Drove over here to meet a social worker to pick up my 3 year old niece (was taken from home due to drug abuse). Parked as far from the main entrance as possible. Parking lot was mostly empty. Social worker was running a little late (an estimated 20 minutes) so I walked over to Taco Bell to pick up some food for my niece. Was gone about 15 minutes and returned to an employee preparing to tow my car. Apparently as soon as I left the vehicle they were going through the motions. No human interaction at all that we weren't allowed to park there nor any apology when we explained ourselves. We don't typically visit the area so we did not know the practices, and the signs were not explicit. Apparently they would rather focus on any kickbacks they get from the tow company than interacting with a person. Will not return to this store. read more

I'm a big DIY-er and usually visit one hardware store or another about twice per week. McLendon's tends to be on the expensive side compared to Ace, Lowe's and HD. But it does have its charms, and its good points. On the up side, it is a GREAT place to go for specialty plumbing parts and fixtures. I can't count the number of times that I have found whatever item I was looking for in plumbing at McLendon's, when none of the other stores had it. I always check there BEFORE going to a plumber's supply store. They also have the best end-of-season specials on outdoor furniture and BBC grills. I have scored some amazing deals there. The other nice thing about McLendon's is simply the atmosphere. As others have mentioned, it has the selection of a large home improvement store with the atmosphere of a small town hardware store. I have always received friendly, helpful and non-patronizing service, whether it be in plumbing, electrical or lumber (I mention that last because I am a woman). For all those reasons, I enjoy shopping at McLendon's. It's just that their prices are on the high side. But I do recommend them! read more

I bought a chain saw used a few years back. As you can guess the blade was dull on it. I went to the competitor and got no help. However, when I went to McLendon the guy actually showed me the exact correct replacement blade and took my chain saw apart and installed it for me!!! At the other places you can rarely find anyone to help you much less install it for you. McLendon's is the best for service and employees that know their business. Oh yes, and the replacement chain was even less expensive at McLendon's than at the competitors. read more

Great store, good customer service. I like their gardening supplies, and electricals. Good variety. Cashiers are fast. One of the better hardware stores, the price is okay but much better than True Value which is expensive. Don't come here and expect the employees to come to you and ask you if you need help, you have to to find someone and ask for help yourself. I like going here on some occasions for gardening and lawn care. Parking is great, location is awesome, sweet deals when you use their coupons. I recommend this place, it's not a mega corporation like Lowe's,it's family owned. They're more customer service oriented rather than caring about selling. read more

I'm a DIYer and for the most part the big box stores have what I need but when I need an odd seal, bolt, or other specialty part I head straight to Mclendon. The vibe in the store is completely different and every time I've had a question I was answered quickly, courteously, and with knowledge. The employees at the big box stores usually have that deer in a headlight look whenever I have a question more complicated than where is so-and-so. The prices are a tad higher than the big box guys but the selection feels like it's of higher quality overall. Because this is a smaller store the return policy isn't as generous so I reserve most of might-return and big dollar purchases for the big box guys. Overall Mclendon Hardware is a super store that will fit most people's needs. read more

Heard a lot about McLendons but it's a 12 mile drive from my Issaquah home and Loews is up the street. However, I went there to purchase deck stain and I am so happy I made the drive. The gentlemen in the paint department was so friendly and knowledgable. I had to wait a bit but it was worth it. The stain was not one of the four or five colors off the shelf, it was made to my color specifications. I love the customer service and have been back several times since. read more

Wow. It just, simply.....does not get any better than this. Lowes is very close to me and Home Depot is on the way to them....but it's worth the trip to go to McLendon! I just wait until I have a list and I go there. Why hasn't anyone else caught on???? McLendon could be DOUBLE the price of these other places, and while I might stop and think about it for a moment....I would still pay it! If you have never been here, plan on spending a few hours, minimum. I wish they had a restaurant like Ikea. Well, I needed a small piece of drywall.5/8ths thick like 1ft x 1ft. I hear from 2 different workers, "we only sell it by the sheet unless there is scrap" I told them there wasn't scrap, then I hear " then you'll have to buy the whole sheet". I explained that they have 1 x 1 ft. squares in 1/2 inch for convenience, why not have 5/8ths as well? After talking to the manager I am told they could cut the sheet down so it would fit in my truck. Long story short I spent 16.00 for about 1.00 worth of drywall, told them to keep the rest. I don't get why they can't cut one sheet into smaller squares and charge accordingly. Maybe that would take brains. However, I was told they sometimes have scrap pieces, like that is somehow supposed to help me. Normally get much better answers from McLendons. They can do better. read more

Awesome place. It's what I always thought the big box stores should be. They seem to have everything I would need for my home renovation project, and it's all easy to find. The brands and prices all seem good. Good vibe too. I found myself browsing as if it were a toy store, and stumbled quite by accident onto the one obscure furnace part I needed. I had a minor plumbing emergency I needed to take care of, one of the water valves/ water lines was leaking under my bathroom sink. I first went to Ace Hardware since they were the closest, but they didn't have what I needed. I then went to the next closest hardware store which was the Lowe's at the Landing in Renton. They didn't have what I needed either. I then went to Mclendons, and they totally took care of me. The associate in the plumbing dept was friendly and knowledgeable. I LOVE McClendon's. Their prices are fair and consistent with the national chains (you know who I'm talking about), but their employees are SO much more knowledgable. There are actual plumbers who work in the plumbing section, etc. They know their products, they can give advice how to use them properly, and it is always easy to find someone to help you out or answer questions. It's the kind of place where you can walk in with the leaking parts from your kitchen sink, talk to an actual plumber who can give exact advice how to fix it (and you don't have to hunt all over for a plumber, because they always have plenty of staff working), walk out with the exact parts you need to fix it, and have it done right the first time (which I did!). A great local, family business that I absolutely adore. You can't go wrong at McClendon's! read more

I was pretty disappointed with the lack of customer service, the employees really lack any kind of people skills. I don't like to shop, but I do like being noticed & paid attention to, something that wasn't done. I felt ignored. All the employees seemed interested in was stocking whatever it was that they needed to stock which is fine but the other part of retail is PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CUSTOMER & offering help. I'm 50 years old & customer service is below par these days. Another issue was that I wanted to test out a light therapy lamp. There was available a power surge strip to plug the lamp in. When I plugged the lamp in, NOTHING! Very annoying. So the equation: Lack of any customer service + dissatisfaction of not being able to test a lamp out that I needed for this awful weather we're having equals a store that doesn't get my money. Sale lost. This McLendon's sucks! I had a stressful experience . Big waste of my time. read more

I Love McLendon's. We moved to Renton 25 years ago and I've learned that if I need a specific part and " for the handywoman challenged" McLendon's the place to go. I love "old time family hardware stores". That's McLendon's for you! The staff is consistently helpful. Once I needed help fixing a plumbing thing and they helped me learn how to do it. I even went back for another part and they remembered me. Once I needed a special wooden dowel for an old bunk bed and the staff would not give up searching for it even though we ALL could not find it! Wouldn't you know it, much later he found it! I love all the extra canning supplies and spare replacement parts. McLendons was the only place that had parts for my Aladin Oil lamp. More impressive is that they knew what it was. Yes, the new McLendon is not as cozy and crammed packed as the old one but the staff, stock and atmosphere has not changed! It's the only place to go! read more

I finally was smart enough to call McLendon's. I barely had to explain anything and the guy was Johnny on the Spot with an answer. Eventhough they didn't have the part, the gentleman pointed me in the right direction to find it! AWESOME customer service! We just completed a kitchen remodel and as part of that remodel we needed a back door and a storm door. Tim A. At McLendon Hardware in Renton was our " go to guy". He worked with us to make sure that we got the doors we wanted. He knew all about the products and guided us through the process of selecting just the ones we wanted. He showed us things about the doors that we didn't even know existed. He is a great guy and is really easy to work with. He was very patient with us and kept checking back to make sure we were satisfied. The doors are great and we have Tim to thank for that. We would say that when it comes to hardware of any kind, but especially doors, Tim is the man. read more

Beware [seriously beware) the safety jackets & parkas (which are on a display rack, on hangers) in the store's clothing section near the cashiers & returns/customer service counter). These jackets/parkas are very poorly manufactured: zippers break within a day. Buyer beware. They look good but without working zippers they're worthless. read more

The most missed business for me in the Seattle area is the McLendon Stores. You could always find what you wanted and then some. Never disappointed in the variety and the stock levels in my neighborhood McLendon. I now live on the Oregon Coast which is very nice but nothing down here matches McLendons.Feel very lucky thgat you live in McLendon country. read more

This store is like the grandfather of all hardware stores. What I like about Mclendon hardware is that it has helpful and friendly services in each aisles and sections. My dad first heard of Mclendon about 2 years ago. We went there to buy a new trimmer for trimming my aunt's home. We also bought grass seed for our lawn, which had a fair price for 4 bags. I bought a flower there, which is on sale, for my mom for mother's day and she was delighted for the gift. We usually shop there for new parts such as tripper strings, toilet stoppers, metal hinges, and wood for fences and parts for the house. Most of the time, we bought nails, bolts and screws for doors and repair roofs and gutters which were misplaced or clogged due to heavy rain. But the store was far away from where I live. But my dad insisted on going there no matter what depending on the deals and sales at the store. The employees, who work there, are helpful and very resourceful, especially at the auto tool section. They were helpful for repairing broken down tools and replace new parts and advise which item they recommend the customers to buy for the missing parts. The garden section has a lot of flowers and sorts of soil for different purpose. The area was beautiful when it is sunny and you could see the colors of the flowers glissading towards the sun like the tulip field in eastern Washington. So, from what I see about Mclendon, it is the perfect place to shop hardware tools in Washington State. read more

Honestly the best hardware store customer service I've ever experienced, by a long-shot. It's the first time I've ever wanted to go grab a physical "customer satisfaction card" and fill it out (though, I didn't, so here I am). Super knowledgeable staff, not overly pushy but can always tell when you need some help, even if you haven't asked. I still occasionally go to the national chains (Lowes/Home Depot), but if I do that, I go in doing all my internet research first, because I know I'm not going to get much help. read more

Don't go here if you want your propane filled. We've tried to come here twice and have had bad experiences. First time, we bought a tank and full gas inside the store and the the cashier said to go outside to get it filled. We waited for ten mins , no one came, had to go back in and ask for someone to help us. The worker came out, was stern with us and said we had not run over a small black wire far enough (which we had no idea about). We just tried to fill out tank up again today, went in to pay, cashier said we needed to fill our tank first, went back out ran over black wire and waited for five-10 mins, no one came to help. We rang the door twice, no one came. Had to go back in the store ask for someone to help , they paged the whole store and no one still came to help us. No way we were going back in again to ask for help and then again to pay - four times going in and out reparking/getting the car is ridiculous. We left to get our propane tank filled at uhaul down the road. read more
