Hold for ever and never picked up
    Me I.

Holy cow.... On hold for 15min, no pick up AGAIN!! Every time we have tried placing a phone order no one answers and THEY ARENT BUSY! We walked in and there was one couple seated outside and three people waiting for pickup. No one at the front desk, guy was just standing around. He come to us and we say yea we've been on hold for 15min no one answered. And he takes our order and we wait 40min for food. Two couples came inside and left after a while of no service to them. There was a family of four outside and a dad and kid at the sushi bar. They had to flag someone down for more water and waited a fat minute and still never got food by the time we left. Horrible service, empty and no one inside to have an excuse. Three sushi rolls and a noodle bowl for $70?? No tip for sure. I think we're done trying this place. If the foods bad I'll be pissed.

This was mine and my husband's first time here. We walked in and the host greeted us and said he was cleaning off a table and it would be just a minute. While we were waiting, another couple came in to place a to go order and he helped them. We waited about another 10 minutes, awkwardly standing there because there was no seats by the entrance. We finally got seated in the back area that looked like a converted outside porch area. It was very chilly out but we made do. The server came by to take our order, he said his pen ran out of ink but he will remember our order to relay to the kitchen. We ordered an order of pan fried gyoza, an electric roll, a Philadelphia roll, a tempura shrimp roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. We waited what seemed like 15- 20 minutes for our food to come out. They brought out the electric roll first and did not give us any chopsticks so my husband couldn't eat his roll. We had assumed the gyoza would have come out first, since that was an appetizer. The server brought out our other 3 rolls and then went back to bring us chopsticks, plates and napkins. The two rolls that has eel sauce on them were completely drenched in the eel sauce that you could not taste any other flavor in the rolls. The Philadelphia roll had the tiniest piece of salmon in it and was disappointing. We finished our 4 rolls and still no gyoza came to the table. I let the server know that we never received the gyoza so I'd like to cancel the gyoza. We waited a while and got our bill. He let us know he did take off a discount due to the inconvenience about the gyoza. We were sitting next to this obnoxiously drunk couple, the man burst out into an inappropriate song at one point and the wait staff didn't blink an eye.The prices were pretty reasonable here with their 50% off discount on some of their basic rolls.we went up to the counter at the front to pay our bill and informed them about the obnoxious drunk guy but the server only said " more tips for me", youd think they would cut the guy off on the saki and send them on their way but they didn't. We both felt the sushi was very underwhelming and we most likely would not return here.

We haven't been here in a long time , but decided to give it one more shot. Well, that was a mistake . We ordered chicken curry and salemon roll . Came out fairly quickly ... salemon roll seemed ok . Not as good as I remember , but we worked hard all day and were hungry . However the chicken curry came with white rice ( as we asked for ) the rice was hard and crunchy . We told the server and she came back after like 5 minutes and said " the kitchen is too busy and can't make you rice " . So I'm in a sushi shop where rice is pretty important, they have hard , crunchy rice and they can't make anymore ? We canceled he order we had put to go , I can make better rice at home . Most of the curry sauce went to waste .. and the server just set the bill down and walked away . She could've at least comped the curry , but didn't even try . We go to check out and the owner is cashing us out . We tell her about the rice , she apology and gives us 10 % off ... no , I'm not leaving a tip .. which is something I very rarely do ... but this is the straw that broke the camels back ... we should've went to Marietas Mexican food place which has become our new go to .. we definitely will never be back to this sushi place ... do not waste your money or time .. go elsewhere ..

Shockingly good. My partner in sushi and I decided to give this a whirl. I've not seen super good food anywhere in this town. We are the poster children of culinary mediocrity. This place broke that. Great nigiri, some rolls and super service. Not sure the kids who took care of us were knowledgeable but they made up for it in kindness. We'll be baaack

Just got back from Ahi with my coworkers for lunch. We used to come here often because we work nearby but the quality definitely went downhill. We noticed the water tasted funny and wasn't clear. The miso soup was very salty. Maybe leftover from the previous day and the rice wasn't fresh or good.

Great sushi and also Chinese food. There are 2 rolls that don't have rice. Good service.

    House special, with chicken.

This is such a wonderful spot up in Alpine. We drive from El Cajon at least once a month to come and enjoy Sushi and one of their specialties. And the fact that they have handmade rolls that are half off means it's totally affordable. The food is delicious, prompt, and the presentation is beautiful. I highly recommend this place!

When our first waiter came by, he took our drink order and then it honestly seemed like he forgot about us. About 10 minutes later, another waitress came over asking for our drink order, and we let her know someone had already taken it but hadn't come back yet. We were seated at a hibachi table and most of us ordered the filet mignon medium. The steak itself was tasty, but there were SO many garlic pieces on top, it was honestly a lot of garlic. The fried rice was okay, nothing really special, just egg, rice, and butter. We all received vegetables except my brother-in-law, and unfortunately nobody noticed or fixed it. The restaurant also felt a little dark and cramped inside, especially once it got busier. What felt awkward though was that by around 4:30 PM, the manager came over and basically told us they needed the table because they had more reservations waiting. We were already finishing up eating, but it had only been about an hour since we sat down. For a party of 8 on Mother's Day, it just felt rushed since most places usually allow at least an hour and a half. Overall, the food was decent and the hibachi experience was still fun, but the service and feeling rushed at the end made the experience a little uncomfortable.

Finally got to try this cute Japanese cafe we saw on TikTok, and it did not disappoint!…read more Service: [5/5] The two girls who helped us were so sweet and made the whole experience. We were seated at the bar, which ended up being such a vibe--we got to chat with the girl behind the bar and watch her make lattes and desserts right in front of us. That kind of interaction really sets this place apart. Price: [4.5/5] It's on the pricier side, but honestly it feels fair given the quality of food you're getting. You can taste where your money is going. Food/Drinks: [5/5] Matcha Latte -- We shared one, extra sweet at my request, and it was perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for. Chef Soichi's Karaage -- We had this as an appetizer and my boyfriend made a point to say this is the closest he's had to traditional Japanese karaage. High praise from someone who's passionate about his Japanese culture. Hayashi Omurice -- This is their most popular dish and it's easy to see why. The demi-glaze has a really unique flavor that ties the whole dish together beautifully. This was my pick and I'd order it again without hesitation. Guratan -- My boyfriend's order, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. We were both too stuffed for dessert by the end, which says a lot about the portion sizes. Ambience: [5/5] The restaurant is small, but honestly that's part of what makes it so charming. Pink everywhere with wooden accents and cherry blossoms throughout (very fitting)--it's cozy, homey, and just really well put together. The intimate size adds to the appeal rather than taking away from it. Overall Experience: [5/5] Hatsuzakara was such a wonderful first experience. Yes, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated arriving at 7:30 on a Friday night but for a waitlist-only spot this small, that's actually a pretty reasonable wait by San Diego standards. The food, the atmosphere, and the staff more than made up for it. Already looking forward to coming back to try the curry and work through their dessert menu.

I feel like everything looked really good, so it was hard to decide what to order. The dishes have small portion size despite the price. I think this kinda helps in that you have room to eat dessert! The brown sugar Okinawa tea was good but the after taste of the sugar was not good. They kept the tea pot warm, and they served oat milk on the side. Karaage had too much chicken skin for my preference. Guratan was penne pasta and not macaroni as specified in the menu. Yakisoba could have used more chicken. Omurice had the more flavor and the egg was really good. I want to try naporitan next time because of the tomato based sauce. Of the desserts I tried, the parfait was most enjoyable because of the fruit with ice cream. The mushi pudding was good; it was the thick and "hard" type of flan. I want to try kakigori next time because I saw their shaved ice machine was legit. Parking - free street parking only. Be prepared to walk up/downhill.
