Cheese platter & the "Drunken Sailor" cocktail at Hartleys. Cheese platter served with gluten free crackers! (*coeliac high 5*)

Hartleys is an unsuspecting chic restaurant just by Dun Laoghaire harbour. I went for the vegetarian burger which was absolutely sublime. Really very tasty. The staff were great and a bit of fun too. They do a good value house wine in a litre caraf which helps add a bit of value as it is more expensive than usual. Not sure it's a young scene there and I missed the ability to cross the road into a funky bar or head into a nightclub. Too out of the way for me personally, but if that's your local then your in for a treat.

Excellent experience all round. Friendly reception on arrival. Nice table with good waiters in attendance. Good wine menu. Found a well priced Sauvignon Blanc and a stunning French Cabernet Merlot to accompany our meal. Starters included chilli shrimps, asparagus and halibut. Mains included a T-Bone steak, a ribeye steak and the chicken dish. Rounded off with a warm banana dread pudding with caramel icing. Will definitely return sometime soon.

    Apple and blueberry crumble!

The last 2 years my girlfriend and I went to Hartleys for our anniversary. We couldn't have had nicer service both times and lovely food.

The chicken wings to start were great and then I had the surf and turf which was delicious.

Another shocker! while discovering the exceptionally pleasant walk along the sea in Sandycove on…read moreSunday I also happened upon another new eatery which I had never heard of... tummy rumbling and child shouting we ventured forth. The Martello is a charming little bistro - the sort you really wish was within staggering distance of your own front door, sadly for us it would be a considerable stagger - some 10 miles - and there is no amount of alcohol of an eve that will keep me going that long. Inside it is perhaps a bit dark during the day but in the evening you don't notice this. The cuisine is European I guess; I can't nail it down any more than that. They do Seafood - glory be, a seaside restaurant that knows what a fish is! - this is a favourite rant of mine, not half enough fish places about... The menu is a set affair for 25Euro pp for a 3 course meal but splash out and pay the supplement of 4.50Eur and get the Dublin Bay Prawns, worth every cent. The Mediterranean Seafood stew is likewise worth a shot, lovely with a bottle of good dry white wine!

This place is great. The bf took me here for a special, we are almost done with the thesis. WOOT…read more I had the pasta Sophia, which was a bit of heaven, with its salmon and prawns swimming in a lovely sauce of cream and tarragon. The kiwi had a steak, which was one of the most perfectly cooked steaks I have ever had. The service was perfect and lovely. They even remembered we had to be out of there by a certain time to make a show, so the food was prompt and beautiful. Add to that the fabulous gay couple sitting next to us, who were lovely, chatty, and told my bf how fabulous his outfit was. It was like home.
