Food (3.7/5) - If I could summarize this experience, I would say the food was generally salty. - We ordered the olive oil bread rolls. While the rolls had a really nice, fluffy texture, they definitely added way too much salt. The salt sprinkled on top was also not necessary as well. The butter was nice and creamy, but I wish they added some level of sweetness or acidity to the rolls to try to balance the saltiness of it. If you're going to order the rolls, make sure to dust off as much of the salt as possible. - I'm not sure if it's because the olive oil rolls were salty and that's what I ate first, which affected my palate for the rest of the dishes, but I found everything else to be a tad too salty as well. - We ordered the Spanish octopus. I liked the acidity of whatever the octopus was laid on top of, but I also thought the octopus was a tad salty. I wish both of the components blended together a bit more harmoniously. Instead, it kind of felt like I was eating two separate elements. Other than that, the octopus did have a nice chewy, texture to it. - The burrata dish was pretty good. I think I enjoyed it the most out of all the dishes we ordered. The pasta was nice and chewy, the cheese was nice and creamy, and the meat(?) was well-seasoned - The crispy baby artichokes was also nice, but kind of forgettable. - The raspberry rhubarb crumble was really nice. Every component of this dish blended pretty well with each other. It was crumbly, tart, soft, chewy, and creamy (from the ice cream). Great dessert! Service (5/5): - Service was amazing. They kept checking on us every once in awhile. My server was honestly awesome and very helpful. No complaints here. Lovely little restaurant with a great relaxed unpretentious crowd and solid food. I'll be back. I was turned onto this spot by a colleague who frequents all the best food establishments in NYC, she said this place "always" has good food and it didn't disappoint. We ordered about 10 items on the menu for a group of 3, these are small tapas type share plates and so you'll need several dishes to make this a full meal. I enjoyed myself so much that I neglected to take photos of all the dishes. The food was so good, the flavor profiles nicely thought out and the presentation pleasant. This was my first indoor dining experience since early March 2020 and it felt so good. The squash and burrata dish was decadent and unique - we "missed" it as soon as we finished eating it. The chilaquiles were pretty good too, though would've tasted better warm. The Sunrise Sunset drink was perfect. I definitely wouldn't have felt comfortable with the indoor set up if my partner and I hadn't been fully vaccinated, but I appreciated that the staff all wore masks appropriately and each table had hand sanitizer. Absolutely amazing! Quite possibly the best meal of 2022. For starters, I recommend the fried green tomatoes. Simply the perfect amount of tartness with a crunchy shell swimming in a tangy ranch dressing. The baby artichoke heart salad was delicious, perfect pairing of roasted goodness, peppery arugula to lemony freshness. My main I had the meadowsweet cheeseburger while my wife ordered the roasted butternut squash. Highly highly recommend the butternut squash, never have I wanted to eat butternut squash so much more then a burger. Both were delicious and everything on the menu probably is. While it is still dry January, a peak the cocktails and the wine list already is reason enough to come back! The Scottish salon, done medium rare, was melt in your mouth delicious and perfectly crusted with flavor and texture. Absolutely stunning piece of fish atop a leek base. What a delicious dinner! I took my husband here for his birthday. I made reservations through opentable a few weeks in advance. But since we went for dinner at 6pm on a Tuesday night, it was not that busy. I think you could have walked in and be seated (but better to be safe than sorry). For the starters, we ordered their Crispy baby artichokes, and the fried green tomato. Both were phenomenal dishes! The artichoke was delicious and perfectly fried. The fried green tomato was SO good! The tomato was so tart and the cheese and the sauce all worked well together. For the entree, i had their roasted butternut squash. It was the best veggie entree i ever had. It tasted healthy and was flavorful. Each bite had a taste of truffle with veggies and the butternut squash was well roasted. My husband had their cheeseburger. Although i didnt take a bite out of his burger, the fries that came with the side was well fried! My husband enjoyed his burger. For the desserts, we had their blueberry crumble and the flourless chocolate cake. The best brunch plate that I've ever had. And I don't speak that easily. Felt like I was eating a dinner entree for brunch - in a good way. Duck pastrami hash & poached eggs, caramelized onion, parsley salsa verde & local greens. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the salsa was great. The duck and the hash was other worldly. Tons of duck. In almost a stew of small potatoes perfectly softened. In some type of gravy. Wow. Even the greens are great. Nice light dressing. Almost salty. Service was friendly and attentive. I didn't know what to expect. They have a Michelin star but the atmosphere is really casual - that set up cognitive dissonance in my mind. We made a reservation and they were ready for us when we arrived. They also let us know that they were very busy. I ordered a boozy mescal cocktail. We ordered the artichokes, octopus, scallops, tajarin pasta, and bavette steak. After being on my list for years, we finally ventured to Meadowseet for dinner on an unseasonably warm evening in November and were able to enjoy a nice meal outside with our dog. The restaurant has a corkage fee for $35, so we brought a nice bottle of wine with us to enjoy. For my appetizer, I chose the fried tomatoes, which were delicious. They are a large portion though and since they are not gluten free, my husband was not able to share them with me. I thought about updating my review but thought I'd write a new one. This is, without a doubt, the finest and most authentic restaurant in Williamsburg. Michelin Star without the unapproachability of most Michelin establishments. The service is amazing. The seasonal menu is so amazing I can barely decide on a recommendation. The chicken, for instance, is my go to! Bite through, crispy skin. Sometimes a miso glaze. Sometimes German style. Outrageous. My wife orders the duck or salmon. Note: I cry and seethe when she peels the the skin of the duck. It's a sin against god and man to skin a bird. Moving on. As I mentioned previously, she holds that the salmon is better than Le Bernardin. Amazing compliment as LB is considered by some to be the finest seafood resto in the world. The space is very "Williamsburg@ - rustic, original, cozy and unpretentious and packed at 8:30 on Friday night. There was great energy and buzz all around. We were warmly greeted and taken to our table. Server acknowledged our friend's birthday as we were sitting (nice attention to detail). Drinks were so delicious; I tried "Another Lover" and it was great. Starters: olive oil rolls were freshly baked, served warm, with whipped butter and was delicious. Highly recommend it. Crispy baby artichoke - a must try; amazing flavors and great textural contrast Salmon Tare Tare - nightly special. Loved it Main Courses (as pictured) Scottish salmon - perfectly cooked, fresh, with an inspiring green curry sauce. I want that bottled and shipped to me Spiced Duck - highly recommend Chicken - the most flavorful and moist chicken; who knew chicken could be this delicious. One feedback I have is, I understand it's a difficult time with Covid and I am doing all I can to support businesses but I do not agree with them automatically adding a Covid recovery charge onto the bill without consent. I know there may be backlash for saying this but charging that without any prior notice or consent seems wrong. Should they have asked/made it voluntary, I would have gladly donate. Meadowsweet was the most solid restaurant that I had been to in the first few weeks I had stayed in NYC. I expected a certain standard since it had a Michelin star and it did not disappoint. We came here for dinner during the summer at about the time of sunset. One of the employees was putting up some lights against a plant wall that gave the restaurant nice ambiance once night had fallen. All the food I ate at Meadowsweet was excellent. As starters, we tried the roasted thumbelina carrots, spanish octopus & chorizo, and the cavatelli & fennel sausage. All three dishes were excellent and left me wanting more. For my main course, I had the roasted chicken breast. I usually don't prefer chicken due it often being too dry or a bit tough, but this chicken breast was cooked to perfection. It was very tender, soft, and moist. It was also sitting in a small pool of miso broth that further enhanced the experience. I would definitely recommend the roasted chicken breast as a main. For dessert, we had the lavender honey panna cotta and flourless chocolate cake. I am a big fan of lavender flavored things. The honey lavender panna cotta was delicious and I would recommend that everyone order it. We got burrata with figs and olive oil rolls to start off and I got the zucchini cake for my entrée. Burrata was great. Very casual, comfortable space, service is good, bathrooms were dirty. The wings were juicy and the sauce had a good flavor, the skin wasn't crispy, it had more of a gummy texture. The star of this dish were the vegetables and sauce, we couldn't get enough of it. The chicken sandwich was crunchy and juicy, served on a brioche bun. I came in on a Saturday (after not calling for reservations ) and despite how busy they were, my date and I were NOT disappointed. Cristina, who greeted us, was handling the floor with grace, touching tables, making sure everyone was taken care of - guests and staff. I assume she's a manager or lead host and was able to get us in without too much wait. The drinks were so well curated and our dinner was great. Been wanting to try Meadow Sweets for a while and finally took the plunge. Glad I did because it was fantastic. The whole evening from start to end and in between was spot ON. The service was exceptional. Seated right away and our waiter was on his A game. Very attentive and helpful throughout the service. The food came out timely and was absolutely delicious. Order the following: Burrata- the star of the dish was the spicy rub on the fig and peach. It had a rich middle eastern/ south East Asian spice to it which elevated the flavor profile big time. The pesto was a nice touch. The sourdough crisp was so unique and the perfect pairing. Of course the burrata itself was fresh and creamy. I would order this again! Burger w salad/ fries- Damn! The burger was perfect. Cooked to temperature. The onion bacon jam added a nice sweetness to the otherwise meaty burger. The cheese was melted and when put together just worked so well. You could tell that they rested the burger and cooked it appropriately. No bloody runoff. We got two burger orders - one w a salad which was fresh and one with fries which were as expected and great. The bread & butter pickles were also tasty and obviously house made. Another point on the burger there were no extra adders so no sauce or standard toppings and I thought that was really impressive. The burger stood out on strong ingredients with beef cheese and the caramelized bacon jam. This was a home run. For what it's worth- it's the best burger I've had in Williamsburg. I came here this past Saturday as an early Valentine's Day Dinner with my gf since Valentine's Day was on a Monday and the Super Bowl was on a Sunday smh. I believe they used to do a prix fixe menu but it was a la carte this time. Food: Tuna Tartare: I can tell you I am NOT a seafood person, and I really avoid anything seafood (anything from shrimp to sushi, it's just not my thing). With that being said, I gave this a shot because I like giving every item a chance. It actually turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the whole dinner, 10/10, please get this! As someone who doesn't really like seafood, I'd order this again just for me :) Chorizo Empanadas: It was your classic empanada with green sauce. The meat was cooked really well, a tad salty, my girlfriend said. The crust was crunchy, the cheese was melted, and the meat was seasoned well, I would certainly order this again. American wagyu bavette: As a steak person it's really hard for me to not order the steak, so alas, another steak to check off my list. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was seasoned perfectly. The meat was tender and flavorful. Everything with the steak complimented it so well. They added some broccolini, and as someone who doesn't eat vegetables at all, I really really enjoyed this addition (ahh don't tell anybody haha). Spiced duck breast: My girlfriend actually ordered the duck, but I had to add a quick note because this was the real star of the dinner. The duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare as well and was quite possibly one of the best ducks I've ever had. All I can say is, please get this duck, 11/10. Brown Butter Almond Cake: The almond cake was perfect. As a baker, brown butter can be tricky and if done poorly, you can certainly tell. That was not the case here, this was done extremely well, my only gripe was the passion fruit sauce. I know that it added some color to the plate but it was extremely extremely tart. I'm not a huge fan of that amount of tart but to each their own. Atmosphere / Service: The staff was amazing and I really loved the attention we got throughout our meal and the recommendations from our waiter. My favorite restaurant in NYC (and if you know NYC, you know that it's one of the greatest cities for food in the world). This restaurant is one of those few places where I can confidently say that every single plate wow'd me. Every single bite, flavor, consistency and pairing is so well thought out and executed. My favorite plate of all time will be the cavatelli duck ragu with fresh ricotta. I would visit NY just for this plate. Not only is the food insane, but the service is also super attentive and even gave us two free rosé glasses because we were close to the door and felt the cold from outside (February in NY). Wow. It really was so disappointing that the food was so grossly overshadowed by the incompetent service. The first course took over an hour to come out. My friend didn't like her drink and the server offered to replace it - and did so with a random non alcoholic drink that she claimed we had requested? To top it off they charged both our cards for an entirely different tables order (a table of FIVE) and barely apologized? This should NEVER happen at a restaurant of this caliber and THANKFULLY I asked for a receipt!! They compensated nothing and we were told to call back if the charge wasn't refunded in a weeks time. I came here for brunch on a Sunday. My friends and I were there on time and our table was ready at the time that we had reserved which I loved. It seemed like this place was poppin cause all their tables were occupied when we arrived. Granted the tables are socially distanced so they really cant seat as many people as they would like to. A lot of brunch places do this and dont have bottomless mimosas which sucks but we ended up buy a bottle and making out own. I ordered the meadowsweet burger. I love the attentive service here! The chicken was moist and the burger was juicy. Burrata was light and fresh and the gnocchi was actually very good and filling. I might pass on the bread when I come again though and make room to try the asparagus and/or artichoke that looks pretty good. I'd also try the duck and wagyu next time (definitely will be coming here again sometime). The ambiance was casual but elegant and that's the perfect mix for me. I can see why they haven't had a Michelin star since '21. - Incredibly salty food to the point where they had to remake the scallop main because it was inedible, and the temp. on the duck was inconsistent with salty veggies. Tiny complimentary coconut macaroon for dessert. - The octopus appetizer only had 5, 1-inch sized octopus and the diced chorizo was overcooked and tough. - Service was lackluster with no water refills until the end of our dinner; basically, our waitress never checked up on us. - Food took 40 minutes to prepare and they try to pack as many tables as possible in a tight restaurant so it's incredibly noisy. read more
