Round trip DC to NY - the first ride was one hour delayed, no apologize, no nothing. The second trip was the worst nightmare that a traveler can have: again, the bus was late but this felt like nothing compared ti the fact that the bus stopped in Baltimore saying that they have no driver to replace the one that we already had. We were there in the middle of a field and stood there for an hour and a half waiting for .. God knows what. After an hour and a half another bus came to pick us up.. but not all of us .. there were people left there! Finally, with an hour and a half delay we got to DC. Have only used this service once and it will be my last. They are quick not to accommodate a small delay on a customer side as I missed the bus from DC to NYC. The return, the bus was supposed to leave NYC at 5 am and the bus did not show up until 540 am. Leaving us all stranded in temperatures in the 10s. When the bus finally showed up, they wanted to board the passengers that were supposed to leave at 6 versus those of us who have been waiting in freezing temperatures for over an hour. On top of that when I asked the bus driver if he could stop for us to get something warm to drink, he said he was going express. When I requested for him to ensure the heating was running high, he blew me off. We actually had cold air blowing. Awful experience. Spare yourselves! read more

I traveled back and forth between Durham, NC and Washington, DC. Below are the events I noted: 1. Check-in process in Durham is non-existent. If you're not paying attention, you'll miss your bus. Union station was a bit more organized 2. The wifi DOES NOT work. No exceptions. 3. The bus was freezing 4. The drivers were rude, short and difficult to understand. 5. No one explains to passengers reserved vs general seats. You show your ticket and the rude driver just nods or tells you to go. Some seats are reserved and some are not. I witnessed SEVERAL people sit in a reserved seat but then were asked to get up once the passenger who purchased the seat arrived. Musical chairs took up way too much time. 6. Spaces between the seats are too tight. 7. Late/delayed schedules. We rode around D.C. For an hour because the driver was waiting on dispatch to provide directions. Delayed the trip for all subsequent stops. Huge issue. 8. So much foul language noted with passengers on their personal devices. 9. One young lady in Richmond just got on the bus, with not ticket in hand and no shoes on. I'm not sure she was even checked-in. read more

Horrible customer service. Terrible drivers. If you like to get to places on time and want to ride with a service that actually cares for its consumers, do not ever take this bus. I was 4 hours late for my destination and I had to pay extra money to get to my final destination in DC. They are greedy, rude, and unprofessional. No one at the customer service office speaks english. It's a horrible company. Boycott them, ride Greyhound. I have never had these issues with Greyhound. Since they won't refund you, I advise you to dispute this with your credit card company. read more

Buyer beware. I just had one of the most unpleasant bus experiences I've ever had -- NYC to DC trip on July 22. The bus was a half-hour late in loading in NY. As we hit massive traffic and rain, the bus driver actually pulled to the meridian between an exit ramp and the highway and stopped for ten minutes without explanation. When someone on the bus wondered aloud what was going on, she got on the intercom and said, very angrily, "I'm not allowed to make a cell call when I'm driving. I'm pulling off at the next stop and changing drivers." That was it -- no further explanation. When she pulled off near Baltimore, another driver got on. Not only did he not answer anyone's questions, he drove very aggressively to get to DC. We had a number of children on board and this whole trip felt very unsafe. Never ever again. read more

Costumer service is a joke. The bus is often delayed with customer service either cliaming they can't get in contact with the driver to locate it or that it was canceled and didnt notify anyone. Ive been in a bus that had broken down in the middle of thw highway and had to wait 2 hours for another one to arrive. Which we were only compisated $15. When they stoped using the shotty megabus bus (the ones with the actually logo) they failed to let anyome know when buying tickets and expected ppl to just know to get on a coach USA bus by a tiny sticker with the megabus logo on it (I waisted $60 rebuying a tickets and still havent been refunded for that). Customer service only accepts compliamts via email so they dont have to actually listen to costumers frustration and complaints. If you call and complain to loudly they will hang up on you. The ticket roster is unreliable as I bought a ticket with no transfers and here I am on a 2nd transfer bus, bus driver claimed it was thier green initiated. I've bought reserved seats and found sleeping passengers or children in them ( I wasn't going to kick out children from thier mothers). I will NEVER use Megabus again after this experience. I have now waited 3 HOURS for my bag to arrive to my destination. It's still not here. Our bus broke down and when we boarded another bus they didn't allow us to get our bags. Apparently some other bus picked them up but 3 hours later it's still not here. Megabus GET YOUR BUSINESS TOGETHER. Your own employees even say how your service has gone down hill and obviously they aren't lying. Save yourself the hassle and use any other bus service. read more

I'm still on my first megabus trip and I already know I will never take it again. We left an hour late (which I hear is what you need to expect every time) the wifi doesn't work at all, the outlets don't work, I have never felt more uncomfortable seats or such a bumpy ride. People say that you can't expect much with how cheap it is, but it actually was more expensive for us to take this bus than if we had just driven. Even looking for tickets way in advance you can't find $1 seats. The city bus I take to work every day has reliable wifi and outlets and more comfortable seats than this. read more

I rode Megabus from Boston to Washington DC. The ride was both comfortable and pleasant. The first bus was a regular sized bus but it had a lot of leg room, almost like a Jet Blue of charter buses. I am tall so the extra leg room makes a difference. The second bus was a double decker and had leg room that is consistent with most buses. The bus from NY left late but I wasn't in a hurry so there wasn't an issue. Getting on the bus was easy and very orderly and I felt very comfortable with the people riding in the bus with me. The driver was responsible for packing and unpacking the the bags. If you have to take a bus then this is a great option!! There was no wifi in either of the buses :( read more

Good, but avoid eastern travel buses. Apparently some Megabus services from DC to NYC are run by Eastern travel. If you have the option, try and avoid them. A few of us waited at the megabus stop in the carpak on 9th and H next to the shiny megabus sign. A bolt driver told us that Eastern buses leave near the red church building on 9th, about 1 block away. The Eastern travel bus was still there, half an hour after departure time. The staff ignored us, tried to wave us away, then shouted at us for having megabus tickets, while letting on people who paid cash. We finally got a seat after being shouted at a few more times. We left 1 hour late. On the plus side the bus ride was uneventful (but no wireless), took 3 and a half hours, so was only a half hour later thna planned and cost $1.50. Next time I'll get the real megabus service or bolt (staff were friendly and nicer looking buses) read more

Well after years of taking one of the original Chinatown buses to NYC I decided to give Megabus a go out of curiousity. I wanted to know if it was really any better than the others. I should preface this by saying I never take a laptop, just my ipod, and a book or magazine so wi-fi isn't important to me, I was simply hoping for a nicer, cleaner bus. Departing from Washington to NYC was fine with regard to organization, with lines and communication with Megabus staff pretty clear. The NYC side however was an absolute disaster with NO organization whatsoever, and very little communication from staff. I've rarely ever been involved in such an epic, disorganized mess, with literally hundreds of people clogging the sidewalks next to Madison Square Garden, and no idea where to line up for boarding. Megabus staff weren't terribly helpful either. And to further compact the issue my bus was over 30 minutes late in what was the worst weekend weather-wise (nonstop rain - and cold) I've spent in NYC. Anyway... I will never take Megabus again until I've heard they've come up with a system for boarding. Honestly, to this point all the buses seem comparable as far as cleanliness, scheduling, and timeliness, so unless you specifically need wi-fi I think any of the bus groups would due. I may try bolt bus next, but I've read they have issues too so.... read more

I've taken this bus a few times leaving New York for Philly and DC, and leaving Philly for DC. Never had a problem, but I'm a veteran of Greyhound and Chinatown, so my expectations are tempered by reality. I appreciated the ticket counter in NY for last-minute walk-ups. Travel time reasonable. But no matter what, I always prepare to be several hours late. For absolute reliability, I would choose Greyhound over Megabus. I like not having to deal with ticket agents, baggage attendants, and surly armed guards with club-bouncer mentalities as can be found in some Greyhound stations. read more

I have traveled the DC/Philly route many times on Megabus & New Century lines & can compare them [Bolt doesn't go to Philly]: both are fairly dependable & worth the cheap prices. Megabus has cheaper fare if you purchase ticket ahead of time & go at off-hours. advantages of Megabus: newer buses, wifi, lines instead of mobs, decent bathroom, ability to change ticket if you create an account. advantages of New Century: indoor waiting rooms, quicker Baltimore stop, more convenient location from DC's Metro system. all-in-all, my experience on Megabus is better & is recommended. read more

I took megabus from DC to NY at midnight. I didn't book in advance as website was down and noone answered phones. Bus was pretty clean, was pretty much on time (we pulled out 10 minutes after schedule but arrived on time), comfortable, outlets worked as well as wifi, and the guys at the lot were the kindest and most courteous and helpful. You got what you were promised. I was a bit anxious as the news had just reported that megabus was being sued over an accident where driver is accused of having to cut safety corners to make it on time to next location... but those guys on the lot won me over for the greatest customer service.All in all, I will probably choose megabus first over any other bus line, next time... unless it;'s winter and you have to stand out in the cold. read more

I took Megabus from Pittsburgh to D.C. and it was nice, nothing like the other reviews suggest. Two days before I was scheduled to leave, the company sent me an email stating that the bus stop had changed (just one block away, due to a special event). No problem there. As soon as I got out of the car a Megabus employee was immediately asking where I was going and directing me to the proper line. The bus was on time (or close enough, I wasn't really paying attention) and they loaded quickly and off we went. The bus driver was nice, saying "Good Morning" and smiling. We had one rest stop and she told everyone to be back at the bus in twenty minutes. We started going and one passenger (who had counted heads before everyone got off the bus) had her stop because one woman was not back on the bus. The bus driver, though irritated, was nice enough to wait for the woman, who ended up being fairly late coming back and not even apologizing for it. We had some issues with traffic, forcing us off the freeway for an hour, but we only ended up being 30 minutes late to our destination. The bus ride was quiet, had free wifi, and (I'm a nervous passenger) it was a safe trip with no major drama. I'd take it again, especially because the cost was such a deal and I didn't have to waste my own gas, plus I was able to read and rest, rather than driving the entire way myself. It is public transportation, but I didn't have any real issues with it. read more

I give them a 3/4 stars for comfort but a 0 for customer service. Here is why... I have taken this bus before and though they were late was happy about the leg room and free wifi. However, my uncle ended up dying suddenly while I was visiting in NYC so I could not take the bus back at the time I had paid for. I called the representative to explain but she treated the call as if it was her persobal line and had absolutely no manners or professionalism at all. I told her I can have the funeral home fax a letter to them but she told me I had to buy another ticket & I was not going to have my money refunded at all. I decided to let it go because I had other things to deal with than this. On my way home, I board the bus and I see people outside upset with their tickets in hand. One of the very "professional" Megabus employees states "Oops, my bad" because people were waiting to board that bus who already had reservations but megabus allowed people to board the bus that had not bought tickets prior. He was laughing because they were not able to board the bus and the bus was now super full. Plus the one bathroom they had on board was out of service & the AC was not functioning. Today I decide to give them 1 more chance. I go online and once I'm about to pay for my ticket the website goes down around 2:30pm. It has been down ever since. I decide to call them only to find out by yet another unprofessional representative (Shawn) they are charging me $3 booking fee per ticket each way, not roundtrip. Shawn tells me to go online and buy the ticket because the booking fee is cheaper. I explain I cannot go online to buy the ticket because the website is down. He then tells me he is aware of it, he doesnt know when it will be up, and they give no refunds for the ticket purchased. So why did he tell me to go onine when he knew it was down all along? Im reporting this to the BBB because it seems they had the website down on purpose so people can call them & pay the $3 each way which is a total ripoff. If they charge $3 booking fee it should be per transaction not per ticket. Not to mention the fact that they dont appreciate their customers. We are the reason they are in business. I will NOT be using them again. Buy your ticket if you like but at your own risk. I personally rather pay more & get great customer service than to pay less & be treated like crap. My BBB complaint # is 94364506. If we all complain to the BBB maybe then they will be forced to do better because I cant do this alone and I see many others here have complaints as well, might as well make it productive. read more

I took MB from DC to NYC and it was GREAT. After reading some of these negative reviews I started having second thoughts before booking my trip but I am glad that I did anyway. One thing about the service to keep in mind is that Megabus is more like mass transit compared to the other carriers. It pays to do your homework ahead of time, even if it means getting there an hour or so early so that you know what's going on. The staff were as helpful and friendly as they reasonably could have been but the busy fast-pace environment of all of the busses constantly coming and going didn't make it easy to have a long drawn out conversation. If you had a quick question, they happily gave you a quick answer in between coordinating the busses. The leg room sucked, the seats weren't that comfortable, however, when nobody is sitting next to you on a half-full bus, it's not that bad. There are a few things that I did "right" to make my trip enjoyable: 1. I booked the trip early in the morning. 7AM. Very rarely do you ever find "riff-raff" or young parents with crying babies on trips that leave out this early in the morning. Everyone was polite and courteous of one and other. 2. I got there 90 minutes before my departure so I was actually first in line to ensure that I could get any seat that I wanted. 3. When I booked my trip, I chose a route that only stopped in Baltimore/White Marsh. There were several people there who wanted to go to Philly from that stop but being that it was going straight to NYC from that point, we didn't get jammed up with other people trying to get on from that point. 4. I brought my mobile hot-spot. The bus Wifi works.. but not good enough.. not even for email. read more

This was my 2nd trip taking Megabus and it was my final trip!!! I decided to head up to NYC from DC on 7/13. While the bus was booked for 8:00pm of course it did not leave until 8:30pm. Which I found pretty interesting because there were at least 4 empty buses parked waiting for passengers. As I sat with the other steaming and sweaty passengers they finally made the call to board the bus. Find a seat at one of the tables downstairs which I thought was ideal and would offer more leg room. WRONG! There was a man across from me who was about average height and his knees kept hitting mine. Then he decided to take of his shoes and put his foot across his knee which resulted in ......well I am sure your imagination can take it from there. While that may sound like that was the worst part of the trip, oh no my fellow yelpers, that was soooo not the case. Around 11:00pm at exit 5 on the NJ turnpike the bus decides to break down...The driver pulls the bus over and calls the incident in. HE NEVER INFORMED US, THE PASSENGERS OF WHAT WAS GOING ON. We heard it all thru his conversation with dispatch. Then when he finally does get on the speaker, he advises a replacement bus won't be coming to us until an hour and 10 mins later. So now we are already delayed and will be delayed another few hours. In the words of Tony the Tiger GGGRREEEAATTTT! He continues to talk to dispatch and they go back and forth about shutting the bus completely down as it is pitch black and we are on the side of the NJ Turnpike with major 18 wheelers flying past us (which we feel when the bus sways back and forth everytime one passes). We are then informed by our eloquent bus driver "Um, as you can see the bus has broke down." Using my deductive reasoning skills from Scooby Doo, Sherlock Holmes and Murder She Wrote mysteries, I came to the same conclusion. Oh but wait, it gets better. A gentleman decided he no longer wanted to be a part of our fun and wanted off the bus. He tells the driver he has rights and he is invoking them. He starts arguing with the drive and then starts pushing buttons on the console. The driver advises he has kids and doesn't need to loose his job because this guy gets hurt be disembarking off the bus. Finally the man gets the doors open and is out the fresh NJ air. I couldn't help but think - wonder if he is related to David Banner. He had his backpack and plaid shirt. So hey, one never knows. Fast forward, we are told a bus is closer and is coming to save us!!! The bus arrives and of course we get another great speech from our driver "Um, I'm about to open the doors, everyone leave in an orderly fashion." Again using methods learned watching many hours of television, I wonder why he doesn't have the first floor leave and then the second? The result is passengers from the top of the bus now sit downstairs and those who thought we would remain in the same seat assignment are now getting the gas face from new comers sitting in their seats. I finally arrived to NY around 2:00am....which NY didn't seem to mind as it was wide awake. Me, I was traumatized and forever scarred by toes and exit 5 on the NJ turnpike and oh yeah, that was my last and final hurrah on Megabus. I wish my fellow riders love peace and hair grease I'm out!!! read more

August 16, 2012 I will never take another experience with Megabus and suggest you don't either. I had a DC-NYC round trip. There is no shadow in NYC bus stop at 4:30 PM and we had to wait inside the bus for half an hour without any air conditioner!! It was like hell in the August!! The bus began the trip with 15 minutes delay and stopped near NYC as the side mirror was malfunctioning!! The technician arrived after 40 minutes and couldn't solve the problem and said there is no problem to continue the trip!! We were on the rout after one hour delay!!!! Again in Baltimore we stopped to pick up another buses passengers as the other one also was broken down!! We arrived to DC at 10:40 PM without any apology. I heard some other customers had to pay additional charges for late hotel check-in!! I definitely won't use Megabus again. read more

DC to NYC was not on a regular MegaBus. It was on a ragged, substitute charter bus. It stank. There was zero back support on those dirty seats. Duct tape covered the arm rest. No leg room. Sticky floors on the seat we originally chose. We were miserable for four hours. Never again!!! In addition, it was an overnight trip which got extended. Now I'm out a ticket back to DC, because MegaBus policy requires 24 hour notice of changes. My daughter just moved to NYC. We live in DC. Normally I catch the BOLT bus. This was my first AND last trip on MegaBus. Your service sucked and so do your change policies. Do not bother sending me an email response reiterating your travel T&C. I read them (too late for travel) and still disagree. It's the freaking bus. Things change. BOLT bus service only requires 2 hours notice and a few dollars to make changes. read more

Watch out for the "bait and switch on Mega Bus - DC - NY route". Mega Bus advertise on their web-site (Megabus.com) and in general public advertisement, that they offer larger seats, more legroom, electric sockets and free Wi-Fi for reasonable bus fares DC-NY; and when you arrive at Union Station's parking lot (on time for your scheduled bus), "you are switched to Coach USA "alleged corporate owner of Mega Bus" whose buses do not offer the advertised amenities. Then if you wish to change to a real Mega Bus "leaving later-3:30PM" you are informed that you must pay an additional $10.00 "covering two tickets" for switching, when in fact you have already paid for the Mega Bus at their web-site (Megabus.com) - scheduled to leave DC for New York City on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 3:00 PM. You are switched to Coach USA . Be careful of what you pay for on Mega Bus leaving DC-NY as you might get a Coach Bus - which ain't no Mega Bus. Can anyone say FALSE ADVERTISING. I sure can, from this bad experience. After the fact, I'm told that Bolt Bus is the "BEST" , and then DC2NY for this route DC-NY. read more

You may get stranded in a bus station all night i took Megabus from NY to DC, the bus was supposed to leave at 6:10pm, but it left at 6:40pm, because we were told that the driver need a rest. during the trip, there is something wrong with the air conditioning, the driver pulled over and asked all passengers out for a break, the thing is she did not elaborate how long the break will be, as a result, when she asked all of us pop up on the bus 10 minutes later, some one was defecating, so we will delayed another 10 minutes. i told her at the beginning, we need to catch another Megabus at 11:45pm, do you think we can catch it due to the fact we are already 30 minutes for the departure. i was told it is depended on traffic. there was 1 hour 20 minutes left for me to catch the bus after the break, when i asked her how long we can be DC, she told me about 1 hour. but NO NO NO, it actually took her 1 hour 25 minutes. our bus was the slowest vehicle on the road even though i told her my situation the second time. as a result, my wife and i stranded in the DC bus station all night, and we have to wait the 7am bus to go back Morgantown. later, i called customer service, i was just told it was all due to traffic, we should set 2 hours to catch another bus. sounds like it was all our fault, we deserve to stay up all night. 1 hour and 20 minutes delay is really unacceptable for a 4 hour and 20 minutes NY to DC trip. read more

As 0 or negative stars aren't an option, 1 isn't deserved, but will do. I had the misfortune of riding the Megabus recently. I had purchased a ticket for the 5:45pm bus from Washington, DC to Philadelphia last Friday. While it was well above 90 degrees and many customers were waiting in line in this heat for such a long time, the bus employees were laughing and joking in the air conditioned bus. More importantly, I was forced to stand in that line for well over an hour ON CRUTCHES as that bus never came (for all I know). Unsurprisingly, no one kept the passengers informed. The passengers going to Philadelphia were allowed on the 7:25 bus which also left late since the employees didn't account for passengers going to New Jersey. No wifi or working outlets, no surprise. As if that ordeal wasn't enough already, when we go to Delaware, the driver got lost and took streets that were way too narrow for such a large bus, causing the bus to almost fall into a ditch as he struggled to make a U-turn. It's one thing for a regular bus to almost fall over that way, but if that happens to a double-decker bus, that is far worse for obvious reasons. Still, after this, when we got to Philadelphia, the driver's speeding and reckless driving caused us to almost fall into the water beside us before he continued to speed through tiny, narrow passages/tunnels. I've had terrible experiences with Megabus in the past, but I've never almost died TWICE on any bus I've ever ridden. I don't know what qualifications are required for someone to become a driver for this company but they should at least have some regard for the lives of others. Rest assured, I will never be using Megabus again and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

I've taken Megabus close to a hundred times in the last three years..some short trips, many long hauls(DC-San Antonio) and have never encountered any major problems. Yes, many of them are late and on a few overnight buses I felt like I was in a meat locker. Don't understand why the heat/air conditioning can't be uniform on all buses. I have gone on many trips paying $1 a segment; It can be done. When Megabus posts new dates, that's when the fares are a buck. I've always allowed at least two hours between connections and try to avoid traveling in the winter when weather can cancel routes and you are stuck. The buses are comfortable and they are quiet. I don't care about Wifi, so that doesn't bother me.. I've gone from Baltimore to San Antonio for $12 round trip and next month I'll be going to Chicago from New York for $2 round trip. Being semi retired with not a whole lot of disposable income, and a love of any kind of travel, I can't complain. Don't have a lot of high expectations. There aren't too many bargains left. Horrible to no customer service! Took a trip from DC to NY on Friday night. Confirmation email asked to arrive 15 mins prior to departure because bus has to leave as scheduled. However bus didn't move for 30 min beyond departure time, no one from personnel addressed the issue. Driver was rude, refused to answer any questions even when the bus was not moving. Bus took unplanned stop in MD, people try to come out to smoke, but driver was rude and ordered the smokers to return to the bus immediately or don't come back to the bus. ( even though bus stayed there for 10 minutes ). Bad customers overall, doubtful that will be using megabus service again... read more

Took one from Lancaster (UK) to London and back. It was the stinkiest bus experience I've ever had. On the way to London, liquids from the loo leaked between the seats. It was smelly throughout the journey, and people travelling obviously weren't taught to close the toilet door after them. On the way back, the toilet experience was a bit better, but you can do nothing with people - I had a pal who didn't wash his feet for probably a month, then he sat behind me and took his shoes off... Cheap though. But I guess these guys should invent something to prevent passengers dying from their stinky fellows. read more

I, Ketan Mehta, would like to share a horrifying experience i had on 1st July 2014, when i was on Holiday Tour to Niagara Falls, Canada. On 1st july, when I reached niagara (boarded at Toronoto at 310 & reached Niagara at 510pm) I noticed my purple colour cabin size 4wheels VIP brand bag was missing...I immediately raise the issue with the driver n after persistently following up with him he acknowledged his mistake of bag being handed over to a passenger at Grimsby bus stop. I reported the matter to Police immediately n filed a police complaint for my bag stolen. The incidence # is 14-54927. Upon investigation police handed over the bag next day mrng on 2nd july at 5am. Unfortunately from the bag all valuables i.e money $, laptop , camera , mobile was stolen and my bag had nothing. SINCE THEN ITS 2 MONTHS, BUT I HAVE NOT GOT ANY SATISFACTORY REPORT FROM POLICE ON STATUS OF MY CASE. i am shocked even in western develop world police works with such inefficiencies, the culprit has not been caught yet. The driver of Mega Bus who did the entire goof up is still free & has not been summoned or arrested on the matter. Further, its so frustrating & difficult to reach the 'constable' or the "detective investigation' accountable for the case, they are not recheable always. Even they do not respond to your e-mails, leaving you puzzled as to whats happening of my case. I would suggest all to take care of your valuables & always be kept with you in Canada, as i have never seen such a insensitive police in my life. Finally, dont fly to Canada...its the most unsafe place for not only theft but also on police effeciency. I urge all to support my case, as i am a salaried guy & i have lost my hard earned money...getting such treatment from Canadian police is beyond imagination & totally not acceptable Please....please dont ever travel with Mega Bus...they never take care of your belongings...& its you who should keep your belongins with you always. I'm mainly doing this so that if someone has my luggage, they can contact me. On September 28th pm, I had my luggage when I got on the bus in Dallas and when I got off in Little Rock September 29th at 5:10 am, I grabbed what I thought was my bag. If you own a navy blue suitcase and found a shipping tube, shoes, and various shirts that aren't yours when you opened the bag, check the top outside pocket. It has my medication with my name on it. We had a problem with a bus getting in late. It was entirely Megabus's fault, not weather or anything else. They charged us a second time to get a transfer ticket. Somewhere buried in their terms and conditions it says that you need two hours between buses, good luck finding that info. Ok, fine, now we are down to three stars. Tried calling their customer service, and that experience brought them down to one star. read more

Horrible policy regarding cancellation of reservations. No refund and they insist on you reserving another future random date instead. Even if you do not plan to travel. No credit. You have to book. Stupid policy. read more

Wish I can give negative..... I booked NYC to Washington DC trip on 06/13 1.30 AM trip, bus don't turn up till 3.40 AM, we were left in that cold in NY street without much information (it was a full bus, every seat booked), the only Megabus guy available kept telling us bus will be here in next 30 minutes, next 15 minutes and was very very rude if you ask for information, he would disappear after announcement. Finally we got in to bus 3.40 AM, I was hoping to make office on time, bus driver refused to drive after dropping passengers in philly saying that she don't have any more hours left to drive and we will have to wait for another bus or replacement driver, waited for ~90 minutes and neither bus cam nor driver. I guess driver took pity on us and drove for another ~30 minutes and parked it in service area saying that she absolutely cant drive anymore and we will have to wait for another bus or driver. waited for another 90 minutes then arrived replacement driver. Every Megabus person we interacted were rude, company knew that first driver don't have enough hours to drive all the way to DC but still they sent her. lots of passengers called customer support and the response was pathetic Eventually we reached DC @ ~11.15 AM, 5 hours journey turned out to be a nightmarish 11 hours. in simple words Megabus sucks, will never travel with them again and so should you, till now haven't got any response from Megabus. Spend couple of extra bucks and take Greyhound or Bolt, if you want to go cheap then take China town bus. NEVER EVER take Megabus. Megabus consistently lies about their schedules. They do not disclose that they switch drivers in the middle of their NYC/DC bus, which is poorly coordinated and causes long delays. Ticket takers and drivers are rude, take pleasure is giving a lot of attitude. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. From the attendants taking tickets down to the bus driver. No sense of service at all. I walked up to the bus terminal unsure of where to board and asked an employee for assistance. He was on his phone with headphones in and acted as though I was bothering him with my question. The gentleman taking tickets and baggage were barking commands at passengers as if we were school children. When we stopped at the rest stop, we were told we had 15 minutes to use the restroom and get food. I timed myself and came sprinting back to the bus at the 15 minute mark only to be snapped at by the bus driver for being "late". He was extreme rude throwing his hands up at me screaming "MISS REALLY?!" I will never give this bus line a dollar more of my money. Not even for their desperate "dollar deals". read more

We were traveling from NYC to DC. On the way the bus lost power and the driver stated that he had lost all power steering. We waited on the side of the road for about 10 minutes and he attempted to restart the bus. He did and it was working fine. The company made us meet at a rest stop and switch out buses. As I recognize the need for safety this incident added at least another hour on to our trip. If the bus went through appropriate safety inspection beforehand the issue would have never arised. When I contacted the company about the inconvience they were unwilling to compensate me for the lost time and in fact stayed that the bus arrived on time at the depot in DC. Also, their policy states that if a trip is longer than 5 hours a stop will be made. There was never an additional stop made and by the end of the trip I felt lightheaded. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I've read a lot of the reviews on here of Megabus. I guess everyone has a different experience. Maybe if everyone posts an "about me", with regards to their travel profile, readers will get the kind of expectations each person has going into their trip, and also give like-minded travelers a good idea of what to expect. I'll start...hah. About me: I frequently travel the Northeast corridor...DC/PHL/NYC/Atlantic City. I've taken Greyhound, Bolt and Megabus. Amtrak is my preferred mode of travel; I've taken Acela once. I've certainly flown between these cities too (PHL to BOS, PHL to NYC...it was a hop for overseas). I've taken a group limo once from Cherry Hill to JFK. I've also taken regional rail between the cities (PHL to NYC by SEPTA and NJTransit, PHL to Atlantic City by NJTransit). I prefer the non-sketchy bus stations. Been at several sketchy ones (Atlantic City, Dallas, Houston) and put up with it. Been at many stops that aren't (new Union Station DC, New York, Megabus/Bolt Philadelphia). Prefer to pay the saver fare for Amtrak, weeks in advance, but don't cry (too much) when I make a mistake and have to pay more (it has happened once...booked the wrong direction train, DOH!). Much prefer the shorter train rides (compared to the bus), but like how the bus has fewer stops and therefore fewer interruptions over the loudspeaker (argh, how the hell are you supposed to sleep on the Amtrak with them yelling the train stop!). Would prefer the buses and trains were cleaned like airplanes, but try to ignore the fact that they aren't. With all that being said, I think Megabus is a very good option. I have taken it twice now, and both times were good. The first was PHL to DC, booked a ticket last minute when my train was super delayed because of downed power lines (Jan 7 2014). Cost me $12.75 (after $1.75 fee), and the bus was about 10 minutes late. Still beat the train because of those power line issues. One girl at Amtrak was worried about getting to Baltimore and I told her I was taking Megabus. She didnt want to go because she thought that the bus would let off in the sketchy Greyhound station in town. Turns out, the Baltimore stop is in the upscale White Marsh mall parking lot. The second time was this past weekend (Jan 19 2014, DC to PHL). Cost me $24.75 ($1.75 fee again). The bus in route broke down going to Union Station, but someone announced this fact and mentioned a replacement bus was in route. "Could be 30 minutes or more". It showed up 30 min late. BUT we still got to Philly on time (mostly because it said the drive was 3h50m, but no drive to Philly is that long. I think they just drove the actual speed limit and cut out the nonsense at Baltimore and Newark. I think they are supposed to drive under the speed limit). First bus I took had working chargers, second didn't. But that might be because that but was in service mode as a replacement for the downed bus. But both times I was pleased. Both times had working wireless. Buses are comfortable, tickets are cheap, and station locations are all safe! (DC is Union station, Baltimore is White Marsh, Newark is by UDel, and Philly is right up the street from 30th St Station). I will be a return customer for those last minute trips where the train is too expensive. read more

Without a doubt the worst customer service I have ever encountered. It was so bad it lead me to download Yelp reviews to rate. The website doesn't work. I will be taking different buss services in my future. They are worth spending more money. read more
