Came with coworkers to grab lunch since they said this is their go-to spot for Indo food in this area. This is more of a market where food is cooked fresh but pre-packaged for purchase, and they have other grocery items to shop on the other side. I didn't take much of a look but I believe it's Indonesian snacks and grocery items. At my coworker's recommendation, I got the Tumeric Rice Set. They have microwaves inside to heat up the food a bit and some outdoor seating. They have free water which is very nice. The setup is very homey and mom and pop vibes. The rice set was pretty good although some of the side dishes are a bit spicy. The chicken was flavorful but on the sweet side. The crispy potatos were also good with the tumeric rice. This is a good grab-and-spot for some good Indonesian food and groceries. I would come back to try something else.

We drove from Northern California with two ice chest to check out the hype. We do not have many Indonesian restaurants so we arrived on a Saturday morning shortly after opening. The main road was closed due to a festival so we had to take a few side streets. We bought over $500 of food to try and bring back. I thought the rendang with chicken dish was good and the wrapped in banana leaf with rendang and chicken were both good. I think we will need to go back and try a few more dishes and we liked the desserts.

Totally spoilt for options here. They have everything I could think of. And everything looks so good! They have everything from snacks to entrees to desserts and also groceries. I went there thinking I'm just going to buy 2 items max. Wrong! This place, unlike many places around the area takes credit cards. There goes all my money! Lol. I ended up with a basketful of food. I just couldn't help it. I ate them, not all, as soon as I got home and each one of them was delicious and authentic. I know this will be a stop for me whenever I visit LA. They're just that good.

If you are in LA and craving authentic Indonesian cuisine and snacks, this is the place to visit. Having started during the COVID era by a lady and grown immensely popular, it has become a staple for me every time I'm in town. Whether you're looking to dine in or grab something to go, they offer a complete range of familiar Indonesian dishes. The "Grab & Go" Advantage: What sets this place apart from other Indonesian restaurants in the LA area is the convenience. You don't have to wait for an order to be prepared; you can simply grab what you need and go. The only real wait you'll encounter is the queue to pay, which can get long during peak hours! The Food: Most of the food is prepared fresh in-store daily (typically Thursday through Sunday), with some items sourced from other quality food vendors. Favorites: I highly recommend the Nasi Bungkus and the Lontong Sayur. The portions are very generous. Pro-Tip: The small rice platters are perfect for a single, satisfying meal. The Experience: While the flavors are authentic, the consistency can occasionally vary. In terms of pricing, it has been trending higher. You'll find a great selection of Indonesian snacks, spices, and instant noodles here as well. A Note on Pricing: While some imported goods are priced quite high compared to what you'd find in Indonesia, I understand this is likely due to rising shipping costs rather than profit margins. Some items are very reasonable, while others might feel a bit outside the "logical" price range--I usually just stick to my favorites! Overall: A wonderful, fresh, and convenient spot for anyone missing a true taste of home. I'll definitely be back on my next LA trip. you just feel like you are in Indonesia.

Let's try some more Indonesian food for the first time. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. They have so many yummy looking options but This time I got their banana fritters, coconut dessert, iconic Nasi Padang, and turmeric rice plate to try. The banana fritters had a nice lightly crisp batter coating a slightly firm sweet a bit tart banana topped with some shredded cheese that didn't really taste like anything and some fun cocoay choco sprinkles. The coconut dessert was thick and had creamy coconut pudding, soft sago, pretty purple rice, chewy mochi balls, and perfectly sweet coconut milk. I got their special shredded beef nasi padang with the chili on the side and it had a bunch of stuff from fragrant flavorful rice, a fried boiled egg, a tiny bit spicy shredded beef, crunchy cucumber and peanuts, and a soft fluffy smooth potato croquette. Pure deliciousity. The tumeric rice plate also came with more of that yummy rice with some fun crunchies, a chili sauce, a beefy piece of beef rendang, slightly sweet savory bell peppery tempeh, fried chicken piece, and a hard boiled egg in some a bit spicy chili sauce. Everyone is so nice and hardworking and the food was super flavorful and had the perfect balance of sweet savory and a bit of spice for life. Overall this place is pretty good. Turmeric rice plate $20 Shredded beef wrap $18 Dessert $10 Fried banana $13

This place is absolutely incredible. Tucked away behind a restaurant in a smaller strip, Medan Kitchen is a grocery store that dishes out hot take out and prepackaged meals. Upon entering you are surrounded by several main dishes traditional and popular from rice plates and noodle soups to desserts and snacks. I got the small box of tempeh for $10 and one of the rice packets in banana leaf for $18, the cashier was very pleasant and helped me look for the rice chicken dark meat as they have so many varieties available including rendang beef. The staff was very helpful and he helped me microwave my food. I went outside where they have benches and tables and one of the older cooks invited me to sit at the bigger table. When I bit into the tofu and tempeh I knew I was in heaven, both were very flavorful and tender and the dipping sauce was similar to fresh sambal but very aromatic and tasty. The rice packet was stellar, it came with a chicken thigh some cubes tofu and green beans and a melange of amazing sauce and chili and other spices. This has got to be the best Indonesian food I have ever had in the US. I definitely will be returning here.

Since my boyfriend is Indonesian, we drove an hour just to come to this market so he could get some of his favorite dishes he's been missing in OC. When we walked in, we were greeted with a bustling atmosphere with so many grab & go items, snacks, drinks, and more. The meals we got were so so delicious and it was my first time having Indonesian food and I loved it. I couldn't tell you the names of all the dishes but everything we got to eat there and to take home was an absolute hit. While sitting outside enjoying our meal, the owner was standing nearby and enjoying seeing everyone enjoy their food. I could tell she was looking at us for a bit and eventually left and came back out with a piece of beef rendang on a banana leaf to hand to my boyfriend. SO CUTE!! Loved this place so much and we'll definitely be coming back to try more. Lovely welcoming service who treat you like family!

Stopped by on Friday, 08/29/25 for the first time. My boyfriend recommended this place and wanted me to bring some food home for my mom who was born and raised in Indonesia - so this is the perfect place to bring 'home away from home', back to home! This place is huge! I purchased the following to go: - 1 Bakmie / Bihun Ayam = $14 - 1 Fried Rice / Nasi Goreng = $14 - 1 Gorengan Singkong Goreng = $9 - 1 Jajan Pasar MK - Otak-Otak = $12 - 1 Sido Muncul Tolak - Angin Permen Herbal Peppermint Lozenges = $2 TOTAL (INCLUDING TAX (9.5%) = $4.25) = $51 The food was a bit pricey but worth it since this was made in-house and the authenticity is off the chain! My mom was really happy and loved it! :) I will make sure to come back next time and bring my mom with me.

Medan Kitchen is a well-known spot amongst my Indonesian friends; I had to try it, but... at an unpopular time... because getting here is tedious here during rush hour, and parking here is atrocious on the weekends... (iykyk) The menu is on the window, but the interior features thin aisles. Upon walking in, I was surprised that it wasn't a restaurant but instead a small market that had prepared food to-go. Everything looked freshly prepared, and in fact even picking out the Nasi Padang that I wanted, I noticed it was lukewarm. The staff noticed that this was my first time and were quick to jump in and help with paying and even warming up our food. Eventually, I ate at the tables outside. Need a drink? Water is self-serve, but of course being a market, there's also the option of Indonesian drinks and snacks in addition to the main meal. Inside the Nasi Padang, I enjoyed the beef rendang, chicken curry, and green chili. The spice was just right, and there was a generous amount of luscious rice. Filling? Yes! This could easily be two meals for some, and if treated like fast food, it'd be priced competitively! Impressively, hardboiled eggs are my least favorite form of egg, but... I tolerated the ones here. Yes, I'd gladly stuff another! (If only I had the stomach space for a second Nasi Padang, though...) Thankfully, they're to-go, so a second had to be taken to-go!

I've been wanting to try Medan Kitchen for a while and finally went on a Saturday afternoon. It was quick crowded, which is a good sign, but manageable. All the food items are neatly prepacked and clearly labeled in both Indonesian and English. There is an overwhelming selections of snacks, sweets, full meals, noodles and soup. Food is room temperature but perks up and taste fresh when heated. This is the perfect spot for food adventurers. Be warned that some dishes are quite spicy and with the massive selection, you can easily find yourself spending $100. Staff is friendly and happy to assist. There are tables immediately outside for those who want to eat right away. Fun exploration. I'll be back to try more new dishes.

Nasi Lemak
Edward S.

Medan Kitchen is an Indonesian market with several tables containing ready to go food. There's plenty of turnover, so the items are restocked frequently. Walk the aisles and grab whatever tickles your fancy. Nasi Lemak: Nasi lemak is a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan, and wrapped in a banana leaf. This bundle has fried chicken and beef rendang, accompanied with fried anchovies, peanuts, sliced cucumbers, fried shallots, hard-boiled eggs, and sambal. There are fried potato matchsticks that are crispy and thin. Dining Area: There are half a dozen tables out front. Parking: The strip mall has a large lot with a couple rows of spots.

Juan F.

We've been here a few times. Its a nicely sized Indonesian mom and pop shop that offers a variety of Indonesian pre-packaged meals, snacks/candies, and desserts up front when you walk in. The meals are stacked and ready to grab and go which is what I usually come for. Its definitely worth coming here because the food is tasty and its fairly priced. Very filling and delicious. Parking could be tricky because the plaza has many businesses and the lot is small.

We were seated really quickly, and the food came out fast too. We originally planned to go to another Malaysian spot down the road, but the wait was over an hour, and they didn't have the noodles I wanted. I'm honestly so glad we ended up here because we loved it so much that we ordered two noodle dishes to have leftovers. It's definitely a no-frills kind of place, but the food speaks for itself, really good, flavorful, and satisfying. Definitely more expensive than your street food in Malaysia but it's the best you can get for CA . One thing I would skip is the cendol. It was much more like a sweet, sugary drink than the shaved-ice-style dessert I was expecting. Would absolutely come back for the food.

Singapore Laksa (6/10) - the curry was rather thin and lacking in flavor but maybe that's because it's intended to be more of a soup. I would've preferred rice on the side instead of rice noodles. Next time I would get the actual curry instead of this, but that is just personal preference Roti (8/10) - probably the best thing we had. It was simple but very delicious, flakey and decadent. The curry sauce was much thicker and paired along well, giving a sweet and mildly spicy flavor Nasi Campur (7/10) - the first bite was delicious, but gradually became more monotonous after each bite. I think the ratio of fried chicken thigh to the sausage and cha siu was slightly off, adding to the repetitive nature of the dish. Overall, it was still quite good

While I was staring at the menu deciding whether I wanted to get anything, several people came and went with their orders and everyone told me to get the fried chicken. So, I went inside and got the fried chicken with macaroni salad. A few mintues later, I added a katsu musubi to the order. This is not fast-food. The wait is real. About 12 minutes. I then had probably about 10 minutes of driving before I sat down to eat. The fried chicken is delicious and has a great crispy/crunchy skin. There is a faint sweetness that coats the chicken. The meat was not super plump like some national-chain places (I think those places brine-injected the chicken). Depending on your preference, this might feel too dry to you. Their dipping sauce for the chicken is very tasty. If they just sold that in bottles, I'd come just to buy that for use at home! Speaking of preferences, the macaroni salad is also well made, but it's simple and might be disappointing if you're expecting some kind of flavor kick. I liked it very much, because it is in the style of the basic macaroni salad -- someone described it as going home to Hawaii for them -- and I think that's what it is. Portions were enough to split into two meals. So I had half of my chicken and the mac salad. I had planned to also only eat half of the musubi. But it was delicious and had a nice crunch which I'm sure would not have held up being kept in the fridge. I really enjoyed the musubi on its own, but also enjoyed taking turns with bites with that sauce added on. I stored the rest of the chicken and mac salad in the fridge and then had them for dinner 6 hours later. Despite being in the fridge, the chicken still had a bit of a crunchy bite to it - it wasn't a mushy soggy mess. Very friendly service. This is not a sit-down place you go to for a dining experience - just a solid place to get food to go that will be delicious. Now that I've had the fried chicken that everyone seems to recommend, I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu.

It's very rare to find these authentically served here in California even. And I was determined to pass down these gastro memories to my grown children. After five minutes of sampling this meal, their eyes lit up, faces zoned, and feasting was frenetic. This was the "IT" they'd been craving too. We ordered 2 rice dishes (Nasi Rendang, Nasi Lemat). Both were nicely presented with spicy chili paste peanuts, fresh cuke, lightly blanched crunchy cabbage, specially prepared hard boiled egg and tofu wedge (complete meals) AND meat dish (crispy chicken, or tender stewed beef chunks). These were both slightly different than my memories but delicious. We ordered noodle "soup" Laksa (flat rice noodles in red coconut curry with hb egg and plump shrimp). Wonderful. Bingo. And a fried noodle dish - Borneo style Kwai Teow, exactly captured a familiar special flavor while added crispy vegetable brightened the dish. Bingo again. Perfect. Appetizer Gado-gado (Indonesian salad topped with large tofu, sprouts, peanut sauce, hb egg) was loved, if not exactly as I remembered either. Nice fresh romaine lettuce too. What was not perfect but worth overlooking? Yes service is brusque at times depending on individuals, but fast and attentive. Don't expect chili paste or sambal blachan on the table, and don't try the watered down stuff on offer in plastic condiment dispensers. However all dishes proved we needn't have worried - perfectly seasoned already. The Roti bread, served with a small but ample cup of red coconut curry, was lovely and delicate, but only 1 piece per serving is a ripoff. We ordered two for the sake of the feast and still emerged below budget overall. Drink selections were a bit limited, but green tea and Thai tea are offered alongside the usual lunch fare. Water is served chilled. Total bill surprisingly reasonable to fill 3 of us completely with take aways enough for a few luncheons thid week. Very grateful family here. Thank you.

Nan Gyi Thote: Dry noodle mixed with chick pea flour and savory chicken. The chicken is very flavorful and the noodles are bit thick like udon noodles. Spicy Fried Catfish: This dish is great, but there's a lot of bones. This dish isn't for ones who eat their food fast. It's actually popular more amongst parents that love seafood. Pretty similar to how the Vietnamese prepare their catfish.
