The food was good overall, and we enjoyed the quality and flavor of what we ordered. However, we were disappointed with our experience regarding dietary accommodations and ingredient transparency. My girlfriend has a very strict diet due to food sensitivities, so before ordering she specifically asked about the dough, bread, and flours used in the food. Unfortunately, instead of receiving details about the ingredients, she was simply told that she could eat it. Based on that information, she ordered the meal, but later had a reaction to the dough that was used. This was frustrating because the situation likely could have been avoided if we had been given accurate information about the ingredients from the beginning. We completely understand that not every restaurant can accommodate every dietary restriction, but being transparent about what is used in the food allows customers to make informed decisions for themselves. The food itself was good, which is why we're giving 3 stars, but the service on this particular issue left us disappointed. We hope the restaurant can do a better job of providing ingredient information when customers ask, especially for those with dietary restrictions or sensitivities. read more

TL;DNR Whether you're celiac or not, great place. Ramble: I have cousins in town who are celiac sufferers. I researched what was available between Buckhead & Dad's Garage & up popped Mediterranea. Turns out this is the safest celiac certified restaurant in Atlanta. The menu looked good so I booked us a table. Reservations early on a Saturday night aren't difficult. The place was packed by the time we came down and left. It was wonderful to see us all relaxed about the menu and they were so excited to order without concern or compromise. The freshly prepared food arrived. We ordered family style. The lasagnas were good. I preferred the mushroom to the turkey. There was a wonderful butternut squash risotto and a brisket dish, I think. I just remember that it was all really good. Not just good for being gluten free but good in its own right. The ambiance was calm, peaceful, and inviting. The weather was lovely so we opted to sit on the rooftop patio. It's not memorable. Our server was, once she decided we weren't as thick as we looked, became warm and friendly. She was great. I didn't envy her going up and down those stairs repeatedly. We took care to lump our requests and not rush her. I recommend it. read more

One might think that if you open a restaurant that caters to a specific dietary restriction, that it doesn't necessarily have to be good because the people will simply be happy to have a restaurant that caters to them. However, as with nearly every vegan restaurant I have ever eaten at, this gluten free restaurant was freaking fantastic. Lets get service and ambiance out of the way - service was excellent. Manager and server were very knowledgeable and friendly and the restaurant is cute inside, perfect for either a casual meal or date night. We had a great time. My wife started with their special martini which was essentially a martini with limoncello. Very liquor forward but also pretty good. I got their manhattan which was also excellent. As an appetizer, we got their brussel sprouts. They were different - covered in gluten free bread crumbs and mostly shredded - only a few whole pieces - but still delicious. For dinner, I really wanted to try their pizza but unfortunately, they were sold out of the crust, so I got their sausage and pepper polenta instead while my wife got the stuffed zucchini. The polenta was fantastic and my wife's zucchini was delicious. I would get either of these again and again. So thank you to these wonderful people for opening a certified gluten free restaurant with a superb menu. I highly doubt you could go wrong ordering anything they serve. Ok first we need to talk about this chocolate pie. It looks deceiving, I wasn't sure if I would like it when it came to the table because the topping looked so thick. But I am not kidding when I say this chocolate pie might be my favorite food? Not just pie in general or my favorite of this menu but like actually my favorite food I've ever eaten. Otherwise, we also had dinner (lol) which was really delicious. I had the butternut squash risotto which was fairly sweet, I got it without the goat cheese which probably would've added a saltier element to it. My fiancé got the lasagna and noted he could not tell it was GF which is a BIG compliment from him, and he cleared his dish. The focaccia with the appetizer was warm and bouncy. All the staff were really friendly and the restaurant was warm and cozy with Christmas lights up on a cold fall night. Mediterranea is the hands down winner of GF dining in the metro! Mediterranea is not your ordinary Mediterranean restaurant if you're thinking basic kababs or falafel. It is a restaurant that gives you as close to a Mediterranean experience through food and drink as possible. The menu is so carefully curated with GF meat, vegetarian and vegan options that will wow almost any foodie. Thanks to this menu, it makes a great spot for groups with diverse eating needs. We started with the Brussel sprouts appetizers which was shaved and delightfully seasoned. A very nice departure from the oil bombs that many restaurants serve. I would suggest a balsamic glaze to improve. We ordered the focaccia as well bc how often can you find GF bread service? It was fluffy but dry even with the olive oil. My husband suggested that it be paired with a dipping sauce to improve the dryness. There were so many plant based options to choose from that I was giddy bc there was more than just a boring salad option. Even if youre not vegan or vegetarian, if youre looking for light fare or healthy options, Definitely try the lentil stuffed zucchini with the balsamic and tanning glazes. My husband ordered the chicken dish and tried mine and thoigh he enjoyed his dish he even admitted my was better. We ordered 2 cocktails bc even that menu has imported liquors from the Mediterranean that neither of us have ever heard of. Service was very friendly. I hate sweet alcohol. I had the meatloaf which was delicious and the Brussel sprouts were tasty. I had, I believe, a blueberry cheesecake that was exquisite. So light, refreshing and not too sweet. Amazing neighborhood spot! I just moved to Atlanta and was THRILLED to find not only my favorite kind of cuisine right down the block, but the BEST moussaka I've ever had there too! It's so cute and cozy, and they have an amazing rooftop patio when the weather is just right. Everything I've tried is delicious, and the service is always friendly. I love this place and it's become my go-to alone or when I have friends in town. The burrata appetizer always hits the spot too, and they have an interesting wine list. This spot is so cute. Ambiance and service were great. I was a little worried about street parking because I'm terrible at parking but there was so much around the area that it wasn't an issue at all. We split the feta appetizer between four people and it was very good. Only complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough bread for the amount of feta provided. I got the eggplant involtini for my entree. The flavors were amazing! The side salad was very refreshing and needed because it is a lot of cheese, so just be aware if you're thinking of pairing that with a cheese-based appetizer like I did lol. Would definitely recommend the entree though. For dessert we got the lemon tiramisu which didn't really impress anyone in my party. read more

I really wanted to love this place, the reviews were promising, but our experience was mediocre at best. The Highlight of the experience is the rooftop dining. You must sit on the rooftop, it's where everything is happening! However, the food was underwhelming. Our server highly recommended the Baked Feta, it was nothing more than marinara sauce with feta on top, nothing special. The worst part of the dish was the bread to use for dipping had zero flavor and texture just wasn't right. I would not recommend the Bake Feta nor the Mediterranean Dips spread for the same reason- the bread is underwhelming. Our main dish of the beef kabob was the highlight- would order again! Lastly, the service was very slow & forgetful. It was a Friday night & tables were full, they just seems to have forgotten our table entirely. Probably the most gluten free friendly restaurant I have ever been to. Their entire menu is gluten free and their staff is super knowledgeable about allergens and what's really in the food. I came here for late lunch and Aja was our wonderful server who made excellent recommendations. The turkey feta meatballs and the involtini were definitely my favorite dishes here. We also ordered the truffled fungi pizza, which was vegan and gluten free. I was a bit hesitant but it surprised me and was super delicious. Overall, a wonderful meal with great service and they even have a lovely patio area. I can't wait to make another visit to Mediterranea soon read more

I come here semi regularly for date nights with my wife, group dinners with friends and family, etc., but I realized recently that I've never left a review. I ordered a carrot cake to pick up this evening and my wife and I decided last minute to stay and have a slice with a couple of drinks from the bar. I had a mock tail and she had a glass of rosé. The drinks were excellent as always, but the cake was out of this world. I love carrot cake, and I love all of the gluten-free baked goods from Mediterranea, so no surprise that their carrot cake was the jam. It's a great reminder for me to keep this place in mind for this type of thing. They are always on point delicious. read more

Went two days consecutively. The first day, my partner and I were blown away. Being on vacation we went all out -- ordered multiple appetizers,2 additional orders of focaccia, lamb risotto for each of us and a couple desserts to top it off. They were busy and the restaurant seemed lively, and it felt like the entire room gave off a yellow glow and an energy of people having a good time. All of this, and the restaurant being 100% gluten-free, and we were blown away. We knew we couldn't top it, so we came back the next day for our actual 5 year anniversary. It was a weird change in tone from the previous night. The place was darker, our waitress came off a bit abrasive (though she grew on us a little), and across the board the food was less of a hit as the previous night. A lot of small slights, like biting down into pieces of olive pit in the tapenade, and allergy information having miscommunications. The Tunisian Fish Stew didn't cater to my palette as well as the lamb risotto, being very one-note and mostly consisting of many lentils. Quite the opposite of the risotto that I looked forward to each bite with. The desserts both nights were great, with no complaints. We ended up pretending the first night was our anniversary dinner, and learned the lesson that if you have a random magical night...maybe don't try and have it again, and leave the experience be. Still a 4 in my book. Our first night was amazing, and especially for a gluten-free facility both the dishes and desserts offered are very impressive. read more

This is a hidden gem that deserves a bigger spot light. It's tucked in a neighborhood and if you're not familiar with the area, you would easily miss it. My first time having their food is getting to go from them; I don't believe they're open for dine in yet from the looks of their dining room area. We originally got the Greek salad with chicken, broccoli salad (so good) and dolmas. A few minutes after placing our order online, I received a phone call from the restaurant advising that they're still preparing chicken and will not be ready within the 45 min time frame they said my order will be ready so I opted for tuna instead. Tuna was nicely seared atop a Greek salad. The broccoli salad was also so good! It was charred broccoli with some cilantro pieces, sunflower seeds, peppers and baba ghanoush (it had more of a hummus consistency IMO) tossed in a tangy dressing. Order of dolmas came with 3 pieces which honestly was plenty enough. They also serve brunch on the weekends and from other Yelpers reviews, it looks delicious and will be trying next! read more

Disappointing all around. We entered to a vacant dining room and were not greeted for several minutes even though a bartender looked at us the entire time. Once we were seated, the appetizer of feta and tomato sauce was ok but no side plates were given which made it difficult to eat. The cocktail I ordered was a pre-mix which was not mentioned on the menu, but was better than my partner's martini which he ordered dirty and instead was served with a lemon twist. Entrees: risotto was overcooked and the moussaka was flavorless. On top of it all, service was slow. Pre-pandemic we visited this place and it was just ok then, but also brand new. We were hoping to have a different experience tonight and chose it for a birthday dinner. Sadly, it didn't deliver. Next time we will go to Little Bear or Talat Market. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this place by accident while looking for a place to eat before we went out. We ended up very pleasantly surprised. The host greeted us promptly when we entered and gave us our choice of inside seating or rooftop. While I waited for my friend to come out the restroom, I perused the bakery case. Without me even asking, the host came over and named EVERY ITEM and gave suggestions! The roof top seating is limited, but it is so cute and perfect for summer evenings! For my appetizer, I had the stuffed artichokes, which were vegetarian. Very tender and very savory. For my entree I had the mussels, which were on special for 1/2 off! The broth was rich and savory and vibrant. After I finished, I sopped every bit of it up with the focaccia it came with. It was just that good. Yum! My friend who is vegetarian had the involtini, and ate every morsel. On my way out, I grabbed a slice of the homemade key lime pie. DIVINE! SMOOTH! CREAMY! Everything was AMAZING. So fresh, so flavorful, so vibrant! Though I am seeing a bit of inconsistency when I compare my photos to other reviewers (yikes!)- out food was beautifully plated. The service was impeccable! We stopped by on a Saturday for brunch with 2 other friends. We were afraid of brunch crowds but were able to go ahead and get our name on a list, and the quaint restaurant wasn't crowded at all. Food and drinks were really good - we ended up trying the root veggie hash, omelette, cheddar chive biscuit, and green shakshuka as well as bloody marys and Prosecco cocktails. I didn't try my friend's omelette (I'm vegetarian) but my hash was good, I only wish it was a significantly bigger portion. My husband's shakahuka was good but not what either of us had in mind (I think we were both picturing something more the consistency of a creamy green curry?) and full of big chunks of greens in a runnier broth. It really needed something to soak up the sauce and thankfully he ordered a $3 biscuit (which was delicious but $3?) which helped. Thank you, Mediterranea, for a superb dining experience! Since being diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2011, this is the first time I've been able to experience a restaurant like "normal" people do every day. It might be a small thing, but being able to order anything I want from the menu makes a huge difference in my world. The spare, nicely-appointed space is open and welcoming, with a gorgeous display of delectable baked goods at the entrance. Attention is paid to detail -- lovely crisp cloth napkins, beautiful tableware, and clean, unisex restrooms. A friend and I opted for an early lunch, and I'm happy to say the food exceeded my expectations. With so many choices, I was torn between the flatbread pizza, the hummus sandwich, and the turkey souvlaki sandwich. Ultimately, I opted for the turkey souvlaki, Mediterranea's version of a gyro, packed full of turkey and feta meatballs, and all the traditional Greek accompaniments. For my side, I opted for the hot soup of the day, a fresh lentil cup of deliciousness. My dining companion chose the niçoise salad, which looked as beautiful as it tasted. For dessert, we shared a slice of almond pound cake and a cup of coffee. Hoping to make it back for dinner one evening in order to enjoy more great food and an adult libation or two. Mediterranea is a cute restaurant nestled in the middle of the Grant Park neighborhood area. It blends it with the surrounding area so make sure you don't miss it! There is only street parking but you can park very close to the restaurant. As a grant park restaurant this is one of my favorite and go to restaurants in the area. They have an incredible menu with a delicious view on their rooftop for gathering during the spring through autumn seasons. It is really a treat sitting up there and enjoy the surroundings while eating. As many of the other reviews have stated this is a a gluten free menu, which as a healthy eater, really pleases me. You can see they really take into consideration all the items in their menu. As far as the appetizers go, the baked feta is a must! It is delicious and you get to have their gluten free bread. Before you go running, they do gluten free bread so well and you will be happy of your decision. Another favorite is the meatballs. As for entrees I had the eggplant and it was amazing. One of the better ones I have had in a long time! My partner had the steak frites and our friends had the risotto. Everybody had empty plates by the end of the meal. I really love this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anybody in the area. There were a few mixups with the orders (wrong dishes brought to us) but they were quickly fixed and the staff are great! read more
