Ordered 2 simple burgers and fries and a drink via Uber Eats. First time customer. They could not even get the order right. They smothered both burgers on melted cheese. I'm not able to eat dairy. Despite being a big burger fan, I had never had Five Guys before and decided to give it a go last night. I ordered delivery through Amazon Restaurants because I had a promo code for a discount. 15 minutes later, I got a text message saying they cancelled my order. I was not happy about this but had already hyped myself up for the burger, so I ordered delivery again, this time through Postmates... and they didn't cancel the order this time, which made me think that they cancelled the first order because they were bitter that I got a discount. The food was pretty good. I got a bacon burger and added lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, and BBQ sauce. The double patties were nice and juicy, and the burger was definitely what I was craving on this late night: pretty greasy with generous amount of sauces. I also got an order of cajun fries, which were a little soggy and greasy (the paper bag and napkins were drenched in grease) but had okay flavors, although I'm not sure it was worth $5. My accomplishment of the night was that I can now say I've had Five Guys. Been awhile since I had Five Guys... I forgot how filling these burgers are and they're double patty, but they do offer a "Little" version of the same cheeseburger so I'll go with that next time. On Monday, 12/16/19 we placed a very large order for delivery by Door Dash. The Door Dash delivery woman brought a single sandwich from another vendor (which we did not accept). She indicated that she "might have delivered our order somewhere else." Five Guys blamed Door Dash and Door Dash said there was nothing that they could do. Not even an apology ! First of all, most of these negative reviews are garbage. People are complaining about delivery service that has nothing to do with the restaurant. As someone who works for a major delivery service, let me say if you've had a negative experience, it's most likely not a reflection on the customer service at the restaurant. That said, who doesn't like Five Guys? If you don't like a burger from Five Guys then you don't really like a burger. It's kind of like thin crust pizza. If you don't like it, you don't really like pizza. I digress. The burgers are perfect. With the exception of bad experience in Atlanta, Five Guys never disappoints. The fries are second to none. Shakes are fantastic. I've been to this place in numerous cities and always get the quality of food that I expect. (Cough...except Atlanta...cough). Why did I decide to write a review today? Because THIS location in Chicago is my favorite. I have been to this location more than any other. This location is the best because of one thing...CUSTOMER SERVICE! The people who complained about customer service at this location SIT ON A THROWN OF LIES! The employees here are always friendly and helpful. They always make you feel like you belong here. I give props to management for creating a positive atmosphere where a frequent traveler such as myself can come, sit down, eat the quality burger and fries that they are expecting, and feel like they are welcome. Here's what you need to know: mediocre and overpriced burgers. Fries are good, only when fresh out of the fryer. 5 guys WAS all the rage when they were new and cheap and only catered to untapped small markets. This is a classic example of a very well marketed mediocre franchise, which is all hype. The cheeseburger is $9 and just meh - Meat quality is good for a chain, but under seasoned and certainly not "crispy outside soft inside" as they will have you believe. The Cheese is mediocre and the mushrooms are bland and slimy. The food takes about 7-10 minutes with no line (as in literally zero people ahead of you). Every 2 years I get swept up in the hype and go back to 5 guys but alas, have never had a good experience. The only problem for me is that no one assists me because they are too busy. There were only a few waiters. So I recommend that it's better that they have more staff in their resto. The food was average so it was very 3-star appropriate. But the PACKAGING was a nightmare. Last night we ordered food through DoorDash mainly because it had the quickest delivery. Yes, indeed the food arrived within 20 minutes after placing the order. The food came in a grease-soaked brown bag, fries spilling out with no sealing whatsoever, left on our apartment's pickup counter. It was disgusting to even pick up the food. With coronavirus going around and restaurants offering tamper proof sealing and protections, five guys' food packaging was temper-inducing and virus-inviting. There was not even a plastic bag around, so the oil from the fries was soaking not just the brown bag but also the pickup counter it was placed on!!!!! GROSS! We tried only eating the parts that weren't touching the bag but I am not sure if that was successful. So I had a BAD experience with Five Guys in Burlington, MA and the regional manager and HQ asked what they could do to correct it. I simply asked for a refund but instead sent me a couple of gift cards. That was nice of them or so it would seem. I went to this location and placed my order. I swiped one of the the cards and entered the pin number at the terminal in front of the register - it didn't work. Same thing happened with the other card. The cashier said oh no you have to use a different machine which was about a foot away. I stepped over to the machine she pointed to and she said now use your card here so go ahead and swipe it. I swiped the gift card and a mechanical leg shot up and kicked me in the balls. She then said OMG, I am so sorry. I meant the machine next to that machine. Please swipe your other card this time. I swiped the other card and a robotic arm extended and slapped me in the face. She then said, thank you for coming to Five Guys, have a great day! Moral of the story: if you give Five Guys poor feedback, they will send you invalid gift cards. I would have preferred for them to tell me to go f**k myself but instead got a kick in the balls and a slap in the face. read more

I stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon and had a really good meal. Decor: It's a Five Guys so the decor is standard: it's bright, clean, and set up with nothing to hide as you can see your burger being made every step of the way. There is room for a line (that will GROW at lunch) and plenty of tables of varying sizes to choose from. They also play some solid tunes! Bathroom: Again, it's a standard Five Guys bathroom: clean, bright, inviting. Staff: The staff was VERY friendly and very FAST (both with taking my order and preparing the food). Another thing that is pretty obvious is that they seem to like working there, they seem happy and energetic. In fact, I think the staff here is one of the nicest and most courteous I've ever experienced. Not only were they friendly, as I mentioned, but they were eager to help anyone no matter what they were doing! A guy who was mid-changing the garbage offered to grab a woman napkins that she inquired about and the guy putting the finishing touches on the burgers had a new patty cooked b/c I overheard him say "this isn't how we do things here, guys!" and discarded the sad looking patty. Also, there was a woman "working the line" and introducing people to just how Five Guys works (b/c this is a new location). WONDERFUL staff. Food/Drink: I only had a burger and Little fries and both were prepared to perfection. Seriously, the burger (2 patties standard!) was cooked perfectly and tasted so fresh! I also had the free peanuts - I love the peanuts - and a water. Everything was A+! Value: For the price, you can't beat the solid burger & fries combo at Five Guys. Both taste wonderful and are pretty cheap as well. Naturally, you can get a burger+fries cheaper somewhere else but not of this taste and quality. Five Guys, to me, is part of my Holy Burger Trinity: In-N-Out, Shake Shack, and Five Guys. You will be hard pressed to find a better burger than these three, even at small mom-and-pop shop. It was nearly empty during the lunch hour and I found out why. Basically they gave up. At least half of the peanuts are stale. Should be able to give a negative review on this one because this is beyond ridiculous. Went to this store at approximately 845 this evening the sign is brightly lit up as "OPEN" There are customers inside eating. I try to open the door and it's locked. I check the times on the door, look at my watch, look at the brightly LIT "OPEN" sign and try the door again. Nope it's locked. Stand there for a moment then a male employee comes to the door and cracks the door open and says "We closed" maybe he saw my confused look because he follows it up with "hey lady see the blood behind you well its mine and I got jumped so again we are closed" shuts the door. What a rip off. Over $10 for a "little bacon burger" and small fries, no drink. No lunch combo option. Fries were greasy, soggy, undercooked and not salted; I didn't grab salt cuz I saw the season salt shaker but they apparently forgot and I had none at my desk; thank goodness for ketchup but still bad. WTH? That was about 50 cents worth of the burger! I shouldn't have made them give me another patty. By far the worst FGB experience we've ever had. The burger was gray, the onions were cut the size of quarters, the fries were over cooked and very greasy. Even the pop was nasty - I tried 4 different kinds to make sure it wasn't just me. We were the only customers at 7pm on a Friday night so that should have been our clue. The worst part is that I'm fairly certain an employee stole my husbands wallet. He used it to pay and like I said we were the only customers there. After we ate we walked outside the front door to the car and he noticed it was missing when he reached for the keys in his pocket. He went back to ask if he left it inside but the employees were very rude/short.
