Comfortable, clean bus, with functioning Wifi Professional, safe driver Our bus arrived in Philadelphia on time, although waiting in line in the cold on a dreary street is no fun. Obviously, the train experience is far superior. However, the bus just before ours--the 2:15--was an hour late. So some of those people had waited for a very long time in the cold. There are no places to sit down (nor bathrooms) so it's not mobility issue-friendly. And it takes a ridiculous amount of time (4 hours!) to get from Philly to DC. I still can't figure it out. The traffic didn't seem too bad. The weather was fine. But there is a weird detour between the White Marsh/Baltimore stop and actually getting past the city of Baltimore (like, 45 minutes later!). I should ask about this, because I found it very puzzling indeed. read more

prices are the only thing good about this service. Decided to give them a chance and ended up regretting this. My overnight trip from NY to DC, normally 4-4.5 hours ended up being over 6. At no time were we informed that there was any delay and the driver woudl nto give me any answers when I asked him why we were running late. When I tried to take this up with customer service it took me over a dozen phone calls (which were typically never answered), and multiple emails, which half of were not responded to. Most of the customer service reps are extremely rude - especially the Northeast office. Stick with bolt - i have taken 6 or 7 trips with them now and will never buy a megabus ticket again. read more

I had my first Megabus experience on a trip to Philadelphia, and got picked up at the parking lot at 10th and H. I paid $26 round trip which a great deal. Wi-fi and plug-in access plus AC are a great deal as well. Be prepared to confused before you get on the bus. I arrived to a long line for Mega Bus filled with people leaving at different times and to different destinations. Bolt bus picks up at the same stop and seemed to be much more organized. Planning to try Bolt Bus next time, and keep Megabus as a fallback. read more

Had a terrible experience taking the 10:30pm Megabus from NYC to DC, There were over a hundred people in line, which made me think they potentially overbooked or there were people just trying to buy their way onto the bus. The lines were extremely disorganized and the only representative of the company that could give us any information on the bus looked like he just rolled out of bed, no uniform or anything. The bus showed up over an hour late while we all waited in the heavy pouring rain, our clothes were completely drenched, It was miserable, even worst seeing every other bus company pass by and appear to be on time. By the time our bus arrived, they packed it tight with wet passengers, I soaked into my seat till it felt like I was sitting on top of a wet sponge. The driver offered no explanation or apologies, and thus we embarked on our cold uncomfortable journey back home. We were suppose to be in DC by 2:30am, we got there a little past 5am. I've ridden the Megabus from DC to NYC a couple of times and the experience is much better than the Chinatown buses for several reasons: 1) prices are cheaper. if you plan ahead, you can get a round trip ticket for under $30. I have yet to get the elusive $1 ticket. 2) free wi-fi. It definitely makes the trip go by faster. 3) the doubledecker has that cool factor. 4) the bathrooms are surprisingly not that bad. Just make sure that you end up on a megabus and not an eastern bus as megabus has bought eastern. Also, you can change your tickets, but will have to call in to do so. Make sure you have the reservation number with you when you queue for the bus. Each time I've been on the bus to NYC (irregardless of the actual bus line) I've gotten stuck in traffic, mostly as I'm heading into NYC, so I think that's more of a function of getting into NYC than any particular bus company. I suppose I could hold out to take a later bus, but I'd prefer not to arrive into NYC after 1 am. read more

More like Disasterbus. 7 hours from DC to NY with no explanation. On the way to New York we were told we had to stop to pick up folks from a broken down bus at the Baltimore stop. Fine. But then the driver somehow stayed on 95 instead of getting on the Jersey Turnpike, then realized his mistake, crossed the Delaware and drove down two lane roads until finally finding the Turnpike. Of course, that was our guess, as the driver didn't make any announcements and the one passenger who asked where we were going was told, grouchily, "you're not allowed to talk to the bus driver." 3.5 hours after leaving DC we still weren't even near Philly. And then on the way back, another bus was broken in Baltimore and we had to pick them up. Screw this bus, there are too many other options. read more

I have a love and hate relationship with mega-bus. It's the company I use most when traveling DC-NYC & DC-PHL. I have even taken Mega Bus from NYC to TORONTO at times the electricity and wi-fi don't work some times they do. you can get a nice ride at a reasonable price. book early, travel early, pack light and be nice to the dispatchers that check you in/on and load your bags is my advice. Don't be afraid to ask the bus driver to turn the radio off so only he/she has to listen to it ;) read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. I've been riding the megabus for 10 years in different parts of the country. The experiences has varied a lot. Some have been timely and smooth while others have been chaotic and delayed. This current trip, each way has been a 2 hour delay time. When traveling New York-DC, the megabus staff had no information and no idea as to what was going on. Returning, we were in more of an organized fashion than New York, but zero info as well. I choose megabus because it's affordable and familiar, but I am definitely going to be checking alternative bus companies first. Megabus will be the last option. read more

He rolled his eyes, yelled at me repeatedly, laughed, and then proceeded to ignore me and drove off with me standing next to the bus. I've given customer service 3 weeks to respond, and they have chosen not to. I bought tix for the Union Station to NYC bus, no stops. The tix were $30 each, and were for a Friday morning, around 9am. They played a customer service video/commercial as the bus is about to depart (on time, so bonus for that). The video mentions how the bus has undergone a complete safety check, and also tells you how to connect to the "free" excellent wifi (nothing is "free" when you paid to get on). It also extolls Megabus' customer service and other virtues. So not true. An hour later, we pull off the side of the highway for the bus driver to check something. We move again for a bit, and then pull off again in White Marsh, north of Baltimore. We sit there for 40 minutes, because apparently the bus is "leaking". I guess some rainwater was coming in? So much for that pre-trip inspection. The driver was less than forthcoming with info, but another bus eventually comes. Passengers are very annoyed and upset by this point, and the temp was oscillating between hot and cold, but never comfortable. We're all ordered to move our own luggage to the new bus in the rain, even though there were several Megabus employees present. The wifi pretty much never worked on either bus, and supposedly it never does (despite the mocking video). Long story short, we got to NY two hours late and it wasn't because of traffic. Look, I'm forgiving of some things, but if you are going to play a pre-trip video promising all kinds of things that you have no plan to deliver, then you should expect horrible reviews. This company sucks. Our return trip on DC2NY was awesome! read more

If I could swear on this thing I would be swearing up a storm. Horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible, horribleeee! I used Megabus for the very first time just last weekend after reading terrible reviews about Greyhound. Unfortunately my first impression was not a good one. I stood in a parking lot waiting for almost 3 hours for my bus with absolutely NOOOOO information from the staff about when the late bus would be showing up. Couldn't even ballpark it for me! And, they couldn't even guarantee that the bus wouldn't come while I left the line for 10 minutes to use the restroom or get something to eat!!!! So, I stood in line starving with a full bladder in fear that I would miss the bus. On top of that, I was also unable to update my 73 year old aunt who was supposed to pick me up in at my destination. I was supposed to arrive in Newark, Delaware at a reasonable hour of 9:35pm, but instead I arrived well after 1:00 in the morning. It was a nauseating, bumpy, and LATE ride. The driver even had to pull over at one point to ask one of the passengers for directions?!??! It was so bad that I skipped my return bus ride and bought a train ticket home with Amtrak instead. When I called customer service to simply state my side of the story and request a full refund, the employee I spoke with was sooo incredibly rude, speaking to me in a condescending way and raising her voice. I understand these things happen, but I would hope that a company such as Megabus would be more willing to care for their customers when the COMPANY is the one at fault. I received a whopping partial credit of $17 out of the $44 I paid for that terrible experience. Megabus obviously has no regard for customers and could care less about making things right when mistakes happen. That was my first and LAST experience with Megabus. I should have chosen GREYHOUND like I originally had planned. Steer clear. read more

After a couple of spins on this company, I have found that it is adequate. I would rank it over all the Chinatown buses, but lower than bolt bus, dc2ny or washington deluxe. The good: -Buses seem to leave on time -Internet -Toilet paper and hand sanitizer in the bathroom -Generally courteous staff -Occasionally lower fares The bad: -My bus waited more than a half and hour for a passenger in B'more who never showed up -Comparatively slow drivers (What is this safety thing you speak of? I want to go FAST!) -Drivers DO NOT ACCEPT CASH, so you can never do a last minute standby unless you want to call their customer service number and pay by credit card over the phone and customer service has never actually answered my calls -Their dc stop seems to move around a lot, so that is a little confusing -They also block all internet sites that they think aren't family friendly, so pretty much every website I look at is blocked. They blocked one blog because it shows women in lingerie. I wasn't looking at porn, and it blocked pretty much everything. Overall, I would say that this service is just fine. Really bad accomodation. The lights are left on even when it is at night. It makes people hard to fall as sleep. The drivers are impatient who force passengers to leave the bus asap even though they have not dressed up. The bus stops are badly located. I have taken this bus 3 times in south Cal and NYC. It's one thing to be late because of bad weather or traffic. Ir's even OK sometimes if there's a mechanical breakdown. But to wait in a rest stop for almost an hour because the driver reached his limit (and that's OK), but his replacement isn't there - that's on Megabus to not have the driver there. It seems like they didn't even prepare for the replacement driver. For Megabus to not say anything, compensate with a ride credit or anything is absurd, and their planning is pitiful. There are many bus companies and perhaps the others have this issue, but I've never experienced it. Replacement drivers have been there when needed. Shame on Megabus. Awful, awful ,awful read more

I loved that I parked free at their Baltimore - Whitemarsh stop. I loved that they showed up on time both to and from New York. I loved that they had comfortable seats for us. I loved that they handled the crowds well returning from a busy holiday weekend. I loved that everything was working. And I absolutely loved that all four round trip tickets cost $5 (Yes. That was the price for the four tickets!) I'll be back. Update 8/20/11. Used the Washington-Christiansburg service and had another great experience. On time, cheap, and clean. read more

Megabus is just fine. Left on time both ways for my DC-NYC trip. Clean and comfortable enough. Didn't encounter any grimy, uncouth passengers. It is so cheap that it's hard to complain... I WILL echo previous reviews that the current stop at North Capital is located directly in front of a housing project and a good 2 blocks from real traffic/businesses. This does not seem like a huge deal though as long as you plan your trips during daylight hours. And even still, there are usually police that monitor that lot and a ton of other peeps getting on and off the bus. read more

I recently rode Megabus from DC to New York and back and am still finding it too good to be true. I booked in late June for a trip over Labor Day weekend, and paid $1 for DC to NY, and $5 for NY to DC, plus the $0.50 reservation fee for a total of $6.50 round trip. I will separate out my experiences based on each leg of the trip: 1) DC to NY - Departed DC on a Thursday night at 7:15 PM, arrived in NY at 11:10 PM, 20 minutes ahead of schedule). This was a single-level, Megabus-branded bus that was filled almost to capacity prior to leaving DC. Boarding the bus was somewhat chaotic due to the bus driver arriving only 15 minutes prior to departure and due to there being no one to coordinate the logistics of boarding the bus (forming a line, putting luggage into the cargo area, etc.). It also went slowly at first, as the driver had to compare each passenger's reservation number (which is a ridiculously long string of characters consisting of numerous numbers, letters, hyphens, etc.) with the list of passengers on his roster. This went faster as we went along, since he was crossing numbers out and only needed to compare each one with the remaining numbers. We were finished boarding about 3 minutes prior to scheduled departure, and left DC right on time. Three passengers boarded at the White Marsh stop about half an hour north of Baltimore, at which point the bus was completely filled to capacity. We arrived in NY at 11:10 PM, 20 minutes before the scheduled time of 11:30 PM. 2) NY to DC - Coming back, we took a Labor Day Monday evening departure of 5:45 PM. The New York bus stop is definitely quite a bit more chaotic, and we arrived an hour early to find one, ridiculously long, winding line originating from the Megabus stop with no personnel in sight. After waiting in this line with other passenges headed to destinations such as Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia, a few Megabus personnel showed up and started forming separate lines for the separate destinations. The DC and Baltimore line was moved closer to the corner of 31st St & 8th Ave, and was later subdivided into separate DC and Baltimore lines by a Megabus worker who then checked everyone's reservation numbers. The Baltimore line was then loaded onto a Martz-branded bus and the DC line was loaded onto a new-looking, double decker Van Hool-branded bus. Since we were in the DC line, we boarded the double decker bus and were amazed to find a glass rooftop stretching the entire length of the bus. There were even personal air vents and reading lamps, along with footrests for the vertically disadvantaged such as myself. We departed NY about 10 minutes late, stopped at the Thomas Edison travel plaza near exit 11 on the NJ Turnpike to change drivers, and again at White Marsh for about 10 minutes because the new driver was not told that the Baltimore passengers had been loaded onto a separate bus. All told, we arrived in DC only about 4 minutes late, which in my book is basically right on time. Overall, although the bus coming back was much nicer, both buses offered smooth, comfortable, clean rides and seemed reliable and punctual. The drivers were friendly and helpful, and did not drive like maniacs, despite the many other kamikaze drivers out there on the roads who are eager to cut off or otherwise screw over the bus drivers. Aside from the chaos of not having any personnel at the DC stop to help direct the logistics, I would give my first Megabus experience a big thumbs up. read more

Took the Megabus from DC to NY. Crowded, due to a holiday weekend (actually traveled up on July 4) - Wifi didn't work. Left on time, got in in time. Not bad for $38/ each for 2 people. There was a terribly strong chemical odor from the bathroom (lower level) that never got any better during the almost 4 hours up to NY. Took it back to DC from Philly today. Not a bad trip either, but the air was blasting and you could hang meat in the damn bus. Freezing cold and no way to adjust a major vent from whipping my hair back and forth, to quote the young Willow Smith. Actually made good time and got in almost 30 min. early. Not a bad way to go... you get what you pay for. Paid a little extra for a "reserved seat" - just so we didn't have to rush and be in line a half-hour early to guarantee a decent spot. All in all - not great, not horrific, but mediocre at best. read more

MegaBus Customer Service SUCKS!!! I was abandoned by MegaBus over the Christmas Holidays in NYC. I understand there was bad weather coming, but the other bus lines were still running. MegaBus canceled all service on Dec 26th and did not bother to send out emails to customers until the 27th letting us know. I think we figured it out when we were standing outside in the cold with a useless ticket. Their website said to call to reschedule or get a refund. It took 3 days to get in touch with anyone on the phone and then they said they were working on refunds. On Jan 4th they sent a blanket email saying that refunds would be slow due to the number of requested refunds. (go figure) It is now the 12th and still no refund or any further info. Emails go unanswered. AVOID at All Costs. Much better, more reliable companies out there. My new favorite is DC2NY. read more

I wish I could give Megabus 0 stars. I was supposed to depart our station in NJ to DC at 3:30, the bus did not arrive until nearly five. The only update we received was an email around 4:45 notifying us our bus would be late (thanks for telling us over an hour later!). A bus pulled in, the driver slowly walked around to the back taking out peoples luggage and saw people walking onto the bus without checking tickets. I walked on as well only to find out a few minutes in that I was on the bus to Boston. I asked if the driver could just let me off and he refused. It wasn't until an hour later at a rest area I called an uber to get back into NJ, and eventually make my way back home to DC. I will never take Megabus again. For just a FEW dollars more you can get a greyhound with proper service. read more

Note: my comments relate to megabus running between Baltimore and NY. I've twice had problems with MegaBus and will never use them again. The first time was during the Dec/2009 snowstorm. Service FROM NY was canceled... and they never sent any sort of notification. I got an email the next day... but that was way too late. My sister (who was the traveler) had to show up at the stop only to find a small sign posted. Note this sign was probably only there because the stop is right next to their NY office. The cancellation was frustrating, but somewhat understandable- it was during a storm. However, the refund process was absurd. I remained on hold for excessive periods of time to try to get a refund. I tried calling twice, staying on hold 30 mins each time within the first week of the bus being canceled. I then called a month later and was able to get it refunded after another 20 minutes on hold. A quick note about their phone. (Note this is the eastern office, not the national line which picks up quickly and is friendly) The local office has the worst hold system ever. They constantly interrupt the "normal" message with a phone ringing so you think someone is picking up... and then another message plays. Anyways I figured this was all due to the storm.. however this past Tuesday I had a similar issue again. (Yes after another snowstorm) It was a 730AM bus from White Marsh, MD to NY and it never showed up. People tried calling them and eventually SOMEONE got through only to find out that the 730 bus would now arrive at 9am. 9AM comes around, and the word goes around that the 730AM bus is canceled. Yet again, no official notification. I do not want to call back and deal with that horrible phone system again. Yes these are post storm situations, but they can be handled better. A metanote about megabus- the service is cheap, but the bus is not always on time. You might wait for a while, there is no indication of how it will be running. A few notes, when they come, they do their job well. When I actually talked to someone, the refund process was prompt and easy. In the end, Boltbus is much better, and even cheaper. They will cancel service but at least will notify immediately and well in advance of the actual scheduled departure. Their online system is superior and they issue automatic refunds in the event of a cancelation. I have also never seen boltbus be more than 5 minutes late. read more

I've always been a big fan of Megabus! When you book far enough in advanced and get a lower priced ticket, they simply cannot be beat! Of course, I usually plan my trips to NYC last minute and end up paying $15-25, but that's still less than most other bus services and obviously MUCH less than taking the train or flying. Taking the bus to NYC can really be hit or miss. I've never had a bad experience using Megabus, but I have had some trips that have been better than others, depending on how crowded the bus is and how early I arrived to the stop. Up until my most recent trip, the buses have all been your typical charter buses, with additional perks like outlets (a BIG plus in my book) and wi-fi. This past trip, I found myself on one of their newer double decker busses, which was very nice! The steps were a little awkward, but I liked the layout much more and I enjoyed looking out from the upper lever. I would definitely recommend Megabus and have found them to always be pretty reliable and professional. read more

If I can give this rating a ZERO I would, but sadly Yelp does not have that option. Avoid the MegaBus! You will thank me later. Went on a day trip from Washington DC to New York with some friends. The journey there was fine, but the return pick up drive was horrendous. We were slotted to be picked up at 10:30pm in to be taken back to DC by 2:30am. The bus was over an hour late due to the rain so we were all standing in the pouring cold rain. We stood there watching multiple Bolt Buses passing by as we were waiting for ours to arrive. Our bus was the last one to arrive close to 12:00am. The driver did not offer any apologies to the passengers, he just acted like it was another night. Now imagine trying to sit there for 4 hours drenched in rain from the top down to you socks. It was very uncomfortable and a miserable trip back home. We did not get back to DC until 5 in the morning. If you were ever looking to take a trip on those travel buses, say no to MegaBus! and pay more for a better quality service with another bus... like Bolt Bus! read more

So I had originally scheduled a bus ride for later in the day and had to change it to an earlier time. I was charged $10 just to change it! I tried to just cancel it, get refunded, then buy a new ticket but all Megabus tickets are non-refundable! The woman I spoke to on their "customer service" line was so rude to me when I was asking questions! Some customer service... I was on a bus from Philadelphia to DC and it was supposed to arrive in DC at 11:10. I understand that traffic happens and that's out of their control, but we didn't actually get to union station until 12:45. They didn't give us any updates on an estimate time of arrival or what's going on at all. We also randomly stopped between Baltimore and DC at a parking lot and had the option of buying snacks or water from them. Since we were already so late, I don't understand why the snack break was necessary as we had just had a stop in Baltimore and was already so late already. They also offer free WiFi but it really doesn't work at all. I was on the authentication page for 45 minutes as it was loading until I gave up and just used my phone data to respond to my emails. I don't think I will ride Megabus again unless I absolutely have to and it is the only option. read more

Took Megabus to and from DC/Charlotte and was pleasantly surprised. The GOOD: Was nervous after reading some of the reviews, but as soon as the nice bus pulled up on time I was relieved. Both ways the drivers were professional and focused on the trip, one of them went out of his way to be pleasant and continuously congratulated all the mothers since it was Mother's day. Both times the bus was on time, give or take 5 min. Driving was safe for the most part (see bus driver doing his random bathroom stops), includes a 25min snack and bathroom stop in NC only, mostly a quiet ride. Both times the drivers got us to and from in a timely and safe manner on clean new buses, so I would say most of my requirements were met, but two stars are off because of wifi and odd stops. The BAD: -near USELESS WIFI, but that's prob. the norm on buses? It works when the bus stops but on the move my iphone kept getting bumped off and then I had to re-agree to their contract using my precious data, really annoying. Why can't they just do auto-sign on like at Starbucks or remember that you already clicked "agree" once and don't need to do it every time you decide to update your email status? Perhaps the ppl with the laptops were taking all the wifi? idk -I like the bus driver alerting us to what;s going on, but got worried when he did two random stops on the side of the road when he needed to use the bathroom, on the bus. -Only one rest area on the way back, odd that they have only one scheduled stop and it's a third of the way, not half, we stopped after two hours and for the remainder of 6 hours we had to remain seated, and such I was quiet sore. Also, not sure if the staff/bus driver are supposed to only handle the luggage, but one of the ways, he put a few customers in charge of loading the bags; upon arrival he was scolded for not charging extra fee for an oversized bag one customer had, the driver was asked if he loaded the bags and he lied to say "yes." read more

I am never riding Megabus again! Having traveled between DC and NYC by bus every other weekend for the last 6 months, I have found that Megabus has gotten worse and worse to the point that it is absolutely unbearable. While none of the Megabuses I've taken have ever left on-time (at least 15min-45min late), the last several trips have been ridiculously late. On Friday the bus was 1.5 hours late. I thought that was bad. Tonight I was scheduled to leave DC at 7:30pm and the bus didn't show up until 10:00pm. 2.5 HOURS LATE!!!! Granted, traffic is always busy on Fridays and Sundays, but how can they not come up with some simple way of fixing this persistent problem?! There were tons of extra buses in the parking lot... perhaps an extra on-call driver?!!! The people in charge must really have their heads up their bums to allow this to continue. I truly hope their business fails because they are taking advantage of all of us with their hideously bad service and not so cheap prices. BOYCOTT MEGABUS!!!!! read more

Horrible experience!!!! Waited in line for over 15 mins before they decided to let people into the bus yet the bus was set to leave at 1. Then we were told that we would be getting into a different bus and we were herded towards it causing all the people in the back of the line to cut everyone who was at the front of the line there was no order or direction and people were running towards the bus cutting people and blocking the line. On top of that it was over 100 degrees in DC and due to a malfunction our AC wasn't working for the entire trip back to NY. Numerous people were complaining and upset and it was almost unbearably hot with little air flow. It was a miserable trip. read more

I was scheduled to be on a bus with a different company and that bus was cancelled so when I went to ask the emoloyees at the MegaBus desk about buying a ticket fot the next bus they told me there would not be a price difference to buy the ticket online for a later bus (for $25) or to wait for the next bus which was also listed online as $25 - so I waited in line to buy the ticket with them. However when they sold me my ticket right before the bus left, they charged my card for $40 and I was told that was the "weekend cost" of the bus despite all of the other buses for that day listed as $25 or below... I needed to get to my destination by a certain time and by then it was too late to get a $25 ticket for the later bus and they had already charged my card for the $40 before confirming the price... I feel kind of scammed out of $15... That being said at least the seats are decently comfortable and there are outlets for charging... read more

I've been using Megabus for a few years to get between Philly and New York or Philly and DC. For people complaining about the service, you get what you pay for. If you want Red Cap service, go to Amtrak. If you want the bare essentials, here you have them. And, let's be honest... wifi, power outlets, generally comfortable seating... I might go so far as to call those amentities. They have safe drivers, and I've only had trouble with them being late if there was traffic. I'm pretty sure that traffic is not the fault of Megabus. Maybe some of you were looking for MegaTank, which could roll over any obstacles keeping you from your destination? Megabus is much more reliable than the Chinatown buses. It's a great deal. If you know that you get too warm, it may be best to sit downstairs. I've sat on the top deck of a few different modes of transportation and it is often hotter up there. Why? Because heat rises. I don't think it's Megabus's responsiblity to solve this. Basically, they do what they need to do to get you where you need to go for a very reasonable price. read more

The worst transportation company I have ever used. My fiancee and I took the Megabus from Washington D.C. to New York City and back for the Christmas holidays. 1. D.C. to NYC: We departed 20 minutes late. The WiFi on the bus didn't work. The toilet on the bus didn't work. We had to stop 15 miles from NYC and wait for 30 mins in order to change drivers because the first driver maxed out on hours. 2. NYC to D.C.: The bus arrived 1.5 hours late to pick us up. The pick up site was outside with no shelter or amenities, so we had to wait out in the freezing rain at 32° (12° with wind chill) for the entire time. We were lied to about where the bus was. The Megabus onsite employee kept telling us that the bus was 15 mins out and "would be here shortly". Meantime, on the next block over, we could see an empty Megabus parked on the street. That bus suddenly started up and came over to pick us up. It was there all along!!! That tells me that they didn't have a driver and lied to us. Almost 2 hours in the freezing cold we waited!!! Our feet were frozen and numb. Everyone who got on that bus had to take off their shoes and socks to dry them out. Also, none of the power outlets worked on this bus, so you couldn't recharge your phone or other electronic devices. Megabus. Is. The. Worst. I've used a number of different bus services in DC to get away to NYC or Philly. Vamoose, Bolt Bus, DC to NY - they're all first class when compared to Megabus. The bus itself was fine - however the driver never showed up. Megabus staff didn't communicate the issue to all the waiting passengers. We stood in the cold for nearly 2 hours without knowing when we'd be able to board. Customer service was useless in providing information. I arrived at my destination 5 hours late. I was promised a refund but instead got a "redemption code". When I called customer service and spoke to a supervisor about wanting a full refund since I intend to NEVER take Megabus again, he denied me and pointed to their refund policy (which states that a refund is possible in instances within their control). He eventually hung up on me since I was insistent that this was within their control and that a refund was appropriate. Seriously - this is the worst company ever. I'll never patronize them again and would encourage everyone else to steer clear as well. read more

Megabus is fine. My personal experience with them was mixed, but most of the negatives are the kind of things that can happen on any bus line. ...I think. Pluses: I was impressed with the organization, both in DC and in NY, with lining people up and getting different groups on various buses in a short period of time. Wi-fi was on and off, but I really can't believe how many people lower their rating because the wi-fi didn't work on their ride. You're on a BUS. It's wonderful that they have wi-fi at all. So they get a plus there. Bus was clean and so was the bathroom. Minuses: On my ride from DC to NY, we had to stop in Baltimore because they noticed the AC wasn't working (which had made the first hour of the ride pretty uncomfortable). They said, "A new bus will be here in a half hour." Actually, it was an hour. Then, somewhere in NJ, the driver got off 95 because he had been driving too long (I assume it's in their contracts that they can only drive for so many hours straight). So that was another 40 min. delay. Then there was a ton of traffic, because by then it was rush hour. So we got to NY 2 hours late. But that kind of thing happens. ...Still, I'm taking Boltbus next time. Just to try it out. read more

I am currently sitting on the side of the rode outside of DC on a trip from New York to Washington. We are about 20 minutes from our destination, and the driver pulled over and shut off the bus. He informed us that there is a 10 hour limit on drivers, which is completely understandable. However, the fact that this was not factored into the trip is ludicrous. It is baffling that while 20 minutes away from where we are going, we have to wait 30 minutes for a driver. This is my second time using Megabus, and it certainly will be my last. read more
