I've been bringing my Honda Civic to this dealership for service for as long as I can remember, and Bryan Diete in the Service Center is a huge reason I continue to come back. Bryan has helped me numerous times over the years and consistently goes above and beyond. Most recently, I had to bring my car in after an accident and go through the insurance process, which was obviously a stressful situation. Bryan made the entire process so much easier. He coordinated directly with my insurance company, recommended a great towing company, kept me informed throughout the process, and made sure my car was taken care of and repaired properly. They also provided me with a loaner, so I wasn't left without a car while everything was being handled. What could have been a really frustrating and stressful experience was made so much easier because of Bryan and the entire Honda Service Team. Bryan is knowledgeable, responsive, trustworthy, and genuinely cares about his customers. I always feel like I'm in good hands when I bring my car in. 1-Star Review - Very Disappointing Experience I drove about an hour to this Honda dealership because, before making the trip, I specifically asked them to provide me with the out-the-door price so we could hopefully come to an agreement before I made the drive. I was given a price around $32,900, and I was prepared to negotiate $900 for a used car. The service was great in the beginning, but unfortunately, once we started discussing the actual numbers, the experience changed completely. First, I was given a different price based on a different ZIP code, even though no one had asked me what ZIP code I lived in. That was frustrating because I specifically requested an accurate out-the-door price before driving an hour. For the used vehicle I wanted, the out-the-door price was around $33,200 after they entered my actual ZIP code in Cook County. I initially offered $32,000, then increased my offer to $32,500. At that point, we were only about $600 apart, and I felt that was a reasonable difference to try to work out. During the negotiations, the salesperson, last name: York, repeatedly brought up things such as politics, Cook County, and where I lived, including comments about living somewhere else to potentially pay lower taxes. I personally found those comments unnecessary and disrespectful during a car negotiation. We also discussed looking at another vehicle as a way to potentially make the numbers work, which I was completely open to. I was told an agreed amount on another vehicle, and after I signed off on that amount, I was later told they could not actually honor that price. That was especially disappointing because, in my opinion, if a dealership gives you a number and you agree to it, the expectation is that they stand behind what they told you. My dad was also willing to trade in his Infiniti Q50 toward the purchase. The vehicle has some issues, which we were completely upfront about, but they offered him only $200 for the trade-in. We understand it isn't in perfect condition, but that offer felt extremely low considering that even the engine alone can cost several thousand dollars. We eventually went back to the original used vehicle. We were still only about $600 apart, yet after all the back-and-forth, they only reduced the price by approximately $93. I was then offered another $300 off, but we were still not able to reach the number we had been discussing. I understand dealerships have to make money, and I wasn't expecting the vehicle for free. I simply expected more flexibility and, most importantly, consistency and honesty throughout the negotiation. I drove an hour because I was serious about buying the vehicle, and I had $25,000 ready for a down payment, leaving only around $7,000 to finance. Unfortunately, after the experience with the pricing, the changing numbers, the trade-in offer, and the comments during the negotiation, I decided not to purchase the vehicle. I personally would not recommend this dealership based on my experience. The initial customer service was good, but once it came time to negotiate the price, my experience was very different. For me, the issue wasn't simply the $600 difference--it was the feeling that the numbers and agreements kept changing and that my time wasn't respected after I had driven an hour to get there. read more

This dealership is a **BS place--stay away!** I paid cash for a vehicle and was charged **$635 for handling the paperwork and getting the title to me**. It has now been **two months, and I still have not received my title**. What makes this even more frustrating is the complete lack of communication. Before I bought the car, they responded quickly, answered all my questions, and were very helpful. Once the transaction was completed, it felt like I no longer existed. I've called multiple times and left messages, but I haven't received any response. I understand that paperwork can sometimes take time, but **two months with no title and no communication is unacceptable**, especially after paying $635 for the service. To say they are bumbling fools is putting it mildly. They never answer their phone when you follow up for service. They lost my car when I took it in for foglights and door molding. They lie about replacing parts or doing the work. I bought a 2019 Honda Pilot and nothing but recall after recall. I had to wait a year to have my fuel pump replaced. Timing belt recall as they used inferior belts, hood latch recall, fuel injector recall, failed brakes and spring when I first bought it. I had to purchase a vcm tuner to keep the engine from failing. I went to Japan and actually spoke to a Toyota executive and explained the lack of quality in the cars made here for Honda and Toyota and he said they are aware. Due your due diligence. Id stay away from Honda, unless it was made in Japan. Read the reviews of this dealership. Trust them. read more

They said the car was still available, and that I could move my appointment from 3PM to 10:30 AM. When I arrived, the sales rep said that unfortunately the car had been sold. I rated one star because my dealer was nice and friendly. But I think they should review their protocol about getting customers' driver license even though I don't need a test driver and customers' SSN even before talking about the price simply saying we need to key into our system, which totally made no sense at all and I have never bumped into any situation in other dealership. The other guy came and questioned why I don't want to give them SSN in a condescending manner and asked if I have anything wrong with my credit even after I told them I have credit score above 750. No customer should be treated in a such irrespecutful manner. Also, be aware of the finance team, he came and told me my original interest rate would be 12% because I built my credit simply by credit card, but since I am a graduate they offer me 7% interest with a premier insurance at the same monthly payment. He never mentioned the 12% interest rate again after going to his office because he knew there are camera, just kept repeating what premier insurance could cover, I was tricked by that but thankfully it could be cancelled within 30 days. Very troublesome service experience. Miscommunication abounds -- no contact within days, and I had to initiate, asking "Any updates?". Be aware that when they say, "diagnostic goes towards repair(s)", it does not mean any repair in the diagnostic -- only the one(s) they say. I admit I had forgotten since it was a year since I had been here, but I feel like it's not the customer's responsibility to memorize the policy but for a business to be transparent. Even worse, they did a repair that I never finally approved. I said I "might" use the diagnostic fee toward a second repair, thinking that the diagnostic charge could be applied, but they never corrected my misunderstanding but went ahead anyways; they did the repair without confirmation and without telling me the fee would not be applied until AFTER they did the repair. Extremely disappointing. I spoke to the service manager at length, and they just repeated the policy, without addressing the concerns I raised (lack of communication, not waiting for final approval, not clarifying the policy when I was clearly trying to use the diagnostic). You'd think that if they would try to help customers more. I highly doubt I will ever return here. Very troublesome. read more

Very disappointed in the customer service, not sure if Honda Certified means anything. Purchased a used Honda CR-V with 25000 miles. I have a problem with the tires but I can't seem to get Aldo M. (The sales manager) on the phone to take care of it. I'm told the Honda Certified Inspection said the tires were okay. But their own service department has told me due to serious cupping of the tire(wear from bad alignment) the only way to solve the problem is to replace them. According to my salesperson two new tires were installed but all tires measure out to 4/32 of tread which is a little more then half life. I guess they got their money so return customers are not a priority. Pretty sad. read more

If you have a choice I would not go to McGrath Honda in St Charles. Long story short, we had a 2016 Civic and the AC is junk. They had fixed 2 prior issues under warranty and no problem. This time they stated that the recall had ended and the part that was broken was not part of the recall. But they were not sure unless I $500 for the exact diagnosis. Here is the part that got me. Honda needs a certified Honda service report to determine if it is covered or not. McGrath wanted $500 to put that information on the report. They told me it was $4000 to repair the issue. But they were not positive exactly what the issue was until they take the dash apart and inspect it. Just pay the $500 and it will be part of the $4000. They have the gall to tell me i could not drive the car in the winter at all with the AC broken. I took the car to the Honda dealership in Schaumburg. It was on $250 which is still crazy but honda requires this so i did it. I was told Honda might do something but took 3 weeks just to say sorry. This is what i figured but was hopeful. My husband has been searching for a Civic Type R for a better part of a year. For those who know this car, this is a rare, limited edition vehicle that usually sells really quickly and way over sticker price. He has been back and forth on the purchase and did not want to pull the trigger. When he was about to pull the trigger, the car that he was looking at was gone. When he was doing his recent search, he found that there was a red civic type r at the Mcgrath Honda of St. Charles. We had a free afternoon so we made the 30 minute drive to see what the car was like. Our family never had a red car and when I heard about it, I was a little hesitant, but when I saw the car, I instantly fell in love. So did my 2 year old daughter. She kept going back to the car wanting to sit in it. Jose and Alberto were helping us during the entire process and I cannot recommend them enough. If you are a parent to a toddler, you know that they can be disruptive and they were both very patient and understanding. The dealership even has a kids playroom in the back with a train set and books that my daughter really enjoyed. The entire experience was 5 stars. We never felt pushed or judged. All positive interactions. I haven't been to a dealership that does this, but they ring a bell every time a car is bought and everyone in the dealership cheers. What a happy celebratory moment. It's truly disappointing to report that this dealer appears to have taken advantage of a disabled individual. They assured him the van was thoroughly serviced and inspected. However, just three days after the purchase, an inspection revealed that the vehicle urgently requires a complete replacement of both front and rear brakes. This experience has left us incredibly disappointed, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this dealership, seemingly led by Peter Mattison, to anyone. This review is specifically for the service department from my most recent interaction. Unfortunately had to follow up and readjust my rating due to lack of communication and transparency. Went in on 8/18/25 due to a nail in my tire. The car was ready on 8/21/25. After a couple weeks I noticed there were some scratches on the inner lip of my wheel with the flat that had been replaced. I took some pictures of the damage and sent it to my advisor, Kevin Reynoso on Tuesday 9/2/25 to review. I was told then on Wednesday 9/3/25 that footage would be reviewed and I'd have an answer by Thursday 9/4/25. I did not get any communication. I reached out on Friday 9/5/25 only to get an automated out of office answer. I received a follow up back from Kevin on Monday 9/8/25 saying I'd have an answer by the following day. I did get receive a response via text on Tuesday 9/9/25, but only saying that my request was denied and that a discount could be applied for fixing the wheel. I immediately called Kevin and requested to speak to his manager, CJ Nemec. He was unavailable, but I was assured he would contact me by the time he was leaving that evening. 7 PM rolls by and nada. Zilch. I reach out again the next day via phone on Wednesday 9/10/25 and hear that CJ is off for the day so I speak with TJ, another service manager and he said he'd have CJ reach out to me the next day on 9/11/25. It's now Friday 9/12/25 and it is still radio silence. This is just flat out poor customer communication! I have zero issues with the claim being denied if the damage was present prior to me dropping off my car for service, but if you have the technology to have footage to review share it with the client to alleviate any doubts! read more

I got my car brand new from Big Mac and although it took some persuading - I got a fair deal and have been saving a lottttt of money since switching to the Honda fam. This location offers 2 complimentary oil changes if you purchase a brand new vehicle. Erin was who took care of me when I got my first oil change. She is so friendly and kind and seriously.. working on a Saturday with a positive attitude and a smile on her face? GIVE HIS GIRL A FAT RAISE AND BONUS! She was transparent about wait times and showed me around since I decided to wait. The waiting area is huge with lots of places to sit, watch tv and just hang out. They Broke a Part During Repair & Returned My Car With an Airbag Light On I brought my 2019 Honda HR-V to McGrath Honda of St. Charles for a fuel pump recall and a Service A oil change. After their inspection, they recommended additional repairs/services, but I only approved the gasket for the spool valve and drive belt replacements. Later, I received a voicemail from Tam stating that "during the normal process of removing the drive belt, the tensioner broke on us." This happened while they were working on my car, yet they told me I needed to pay an extra $522 for the replacement -- even though I'd never had any tensioner issues before. I then received another voicemail from Tam saying they noticed warning lights on the dash while working on the car. Three hours later, he called and explained: the vehicle was in accessory mode when he first wrote me up and they performed a deep battery charge, the battery and alternator were healthy, they test drove the car, and the only light that kept coming back was the SRS/airbag light, relating to seatbelts or airbags. He also made it clear that none of the services I approved "would cause that" and that if I wanted to know why the airbag light was now on, I would have to pay for a diagnostic. After that call, I went to pick up my car -- and sure enough, the airbag/SRS light was on. This light was NOT on when I dropped off my vehicle. In total, I paid about $1,300, and my vehicle was returned to me with an airbag warning light -- a serious safety issue. A part broke during their repair, and I was charged for it, and now I am left with a new problem that wasn't there before. This was an extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience. I will not be returning to this dealership, and I hope sharing my experience helps others avoid similar issues. read more

Took our car to McGrath (2022 Honda CR-V) for battery issues. They didn't let us know that the car was ready. I got there and the person handed me the wrong person's keys and couldn't find mine. Fast forward to today and the last several days, the car is NOT starting again and had to get a jump twice. They didn't do a good job the first time around and now the car won't start and we have to get to doctor's appointments, etc. I would suggest taking your car somewhere else. I chose to buy this car for the Honda reputation. My intention was to invest in an expensive, new car but keep it for a long time. I regret my choice. At McGrath the sales man used very high pressure tactics claiming the deal "was only good for today" False--and bad business. When I went to the finance room the Honda employee made 2 expensive errors, first in the price then in the math. Luckily I read thoroughly and caught both--he claimed he had allergies and the meds made him foggy. Questionable--and poor judgment. I took my Pilot for regular service at the dealership because I wanted the most up to date knowledge on upkeep and the best service, despite the higher price. Come to find there is a known problem with the 2017-2024 Honda Pilot torque converter which can be mitigated by changing transmission fluid every 15000 miles. I reported symptoms of this issue before the expiration of my extended warranty and the service department said they found nothing wrong. If I had done my own research I could have found the source of the transmission shudder. But instead I had my transmission fluids changed at 75000 miles with McGrath Honda and went on my way. I began using a private service tech after I had another (unrelated to transmission, related to a recall notice on the fuel pump) issue with Honda service. When McGrath arranged to give me a loaner vehicle and I sent a copy of my insurance ahead of time they did not bother to check. When I arrived for the service it is then that they tell me they don't accept my insurance company and I found myself stranded with no car for 3 days and no ride. Now at 115000 miles I need a whole new transmission installed and it will cost $5-$6000!!!! And McGrath Honda says there's nothing they can do. read more

When buying a used car be very careful when being sold the extras by the Business Manager. Get everything the Business Manager promises in writing. Paid $3k for an extended service contract and was told that maintenance at any McGrath Dealership was covered for the duration of the contract. Turns out that wasn't true. The $150 to $200 per year for routine maintenance isn't the end of the world, but the Business Manager did say I wouldn't need to worry about that, a big reason for buying the contract in the first place. I had my faulty audio unit display replaced with brand new one. However after I picked it up and was driving home, I noticed scratch mark on the left corner screen by knobs. I went back to show it to the service advisor and he was not surprised nor really apologizing for their mistakes but told me they will need to order new unit. Again it took 4.5 hours to complete the work and I am glad I did not wait for it and asked for a loaner. Then in 2 days I got a called that new unit is ready to be installed. I called back the same service advisor 3 times and never got a confirmation for time to bring in my car so I just went and dropped it off. And he was there but gave another advisor the job and moved on. Again totally not professional or friendliness of the advisor. He needs to learn to work on customer service skills. Also this is like my 2nd time getting work done on my car, and their mechanic or people working made mistakes or created more issues. They did not tell me that my lease did not qualify for the credit and that the DEALERSHIP would receive it. Had my truck serviced here a week ago. Fantastic service and everyone was definitely on game point. Reason for the two stars is for three people I tried contacting after I returned the loaner vehicle they will lend you. I left my garage door opener inside the car and tried contacting two days later. Left voicemails on all three personnel especially the one that help me David. No call back no response. It's been a week later still nothing. So if your good not leaving anything behind or don't need to contact them after servicing your vehicle you should be ok. This was my first time visiting and having purchased a vehicle from McGrath Honda @ St Charles. Great experience working with the Sales Specialist: David Kolodziej. David was knowledgeable in the cars, and shared the pros and cons, and asked us questions to clarify if a hybrid would be benefiting us which depends on the type of driving and traveling we often do. He was careful not to over sell and under deliver. David's approach and friendly demeanor made this purchase as smooth as possible. (As many know, purchasing a car is almost a full day process). The reason we tried this location first was because they had an advertised discount on the CRV. Often times, it is bait. However, David was honoring the discount as long as we showed the internet ad. Reninder: this type of discount was rare (after COVID's mark up). If you're interested in a Honda, I highly recommend you going to this Honda location. Ask for David Kolodziej. He is knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. David was calm and happy to answer as many questions you might have coming to mind. I am going back soon for some added upgrades. 3 and a half hours we drove to get here. Quoted us a price out the door over the phone Monday. The price of the car was lowered by 600$ online during the week. Get there this morning. They knew our quote. They knew we were driving 3.5 hours. Sorry, that quote was off by 560$ So even though the car price went down 600$... they wouldn't honor the quote and added as much TO the quote as the price decreased online. Quoted 32,000 out the door. Price went down 600 after that. Drive 3.5 hours and they try to get 32,600 out of us. Nope No way. We don't play that game. Don't go here. Night and Day difference. Ever since they moved to the new location it seems they've hired the worst of the worst. Most times with any business you'll scan through the negative reviews and you can just tell who's bitter about something minute or is holding an unnecessary grudge but I've gotta tell you there's not a single negative review I've read that I don't believe. The original McGrath St. Charles was fantastic to visit, we serviced our Accord there and was really happy for years so happy that when they opened a new location we decided to just continue going and in a nutshell, they became the dreaded long wait oh we found this gigantic repair needed outta the blue dealership with pimps for the salesman. The last straw was buying a new Passport. Walked in within seconds and saw the showroom HPD model wife wanted to work out the price and told the guy we'd write a check for the agreed on price that's when I nearly went to jail. Lied about the undercoating, and had to tell the glue-sniffing finance guy 56789,65222k F'n times I'm not interested in what he's selling take the#^@! Money or we'll just go someplace else, I'm serious when I tell you that had not my wife been there I'd be doing laundry in a state prison smiling all the while. Out of nothing more than time we took the new car back for scheduled oil changes that were free up to the 30k mile mark or something like that anyways it never changed horrible service long wait times everybody in the service area looking like they wanted to drink antifreeze to end their misery and you can pick out exactly in the room who's going to have the service tech visit them and tell them they need new rocket booster shims or their Civic will explode but good news is they are in stock on sale just for them 1800 bucks each or some scam garbage. It's like overnight soon as they built that giant turd of a dealership they fired everybody with a soul and decided that they needed to just run a sleaze bag operation to pay the enormous building fees or something but either way, don't visit these guys you'll drive outta there needing a foam pad to sit on from your boom boom getting pounded some way or another. We have since given our new car business and maintenance over to Valley Honda which isn't that much further and is reminiscent of the old McGrath without pimps and friendly honest vehicle sales and service. read more
