I love a good family owned business like this one. I learned that the place is mostly operated by a lady and her mother in law. I came in for a meatball sandwich. The meatballs and sauce are made in house, which is always a big plus in a meatball hero. The meatball hero was only $10.99 plus tax, well priced indeed. The meatball sandwich came nicely toasted from the oven, so the bread had that light exterior crisp and soft warm center. The meatballs had a very good texture and a good flavor. In hindsight, a little more seasoning would have been nice. The sauce was very good, not overly sweet or acidic. A good down the middle. I liked that they put a very good amount of provolone and parmesan cheese on the sandwich. It was one tasty meatball sandwich. The service was very friendly and welcoming. I liked when I inquired about the food, I was given a good run down of the place. There's plenty of parking. There's only one table inside and a few outside the building. I went there a few weeks ago. The pizza was all right. Flavor was decent the dough pretty good taste. I should've asked for well done. But the reason for the two stars has to be the lack of cheese and the fact that it wasn't melted all the way. The pizza itself it's OK but it's definitely not worth the price. I would perhaps try it again to give it another try and probably ask it to get cooked a little bit longer. Maybe the cheese will melt and ask for extra cheese, maybe that'll make a difference. But am I dying to try it again no but I suggest people go ahead and try it for themselves. Maybe they'll like it. read more

Janos Pizza is hands down the best Pizza I have ever had!! The Gluten free crust was the best I have ever had and the chicken on the BBQ chicken was so tender and fresh! The salad dressing is home made and i wanted to bath in it. Sooo darn good. We also got the works and cheese pizza and seriously all of then were so good. 10/10 recommend! What a find! Stopped in here after having a meeting in Alpine, uh...YUM! Got the turkey sandwich and it was so refreshing on a hot day! Had all the things I love on an Italian sub...Italian dressing, shredded lettuce, tomato, provolone, mustard, mayo, spices, onions. Wouldn't change a thing! The service is as great as the food. LOVE THE PIZZA! My daughter and I go to laundromat next door on Monday nights and Janos Pizza is our GO TO spot. We always get the 14" slices of pizza and a drink. The pizza slices are GINORMOUS. They're so big, we end up taking 1/2 our pizza home. The service is SPOT ON. Overall, it's a family-owned business, but every time we go there, we end up talking like we're old friends, they're just that FRIENDLY! I'd give Janos 10 stars if they had that many to give. Am I allowed to give it 10 stars? I am a self-proclaimed pizza snob. With a mother from NYC and growing up in the Detroit area, I was spoiled with great, quality pizza. So, it's a big deal when a pizza shop surprises me as much as Jano's did. I ordered the "small" veggie pizza and added sausage. It was huge for a small size pie. Also, there was no skimping on the ingredients - packed with goodness. The first bite was a revelation! The dough is almost like Detroit-style, which is based on foccacia bread - deliciously rich and fluffy with a thin, tender crust on the bottom. Simply amazing! Get the bbq chicken pizza !! Came when I was in the area and wanted to try this spot with my wife and 2 kids. We ordered 2 pizzas, calzone, and roast beef sandwich and my wife got a salad. We anticipated to take some left overs home. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather in alpine. My wife got salad, and she was stunned how good the dressing was. She asked the owner what kind of dressing they have on the side and the owner pointed to the bottle of their own home made dressing. My wife ended up buying a bottle of the Janos homemade dressing because she said it was amazing! Then our pizzas came, we got the Mediterranean and the bbq chicken. My favorite was the bbq chicken. They don't use chicken nuggets on their pizza like other places they use real chicken ! I used the Janos dressing on the pizza and it tasted so good! We got the calzone with extra cheese and we all had one piece and we loved it! I was surprised how amazing their roast beef sandwich was! We split into 4 so we each got a good portion because it was a huge size. And yes I used the dressing on thier too . Went home with some amazing leftovers and the pizzas were still yummy ! I was so disappointed tonight. We have been coming here for a while now, but sadly, I encountered a rude employee today. She had such an attitude and I have no idea why. When I went in to pick up my pizza, I was getting cash out of my wallet, and she leaned on her elbows with her head in her hand as if she was exasperated by having to wait for me to pull out cash. So sad that we don't even have the patience to wait for a customer to count cash. After I paid for my pizza, she placed the money in my hand without saying a word. The best Pizza and Lasagna in East San Diego, in fact, Alpine. We have eaten at many restaurants and we really loved "Mama Rosa", In El Cajon. However one Sunday when we were totally craving some Lasagna but most of the Italian restaurant were all closed.
