I read the reviews for this place before hand and decided to try it out anyway. It is definitely seems like a "locals" place. Meaning, if you aren't known, it seems you don't get fast service. While the bartender was talking to the guys at the bar, we waited 15 minutes before getting an offer for a drink.
I was ok with waiting because the place was fairly full and there were only 2 waitresses working. We sat ourselves at a table for 3 and proceeded to order the sampler platter. The wings were quite good, with a sweet glaze as well as the chicken goujons (tenders)
We all had main entrees of a cheddar burger, beef stew and the chicken curry. The burger looked and tasted as good as the stew and the chicken. I asked the waitress if it was spicy hot, and she said no. I was hoping for a little kick but it was still good.
Everything was served very hot. This was my first trip to Dublin and it seems that all of the prepared food is served extremely hot. It did take about 2 Guinness for the food to arrive, but it was well worth it.
The Guinness is excellent in Dublin. Every place seems to serve it settled and ice cold. I had heard that Ireland serves it at room temperature, but this was not the case for any that I had.
I gave McLoughlin's a strong 4 star rating because the beer and food. I only stopped from giving them 5 stars because they were understaffed for a Saturday. read more
