So, I've only ridden with these guys once. The ride was fine; cheap ticket, clean bus, ran on time. But my recent experience with their phone support call center is bringing down my star rating. I was considering trying MegaBus for my next D.C. to NY round trip, and decided to look up Yelp reviews first (as you are now presumably doing). They have a poor average rating, from hundreds of reviewers. Apparently there is a common issue with bus breakdowns? I didn't experience any issues on my first trip with them, so I decided to investigate. Tried their website, nothing responding to the many claims of frequent breakdowns or laying out their policy in cases of breakdown. Tried calling them to ask directly... OOF! I'm not sure what's going on at that call center, but they may want to start from scratch. Tone at the outset was brusque at best; when I communicated to them that there was no issue and that I was actually calling for information on the frequency of their bus breakdowns and/or policy regarding customer care in those situations, the woman I spoke to gave me a scripted, impatient response. I tried rephrasing. I assured her there was no issue, and explained that I was considering booking with them for my next trip. Same canned response, this time with a bluntly angry tone. I asked her (politely) if she was stressed, and told her I was confused by her tone. (I wasn't calling to complain!) Same scripted answer, this time angrier. I asked if a manager might have more information, and whether there was someone there I could speak to. She almost immediately put me on hold and said, in the closest approximation of an angry robot voice I'VE ever heard coming from a human, "Please hold; I will transfer." The manager came on quickly, but I had trouble telling her apart from the previous associate... because she spoke in the same angry robot voice! We essentially repeated the same conversation, slightly escalated - on her part. (Isn't a call center manager supposed to be more calm than the associates?) After three rounds of the "I'm sorry we can't help you, please send an email into the void" script, she actually hung up on me! It was absolutely bizarre, and completely put me off booking with MegaBus. If anything ever DID go wrong during a trip, I would hate to have only the angry robot women to rely on for assistance. It's too bad, because their ticket price is roughly half of their competitors. Now I know why! read more
