Chinook salmon
Jennifer S.

It was my first time here, as suggested by my brother for a birthday dinner - his treat. He was looking forward to the 'all you can eat' platter and offered several suggestions, but when I saw the Chinook salmon, my mind was made up. I included a cup of clam chowder and Bleu Cheese wedge salad to kick things off. He started with a shrimp cocktail. Bread was good, salad was good, chowder was good, but I wasn't really wowed by anything but the service. My salmon was mushy, veggies; sparse. Shrimp cocktail sauce, plain, though I've admittedly been spoiled with a zingy horseradish burn from other establishments. While the server was pleasant and plenty attentive, when asked if we saved room for desert, it was a definite no. Upsell training; a better tactic would be to show off their seasonal pumpkin tiramisu (a trick learned in my server days). Another missed opportunity; asking if we were celebrating any occasions. Prices were decent considering the menu. Overall a forgettable experience, but nice visit with family. A solid 3.5, if I'm being honest.

Seafood Sauté

Food was excellent! Server was nice and attentive. Love the ambiance of the entire restaurant. Would definitely go again!

Dining in was a better experience then takeout? Dining in at McGrath's the food was excellent and deserving of 5 stars***** but takeout should only be worth 3 stars*** because by the time we got home over a hour away the breading in my pan fried oysters had turned them soggy and the clam chowder at best lukewarm? I will stop again for dining in but no more takeout!

Hazelnut sole
Demetria R.

Nice cozy spot. Ordered the charbroiled oysters and was disappointed that it came with tartar sauce which was more like mayonnaise. I have never had oysters with a mayo based anything. Would have preferred cocktail sauce if they had no other sauce. The sole was ok a bit mushy with the "hazelnut" crust. The margaritas was strong but I've had stronger. Overall 3 stars was sufficient.

We decided to try this place last minute and while we had a decent experience it's not somewhere I'd visit again. The service was excellent despite having a new server undergoing training and the restaurant itself was quite large and decorated with various ocean themed decor. We started off with a few appetizers including the ahi poke and crab stuffed mushrooms and everyone agreed that this was the best part of the meal. For our entrees, most of us we're not in love with what we revived. The steak was extremely over cooked and the salmon was dry. However the side garden salad was great and the Mac n cheese was way better than we were expecting.

Burned "seared" ahi in the dish Seared Ahi*

We used to have a McGrath's where we live and loved their food. We were happy to see a McGrath's on visiting Salem. I ordered a seared ahi bowl. The ahi was presented completely black on the outside and tasting burned and charred although it was cold and raw on the inside (the raw interior was expected for seared ahi). The burned flavor was so strong I had to spit out the bite of fish which was embarrassing to me. I let the waitress know. She apologized. The manager came out and was rude. She said it wasn't burned, that was the breading on the ahi. I told her I know a burned flavor when I taste it and showed her I'd spit the fish out on my napkin. She insisted it was fine. (I've never run into seared ahi prepared breaded, anywhere, by the way.) My husband's dinner of rockfish was cooked properly but had little flavor beyond the smoky flavor from the wood grill. We will not come back here.

Parmesan halibut was overcooked. Dry. Sadly this dish was $36 and was definitely not worth it.

Canned milk tea, mochi, instant ramen, Pocky sticks... they've got them all! When we came, there was a big swarm around the seafood area. Most people come here for the fresh seafood: fish, live shrimp, crab, etc. That is one of popular reasons that people would endure such a tiny little grocery store like this. Not only that, there was a long line for the cashier checkout area. It's not very organized either. Although they have two aisles marked with blue tape, many people just cut other customers or go infront of eachother! Not very organized and the staff didn't care too much to organize the lines either. They also have a sushi boba shop connected to the building, but it seems to be closed due to COVID. Overall, I would give them 3.5 stars if I could. I'll round it up to 4 since I got my milk tea fix and a couple unique asian snacks.

TL;DR: Five stars simply isn't enough. I don't know that 10 stars or even 20 stars would be enough…read moreeither. I cannot believe I haven't done a review for here yet. AristaCrab has become the standard I hold all crab plates to. I am born and raised Oregonian, spending most of my summers and winters on the coast. I am very familiar with crab and yet, it took my twenty-four years to find the best crab of my life. Nothing compares to the freshness, the flavor, and most importantly, the AMAZING staff here. I wish I could give just the staff alone twenty stars. They are so friendly, kind, and informative. I usually get some combination of 1-2 crab clusters, corn, and potatoes, whereas my friends will get the same plus egg and sausage. There are different butters you can pick from and I usually get the garlic butter. Every. Single. Item. Is. Amazing. The crab is warm and delicious. The legs are easy to crack and get those giant pieces you dream of, which then you dip into the pool of melted garlic butter, and enter a dreamy food haze of amazingness. The corn and potatoes sit in happy puddle of garlic butter, adding flavor the longer you wait to eat them. The corn is perfectly seasoned and cooked to the point that it's easy to eat off the cob but still firm. The potatoes literally melt in your mouth. Man I was there just last night and I'm sad I'm not eating there right now. It is more expensive but quality, quantity, and experience are so damn worth it.

Two of us shared the Original with two crab clusters. Flavor was pretty perfect ("Original" which…read moreis Old Bay) a little less than normal but he added garlic. So good! Complaints: potatoes were not cooked enough which was a bummer. Finally, be sure to bring your own cracker and picker. They do have a disposable "slicer" but it didn't work well for me.

We reserved on Tock, and it was mostly full on a Friday night. Drinks: lots of local beers are available, but I went with the Pineapple Express: she warned it was spicy, and it indeed was (in a really good way). All of the food is done family style: - Clams Galicia: with tomato, chorizo, bacon broth. This broth as amazing. I literally drank it with a spoon - Pan con tomate: slightly different from classic preparation - more flavorful and heavier on the toppings - Salmorejo: tomato and bread puree, Serrano, jammy egg - like a creamy gazpacho - Grilled asparagus: with whipped ricotta and a cured egg yolk - Squid ink pasta: with hazelnuts, caramelized onions, peppers, and a runny egg yolk, a bit spicy. This dish was my favorite - Honey brined pork chop with a basque piperade sauce The servers were all great about checking in. I would definitely recommend the squid ink pasta and the clams if you're in town!
