Instead, I ended up with a couple types of pasta, papa duquesas (a mashed potato bite that was amazing), steak in a garlic sauce and fish in a chipotle sauce. There was also an assortment of Halloween inspired desserts and some special themed entertainment. We were only at the resort for 5 nights so this was our one opportunity to have a Mexican dinner here because we were booked at the other restaurants on the other nights. I'm looking forward to trying it when I return in April as there are multiple things on the menu that I'm making a note of, including: tableside guac, melted cheese, fish taco, chicken enchilada, steak fajitas and possibly the catch of the day. We did go back to try the breakfast buffet later in the trip though. It was a standard assortment of breakfast food with an omelette and crepe station and some Mexican dishes. After looking up good places to go, Bar La Playa came up- and I'm sure glad it did! First, it's easy to get to if you're coming from North. Our Uber was easily able to drop us off without getting stuck in gridlock traffic that can affect certain roads of this area. Additionally, the location isn't a high-traffic area for tourists. That meant we were able to walk up and immediately find seats. Second, the service was top notch. I didn't get the bartenders name, but he was very welcoming, friendly, hospitable and spoke English. Just an overall cool dude and was glad to support his business. Third, the drinks were great. Finally, we were drinking 'real' drinks, not the watered down sugary stuff at the hotel. We were very satisfied with the taste of the drinks. Fourth, the prices are really good. Mexico has gotten expensive and this was a sigh of relief. You can have a great time here without feeling like you paid an arm and a leg. I highly-highly recommend making Bar La Playa your first stop when coming to this area. You're going to get great service, great drinks and all at a price that is reasonable and fair.
