Just to clarify: this is not a review for Solar Discovery products or service. I had a very bad experience with Alex and the sales process. To be fair, Alex seems like a very sincere; nice, and knowledgeable person. I was literally ready to move forward with project. Here is where it got weird. We had had a Zoom call previously where he shared his screen to review the proposal. Then. He came to house for site visit. Then, The next day or so, I asked him to please email me the proposal so I could review. The proposal sent was about $10,000 more than what was shown to me before. The new proposal was for 22 panel system vs the original version for a 12 panel system. He offered no explanation as to what happened to cause such an increase. So, I emailed him asking for explanation He called right away to apologize; and proceed to offer me a very flimsy explanation how the original proposal was based on AI recommendation according to square footage and was not based on the actual usage shown in the LADWP bill provided to him previously. I said "why would you base a proposal on square footage when you had actual usage? Also, when I did ai search, both chat gpt and google ai yielded results in line with the 22 panels they ended up proposing. I thought maybe Alex was just new and just made a mistake? But; he's been doing this for 5 years. He must certainly know that there iis no possible way for 12 panels to offset 100% consumption for a 3000sf home with a spa no less. Either Alex intentionally misled me: or he simply did not know what he was doing? In any case. I would just warn would -be purchasers of solar panel systems to be careful with this company. One other note: I have a very low pitch gravel roof. The next contractor I spoke with said he would not recommend standard anchors for solar panels due to higher probability for leaks. We live just north of the Palisades fire. Southern Cal Edison shut the grid down most of the week. In the midst of this we had a malfunction with the solar inverter. Prior to calling Solar Discovery I spent hours dealing with solar edge, and the original installer of the house just purchased. It has been the most miserable experience. She was able to register my system to my address, something the installer never did and wouldn't do despite a $300 visit to power cycle my unit. She was also able to start working on a quote to move my inverter and add panels to my roof, just by looking at my system remotely and pictures of the area and roof. I reached out for a quote and spoke to a woman who was so rude on the call that I'm still not sure if it was some kind of prank. She was outwardly hostile, highly disparaging of competitors, and gave me a verbal indication of pricing that was more than double what I saw anywhere else.
