Went here for the first time in years. It was absolutely DISGUSTING! They completely went down hill, my lasagna was soggy & flavorless, flies in the iced tea (which I used to love!) and the service was horrible - seems like they just did what they want. So sad alpine has no good restaurants, it's like visiting a ghost town & you have no choice to eat nasty food or else you'll starve. Lol. read more

Whenever we get out to the Alpine area we stop by Mediterraneo. The pastas are excellent, and we really like the "Brick Oven" pizzas (although the oven isn't wood fired or brick, it is kept at a high enough temp that results in an excellent crust). It is hard to find pastas and pizza this good elsewhere in San Diego County. Service is fast and very friendly. read more

Mediterraneo is one of my favorite spots in Alpine. Although the food can be pricey, you definitely get great service and food for what you're paying for. My favorite thing to get here are the garlic fries and Med Wrap. Although the food isn't "true Mediterranean food," it's a great restaurant in Alpine. read more

I've been to this restaurant many times over the years, and since it's quite a drive from San Diego, I've always considered it a treat to go up and have lunch or dinner. Sadly, today's trip will be my last, as it's just not the same since the new owners took over. We drove all the way up today (in the rain!) for a lovely late lunch and had a coupon from the Entertainment book, but was informed that they will no longer honor them. That was very disappointing, so instead of ordering one of the pasta dishes, we decided to go with the less expensive Mediterranean wrap. We felt that they should have honored the coupon since it was still valid and because of our long drive, and the very wet weather. But on top of that, the service was very slow, even though it wasn't really that busy (because of the weather and lateness -- it was ~1:30pm). She took at least 10mins to come to our table to say hello and give us menus, and then left for another 10-15mins. Our service for the rest of our meal was also slow, or she forgot things. It's unfortunate that great restaurants can't stay the same forever, but I guess these days that's not possible. The end of an era. :( read more

Stoked to have a "New" cuisine in town that isnt the 10th of 9 taco shops,we were moved twice by the staff to cram us closer and closer into the already tiny dining area,for the reason they openly admitted was so they wouldnt have to clean two areas.which is kinda exactly the opposite of why i choose a seat.so sorry we inconvenienced your staff,didnt even make it to the menu.We wont be back.Hello Alpine taco shop! read more

As far as I can tell, this is the best restaurant in Alpine. I went here for both lunch and dinner on successive days and the food was very good, the service was great, and it has outdoor seating, which I really enjoy. I had a salad with chicken at one meal and pasta for another. The pizza looks great too. I wish my town had a place like Mediterraneo. read more

I am really disappointed in the new ownership changes. As a regular here with the old owners, I find that these new owners are going to sink this ship. We got there and most tables outside were full, but inside was empty. We sat at an outside table and waited 10 minutes. Finally we stopped a man who was pacing around and asked if he could get us some menus and a high chair. He claimed that there were no high chairs and came back with menus. Five minutes later, we stopped him again and asked him for a waitress. She was decent...but would go MIA for quite a long period of time. At one point since we had waited for so long to order, my son got antsy. Since we didn't have a high chair, we started to get frustrated. The waitress saw and magically a high chair appeared. We ordered the bruschetta, which we loved getting every time we came. It was always hearty and delicious. This was four pieces of soggy bread with tomatoes. No basil, no mozzarella, just bland old tomatoes. The salads were fine...just not prepared as asked for initially so they were sent back. Then it took another 15 minutes or so to get our bill and pay. Service was less than acceptable! I loved this place before and now I am doubting I will make the special trip there to go back. Not too many dining choices in alpine and now down one more for me. Went on a Saturday night and they were busy. We were seated in the back bar area. We waited over 45 minutes for our food, while tables around us seated later were served. When our food finally did arrive it was obvious it had been sitting a long while and just forgotten. The fish was lukewarm and on lukewarm mashed potatoes, not the fingerling as ordered. The pasta was barely warm and curdled, both victims of heat lamp. My crespella, which was very hot, at least the plate, was obviously run under broiler to heat as whatever sauce left on it was dried and brown. Really would have been nice to have an apology or excuse or even an acknowledgement of something gone astray with our order. Maybe comp a glass of wine or something, but by the time we got it we were hungry and tired of waiting. We ate some and took the rest home. One star service, but the food had potential thus the 2 star review. read more

iif I could leave more stars I would. After a super rude attempt to eat next door at the sad mexican restaurant. My family and o walked down and had our first lunch at the med. My aunt is super picky. I told her to get the sliders and now she wont stop talking about them. Best lunch spot in Alpine for fine comfortable eating Sooooo gooooood!!! Poor food, rotten lemons in beverages, slow service. This place will finally go out of business with the new brew pub across the parking lot. Steak ordered rare, delivered medium-well. Response from staff was "well that is the way I like it; it is hard to cook a steak rare" Ice Tea had a rotten lemon in it. enough said Dates shrimp at best were chewy, probably closer to tough. Used to live in Alpine and loved this place under Chef Debra Scott! Since then, the place has had its ups and downs. New owners now. Wonderful food, excellent service. Eat indoors or out. Was hoping for more, but not completely disappointed! ate here foe breakfast on a Monday morning. Was greeted immediately and asked by the hostess what she could bring us to drink, quick service! The hostess also took our order and then our server came over to greet us! She kept our coffee full and hot and was extremely attentive. Went with a larger group 14 of us to celebrate a birthday ... First time here was excited to try it ! Won't be back service was completely less than mediocre forgot one of our parties dinner then server was yelling at the kitchen about it. another dish was cold they were not going to send it back ... I insisted he did due the prices ... You should not have to eat a cold 15$ plate ! Tea refills came with out ice ... Unfortunately due to the size of our group tip was included . The chicken Marsala was bland and the mashed potatoes were tasteless. I was pretty disappointed over all and won't be back or recommending this place to anyone, money for dinners out is getting harder to come by, I'll be making another choice in the future. read more

We were excited to try this place out since it always seems to be busy, but I'm not sure if we'll be back. The appetizer and the entrees were very good, but the experience was dampened by the (I'm assuming manager or owner) consistently arguing and fighting with the staff in front of customers. My cuzin who lives in Alpine told me about this place, took my girlfriend out on a date and brought her all the way to alpine from chula vista, the atmosphere is nice sat outside. the food is really good i recommend this place. Only thing that bothered me was when we sat outside there were some cats roaming around out in the grass and coming by our table, other then that their Salmon with rosotto is the best ! And make sure to order some fries there the best ! read more

I've been here about 4-5 times; attentive, well trained servers and the food is usually good. It's a step up on the foody continuum, as far as east county goes anyway. Having said that, our last trip was a disaster. It wasn't the waitress' fault, it was the back of the house as the cooks were goofing off, even kissing each other, they are in plain view with the layout of the kitchen, so as the server was apologizing and removing items from our bill, the cooks continued snacking and messing around as the few tables there continued to grow more aggravated. I'm going to hope this was a fluke, but, I'll stay away a while so they can recognize that they need to revamp their game. read more

We've been going to Mediterraneo for over 20 years. Today's lunch was a fiasco (October 11, 2014). We asked for wine twice and then only one glass came instead of two and the second glass came near the end of the meal. It took over 15 min to get served. The server brought us the wrong bill. They served no bread outside whereas customers inside received bread and hummus. A server asked customers where Table 28 was. If the new ownership wants to survive, they had better rethink its operations from A to Z. read more

Meditteraneo is the best place in Alpine for fine Italian dinning. They have an amazing quaint dinning room and patio for fine dinning and an amazing bar. Their bar is comforting with walk up bar setting or a more casual lounge setting for those who want a more intament experience. Either way you'll be sure to have a great experience. Update on the review from 2013.........things have changed here a little in the last couple years. The dishes are amazing - definitely comparable to the gas lamp / fine dining. Quality wines, good service, having the owners and their family (from Sicily) working in the restaurant gives it so much more personality. Kind of a mixed review. My family and I eat here pretty regularly. The food can range from pretty darn good, to awful, depending on the night. Careful sending things back, some of the cooks will come out and argue with you. We've seen it several times, and It's happened to us a couple of times, once when my wife ordered a medium rare steak, and was served one well done. The tweaker looking guy actually came out to tell her she was wrong when he brought the replacement. Pro tip, Bonehead, medium rare isn't dark brown on the inside. The embarrassed waitress took it off the tab as an apology. The only thing that stays pretty consistent is the wait staff, most of whom are great. Since there's not much in the way of fine dining out east, this is about the best you can do. But It's expensive for what it is, and there's no guarantee of having a good meal. One day a decent restauranteur will discover that there's a market for fine dining out East. read more

The food is great! The service is pretty good, too. Upbeat, country-yuppie feel. They make all their own breads - and they are all delicious! Happy Hour has changed. The Happy Hour is still 4-6:30 p.m. and also at 10 p.m. - Now instead of charging 50% off regular prices from a very slimmed down menu bar menu (which is where the happy hour is) It is now 25% off. That is not really worth it . . . because it is a little bit pricey. In the bar you don't get the before dinner breads and other things . . . and you don't get the extensive menu to choose from either . . . As a matter-of-fact they have slimmed down the Happy Hour Menu, too! It is still good food . . . and if you live up in Alpine there are not that many good food places. My favorite is the Salmon Caesar salad and the Bistro burger with the garlic fries. I ask to have the sauce that comes with the New York steak to go with my fries . . . it is awesome!!! The New York Strip Steak is a hit and miss sort of thing . . . sometimes it was excellent . . . and sometimes it was a tough cut. When it was good - it was excellent. Mediterraneo . . . because if you want salad with your dinner . . . you pay extra. read more

What can I say? The food is TERRIBLE! I didn't know a steak could be so tough until I ate here. And nothing has any flavor. Seems the cooks at Meditteraneo's have no use for spices of any kind. Yes, I do wonder about the cooks. I was absolutely shocked that they used a piece off of a pine tree as garnish, especially when I noticed the pine tree growing outside. No, I'm not kidding. When I hear people rave about this place it makes me think they just don't know what food is supposed to taste like. I'll never waste my money there again. read more

I LOVE this restaurant! The atmosphere, the staff and the food feels like I am at home. I always order the pear salad with walnuts, and their artichokes!!! Are a must for every visit! They make their balsamic dressing in house too which is amazing! I went in with a group of 7 for a late night dinner. They have a good variety of pastas, meats & seafood dishes. But first, the appetizers: we ordered the eggplant dish to share from the appetizer menu which was delicious. For our main dishes we had a few disappointments: The first 3 choices I attempted to order were unavailable. I finally ordered veal Marsala (also not on the menu- suggested by the waitress) very good flavors on the Marsala but the mash it came with was very bland & lacked cream/butter & flavor in general. I had the San Giovanni red wine which was very good. Kids ordered pizza- tasty toppings & lots of good quality cheese. Hubby ordered the chicken Marsala which he was happy with. The service was friendly & welcoming & the waitress was attentive. Over all, I think that if we're in the area, we would try it again mainly because of their dishes we really wanted to taste that we will hopefully be able to taste on our next try. read more

Just had lunch here and really enjoyed everything. It was my first visit, and I wish I had eaten here sooner. I live a couple miles from this place so I will be returning for sure. The restaurant is charming and intimate. The service was good. I had a Caesar salad with chicken and it was delicious. I thought it would be just a salad, nothing to be excited about, but it was really good. My dad ordered the Pear Gorgonzola pizza, and oh my goodness it was amazing! The flavors complemented one another so perfectly. I will be ordering this again for sure. I am so glad to have finally eaten here. This is definitely a jewel in Alpine. read more

OMG. My husband and I were die-hard Sunday regulars for many years until....we reserved a room for our wedding rehearsal. They canceled 4 days out and we couldn't allow ourselves to go back again. Until...we learned ownership changed. Went back today and it was EXQUISITE! Fantastic service, delicious food....so much of what we loved before without the asshole-vibe.
