This is the best restaurant in Normal from my experiences so far. They have a nice variety of dishes. I had the Brussels appetizer, and the black and blue burger, and the jambalaya. All of the food was excellent, the servers were great but I had one simple omission both nights, the cooks missed it the first night and got it the second night. The wine is not of the same caliber as Stave. I do wish they would consult with Stave on wines to stock. A perfect night in normal is two glasses at stave and dinner at Medici. read more

I have food from Medici pretty consistently and I can say they've become one of my go-to local restaurants. Here's a review of a couple items. Medici Burger: My go-to order and it's typically great stuff. Do recommend. BBQ Brisket Fries: The brisket is flavorful and tender. Medici's barbeque sauce is usually quite ketchup-y and overbearing in of itself but it's well-balanced in the symphony of flavors here. Honestly, you could order this as a meal in of itself instead of an appetizer. Unless you're sharing it, it's a big enough portion for a single person. I recommend it overall. Sweet Potato Tater Tots: A majority of the time, these are typically a pretty good side/appetizer. They have a pleasant sweetness to them. However, when they suck... they suck. A not insignificant number of times I've ordered these, they've been blackened around the outside accompanied with an unpleasant burned flavor that permeates through the entire thing. From my own experience cooking sweet potatoes, I understand it's easy to overcook them with all the sugar already present in the vegetable. Thus, I won't count this against them too hard. Truffle Fries: If you have the option to get these as a side: DON'T. They suck in every single department a French fry can: bland, under-salted, slightly soggy, and chewy. Stacked Brownie: I've had this item only once and for good reason. The flavor is nothing offensively bad, but kind of disappointing. The brownie itself is basically a generic. brownie flavor, like a store-bought one. The portion size was a tad big for my liking, especially after consuming a whole entree and appetizers. The ice cream was all right though. Overall, I'll have to give this place a solid 8/10. As much as I love the burgers here, I can't in good faith give this place anything above the 8's. The sweet potato tots are inconsistent, the truffle fries suck and the brownie is meh. I might change my score in the future if/when I order other items. read more

We usually go to Medici for drinks, rather than food. They have an outstanding selection of mixed drinks and cocktails. I highly recommend the Permanent Vacation or Safe Sex with Chuck if you like sweet, tropical drinks. The rooftop patio is really nice too. Presentation is good. Price is reasonable. You can park in certain parking lot for 2 hours. Most parking is 1 hour on the street. Nice window shopping if you want to take a walk. I came here after work with a few co workers, I asked the waiter for his suggestions of what is his go to on the menu. He talked highly about the Smoked BBQ brisket, so I gave it a try. Not sure if it was an off day or what? But I ordered the worst smoked brisket I have ever had! It was not even smoked, it was super dry and extra extra well done! There were no smoked ring or anything, just an oven burned brisket. However the potatoes and beans were really good. We also ordered the pretzel buns and Brussel sprouts which were really good! I would definitely order those again, but I would stay away from the brisket that is for sure! read more

Had the steak, the audacity to charge 32 bucks for that is insane. Honestly one of the worst I have ever had. It was small and burnt all I could taste was burnt meat. It came with asparagus which was also charred completely and just tasted like ash. It also came with some mid macaroni and cheese that wasn't worth my mouth to chew. My family and I drive over an hour to come here. We had the jalapeño poppers for our appetizer and genuinely I don't believe I've ever had anything better in my life. My entree was the jumbo ravioli and I was not disappointed. The sauce was very delicious. Everyone in my family loved the food and the restaurant itself. Our waiter was very kind and funny. He conned us in on the crème brûlée and it was amazing. Very light and creamy. We were sat right away and didn't have to way long for our food. The Good: 1. The restaurant was accommodating when we decided to dine earlier than our reservation. It was kind of them to make us the brisket fries, even though it was before dinner time. 2. Friendly staff. The Bad: 1. Cleanliness - you know it's bad when you are seated and the table and seats are dirty with crumbs. It's not a random crumb here and there. The entire dining area had not been wiped down. I had to use the menu and napkin to clean the table top and the seat of the booth. 2. Food temperature - The brisket fries were almost hot. The loaded potato soup was lukewarm. I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to be served? My entree was the same. I ordered the short ribs entree. The garlic mashed potatoes were cold. I had my dining partner taste them to verify I wasn't wrong. Are they supposed to be cold? The Brussels sprouts were room temperature. The short rib was "almost" warm. The only item that was actually hot was the chicken quesadilla. 3. Food taste - everything tasted bland. Maybe because it was served, not hot? The soup tasted and looked very watered down. I was expecting something creamy. The brisket on the waffle fries wasn't smoked or bbq'd. Maybe it was slow cooked? 4. Service - it seems like most restaurant servers ignore refilling water glasses. Medici follows that trend. Overall, this was the most disappointing experience at Medici. It was a complete waste of money. I was so embarrassed that I had recommended this restaurant to my dining partner. Especially with all the options in the area. I absolutely hate making a complaint or sending food back. How do you complain in a restaurant without looking like a jerk or having the staff spit in your food? Why serve food it if it's not hot? read more

This is one of the Top restaurants in Normal. Not quite on par with a big-town (Chicago) place, but close!! We came here on Parents weekend for Illinois State and space was at a high premium. Every decent place in town was booked solid. (We had reservations weeks in advance) We were greeted promptly and were seated in a short period of time. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The service - especially considering dinner rush with place at 110% capacity - was good. The food was good and served hot with appropriate portion sizes. The deserts were delicious. We had the Beef Stroganoff which was delicious, but the crème brûlée was amazing, and the pumpkin cheesecake was a slice of heaven. I took my sister there for her birthday pretty much based on pictures from their website of their cheesecake presentation. It surpassed our expectations. The server was a little slow to take our orders and on checking in and bringing the check, but he was so pleasant and helpful with gluten-free suggestions, we could forgive the slight delays between server visits to the table. We had dinner here our last night in Normal, and it seemed we truly saved the best for last! We were seated on the upstairs patio which was beautiful. The atmosphere was relaxing and beautifully decorated. The cocktail list was great; I opted for a rose mule which was delicious and a perfect fit for a summer day. For my entrée I had the salmon brulee. Oh my was this good! Caramelized salmon, asparagus and gouda mac and cheese. This is not health food my friends, but worth every calorie. I ate the whole thing and regret nothing. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the glaze was slightly sweet and wonderful without being overpowering. The asparagus was grilled perfectly. The mac and cheese was decadent and wonderful; it was creamy and flavorful and a true treat. As if I had not stuffed myself enough, I ordered a lemon tart for dessert which I did share with colleagues as it was a very sharable size. The almond crust, fresh lemon filling and freshly toasted meringue were delicious. I also tried some of a colleague's chocolate strawberry martini was amazing as well. Service was excellent; our server was friendly, knew the menu well and courses were nicely timed. Only one server seemed to be handling the bar and the entire bar area, so service was a little slow. The pretzel sticks and salad were delicious as was the Medici pizza. The salmon dish was over cooked so I wouldn't recommend it. But I would definitely steer away from the jambalaya. No spice and very "tomato-y". Not worth the price. My husband and I went here right as they opened one day because we had a billion and a half things to do the rest of the day but it was a rare day off work together and wanted to enjoy a little uptown Normal time. I've got to say, this place is so nice, dare I say "too rich for my backwoods blood." Our server was really nice, I had the black bean burger with asparagus and my husband had a hamburger with fries. Their iced tea (why is it so hard to find sweet tea in IL?) was actually pretty good once sweetened up.
