I bought my house in Sherman Oaks in 1997 and while I was out of town on work for a couple months…read moreshortly after moving in, El Nino hit. Fortunately, my garage (which was storing much of what I had that wasn't in the house) was the only thing that suffered damage, Unfortunately, most of my mementos were destroyed. I reroofed, and now almost 30 years later, with rumors are that El Nino is making a return visit, I thought (since we had suffered minor leaks during some of the recent rains) it was time to reroof, so I put Yelp to work to find me some people to interview. I picked five for the information I could glean, asking few questions, since I knew opening my mouth connected to a brain that knows little about roofing, would be a bad idea and also seeing if people were helpful with their explanations. Everyone (maybe except one) was personable enough for me to think I could work with them, but much of the information was kinda the same thing (although I noted some improvements in roofing since 97 that were useful to ask each about). The prices were more or less the same, and close enough that I knew I could find a point that would be roughly around the general price for them all, so it wasn't money. It was rapport and ultimately who gave me the greatest sense of trust. And. I learned, information that no one else told me. Roy, with Top Roofing was the ONLY one of the five that I saw who discussed the solar pool heating on my roof with me; each of the people I met with went on the roof. Not one other person mentioned it, and if you have solar panels on the roof - it's a consideration in doing the job. When I called the others who'd come to the house to say I'd made my choice and asked why I picked someone else I told them this - it was determinative that one person told me this was a job that needed to be done in addition to the roofing. He hooked me up with a solar heating company, he'd worked with before and I got on the phone with them and felt reasonably satisfied that between them and Roy it would get done on time, on budget. (It's not a small add-on to have them remove and reinstall the works, so if this affects you, be warned). Roy stayed in touch with me throughout - He came by and we spoke on phone daily. We had agreed that in the cost we he would completely replace and repaint a tongue-and-groove porch which was pretty rotted out) and aside from some permit forms I had to fill out, gave me a date of less than a week every date was kept. His crew was punctual, and so neat - the pool was covered, they cleaned up each of the five days they worked. Roy walked the yard with me before they started so I could make sure my gardener trimmed where he needed to, then walked it again, to tell me where we might need to keep trimming. He touched base with me every day, and when it was over gave me a video of the roof (both the main house and the garage were reroofed), and the porch which looked haggard now looks beautiful. I can't say enough about what a positive experience this was. And it looks really good. And since the last time I put on a roof, the tile now cools down the exterior which is good to have in an LA summer. The roof is up, the solar heating is back in operation. Let's go. A roof is an expensive proposition, and I think it's ok to know little if you hire someone you believe in (and, I'll admit, test out a little bit at the onset), who speaks to you in a way that is helpful and doesn't overwhelm you, but I think this was an incredibly positive experience in terms of labor, cleanliness, schedule and most importantly communication. I also inquire about work on our garage (though it's not leaking, but it's in need of replacement). Written and later official estimate was given, and the cost, part, work was exactly as quoted (aside from plywood needed for the garage) On is very genuine and respectful. He maintains a very high level of communication, and you just feel greatly welcomed when talking to him. Out of the 4 days of work done, On is pretty much there every day to inspect and verify proper work is done by the crew. When the crew do finish their work at the end of each day, there is NO mess left behind in the house/garden. Everything is cleaned up and nearly placed by the wall. Before Mike, I had met with 3 other contractors to compare services and quotes but what sealed the deal for me was the 3D render service Mike offered. It was affordable and it would be free if you end up going with MDM for your remodel. Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). You really do have to do your research (in terms of design, finishing materials, sourcing those materials, and getting them delivered on time) and know exactly what you want and how you want it, that way, Mike can plan and put into action what needs to be done. After this entire process, we are extremely happy we got this project completed with MDM. What really sets them apart is the quality of work, dependability, and the great people that work for MDM. Two wouldn't take the job because it was too small. Franklin came by and gave me the best price. After the initial deposit, his crew came by about a week later and finished the job in one day. I think they did a pretty good job replicating what had existed before, although the work seemed a little sloppy. I saw a few gaps in the framing, but they were able to seal it up with bondo. Also on one of the posts there was a large crack in the wood, but that was sealed as well. For the price, I think this was a pretty good value. Would definitely recommend for smaller jobs like mine.

I called Mega Solar to get a quote for a solar and battery setup for my tile roof, and they gave me a good deal. I wanted to lock in that tax credit before it disappears, and their price was pretty decent i mean, especially since they use good REC panels and Enphase inverters. other people had the same thing but i liked these guys my friend did his system with them The install took like 4 months, which felt like forever because I was so hyped to get it done! The crew was cool, but they did break a couple of my tiles during the install. Luckily, they swapped them out fast, so no worries there. the job longer cuz it was too hot everything's up and running, I'm already seeing some savings on my electric bill, and it feels good to know I made this move before the tax credit changes. Honestly, I'm just glad I finally pulled the trigger! If you're thinking about going solar, I'd say check them out for sure. read more

He met with me personally, explained every step clearly -- system design, permitting, timelines, PTO with Edison, and realistic expectations. What immediately stood out was his no‑pressure approach. He didn't try to upsell or push me into anything. He simply gave me straightforward information, answered every question, and let me decide at my own pace. I felt confident enough to sign the contract within two days. Before choosing them, I had gathered multiple quotes through a solar marketplace. Because it was a busy season due to the Federal rebate impending sunset on Dec 31st, 2025, most vendors were slow to respond as everyone was trying to rush to meet the Dec 31st deadline. Some installers had contract clauses I simply couldn't agree to. Johnny's pricing was not cheap but upfront and transparent. No hidden conditions, no questionable fine print, and no pressure tactics. Just a price backed by professionalism. And you get what you pay for. I am glad I chose them. They began pulling permits the following week, and the project moved quickly. By mid‑November 2025, they had installed a 10.78 kW solar system with 20 kW of Enphase batteries. I chose Enphase microinverters, which allow me to monitor each panel individually through the Enphase app -- a huge advantage over systems that only show total production. The installation crew was super courteous, kind, efficient, and clearly knew what they were doing. They kept the worksite tidy throughout the job and made sure everything was spotless when they finished. I'll be adding pictures of the awesome team to this review and updating it with their names as well. A big shoutout to Micole, who handled all the documentation and communication. She was consistently on top of every detail -- permits, inspections, utility paperwork -- and she responded promptly every time I had a question. Her organization and responsiveness made the entire process feel effortless. I also want to highlight Enphase's customer service, which has been outstanding. They remotely checked my batteries to ensure optimal performance and even came onsite twice to fine‑tune the software, despite everything already showing perfect on the app. Their Enphase 10C batteries come with a 15‑year warranty, compared to the 10‑year warranties many competitors offer. After months of waiting, I tried following up multiple times privately to give them a chance to make it right, but I am now being completely ignored. It's a shame because I have several neighbors here in Fountain Valley who are currently shopping around for solar and battery storage. The team was receptive to that from day one and worked with us instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution. Communication was solid throughout the process. As with any solar project, there were a lot of moving parts (permitting, inspections, utility coordination), but they kept things moving and were responsive whenever we had questions. Installation itself was clean and professional. The conduit runs and equipment placement were well done, and everything looks neat and intentional -- which definitely matters for a system you'll be living with long-term. We also appreciated how they handled the more complex parts of the project, including battery integration and working with LADWP for interconnection and net metering. That process can get confusing, but they helped guide it through to completion. System has been up and running smoothly, and we're already seeing the benefits in terms of reduced grid usage and better control over our energy. Apparently there was "an error in a QuickBooks template," and we appreciate that correction. However, our project remains unresolved. One remaining issue involves a SoCalGas incentive of $3,569.25 (SGIP Project ID #SCG-SGIP-2024-5470). Since September 2024, we have repeatedly asked Treepublic to answer a small number of straightforward questions regarding this SGIP application and its cancellation history. Rather than summarize the matter here, I have attached a three-page timeline compiled from Treepublic's own emails and records. We will gladly update this review again when the project is fully resolved and the outstanding issues have been addressed.

The scope of work was the removal and reinstallation of our existing solar panel system during a roof replacement. Estimate: Fair pricing. Communication: Quite lacking. It felt like we always had to be the ones initiating contact, even when it came time for them to collect their payment. Service and Workmanship: The removal took one day and the reinstallation took another. We didn't have any issues with the removal, but the reinstallation had several major flaws. Most notably, they reused the original flashings, which were bent and warped. Because of this, our brand-new shingles could be subjected to warping. We pointed out a few visibly damaged flashings at the corners, but we have no way of knowing the condition of the flashings hidden beneath the panels. Considering we just spent $20,000 on a new roof, they really should have asked if we wanted to replace the old flashings with new ones. Now, I am just hoping we don't end up with leaks in a few years. Cleanup: The second major problem was their lack of professionalism at the end of the job. When they finished, they simply walked off. They didn't clean up or pick up their trash, leaving debris all over the roof, roof gutter, and throughout the yard. Overall: I absolutely would not have hired this contractor if I had known how poor the workmanship and customer service would be.
