The female manager on duty told me to wait because she was too busy taking to her male friend at the counter. After several minutes later she finally gave the code. Somehow almost everytime I come they always get my order wrong. Sometimes I ask for a chicken sandwich with no lettuce. And I get extra lettuce. Or extra mayo. Also I get cold fries, please no cold fries they're the worst I just throw it away.. But please don't ever mess with my coke. This location on Pu'unene Ave. is usually my go-to McDonald's. Most of the time, I stop by here on my way to work in the mornings usually for a frappe or a sausage McGriddle. I don't know what the heck they put in the sausage McGriddle, but I swear, it's like crack. With it's sweet, chewy buns, and salty sausage, how can you go wrong? It's always perfect and one is surprisingly enough to hold me over until lunch time. On my last visit a few days ago, I saw they were offering the sausage mcgriddle + hash brown combo for $3.50. Such a good deal! I usually also get hot cakes with sausage; same thing I've pretty much been getting since I was a child and I still love it! I was full from the McGriddle and actually ate this for lunch. Popped it in the microwave for a bit to heat it up and it was good as new. Still the same taste I remember. They've renovated recently, but I honestly can't remember the last time I've stepped foot into the establishment! The food and service here are about what you'd expect of any McDonald's nowadays. "Meh" food and service that reflects workers who aren't paid well and aren't engaged with their work. No surprises here. Just giving a heads up to those who haven't been here recently...there are a lot of homeless people living right next to the parking lot. Many of them appear to be on drugs and others appear to suffer from mental illness. It is not uncommon to be approached for money and/or hear people screaming loud profanities at the staff or patrons. I have witnessed individuals destroying displays on the counter and threatening the staff...creating scenes. I was approached while eating a meal and screamed at in my face and called any number of expletives. As there was no security, I had my pocketknife ready in my hand should the individual decide to get physical with me (I had no idea what he was prepared to do; I did nothing to provoke him). I've been at the Post Office across the street and have heard folks living outside in the grass out front screaming profanities at the top of their lungs. This seems to be particularly common during breakfast hours for some reason. I've got nothing against these people personally, but if situations like the ones I described aren't something you want to deal with when you go out to purchase a meal, I'd suggest to use the drive thru or visit another location if you plan to dine in...possibly Dairy Rd or one of the ones in the Wailuku area. read more

Hubbs and I used the drive through to order 2 burgers and 2 drinks and they still managed to get the order wrong and we ended up with 3 drinks so they refunded us for one. We drove away without checking our food order (yes, naive!) and when we parked in shade down the street to eat it we opened the boxes and I swear both burgers had been sat on!! Squashed, leaning to one side, all the sauce squeezed out one side of the filet of fish which made it hard to eat. Chips were stone cold too. I had not been inside the Pu'unene McDonalds since their renovation. I was pleasantly surprised how different it looks and how their operation is now. As soon as you enter there are four touch screen order windows that you can self order. I thought those were really cool. On these screens there were easy options that even had info on coupons and deals. I tried one out today with their $2.50 bundle for hashbrowns and it was great. Order time during the morning was was actually pretty quick. Took around 10 min maximum from ordering to receiving. My food was hot and they clearly called my order number. Overall, pretty solid McDonalds. I also noticed that they deliver too, so might be an option in the future. read more

This is my to go to place for breakfast and sometime lunch. Breakfast is consistent. The egg McMuffin and coffee are staples in our household. Although they are occasionally short handed, it is common to see the owner working the counter, kitchen, or drive thru. If there are newer employees, they quickly step in to show them how to handle the cash register. Since their remodeling, they now have incorporated mobile and kiosk ordering and are more high tech than other restaurants. Check the mobile app for deals and to schedule curbside delivery. read more

I know it's weird to review McDonald's but I felt like I needed to review a Hawaiian McDonald's. I tried the McTeri and taro pie which are only available in Hawaii. The McTeri tasted just like McDonald's Japan's teriyaki burger which was nostalgic for me. The teriyaki sauce is slightly sweet but I loved it. Super messy to eat so have a sink or wet wipes ready! I didn't expect much from the taro pie as I where'd the haupia pie but they were out. It was surprisingly really good - crispy and perfect texture / level of sweetness. SERVICE: The staff are friendly, but drive-thru service time is longer than ever, thanks in part to the new dual ordering system. Okay - it's McDonald's. I'm not a huge fan. It is what it is... and we have kids so here we are. It's quick, easy and reliable. We can generally find something on the menu that we won't feel hugely guilty about if we only eat half. There, I've provided all my rationale for why we end up here time and again in different cities. That said...this is by far the cleanest, most well organized McDonald's I've ever been in. Yay. One day I started asking myself, how many nuggets do I think I can eat? I imagined the ceiling was somewhere around 50. So I really started fixating on this, I wondered who would be a worthy challenger in a nugget eating contest. I perused the schedule to see who was working. That's when I landed on a name, yes, that would be a true challenger. After polling some coworkers they believed my opponent, who was a full foot taller than me would win purely based on size. Let me be clear, I am a man of strong principles. I refused to accept defeat purely on principle. I was determined to destroy my opponent. We get to talking about how many we think we can eat. I proposed 60 nuggets per person, he exclaimed that we should do 80 in case we both reach 60 and it's a tie. So we settle on 80 nuggets each. As I pulled up to the drivethru I had to repeat my order no less than 6 times to at least 3 separate people. They all could not believe that one man in his car by himself would be ordering 160 nuggets. It did not compute, and really highlighted their commitment to accurate orders. As I pulled up to the window I again had to clarify my order no less than 5 times to two people. For such a large order they cranked those bad boys out with surprising speed and provided a vast range of sauces. So big ups to McDonalds, you guys killed it. Now this is normally where I'd wrap this up. But, I know you're all eagerly awaiting the results of the competition. Early on I established a strong lead, quickly devouring nuggets while maintaining strong eye contact with my opponent as I talked more trash than Jordan did in his prime. As the contest continued I struggled to maintain my 8 nugget lead. But my opponent slowed down. After nugget 33 we entered a state of nugget psychosis. I laughed to the point of tear several times. Everything was hysterical. As he slowed I continued to do my best to maintain a consistent pace, because I knew once I slowed there would be no forward progress. All told I was victorious with a 61-53 triumph. 10/10 will return. read more

Like any other McDonalds. They went through modernization of their whole store like every other McDonalds in Hawaii. The two-lane drive thru can get backed up at times, but it goes by pretty fast. If you come in from the front entrance, it is two lanes, but one way so if you enter from the back you must go around to get to the closer parking stalls. There is ample amount of parking but it does fill up since this is the central McDonalds to Kahului town. read more

What can I say, it's a McDonald's franchise. It's fast food. But it's affordable, tasty fast food that I can count on to be consistent and meet my expectations no matter where I go. The Filet-O-Fish, McChicken and regular cheeseburger are my go-to items at McDonald's. I also enjoy their french fries. Customer service is okay. Items in my orders are forgotten regularly, so just be sure to check that before driving off. It's a busy location that is open 24/7, but surprisingly, there is virtually no wait if you use one of the two drive-thru lanes or the pickup service through your phone app. You can get great deals if you use the phone app (there are a lot of buy one, get one free deals, $3 off an order of $10 or more, etc.). All you have to do to use the pickup service is order on your phone app, pay through the app, and park in one of the designated pickup stalls. After you tell the app that you have arrived, someone will be notified to bring your order out to you and hand it directly to you while you sit in your car in the parking lot. No walk-in, no drive-thru... easy peasy! read more

How awesome is this? I'm the first person to review the McDonald's in Kahului, Maui. My family moved to Maui in 1968 and I remember hamburgers being 25 cents when Maui basically had two fast food restaurants on the whole island . . . McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Thank you McDonald's for all those years of happiness . . . from seeing me transition from hamburgers to cheeseburgers and even growing up to big kid level with my first Big Mac. Double Entry should only be reserved for certain occasion - the drive thru at Puunene McDonald's is not one of them. It is quite the cluster F as you can imagine. However, if you manage to not catch them during rush hour, they are consistent about fast and hot food. I should also tell you that if you MUST go to McDonald's to satisfy a very poor craving, try going to the one in Kihei instead, as this particular McD's is actually 10% more expensive. I should also add a bonus .25 stars for the Taro Pie though. mmmm mmmm read more

We pulled into the drive thru late, just arriving to Maui after a loooongg flight and he was insistent that we get something to eat before hitting the road to Kapalua. Poop on him. Whatever you do, don't eat at McDonald's in Kahului on Puunene Avenue, unsanitary conditions and the homeless are able to get free drinks while we pay for ours. I will not eat at this McDonald's restaurant ever again because of their unsanitary conditions. I get it when they are business and they were however that's not an excuse to not keep up with cleaning their dining room. They should have enough workers that there is one assigned to keep the restaurant clean. What was detesting is to see at 7 to 8 homeless people sneak through the side door to fill their dirty used McDonald cups, used bottles and containers without paying. They were dirty, coughing, and with sores. Also, one homeless person kept helping this older woman employee to put ice in the soda dispenser and he was dirty and had a dirty bandage wrapped around one of his feet. I mean really. Of course this is an older woman who has to stand on a footstool but had to still reach up and struggled to dump the bucket of ice in the dispenser. Yes, I know this person was being a gentleman but please where was the manager and a younger employee that could help or do the job. I was thinking about refilling my drink but decided not to because of the unsanitary conditions. I finally stood went to speak with the manager, and it took awhile for a manager to come up to the front so that I could make my complaint. She was to busy to hear me or take my complaint seriously. She thought I was a joke. The manager did nothing except tell the old woman employee to clean up the soda dispenser. And, the homeless kept coming in refilling their dirty containers. I asked for the owner's phone # to call and make a complaint about her manager and the unsanitary conditions because at this point I was about to call the Board of Health to file a complaint but wanted to make my complaint to the owner. However, they couldn't give me their ph#. So, I just told them that's alright I will file a complaint with the Board of Health and you let the owner know that. And I filed my complaint. I will also let my family and friends know do not eat at the Kahului McDonald's on Puunene Avenue. read more
