We are tourists and stopped by for some poke at Big Save, then went to McDonalds for the kids food. The manager came out and yelled at us including the kids in front of the whole store for bringing in outside food. To be honest, I didn't see the sign, but there was no need to be so rude about it. A simple and polite request would have been sufficient. It seems they don't really like tourists and just want to make sure the regular customers are happy. Definitely no aloha from Roxeanne the manager. The staff was not very friendly and the manager Roxeanne was definitely not friendly. If you are a tourist, I'd avoid it. Five stars. The food here is always good for a fast food joint. Breakfast is always a winner. The service is good, but they need to shore up missed items and ensuring their ice cream machine is operational. The ambiance is always good stuff at McDonald's. Ordered just a McFlurry and made to wait around 20 minutes just for them to give me a small cup of ice cream. When I asked they told me the machine didn't work, which is fine, but I wish I had been told before I had waited so long and I didn't want to pay $5 for basically what was a $1 cone. She just told me that's what I paid for and wouldn't accommodate. So I just asked for a refund since it wasn't what I wanted and wasn't informed of the machine for the entire time I had been waiting there. They were pretty rude about it and I could tell other customers were irritated too. I was just embarrassed so I took my refund and left. All the hand sanitizers were out and they keep the door locked to the bathrooms and have an absolute attitude problem when you ask them to open it. All I wanted my kids to do was wash their hands before they ate. Do not go to this McDonald's. They will not let you use the restroom even if you buy something. They have a sign by the door that says restroom out of order which is not truly out of order. They allow some select people to use the restroom if they like you. If you ask about the restroom they will yell at you and say "can't you read"! "Are you blind"? Uhm yes ma'm. I am partially blind. Over this spring for maybe two months, they were just "out" of orange juice. For both the shamrock shack month and the Grimace special era, they were out of ice cream for shakes by 4 pm...seriously??? I grew up with this McDonald's consistently screwing up everyone's orders. It's actually become a part of their reputation. Since this is the only fast food establishment for us westside locals, we still go with awareness and know to check our bags before leaving the drive-thru and/or restaurant. Two days ago I ordered the bacon clubhouse burger. I said burger twice. Yes, the meal, I told the guy on the other end. I got the crispy chicken version and no fries. Today, I ordered the burger meal again. I asked the worker if she got BURGER. She said yes. I asked her to repeat my order, she said burger. When I got home, I took the sandwich box out of my bag. Sure enough, it said burger on the label. I opened the box, and guess what? Instead of crispy chicken, I got NO BURGER. As in, there was no meat in my sandwich. Generally I'd get pissed and drive back. Since I have 3 sick children and we live 10 mins away, I tried calling McDonald's first to make a complaint and see if they can take my name so I can get my real burger another time. I tried calling over and over for the past half an hour, and the phone just keeps ringing until MY phone tells me to hang up. Nobody answered, not once. I don't normally write bad reviews or even post rants about anything, but today's incident was ridiculous. I feel like it was April fool's day. And since nobody seems to care to answer the phone there, I decided to make this public service announcement and tell all you readers that now you have to literally open your sandwich to make sure that Eleele McDonald's is giving you what you paid for. I don't review fast food restaurants because you should know what to expect if you're going to a McDonald's as far as food is concerned, but here's a heads up/service review for anyone trying to go to this McDonald's after 10PM. This is THE ONLY PLACE (sometimes) OPEN PAST 10 BETWEEN KEKAHA AND LIHUE. I'm not kidding, literally the only thing most nights since even our grocery stores close at 9 or 10. So if you want something to eat (aka drunchies) at 11 or 12 and McDonald's decides to close, you're SOL unless you want to drive all the way to Lihue which is 45 minutes for some of us. The sign on the door says the inside is open until 12AM and the drive through is supposedly open all night/late. If you plan on eating here after 10PM, I would highly recommend calling to see if they're open and still serving food. We drove from Omao to Eleele (heading back to Kekaha) around 11 and the doors were already locked for the night and the drive through was closed. We sat in the parking lot for a while (since we had already driven all the way out here and weren't trying to go home yet) and watched about 10 other cars come in only to be turned away by the workers who were just chilling in the restaurant. We didn't even see them start cleaning for a long time after that -- maybe another 40 minutes or so? For starters, why even have set hours if you're not going to follow them? Secondly, I have never heard of McDonald's being closed before. I don't eat McDonald's very often but at least when I'm at school up in the mainland I can guarantee that's one thing that will always be open no matter the time of night (or day if that's your thing), rain or shine. However, this place is so hit or miss with their hours and service that it's really not worth the drive unless you're super desperate and nothing else is open. TL;DR: This McDonald's has super inconsistent hours but is the only thing 'open late' on this side of the island. Call to see if they're open if you're trying to come here after 10PM. read more
