Got together with some friends we sat on the patio that had heaters, so it was nice and cozy. We order some Irish crips, toasted raviolis (beef) for the table. We had the grilled chicken salad, fish and chips and I had the chicken wings. Chicken wings were spicy but good, everyone said their salads were delicious and filling. The patio is massive and great place to get together. The bathroom has been remodeled and when you step in you feel like you are in a different restaurant. It has a chandelier (classy). Unfortunately no pictures I don't take my phone to the ladies room. Maybe next time cause there will be a next time. Until then see ya later read more

Had an incredible time. Service was impeccable. I was seated immediately and greeted by a lovely bartender named Harry. Food service was prompt and brought hot, delicious food. I would recommend the Southern Fried Chicken Tenders, they were life altering. Ambiance is incredible as well. Prepare to be immersed in Irish culture and cuisine. Old fashion Irish Pub established in 1978 with an old fashion brick and wood decor. Occasionally have Irish musicians. Open until 1:30 AM. Acclaimed one of the best bars in the country by Esquire. Very basic menu, but known for their burgers. Also have a patio. Have a great St. Patrick's day celebration with musicians and people dancing. I have ordered the Guinness Stew and the Beggars Purse for dessert. The Guinness Stew is beef stew in a bread bowl and was not too complex, but was pretty good. The Beggars Purse is chocolate inside of a fried dough layer with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce on top. It also has cherrys around it. It was very tasty, but I don't think it needed the cherries. read more

Rating this as a 5...reasons? Perfect place for the end of a day. We were tourists and had a very busy day in StL after a drive in from KC. We went into the bar and it was nearly empty, as we sitting down I made a comment to the waitress about not anyone here yet and asked if they might be busy. She said, "It's busier outside." What outside....the patio...with an 'of course' look. But we came in the front front door and had no inkling of a patio. Beautiful setting, there were open table but not when we left. Food was very good. I had the fish and chips, she had the stew. She commented that the stew tasted different than others she has had also in Irish pubs. But quickly told me it was really good. I like this place for a few reasons and it keeps me coming back for more. 1. traditional Irish grub that tastes amazing 2. affordable 3. good service 4. the vibe of the place 5. outdoor patio and seating 6. music I went off my norm here and opted for a pork chop since the wait over at Tuckers was 55 minutes and I had no patience for that. Lucky for my McGurks came to the resuce and delivered for me. Even on a busy night and oddly warm Dec 1 eveing was like almost 60 degrees making outdoor patio spots prime seats for many folks dining their this visit. I sat at the bar and was promptly served a menu and got my chop, lentils, and veggies in place of potatoes. 15 minutes or so later my meal was ready for me to dig in. This was a solid chop let me say that. Thoroughly enjoyed but this was just not quite the 20oz monster seasoned duroc pork chop I am used to from Tuckers. No one really stacks up to Tucks that I have found but.....McGurks claim to fame as I have seen it is in their other more traditional Irish pub grub which only they can do as well as they do. Their stab at pork chop entees is worthy of a try none the less. Service is good, venue is awesome and the patio is dope. Keeps me coming back again and again. Catch you next time! read more

McGurks is just a St Louis gem! My husband and I went out for a date night and McGurks did not disappoint. We were greeted and seated right away. I loved the little table we had in the bar area by the window. It felt secluded and cozy. Perfect distance from the band. I started off with a black and tan. I love Guinness, but it's always nice to mix it up and add Smithwicks. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I picked the corned beef and cabbage. The fish and chips were plentiful and the fish was perfectly flaky. My corned beef was perfection. Nice sized portion and seasoned just right. Our server was great. We took our time over dinner so we could enjoy the live music. I had to order my favorite drink at McGurks, their Irish Coffee. Hands down the best Irish Coffee in St Louis! I don't usually order dessert but the server temped me with their famous bread pudding. Sorry not sorry. It was a nice sized portion perfect for sharing! read more

After waiting in a long line in the cold, I was hit with a surprise $40 cash-only cover charge--on a Wednesday night at --with no ATM available. This is one of our favorite spots in St. Louis! The outdoor area is amazing- such a cute patio with plenty of greenery, it's the perfect place to hang out in small or big groups on a nice day! As for the food, we've always enjoyed what we've ordered, with our favorites being the southwest chicken salad and the Rueben sandwich. I do wish they had a little more variety to order in terms of beers, but I'm usually able to find something local to try out. The service here is usually decent, but on busy days we are used to not having our waiter/waitress stop by too often so we just make sure to order what we can when they stop by. read more

And I should know, I have been to pubs in Boston, NYC, D.C., Chicago, L.A., and I have been to Ireland twice; Galway, Dublin, Kilkenney. I'm an Irish musician and historian. And let me tell you something, McGurk's in St Louis is in the running with the best pubs of them all. I have rarely been at a loss for words when describing a place but let me just tell you an Irish pub should have great music (check!), a great bar (McGurk's has MANY yes I said multiple!), an Irish pub should have atmosphere (check!), it should be beautiful inside and out (check, check!), a fun crowd (check!), great drinks especially of course a pint of the Guinness (check!), friendly bartenders (check!), great food (check!), I can go on and on. You come here for the patio and that's it. The food is painfully mediocre, at best. Service is fine. Rather give up some ambience to spend the same amount on thoughtful food somewhere else. Got the pretzels which were tantamount to mall pretzels. Ten tiny bites for $10. Pretty steap. The $8 half caeser salad was a side salad that was about flavorless. The place has such a great inviting atmosphere with classic Irish menu items that you won't be able to resist. And every dish is good, every single one. Multiple bars and strong drinks make this place an STL necessity. The staff is excellent- always friendly and attentive. Also, the patio is one of the best patios in STL. I'm not kidding, it's gorgeous! Weekends get a little crazy with a younger crowd but don't let that stop you, live bands play all night. It's a fun time! First visit.. Was looking for some good fish and chips. Appetizer was pretzel with cheese, not great. It resembles nuggets of fried dough with a sprinkle of coarse salt, I wasn't sure it was a pretzel. It came with small plastic cup of cheese sauce that was okay. Bdubs has nice pretzel nuggets with beer cheese sauce, I would've rather skipped what we we brought. The fish resembled three small pieces that reminded me of stuffed spring rolls fried. I'm used to large filet fried in killer batter, but the batter was almost tasteless. It was okay, but not something I would return for. The homemade chips were very good, and the Reuben sandwich was excellent. The service was okay, the server was dedicated to a party table, so I don't feel we got a good experience with that. We don't snub her on the tip because she did do the minimal. I would definitely recommend a good sandwich and the crazy good chips, just not the fish and definitely not the pretzel bites. I wasn't going to return the fish because I was trying it. Should've returned the pretzel bites. Good atmosphere, great Reuben sandwich. If you are use to top notch great tasing battered fish, this won't come close. read more

McGurk's is one of my favorite restaurant in the city! It's a great Irish pub that has an amazing patio. I always get their Fish and Chips here because it's the best! The beer battered cod filets are so crispy and I have not found a place in St. Louis that does it better than them! I get it every time I come here. RUDE SERVER !! Never have I been treated so poorly as I was by the server McGurks yesterday. We got there late afternoon and it had been raining. The patio was pretty dead. We asked the bartender if we could sit at this table by the koi pond. And if we should order from the bar or if we would have a server. The bartender went and checked with the hostess and came back and told us we were fine to sit there and order from the bar. Over an HOUR later a blonde waitress came up to our table and told us that we had to move because we weren't ordering food or drinks from her and she had a table that was going to sit there. She had never once came up to us before then to offer any service. I told her that we would order from her we just didn't know we had a server. She told us she already had another group that was going to sit there and we needed to move. read more

Since I have only eaten once and it was inside, this review will be limited to this perspective. Food is pretty decent. I had the Reuben sandwich which as far as Reubens go, it was pretty good. My favorite was the homemade potato chips. Delicious! Others had the Irish Stew, served in a bread bowl and they reported it too to be pretty good. Overall experience was good. Nothing that particularly wowed me, nothing that offended my senses. If go back if that's where the group wants to go, don't know if I'd pick it for myself. Friends of mine highly recommended this place and it so happened we could hit it on a not-so-busy night. We went in, asked to sit outside, and then was directed through the dining area to the patio. The inside looked cool in passing and I will have to go another time to sit and take in the sites. The hostess at the patio entrance greeted us quickly and seated us quickly as well. Our waitress came over, dropped off menus and asked if we wanted any drinks. When my friend asked for a cocktail menu the waitress without saying a word, took the menu out of my friends hand, flipped it over and handed it back. Not the most friendly interaction. Soon, she appeared with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered and as she walked away I asked her name. I hate saying 'hey you' or something to that affect. She replied and headed over to another table. Our food did not take that long. It was good too! I got the stew in a bowl (trying to watch carbs), one friend got a Ruben while the other a side salad and wings. We all really liked what we got. The waitress did come back once during the meal to check on us. The sad part was waiting for her to bring the check. She was working a few other tables but never checked in. I finally had to speak her name loudly to get her attention. We eventually got our checks and since it took so long to get them we decided to pay cash. We could not wait for a credit card transaction. I really wanted to give this place 4 or 5 stars but the service killed it for me. It wasn't busy at all. She just didn't seem to be very interactive this evening. My friends were also very disappointed as they were excited to take me here. There so many restaurants out there these days that an experience like this would normally put me off from another repeat visit. Any time someone is in from out of town, we have a meal/night here. Love the easygoing local vibe. Food is always at least 9/10- my husband drools for their corned beef and cabbage. There are two things that set McGurk's apart from the other Irish Pubs in town. 1. The beautiful outdoor patio area. 2. The live music which usually features musicians from Ireland. As one of the most popular bars in the Soulard area, this place can get packed at peak times. I try to avoid the busy weekend crowds, but enjoy the more laid back weeknights.
