Visited meadowsweet again but this time had a bit of an underwhelming experience. We went on a Wednesday night for an early dinner. When we visited on a weekend before we had such an amazing experience and the best salmon. This time around we had the artichoke, a truffle pasta and my boyfriend had the steak. The food was decently sized but the taste wasn't that great. It felt under-seasoned. We did have a nice Sancerre-esque wine though. We really enjoyed brunch at Meadowsweet. The ambiance is nice, there's enough space between tables, and service was quick and attentive. We shared the donuts to start which were warm and messy, and went well with the caramel sauce. We got an avocado toast which was well sized for the price, and the goat cheese frittata which was delicious, and we also shared an order of fingerling potatoes which were great and topped with caramelized onions. All of the drinks we got - champagne, white wine, espresso martini, and a dry gin and Prosecco cocktail, were good. Would like to try this place for dinner as well - definitely recommend. read more

It was nice to re-visit Meadowsweet after such a long time, including a lackluster dinner (it was no surprise to me they finally lost their Michelin Star) and a fairly decent brunch. The decor looks really pretty in the daylight, and it is bustling at brunch, but maybe a touch too cramped. They could lose a table or two for more breathing space. The Bloody Marys were good. The menu was just delightful. But... Their bar was slow, but their kitchen was even slower. It took an hour and fifteen minutes from the time we were seated to the point at which we received two omelets. Gonna repeat that: an hour. and. fifteen. minutes. We sat watching people who had been seated maybe half an hour after us receive their food, while we watched kitchen staff laughing and joking around. I just...what??? They were apologetic, but honestly, should have comped the whole meal. The food is good, solid, but not as extraordinary as it reads on the menu. They are, without a doubt, very friendly, and genuinely so. It took quite a while to place our order to begin with. Two cocktails on an empty stomach while waiting that long for our food felt punitive. Something isn't working, whether it's management, or the kitchen, but how can I return? I can't trust this restaurant will have its shit together, I had to apologize to my friend for picking Meadowsweet. So many other choices... read more

The ambiance at Meadowsweet is the perfect combination of rustic without feeling pretentious. I can tell the wait staff takes great pride in their work and the place was packed, which is always a good sign of a well-run establishment with recurring customers. The first dishes my group ordered were the Crispy Baby Artichokes and the Spanish Octopus and Chorizo. The artichokes are a must-have - a perfect combination of acid from the lemon and umami from the parmesan. This dish was a party in my mouth texturally and would recommend anyone order it. The octopus was outstanding - bright from the peppers and tasted rich without weighing you down. These were my two favorite dishes of the evening and would highly recommend both. For our main course, we ordered the Tajarin & Truffle pasta and the Braised Duck Ragu Pappardelle. The Tajarin & Truffles was very light and fragrant but the pasta was in my opinion, slightly over, and didn't have that chew we all crave when eating fresh pasta. The duck ragu was decadent in all the right ways - the pasta was coated evenly and the richness of the duck paired nicely with the pappardelle. The staff was extremely professional and made some great recommendations. We started with the crispy artichoke salad for appetizer. It was a wonderfully balanced dish. It had crispiness from the artichoke yet had softer arugula and grated parmigiana cheese. It had a creamy dressing which paired well with the bitter arugula. For our main courses, we had the crispy chicken sandwich and the cheeseburger. The two items helped me realize the incredible intention to detail. All of the ingredients paired well together to make very well balance items. Particularly, I really enjoyed the bacon onion jam which was incredibly savory and the fried chicken which ultra juicy and perfectly crispy. The fries were great too. The have a great selection of whiskeys, beers, and wines. The wine list has some great options but isn't overwhelming. read more

This place is fantastic. My fiance and I came here during the week and did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. I think the tasting menu is $85 each and it's worth every penny. There wasn't a single course that wasn't phenomenal. Everything is perfectly portioned out- I felt full by the end but didn't need to be rolled out. Some of our courses included truffle pasta, carrots over yogurt and pistachios, salad, a fish course, duck, scallops, sorbet, and ice cream with chocolate cake. Everything was so good and we ate every single bite. They ask for dietary preferences at the beginning of the meal, so I told them I don't eat red meat. I recently transitioned from being a pescatarian for over a decade and am still dipping my toes in. They brought out a duck dish and I just couldn't eat it- I've never had duck in my life, it's so far off my radar that I never even thought to mention it- the waiter noticed my fiance eating my dish in addition to his. He asked if anything was wrong and I asked to order an a la carte dish instead, but he brought me a plate of the most amazing scallops I've ever tasted (and let my fiance keep the extra duck, which he was psyched about). This was totally my bad and I was willing to pay for an extra dish, but he took care of it so quickly and didn't make me feel like an idiot. That was much appreciated. It's been a minute since I've eaten here and the cocktails are still incredible (got the tequila drink, but switched it to mezcal) and the bread is as good as I remember. We got the beets and goat cheese app (incredible), the octopus (also incredible) and then tajarin (to-die-for good) as apps. My main was the waygu beef and it was so so so salty -- it was cooked to the right temp, but all I could taste was the salt crust. The desserts are still as good too -- I once again ordered all three and if I had to choose one? The crumble was the star of the desserts list. I've been pondering this review for a few days, and I've just begun to recognize the meaning of this restaurant's name. It must have resonated subliminally when I chose to dine here, because farm-to-table is my cuisine of choice. But in thinking about how I might sum up my experience here, noting the fruits of pastures is a good route to go. Everything here feels fresh, bright and grounded. It's not a surprise that the couple who runs the place also runs a farm upstate and is deeply committed to seasonal and updated eats. I left here feeling nourished and content while knowing I witnessed an impressive display of creativity and technique. This was a 4.5 star experience for me, yet I'm faced with two options that say two very different things. Most of the time, I round 4.5 down to four because after all, its the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of the Very Good. But four does not scream "exceptional" in the way that five does. And we had some exceptional dishes. And, for what it's worth, the bf (known in my reviews as simply, "the bf") rated Meadowsweet five stars without blinking an eye. So here we are. Meadowsweet the quintessential Upscale Brooklyn Experience: sophisticated and refined but ultimately down to earth and cozy. Made a reservation for 7:15pm on a Saturday night. We had some trouble getting out of the house because of an impromptu puppy birthday party (you read that right) so we were running several time slots later than expected. Thankfully, while still underground, I managed to reach a hostess at Meadowsweet who said that they hold a small portion of their tables for walk-ins, and they would happily seat us at 7:45. As one might expect, natural elements abound here. Wooden accents, brick, exposed rafters and a beautiful loft adorned with cascading plants. The energy is bright and lively -- while upscale for Brooklyn, it doesn't feel uppity or exclusively and there's a somewhat communal vibe here. Part of the draw of Meadowsweet for me was the cocktail program. The drink menu here is fresh and varied, and features herbs grown in Meadowsweet's indoor garden! I'm not sure if it's because this earns me some hippie credits or whatever but that makes me extra happy to know. I had two drinks, both of which were fantastic. My first was the The O.G. (knob creek rye, st. george spiced pear, lavender, lemon & olive oil) which was complex, creative and well-balanced. My second -- the No Margin For Error (dry rye reposado gin, cointreau, lemon, lime, agave) -- was far more curious but delicious all the same. I'm allergic to tequila so when I see "reposado" listed adjacent to any drink, I steer clear. Yet this was a gin cocktail made in the style of a tequila drink, and it was outstanding. The food here is equally creative while staying true to the earth's demands. Ingredients are showcased in the way God intended with a dash of whimsy. I highly recommend sharing everything, as we did. Eats, below: Chilled market oysters w/ yuzu mignonette, horseradish, lemon: A- We threw these in at the last second. They were fine -- nothing special but still serviceable. Loved the yuzu topping -- these particular oysters were fairly mild so they took it on nicely. Crispy baby artichokes w/ shaved parmesan, baby arugula, parsley & lemon: A+ One of the menu's stars. The bf is artichoke-averse, but I was able to convince him to put aside his judgments and just give these a whirl given all of the rave reviews. He too thought these were outstanding, so I applaud his willingness. Perfectly crispy and super flavorful, the parmesan really taking it to the next level. Spanish octopus w/ fingerling potato, piquillo pepper, kalamata olive & salmoriglio: A Solid octopus dish: well-cooked and well-seasoned (not always the easiest task), fairly traditional preparation and each element was well-executed (well, well, well, what do we have here?). Kyoto carrots & red badger beets w/ labneh, balsamic, ricotta salata & cardamom: A The "extras" at Meadowsweet are not to be ignored. We ordered them both (see below), and both were fantastic. The beets and carrots were a wonderfully seasonal dish, fresh and vibrant. The ricotta is just a light showering, not heavy-handed as I've seen in similar dishes. Grilled broccolini w/ black garlic aioli, parmesan & mollica: A+ We almost skipped this one but I'm grateful we didn't. Rich and earthy, served atop some killer sauce (maybe the black garlic aioli) that was super flavorful and paired beautifully with the veggies. Spiced duck breast w/ mole poblano, roasted acorn squash, braised red endive, spiced honey & duck jus: A+ Everyone's already said it: this is a must-order. It seems this is a menu staple, but it's absolutely perfect for the current transition into the dark depths of winter. Served with delicious seasonal accompaniments that all worked perfectly. We came in on a Tuesday at 8PM for our reservation and we're quickly seated. The host was polite and attentive, and we appreciate his fast work. We were pretty excited for Meadowsweet because of what we had heard from others. The food was amazing. My friend and I each ordered an entree and shared the maitake and ricotta toast appetizer. The appetizer was delicious and a very hearty portion -- it was enough to be someone's entire brunch. The entrees were lovely, too. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes because I'm used to smaller plates at star restaurants. I had the salmon while my friend had the duck, and both were very filling. The reason I'm dropping stars for this review is because of the service. Our server, after taking our first order, never checked up on us again for the whole meal -- she wasn't even the one who gave us our checks. Our wait times were unreasonable: after we finished the appetizers, it took at least 45 minutes for us to receive our entrees. The table next to us has recused/finished their appetizers after us so we assumed that something had gotten wrong with one of the dishes. However, the customer should be notified of any changes like that. When the food came out, our server didn't set down the food properly and set it down at an angle so that the sauce under my salmon had hiked an inch up the side of the plate -- as a server myself, I was shocked to see such carelessness in handling. Multiple times we tried to flag down a server for our check and water but none seemed to be paying attention to the floor and were more interested in standing and chatting with each other. What a fantastic and memorable experience! I took my girlfriend to Williamsburg-based Meadowsweet to celebrate her birthday this weekend. This Michelin-rated restaurant features a streamlined menu with a focus on locally sourced herbs and vegetables, a broad selection of seafood, and a number of tasty protein options. The service we received was nothing short of outstanding. After placing an order of drinks, our waiter brought over two complementary glasses of champagne to mark the occasion. Talk about hospitality! Gee, I wish I would have thought of that myself (whoops). All I did was select "birthday" on the online reservation system... and voila, champagne! Once we settled in, our waiter explained the menu, daily specials, and provided a brief tutorial on their uniquely sourced farm-raised oysters (I inquired). We couldn't resist! We went with a half-dozen bivalves and an order of the Spanish Octopus. While we really enjoyed the octopus, their farm-raised "deep cup" oysters made quite an impression! Definitely among the best we've tasted. For mains, we went with the American Waygu Bavette and Spiced Duck Breast (cooked medium-rare). Both dishes were excellent, but OMG that Waygu beef - melt in your mouth goodness. For dessert, we went with the Apple Tart Tatin - it was perfectly executed. I didn't enjoy the food, the octopus appetizer wasn't good. in addition, the service was really strange. the waitress was not personable and seemed like she didn't want to be there. We came in and spent a decent amount of money and tipped decent, the service could have been better for being a "high end" restaurant. I was pretty drunk when I arrived at this restaurant but looking at the pictures I remember eating the empanada, octopus and chicken entree. My friend actually liked the chicken. I really wish I could have given a better review to Meadowsweet, but between my two visits, back in December and earlier this month, my experiences can best be described as inconsistent. The first time I went in December, it was for outdoor dining. While what I remember the most about my experience is how cold it was outside (it was outdoor dining only due to the pandemic), I do remember that my friend and I shared appetizers, and most of them were excellent. I particularly remember a burrata on top of root veggies with nuts. I liked it so much that I ordered it twice. I also enjoyed the vegetarian empanadas. There was an Indian-style soup (pumpkin or kabocha or butternut squash) that was ok, but otherwise I remember the food being pretty good. We ordered a few more items, but I don't remember them as clearly. The service was also on-point. I do remember that when I left, my impression was that I wanted to return to Meadowsweet, and return we did. I went back last weekend for indoor dining. I appreciated how they had a legitimate covid protocol that made me feel safe. We also experienced excellent service - but the meal was inconsistent. We also ordered a few sweet cocktails. I can't remember what they were called, but one was a fruity drink in a martini glass, and the other was a fruity drink on the rocks. They were both very well-made. We started with the olive oil rolls with honey butter. The rolls themselves were great - super soft, fluffy and warm. The honey butter was not what I expected. The temperature of the butter made it a bit too soft for my preference - it was almost at melting point. Moreover, there was no sweetness, and the honey flavor was supposed to be extremely subtle. I personally felt that it was too subtle - I could barely taste it and my friend couldn't taste the honey at all. For our appetizers, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and the burrata with the green goddess sauce. The fried tomatoes were really good, and were topped with a sour ranch sauce. The tomatoes were battered and fried, so they had a crispy outer crunch, with a firm but still soft-enough-to-bite green tomato slice on the inside. The fried green tomato was good, but the real star of the show was the burrata dish. The burrata was on top of tri-colored cherry tomatoes, pickled shallots, and the best green goddess sauce I have ever had in my life (with flavors of lemon, fennel, spinach, and a complex blend of other flavors). Even after the burrata, tomatoes and shallots were gone, I used the rest of the olive oil rolls to get every last drop of the green goddess dressing. Which is why I was so shocked when I tasted my main course. My expectations were high after the amazing appetizers. I ordered the only vegetarian main on the menu - the roasted mediterranean cauliflower. The cauliflower itself was literally just a steamed cauliflower topped with lemon juice and pepper, but the seasoning was concentrated on certain parts of the cauliflower, while other parts of the vegetable were bare, bland and flavorless. The cauliflower came with two too-hard and too-dry falafel balls on top of bits of labne and babaganoush that tasted . . . ordinary (bland - there was no dimension to the flavor of either). The dish as a whole was deeply disappointing. That this was the only vegetarian entree felt to me like the restaurant was giving a middle finger to vegetarian diners who dared order a main course. The entree was deeply disappointing after such a good buildup with the appetizers. Moreover, my friend, who ordered the wagyu, said that it, too, tasted ordinary, like something you could get at any steakhouse. Nonetheless, we ordered dessert to see if it would help lift my mood after that entree. My friend ordered the blueberry crumble, and I ordered the lavender honey panna cotta. The crumble was really good - my friend and I both liked it. The Lavender panna cotta was . . . a precarious adventure to eat. The panna cotta itself was delicious - firm and well-flavored. However, it was topped with a passionfruit sauce that was, with no exaggeration, literally the most sour item that I have consumed in my entire life (imagine biting into a lemon, and multiply that tartness by at least 20). It was uncomfortably sour, and dodging it was the adventure. There were raspberries on the plate as a garnish, but I dared not eat those as they were covered in the sour sauce of doom. When the waiter asked what I thought, I had to tell him the truth (that the panna cotta itself was good, but that the sauce was "really, really, really sour.") He immediately informed the manager who came by. I told her the same thing, and she brought it to the kitchen. I appreciated that they took my concern seriously. They also comped us for the Panna Cotta. Would I recommend this place? If you're a vegetarian, then I'd suggest going elsewhere, at least until Meadowsweet offers a proper vegetarian main course. read more

First of all, food is dope. Legitimately spot on. What keeps it from five stars were two things -- (1) It gets LOUD in here y'all. We had an early reservation on a weeknight so it was borderline empty when we got there, but filled up fast and got hard to hear. Not crazy, but noticeable. (2) The A/C was broken when we were there and it was the hottest fucking place I've ever been. Definitely felt for the staff, but they didn't really do anything to accommodate? No water, no fans, no offers to move outside or anything, but it was easily 100+ degrees in there by the time we left, and other patrons were turning around at the entrance because it was so hot. A one off to be sure (at least I hope so), but I was surprised they didn't make any effort at all to accommodate diners who were already there. read more

I'll start by saying the wait staff was really nice. And the bartenders very knowledgeable. We were sat fairly quickly as the restaurant was empty - we did not have a reservation. . Usually I would take this as a bad sign but neighboring establishments did not have openings. Unfortunately, though the food was satisfying, the staff seemed off and unable to properly pace our meal. I also heard a gentleman who seemed like a manager talk badly about tables. I understand that anywhere the staff will have opinions, but please save it for when you are not around tables. Thanks. Arugula on top was nicely dressed. A little bit salty. Duck breast (5/5) - absolutely phenomenal flavor. Sauce had a nice bbq / smoky flavor, and the seasoning on top was amazing. So juicy and tender, and the purée was delicious as well. Can't say enough good things. Wagyu (5/5) - again, super juicy and well cooked as medium rare. Vegetables and potato were delicious. Also a very large portion. Apple tart (3/5) - had a smoky flavor I wasn't expecting. Not quite an Apple pie flavor, almost had a bitter taste to it. But ice cream and sauce were good, but wish there was a bit more ice cream. Will definitely come back and try more of the menu, but everything was absolutely delicious. read more

Just yes. This restaurant is perfection. I have been often, both with other people and alone and every single food selection has been divine, seriously. There is a Cavatelli Nero & Maine Lobster & Scallop that is making my mouth water right now while writing this. The craft cocktails are fantastic, and Kevin behind the bar can make you anything you want with a big smile. The wine selection is lovely. The seating is very good for dining alone, there is a large "chef's table" I think it's called? And you sit with other people, I always end up in interesting conversations. 1 Michelin star in Williamsburg that has an $85 - 5 course tasting menu or you can order a la carte. We preferred a la carte and got 2 appetizers and 2 mains. Complimentary fresh warm bread and butter were delicious. spanish octopus $20 - fingerling potato, piquillo pepper, kalamata olive & salmoriglio. Excellent dish - reason for its popularity. One the best octopus dishes I've had. cavatelli & braised duck ragu $19 - honeynut squash, savoy cabbage & fresh ricotta. A rich pasta dish with a fair amount of shredded duck. Very flavourful. I could have used a bit more ricotta. scottish salmon $30 - black trumpet mushroom, celery root, walnut, celery & apple. This was a fairly straightforward and most pedestrian of all the dishes. spiced duck breast $36 - mole poblano, roasted acorn squash, braised red endive, spiced honey & duck jus. This was an amazing duck dish. Duck was cooked medium rare and was so tender and had a nice sprinkle of heat and then the mole sauce was divine. I found the squash a bit too sweet for me and the braised endive was lost in the dish for me. Casual service but nice. Laid back vibe - there were two babies (quiet ones) when we dined. Came her for brunch on a sunday around 11:30 and it was packed!! Glad we had made a res. To start one person in my party has Celliac and is Gluten Free so they were super accommodating and cautious with everything. We started with the burrata chopped salad and the empanadas which were both great. We also ordered the spinach and chorizo omelette (which was my favorite), the chicken sandwich, the lox hash and poached egg (which was cooked smoked salmon, potatoes and eggs which was... interesting), and the huevos rancheros. All were very good. There's no iced coffee though, just regular coffee which was delicious. Our waitress was nice but not the friendliest person? But all other staff members were very interactive and friendly. Maybe just an off day which we all have. Will definitely be returning and wanting to try the dinner! read more
