The best restaurant in the East County. Nice little outdoor area for warm summer nights. Food is consistently good. We highly recommend the tutto mare and the shrimp mango avocado salad. The creme brulee and the canolli are fantastic too. They have a decent wine selection and the service is great. Really, what's not to like? You definitely cannot get better so far East. Went for happy hour on Friday April 29, 2016. The 2 of us gals sat at the bar and ordered 1 drink each (we were not offered a menu), saw a few folks sitting in the area to the right of the bar ordering from a gal, so asked female bartender if we could move there, she said sure, (another patron handed us menus) and off we went. We sat and slightly opened the blinds, same bartender who told us we could move ran over and immediately closed the blinds stating the sun blinds the folks in the bar.....OK....whatever! Finally ordered from the HH menu, pizza and the recommended "hand made" meatballs. Food was delivered and that was the last we saw of a server or bartender. The pizza was ok, but the meatballs were raw inside and disgusting. Waited for someone to come, first to order another drink, and secondly, to send back the uncooked meatballs, no one came. While waiting I walked out to the parking lot to access the ATM, came back, still no one appeared. We had to go to the bar to get the check and return our uncooked gross meatballs (to make sure they were removed from the check). Paid and told the bartender how unhappy we were with the lack of service, she said there was no wait staff to serve us, and that they were so busy with the bar because of the bar and restaurant (only 2 bartenders ??). So guess we won't be going back, especially to the bar for HH. Wish bartender would have told us that there was no wait staff in that area to serve us and we would have stayed at the bar. But we were 2 ladies, not men......... This is sad, there is not a large selection of places in Alpine, and they could really make a killing if they had better service, and cooked meatballs! read more

Tried it again since ownership has changed hoping I could love it again. As stated before I've been going there for years and I cannot elaborate enough that the food is awful now. I went here for lunch last week, and it the service was awesome. Not many people were there during peak lunch hours so our food was made rather quickly. I had the pulled pork ragu with rigatoni which I have never ordered elsewhere. It had a bit of heat to it which was a nice touch, and the pork was tender. My friend ordered the macaroni and cheese, which was so creamy it was almost too cheesy (I know, how could that be, right?). Overall the food was good, but not extraordinary enough for me to be craving it again. read more

Hubby and I used to come here often, about 8 years ago. The first time we went, the food was awesome. Second, third and fourth time, the food was eh...burned pizza crust, soupy pasta water in the bottom of the bowl, nothing horrible, just sloppy. For what you pay for their food, I would expect better. So we quit going. Last week, my friend had a birthday, and picked mediterraneo for her dinner spot. I went with some trepidation, and was very pleasantly surprised! I want to bring my husband back, and make sure it really IS good again, and not just a fluke! I used to love coming here. But I can say that I'll never come back on a Monday. I went in today around 6 for happy hour, the guy behind the bar was horrible. Sat there for at least 5 min without service. Only 5 other people in the bar area. I have no idea what he was doing besides looking at his phone and talking to the older guy at the end of the bar. The couple next to us had empty drinks too. We ended up leaving and went next door. The guy behind the bar doesn't seem to care about his customers or making money. First time we've eaten here and everything was delicious! We ordered the artichoke appetizer and they were amazing, along with our meal. Service was excellent. Very attentive staff without going overboard (hovering). They were very appreciative of our compliments on the meal, and made us feel like we knew them. We'll definitely be going back. TERRIBLE! My husband and I used to eat at the old Mediterraneo all the time and it WAS excellent. The first time we called in an order to go, they gave it to someone else and we had to wait an additional 30 minutes for our food. The second time we called in an order to go we got the shrimp risotto and tropical salad..... BOOOOOOO! The salad had ONE grape tomato cut in half and was thrown in the to-go box. NOW FOR THE WORST PART..... The shrimp in the risotto was BAD, the risotto was not cooked correctly and as soon as we opened the box the foul smell of bad shrimp filled our kitchen. My husband and I are major foodies and this was an EPIC fail. Have to say that the staff are all very nice. read more

I have been here twice in the last 6 months. the first time was for brunch and I would give that visit 4 stars because of the endless mimosas and a cute free fruit platter. the meal was tasty my husband loved the seared tuna salad dish, I liked my meal but I cant remember what it was. went to the restaurant again last night and now I am giving it 2 stars. My husband order coffee and the waitress would not let us order our food until the coffee was done brewing. It took about 20 mins to brew!?!? when we were allowed to order it took another 20 mins for the food to arrive. My husbands spinach and cheese crepes were delicious but they were not crepes! the filling was rolled into pasta sheets. He was disappointed and wished he had ordered something else because it was not crepes. I had a light grilled chicken dish with veggies it was great but we wanted to order desert so I decided to eat half and save the other half. I asked the waitress for a box she said she would box it, but she never brought it back! we waited another 10 mins before she came to check on us and we asked for a dessert menu. we ordered molten lava cake. it took 30 mins to get the $10 cake and it was so tiny you could barley see it on the plate (about 2 and half inches around) with one scoop of vanilla gelato on top. it was good but had a funny kinda pasty texture. I would have really enjoyed if it was $5 but not $10. the entire meal took about 2 hours because of the slow service and they weren't even busy. And we were so anxious to get out I forgot to ask the waitress for the leftovers that she never brought back to me. Alas no super yummy overpriced leftovers for lunch today. we might go back for brunch someday but never dinner and I will box the food myself and order my meal with the coffee and only order crepes if I want pasta read more

Been coming here for years now, living east, the food, cocktails/wine, service, ambiance, are all one of a kind, for this part of town especially. The menu is very approachable and executed nicely, I have yet to leave with a meal I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Sat/Sunday champagne brunches are amazing too, with choices like blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes (my gf's favorite) to a smoked salmon croissant or steak and egg breakfast quesadilla...seafood crepes, classic eggs benny.. ahhhhh! How could you go wrong? The bar further proves how great this spot is with one of Nicole's weekly special martinis or Haley's perfectly muddled Mojitos, and a great selection of Alpine beer co. beers? you really cant go wrong here. I'm lucky to have such a great restaurant/bar around here that could easily rival or top anything in la jolla, del mar, northpark, or downtown. When its good its good, and "the Med" as the locals call it, is the place to be. read more

At 66 years of age I have eaten at many restaurants in Southern California, New York, Boston. Some considered to be 5 Stars Plus! I have never written a review before till now. We have eaten here before and always enjoyed the food, but today I had the Sea Bass. Trust me when I say this is a very hard dish to Get Right, in most cases it was only a OK dish or not that bad at other restaurants, but this was a dish that gave me the WOW FACTOR!! The flavor literally exploded in my mouth.. Only because of this did I decided I had to share my experience with others. Service was TOP NOTCH. BTW, my wife had a simple dish of Angel Hair Pasta and she enjoyed it a lot. I can't guarantee that every dish will WOW YOU, but for me it was a very pleasant experience. I have no affiliation with the owners or staff. Just my honest opinion and my very first experience writing a review.. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you decide to give it a try.. What a downturn this restaurant has taken. My husband and I had dinner 12/11 at 5:30 and the restaurant had few customers aside from a large party outside. The waitress had no clue we did not have water or, bread on the table after our meal was served. We had to ask another waitress passing by for this. My drink was so watery and took forever, for which she apologized saying she punched in the wrong drink. My steak must have been a frozen relic and was like rubber. I had to ASK for a steak knife. We ordered dessert and my coffee came but dessert took another 10 minutes after I finished my coffee. We had too many other workers helping us as our waitress just kept passing us by flirting with another waiter and telling him how great his presentation of the specials was...which she got wrong upon us listening to the other waiter give the specials. I will never never go there again, and it's sad because it used to be such a nice spot to relax and enjoy a nice meal. read more

Been to this place many times and it was always great. Now a new owner thinks he can do better. Menu has changed,many old favorites are now gone. I still thought I would give it a go and now I wished I had saved my money. I had the Spinach Style salad and it was dry and tasteless. I ask for shrimp to be added, and I got 4 so-so shrimp for an additional 7 dollars. The shrimp were not fresh and smelled a little fishy. They had been soaked in some thing to try and keep them fresh. The bread was old and dry and fell apart when you tried to use it. My wife had the Med Wrap and is was very salty, almost unediable. The only good thing was the iced tea and they are 3.00 each. The waitress seemed to be uninterested in what I had to say, and dismissed it by saying the new owners have changed everything. I ended up with a bill for right at 40 dollars and that was after I used the coupon that gave me an 8 dollar discount. I will never go back again and waste my money. To sum it up,--FOOD WAS MEDIOCRE, PORTIONS WERE SMALL, AND PRICES TOO HIGH, WAITRESS COULD CARE LESS. THE NEW OWNER NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD BEING SERVED. read more
