    Ube waffle was good
    Edith S.

Sisters and I vacayed on Kauai a couple of weeks back. During one of our leisurely day of exploring, we wanted breakfast. For a more local like experience, I searched for ube and ube waffle came up from the Da Reef Cafe. Perfect as it was in our way to the north side of the island. It was a rainy morning and we were lucky to grab the last spot. Customer service was so sweet. Love the ladies here. And so very helpful. Food delicious, especially the ube waffle. Fried was ono. Omelettes were good. And the best part, free live music. I guess. The musician in t-shirt, shirts and slippahs had a bar seat waiting for him right at the counter and he sat there and happily shared his talent with all the diners. And it was raining. Nice that the umbrellas were big enough to cover the four of us on the only outdoor patio dining. For sure I would come back.

We had breakfast here and absolutely loved it. They have a very nice patio with plenty of tables and umbrellas. We ordered a BLT, 2 Breakfast Be to Boxes and the veggie omelette. Everything was excellent especially the fried rice which is always my favorite. The staff are soooooo incredibly sweet, funny and friendly. We highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be back!

Came here based on last year's experience. Didn't disappoint. Staff is friendly. Business is clean and food is reasonably priced. Food is also delicious.

Da Reef Cafe is an order and takeout eatery. The ambiance is a grab and go. There is only outdoor seating. The service is very good, and the aunty taking the order is very nice and friendly. She makes you feel like you're at her home. The breakfast items we selected were excellent. Everything was prepared and cooked to perfection. Not a single item was overcooked. For the Breakfast Bento, the Portuguese sausage was slightly crisp on the outside, and very tender throughout. The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy. The fried rice was tasty and flavorful. I really enjoyed this selection. The Açaí breakfast bowl was very refreshing with the various textures of crunch, creaminess, and fruit flavors. A very delicious and healthy breakfast. The corned beef omelette was the special for the day. The corned beef was NOT canned, but made with real corned beef and onions. Very delicious. Every item we ordered tasted great. The only comment that we had was with the Breakfast Bento. Even though the food was excellent, the quantity you get for the price did not match. The bento is small, and the price should match the quantity. If the items were put on a plate as in a restaurant, you would able to see the difference. That said, I would still recommend giving Da Reef Cafe a visit for breakfast. The service is great and aunty will make you feel at home.

We loved everything about this place. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly which started off the experience quite well. The eggs bene with fresh banana bread, pog, and the biscuits and gravy were all amazing. Do yourself a favor and stop here!

    Classic Açaí Bowl

I got an açaí bowl here and I really enjoyed it. The food was ready quickly and it was good. The prices here were decent. However, they did make part of one of our orders incorrectly.

The breakfast burger is amazing! Have come here 4 days of our trip just for the burgers and açaí bowls! Staff are so kind and welcoming!

We came to this location twice to get our morning food and coffee before exploring the island. I HIGHLY recommend online ordering!! The first time was a long wait out the door, ordering with staff at the counter was friendly and quick. You will get your hockey puck pager and return to pickup when paged. The second time we did online ordering, we almost did not return because of the crowd, but online ordering was easy and pickup was SOO much nicer. They are crowded because the food, coffee and staff are soo good. It is located on the main road with limited parking, there are inside and outside seating, but it is crowded. Bathrooms can get a little overwhelming, but they were clean and maintained in this older building. DO COME, but ORDER ONLINE.

No xbloom pour-overs being served, so I settled for pre-made drip. The barista was friendly enough but couldn't tell me anything about the coffees on her own menu -- origin, roast, process, nothing. She recommended a mac nut latte for my partner, which felt less like a recommendation and more like the only thing she was sure of. The drip came out fast and hot. That's the last nice thing I have to say. The latte comes from a second window, where a different employee was actively hostile. Busy morning, so I asked if the drink was mine. She snapped that my name was written on the cup. It was -- facing her. I was apparently supposed to read it through the cup. Here's the real problem: someone clearly put thought into the roasting side of this business, and then handed the entire customer-facing operation to people who received no training whatsoever. Not in the coffee, not in basic hospitality. You can teach someone to smile. You can teach them to answer a question without contempt. Nobody bothered. Average coffee, worse service, priced for people who won't be back anyway -- and given the volume of visitors, that model probably works fine for them. It won't work for me. Kauai has cafés run by people who are genuinely obsessed with what they're doing. Go find one of those. Serious coffee drinkers should walk right past this place.

We both deduced the driver was a thief! The owner was super cool and chill and no one was to blame but DD. Regardless, we ordered the loco moco and it was DELICIOUS! Because of the DD mishap, the owner gave us 6 donuts. We came in the next day and grabbed some. The maple-bacon donut and Malasadas were pillowy and delicious. No names were called when the food was brought out, and there were only two parties dining in the restaurant. The food was placed directly on the other table, where it was eaten while we waited another 20 minutes for our order to be remade. From what we observed, the other party appeared to know the staff and was not asked to pay while we were there. Mistakes happen, and as fellow business owners, we understand that. What disappointed us was how the situation was handled. We would have appreciated ownership of the mistake and an effort to make it right. We wish you and your business the best. Original review: We stopped here for a light lunch after the Fern Grotto tour. The iced coffee was very good, but unfortunately our dining experience was disappointing. When ordering, the employee at the counter seemed impatient while we looked over the menu, and the interaction felt rushed. We ordered fries, wings, two malasadas, and a loco moco without an egg. While waiting we ended up getting iced coffees. After waiting about 15-20 minutes, our food was brought to another group, even though it matched our order exactly. We had to point out the mistake ourselves. The other group proceeded to eat the entire meal we paid for while we waited another 20 minutes for our order to be remade. There was very little acknowledgment of the error, no meaningful apology, and no effort to make the situation right beyond offering us different food while we waited. We had already paid and ultimately asked for our meal to go. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. Watching another table eat the meal we had ordered and paid for without anyone taking ownership of the situation made for a very uncomfortable experience. The wings and fries were average, the coffee was excellent, but based on the service and how this was handled, I would not recommend stopping here for a meal.

The sammich just didn't pack the level of flavor that one would expect. It came with a side of fries, which were actually not bad and pretty tasty. The person taking our order did not seem the be the friendliest person and came off rather stand-offish. Lastly, buyers beware. If you let it be known that you will be splitting a food item, they will charge you an additional $2.50. Typically, when places do this, it comes with a larger portion for each split of the dish, but this was not the case for us. They took the normal portion, charged as the additional fee, and have us no extra food. 2/5 and would not come back.
