Do not ride Megabus!! No matter what you do!! I took Megabus once before and it was a dirty experience. All I remember really was that I got to my destination at least 30 mins late, the wifi was hardly working, everything was dirty, and it was very loud. It looked like it was my only option at the time to get to to my hometown (other than to Lynchburg) so I figured -why not? I'll show you the emails ! Is the company so poor that they can't even refund your money? Even if say, your grandpa accidentally clicked on 40 instead of 4- they will take every cent! Why?- Probably because they are a crappy, grimy company and can't afford to give you your money back when you can not use their service. This is kind of like stealing almost, right? It's like, "yeah, we get it, you don't want to use our service, but we are going to take your money any way no matter what because you were dumb enough to put your credit card information in our site. I'm sorry, I"m not just ranting, I'm generally frustrated that such a company exists with such poor values- if you guys ever expect to make it up to Amtrak level, you need to have better (well, any) customer service and similar policies!!. So here everyone- check out this situation:
and I sent them this email explaining the situation:
I was recently planning a trip X, VA, my hometown for this spring break. I was going to ride with Amtrak today up to DC for a doctor's appointment and then ride to Christiansburg, VA from Washington DC with Megabus tomorrow. However, because of a family situation, I need to stay here in X Consequently, I cancelled my 9:45 am amtrak trip this morning and had no problem doing so (I think I lost $6, but that is fine with me).
I found you information from a post regarding the Megabus refund policy. I started calling at 8:30 am this morning trying to get a refund, and have talked to three different customer service representatives for Megabus. I am familiar with amtrak's cancellation/refund policy, but was not familiar with yours. I can understand that no refund should be given in the case of a "no show" or a trip that is fully booked and cancelled within 24 hours. (i.e. my ticket would cause a loss sales shortage cost).
I'm just a college student here on scholarship at X, working at one of the deli's, so it's not like I have a huge disposable income and am still complaining. However, when I explained my situation I did not expect to get the same flat response every time. So obviously there is no "case by case" basis. I understand that you offer tickets at a low price and you do not want people to abuse the system and try to get refunds when they miss a bus. However, if no exceptions are made, this customer service policy doesn't seem very accomodable. The article I read implied that it was necessary to use social media to get fair customer service, I hope this is not the case. Please let me know if you can do anything.
Best,
My Name
