Had breakfast here on Sunday morning before heading out of town. It was busy, but they had just enough space for us to grab a table. Coffee was served from eclectic mugs, friendly staff, and a hometown, diner kinda feel were pretty much what I would expect in Fairmont. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my bf ordered a combo plate with bacon, eggs, toast and a side of french toast. Coffee tasted like diner coffee... or like coffee from grandma's house -- like it was made with a fine aged coffee pot with folgers. The sausage in my burrito was tasty, but overall, there were too many potatoes which made it dry (even with salsa and sour cream) and it could have used more eggs and cheese instead. bf didn't have anything to complain about, but then again his was pretty basic. Overall, it was a bit underseasoned, so I'd likely go for something basic next time I'm in search of breakfast in the friendly city. read more

Recently, I've been from place to place looking for a good breakfast spot, and this is the only place that passes my test. A few days ago I stopped in here and found the hands down best breakfast that you can find anywhere. I don't know what it is that they do, but their food is magic. The western style omelet was perfect. The meat and vegetables didn't water down the eggs. It was the perfect sponge texture. Generally I only eat breakfast on my days off of work and this is my new regular spot in the coming weeks. read more

So less than impressed. Eggs were overdone, pancakes were doughy. Hashbrowns were a pile of grease. We had to wave someone down to refill our coffee. This was just really bad. read more

So I have been hearing nothing but good reviews about this place from personal friends, so I decided to give it a try today for breakfast. K ordered the chili and homemade white bread while I had an order of hotcakes and an order of homemade white bread. The chili was appetizing, plentiful, hot, but overly spicy. The bread complimented it well for dipping. I had the hotcakes, 3 full sized plate pancakes, which were huge. I didn't get butter delivered to he table so I just had them with syrup. They were extremely filling, and I could only eat half the plate.. (Which is unlike me!). Service was slow for a slow morning, parking was sparse, the prices seemed a little high for what we were actually getting. I wasn't amazed by anything at this place, so I don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon, but I might drop in again. read more

Very authentic "down home"; very friendly staff. Family-run. A real "find", for us non-McDonald's type diners. Loads of local memorabilia on the walls and all around. We ate at the counter and lingered. The night before, we'd "dined" in Grafton with the Colonel (yeah, food is 'that' bad, in Grafton). We'll go out of our way to eat at McAteer's again, you bet. read more

Definitely the best place in Fairmont to plan for a small breakfast with a large group or just for two. This place has an amazing, "Fairmontian" atmosphere that will really make you appreciate the city and the history. The food is amazing, as I have visited many times and have ordered plenty of different things. I love the hotcakes, the breakfast burrito, and the egg salad sandwich. Service is very quick, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only downfall is being able to accept cash or check, but that can't stop me from leaving a 5 star review. You should definitely check in if you're in the city and need a place to eat for breakfast or lunch! read more

So my friend and I were very hungover after a night out and needed breakfast. We go to WVU so we drove to 3 different places in Morgantown and all were closed or not serving breakfast. We drove 30 min to Fairmont for Poky Dot cause we heard it had good food, and they were closed too. So we last minute decided to go to McAteers. I think the universe directed us here. The food was fantastic and so was the coffee. But the service was the best of the whole experience! Our waitress was so nice and all the people in the restaurant were kind with smiles on their faces. It is the greatest food. Very good pricing as well. I would recommend checking them out especially if you like good home cooked food. You will not be disappointed. I have had breakfast several times and it was so perfect. Not a large place but it has plenty of seating and the staff is wonderful. I owned my own restaurant of similar size and type in the past and I appreciate great food and friendly service. I love this place. When I walked in the front door, the smell immediately reminding me of my grandmother's kitchen. The service is generally very good, but due to the demand they can become quite overwhelmed during the busiest hours. There are a lot of items related to Fairmont nostalgia across the restaurant.
