scoop of rice! So many options I really was considering including Henna from Henna Happens, Birria Tacos from Dolce Vita, Corn from Corn Onoz Hawaii but though there's always a next time yes!?! I remember pre-pandemic Yelp had a booth here and hoping as things return to normalcy that we'll see it back again one day (hint hint!) Absolutely love this Honolulu Night Market as it offers so many cultural coolness that you can't find anywhere else! Thank you!

There was some live music, but it seemed more like a quick stop for tourists rather than a real night market. I didn't try any food because the atmosphere wasn't appealing, so I left quickly.

Beautifully decorated mall, this is such a wonderful place to shop and explore around!…read moreThere are plenty of boutique stores, familiar retailers, and even a two-story Target that's perfect for picking up unique Hawaiian food souvenirs. Attended their luau here that was booked thru booking.com during my recent Waikīkī stay. While the performers did a great job, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars simply due to the rain that had shortened much of the hula dancing, and I expected more for the price. Disappointed since if they know it frequently rains in Hawaii, they should've been more prepared & already had the canopies set up over our tables. Several dining options at this mall made me smile! I wish I had a much longer vacation to explore more of the eateries here, lol. The food court was decent, offering everything from Hawaiian malasadas at Penny's Waikiki Malasadas to popular spots like L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, Raising Cane's, Panda Express, and more.

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue is a tried and true place for plate lunches and it did not disappoint. The food was fresh and hot - and as a former resident of Oahu, mac salad and rice is a treat. For a burger rush, we ate the Mahaloha burger - certified Angus beef and again, it was hot and delicious. Their fries were great as well. My brother-in-law asked about a malasadas and told him that it is more or less a doughnut but was brought to Hawaii by the Portuguese who came to work the fields back a hundred or so years ago. It's sold all over the islands now. When I lived here in the '70's, a food truck parked itself in a parking lot and people lined up to buy it. When they ran out, that was it until the next time and it was not everyday. Penny's malasadas was good and delicious. It was hot and sooo ono, as we say it in the islands! There's a price to pay for the delicious food though - and it's not cheap! So go try, yeah!

It's not completely Chinese per se because, for example, the Food Hall is more global in scope in order to cater to more international tourists. Filipino, Korean, and Thai eateries are next to burger and burrito stands. There's even a Maguro Brothers outlet offering fresh poke bowls and sashimi plates. Chinese delectables, of course, are fully represented here with popular kiosks dedicated to dim sum and Chinese-style BBQ. Adding to the full Chinatown vibe around the corner is the expansive Open Market where local customers shop for fresh meats, produce, and seafood all out on full display. However, the most inviting space is the outdoor courtyard surrounded by various gift shops and anchored by tables with shade umbrellas and a clock tower. RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? This seemed like a more local, authentic experience. The food shops in the building here made it feel like I was traveling overseas, from the smaller seating area and the fish market. There is a variety of foods, mostly Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, and poke representing. Towards the back there is a fish market, where the fish are so fresh and I guess you could say the displays were beautiful. Outside of the main food court area are some vendors. I didn't get to check out many of them, but they did remind me that of other Chinatown shops in other cities. I loved that this felt so familiar, yet was a new experience!

I tried to go on Sunday but was there too early...LOL! When I walked in the next day, friendly greeting, and I believe the owner, said if I needed any help just ask. This is a really interesting vintage store! There are a lot of cool things but I was just looking for the sunglasses. Me: Are these all the sunglasses you have? He: No, I have a few more styles... He showed me what he also had that was not on display. Picked a great pair, and I'm cool again! LOL! Again, a great place to come to!

Both of our grandparents were born and raised on Oʻahu, and this vintage store brought back so many memories. The owners were incredibly down-to-earth and fun to talk story with. I scored a green palaka shirt that I plan to rock on the beach for Christmas, plus picked up some screen-printed shirts as gifts. There's also an upstairs room with more premium pieces, including collaborations with Japanese brands. Shout out to the cool mom that was buying gifts up there for her son. I've never really been into vintage shopping, but Single Double completely changed my mind. This place was more than just a store- it was an experience, and one I can't wait to revisit.
