Came here with high hopes of their global menu and left feeling disappointed. They only had two sandwiches, one from France the other from Spain. Since I was going to Au Cheval later that night I decided not to get a burger so I got the cheese bites from the UK. They were good but not worth going out of my way. The staff is friendly and very quick to get you your tray so that was a positive experience. You can certainly take someone out on a date here at McDonalds. Wait, did I just put those two together? Insane I know, but with a global emphasis at this spot, you're sure to find something interesting for yourself. This global McDonald's restaurant prides itself in offering some of the unique items you can't find in an American spot. When you walk in, you'll have the option of either ordering behind the counter or using technology to touch-screen your way through all the menu options. They still feature the main American staples for those that just really want a standard Big Mac and nothing else. While I appreciated the efforts they make to bring new flavors and items to Chicago, it lacked some stapled that I was really hoping for. In particular, I was devastated to not see Japan's famous ebi burger on their menu or Australia's "Build Your Burger" option on the touch screens. I had a great time designing my own burger down under and would have liked that option here in this global restaurant. I'd like to see more famous international fare served here in the future. My wife and I stopped here for dinner on a recent weekend trip to Chicago. Our daughters (10 and 13) thought the restaurant was really cool. I was so so so excited to come check out the global concept and was so so so underwhelmed. The handful of times I have traveled out of the US I love to see what items are on the Mickey D's menus. When I got here and looked at the menu they only had 2 global sandwich offerings. The only item on the whole menu that was different were the cheese bites from the UK. I live near west loop and I've frequented this location multiple times a week for the past year. Every visit I've had: Light-speed service (my orders are always ready in under 5 mins) Fresh food (always hot, always tastes great) & a good experience. The inside is thoughtfully designed; even when it's busy it's never loud. It's also tremendously clean for a McDonald's. They're well staffed; workers don't look like they're stressed or taking on too many responsibilities. I'd imagine this is why the food comes out good. Considering it's their headquarters location, their level of upkeep makes sense, but it still pleases me! In terms of their global menu-don't expect a huge number of options. If you've graduated to the level of being a boujee or connoisseur of McDonald's you are ready for the Global Headquarters! I love this for the main reason that you can exclusively purchase international eats from franchises around the world here. It's always cool to see what's trending in different cultures, and this is such an easy way to peek inside. A lot of the menu items are staples that you can find here in the United States, and they consistently rotate in international selections from sweet potato fries from the Netherlands, Twister Fries from Malaysia, and Big Tasty from Sweden. I looooove a good sweet potato fry, so I can't wait for them to return to the menu. Didn't know about this McDonald's until my sister introduced me when I was visiting for Christmas. The concept of having a McDonald's serve foods from their international branches kind of blows my mind, and makes me sad that there should be more of these around (or at least the option to do so, but I guess it would take a massive overhaul of their system). Anyhoo... the McDonald's is actually a pretty nice one, it's got leather bench seating and gives the place a "fancier" feel. The store was well kept and I even saw a private room (maybe for kids parties) or just the large family with children. When you walk in, there are some self-serve kiosks that are in front and you can peruse the menu. They also have folks you can order from (the old fashioned way), but it definitely helps to have the touch-screen kiosks since their menu items are seasonal depending on what countries they are featuring. I'm not a Chicago native, but in the west loop we made a little "food tour" and this was our pre-stop stop before heading to all the other restaurants located within walking distance. read more

Finally made it here and it wasn't even on our agenda! We were actually killing time before dinner, so we decided to pop in to see what's up :) I've always been curious about what McDonald's in other countries serve. Outside of the US, I've only experienced McDonald's (or McDo as Filipinos call it) in the Philippines, where the menu includes fried chicken, rice and spaghetti to compete with the nation's #1 fast-food chain. I didn't find any of the current global offerings toooo intriguing, but we were determined to try at least 2 items. The cheese snacks (Belgium) weren't melty and gooey as I'd hoped but was still tasty--kinda like cheese curds, but this used camembert. Meanwhile, the kaiser chicken sandwich (Poland) just tasted a bit flat for me; there was no burst of flavor. They also had a Chips Ahoy! McFlurry (Guatemala) that I wish I got to try. Aside from global menu items, other interesting options included some decadent looking pastries displayed in a glass case on the order counter like chocolate hazelnut croissant and coffee cakes. Anyway, being the flagship location, this one's very futuristic, clean, and spacious. We came here around 3 pm on a Saturday to try the international menu......they were out of EVERYTHING. Total waste of time.

I was SO(!!) looking forward to trying this place since I like to try different items on from McDonalds menu when traveling to different countries. Looking at the pictures from menu kiosk, I couldn't decide what to order because they all looked so good. Once the order came out 25 minutes later, I was so disappointed to open up my sandwich box and see what my sandwich looked like. Humph, typical American McDonald's presentation- sandwich all flattened out with over cooked crispness of chicken. I would've taken pictures of my food but I was too angry leaving this place. My order came out after too long of a wait- whatever happened to "fast food"? They made my drinks wrong- one missing and one incorrect. Large coke came as large sprite, I got my drink corrected and left the place. I drank it in the car, it was a large Diet Coke. They also forgot my order of iced coffee, so we waited extra 5 minutes for them to process it. It felt like I waited at the restaurant for 30 minutes for the food to come out- so much for fast food restaurant. Would I go again? Absolutely not. Such a cool concept but it's driving people away because the workers can't meet the project launch. read more

Literally all the global menu items were sold out, with the exception of the Ebi shrimp sandwich. I tried it and it was honestly mid, I don't get the hype. Maybe I just came on a really bad day, but I kinda wish they had some of the other fun items available. The decor is nice and generally looks better than the average McDonald's, but the fact that they didn't have the menu items they advertise is a massive disappointment. It was a spacious McDonalds and the service was great, but the menu was really just all regular menu items with THREE international options. I have heard they rotate options every so often, but to only offer a mocha Oreo McFlurry from Japan, taco shaker fries and a McSpicy hardly earns this place a visit for a "global McDonald's". The prices I think are on par with any other McDonald's location. It's attached to Hamburger University which is cool but you can't tour or see it because you have to know someone to go inside. read more

Who knew the headquarters, THE ultimate McDonald's is in West Loop of Chicago! We love coming here for a quick pick up lunch, sometimes breakfast and even a little afternoon dessert/snack sometimes since we work close by. This McD's has table service with workers in uniform and you'd always see a manager or two helping out with everyone's orders. It is definitely one of the most aesthetic looking branch, but of course it is the HQ after all. Most customers here use the kiosks that are lined right in front of the counter and to the right of it. They do get really busy at times so make sure you check your bags to see if everything is in there and especially check to see if they put in your McNugget sauces!! The unique thing about this HQ branch is that they have a seasonal global menu! They have specialty burgers to desserts to drinks that you can only get in those regional McD's but they'd have it at this one for a few weeks. It's nice to find out what kind of things they'd have from places like Germany or even India. Make sure to use the McD app for deals! Sometimes you get really nice BOGO and sometimes it'd only make a $1 difference but still, better than nothing. read more

Yes we specifically came here on a day trip to Chicago. We wanted to check out the international menu they offer. Unfortunately their breakfast menu doesn't have much aside from baked goods like the croissant from the Canadian menu. If you're coming here specifically to try the international menu don't come for breakfast! Aside from that disappointment this location is really nice. Super clean and modern with a cafe style atmosphere. Some tables have built in wireless charging. The food is brought to your table and frankly despite getting a standard breakfast plate I felt the quality of the food was better. Fun, unexpected visit to the International McDonalds. I didn't know this existed but shouldn't be too surprised since Chicago is where McDonalds is headquartered. It's an interesting concept and I hope they expand on the menu. Menu was simple and had several items from across the globe. I wished there were more options but nonetheless happy to see representation from Europe to Asia. Ordered - Prosperity Burger from Singapore (2/5). This looked more appealing than it tasted. A good description of this burger is that it is a salt & pepper mystery meat that you may have had growing up as a kid. Not so pleasant and should have tried the Kung Pao Chicken instead. - Twister Fries Fries (4/5). Tastes like Arby - 'nuff said. I've been here a few times, and it's definitely a great experience- nice place to bring people who haven't been to Chicago before! They have kiosks where you can order, and the employees bring out the food to your table. Beyond the food, this place is definitely an experience worth trying out, in a very nice, up and coming area! This place obviously has a more expansive menu than a typical McDonalds restaurant, bringing in a variety of items from McDonalds around the world. The most recent items that caught my eye (11/17/18) were the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich from Canada, the McAloo Tikki from India, German wafer McFlurry, and a Brazilian sundae type item. The first time I came here, I tried the Hong Kong Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I was a bit disappointed as it tasted exactly like a normal McChicken sandwich, but this could also be because I can handle quite a bit of spice. I was bit more satisfied during my most recent visit, when I ordered and tried several dessert items. I ordered the Hot Fudge Brazillian sundae, and my friends ordered the German wafer McFlurry. The Brazilian sundae was solid, it basically was like a regular sundae but with a lot more hot fudge sauce, along with two Pirouette's (I think that's what they're called). The German wafer McFlurry was much different and I highly recommend it! It has chunks of chocolate wafers in it and is absolutely delicious! This is the cleanest shiniest McDonalds I've ever been to! You can order at a kiosk, take a table number, and seat yourself for minimal human interaction. Their international menu changes, so I didn't get to try the Hong Kong chicken sandwich I was excited about, but the bleu cheese bacon hamburger from France was pretty good. The wasabi fries are worth trying though I still prefer the original (salty, greasy) fries. They give you a mixing bag and seasoning powder so you can season to taste. The real winner was the Italian baci mcflurry. Tastes like Nutella ice cream with crunchy hazelnut bits mixed in. It was so good I would think about dropping by a McDonalds when I'm in Italy... Also important to note, the entrance is on Randolph, not Carpenter! We thought they were closed the first time we went because the Carpenter entrance was locked. read more

It's McDonalds! C'mon man! What can be so different than any other Mickey Dees? Well I indent to tell you. I know that most people are gonna rave about the global menu and the ideal that we can be united through Big Macs and shakes. And I am one of those raving about the international menu items served here! But the most significant feature that this MCD's has borrowed from that of its international brethren is the look and layout of this restaurant. I've managed to spoil myself to a fair amount of travel outside the US and where the Golden Arches is winning is in the Cafe and Comfort approach to serving its international constituency. In fact, if I lived in Hong Kong and came to visit the US, I might be heavily disappointed in the American McDonalds menu and experience. When you walk in to this particular restaurant, you can't help but notice a modern and sophisticated layout with a mixture of comfortable cafe seating as well as quick service bar style seating for those on the go. The space is inviting and anything but tacky. There's a second feature here that I've also seen solely at international locations is the McCafe bar. I actually enjoy McDonalds coffee and I don't need all the frills of the McCafe menu. But getting something like a muffin or croissant is a nice alternative to a McMuffin and hash browns. In fact, I'll go as far as saying that in my travel to Asia and parts of Europe, McCafe was my preferred point or rest and snack, because of the extensive beverage and snack menu with traditional local menu items and snacks. Matcha green Tea Latte or a Flat White anyone? Not in the US you don't! I had a genuine French Blue Cheese burger, a Brazilian Top Sundae and Hong Kong Wasabi fries! They all tasted fine. The cheese was sharp and tart on the burger. The fries were crispy and spicy and the ice cream was milk chocolate and smooth. I enjoyed the food and the experience. My hope is that they make this more of a staple rather than a showcase. Outside the US, I can get my kids a grilled cheese and a in the name of progress and growth, I hope that this concept spreads throughout. It's nice that McDonalds is putting their best foot forward and highlighting what the restaurant can be. I'm hoping that this goes beyond concept and into a full rollout for some, if not all our locations. McDonalds holds a special spot in my heart for what it represented to me as a kid. But believe you me, I have not ever fed my kids a Big Mac, nor do I plan on starting that trend anytime soon. A croissant or maybe a Cookies and Cream cheesecake however might entice me to spend more of my time and money at a participating restaurant. A for effort, C+ for implementation. The dining area is very nice and modern but the menu doesn't have that many international items. The "Chinese" spicy chicken sandwich my husband had wasn't much different than the American version we've had before. We also had the Australian bacon cheese fries that are pretty standard here in the ole USA. I was pleasantly surprised by the Italian Mozzarella Chicken Salad. It was pasta salad with chicken, roasted red pepper, and a nice portion of tasty mozzarella cheese. Most of the "global" items appeared to be desserts (also pretty widely available here already). I would camp outside Black Friday style to get my hands on some of the rösti fries that McDonald's serves in Switzerland or the brie bites from Austria.
