My food was good, unfortunately the service was not. I placed an order at the counter to carry out. The restaurant was very slow on this Saturday late afternoon. I was the only person at the counter, and there was one person sitting at a table. There were three employees behind the counter. My order was simple, just a sandwich and side of mac & cheese. I sat down at the nearest table and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally I went back to the counter, thinking maybe my order hadn't been sent to the kitchen. On a cold day, I crave a hot cup of soup. Mc Alister's is a chain that serves sandwiches, soups and salads. They'd been pushing a special soup called Kicken' Crab Chowder, which sounded really good. You order and pay at the counter when you enter and then get your drink and find a table. This location has a lot of tables and booths that are comfortable. The place is clean, but not particularly interesting. The menu offers a mix of sandwiches and combo plates. The clerk who took my order was friendly and accommodating. The food was to my table so fast, I hardly had time to get my drink. The Kicken' Crab Chowder was surprisingly flavorful with the distinct taste of crab and a hint of spicy heat. Good food, but a very uncomfortable and unprofessional service experience that felt noticeably different from how other guests were treated. My husband (active duty Marine) and I were visiting from North Carolina and I brought him here because this location used to be one of my favorites when I lived in the area. Unfortunately, this visit did not reflect the Hoosier hospitality I used to associate with this restaurant. None of the two employees we primarily interacted with were wearing name tags. For clarity, I'll refer to the brunette employee with glasses as "Sally" and the bearded employee wearing a manager shirt as "Mike." We arrived around 11:30 AM. There was no line. While we looked at the menu for a few minutes, we were asked if we were ready to order three separate times in very quick succession by the same two employees. This alone wasn't a major issue, but it set an awkward tone. When ordering, Sally asked if I wanted a drink. I showed her the water I already had and declined. She handed me a large cup anyway (we were not charged). When I attempted friendly conversation and mentioned we were visiting and that this location used to be a favorite of mine, she did not respond beyond a brief "okay," and did not engage further. My husband ordered a lemonade, which employees fill. He stood waiting with his empty cup while Sally walked away without taking it. Mike then came out and said he would get it after delivering food, but rolled his eyes while saying this. That behavior from someone in a management role was surprising and felt unprofessional. During our visit, Mike personally ran food to nearly every other table and checked back with multiple guests about food quality and satisfaction. Despite making eye contact with us multiple times, he never checked on our table. Notably, our order was the only one he did not run. Sally brought our food instead. She appeared unsure where it belonged, walked around the dining room briefly, then brought it to us. I thanked her and received no response. Throughout our meal we observed Sally looking toward our table multiple times from the counter area and quickly looking away. Mike continued to check on surrounding tables but avoided our entire row of booths, including ours. To be clear: the food quality itself was very good. The concern here is the inconsistency in guest interaction and the professionalism of the service experience compared to other tables around us. As someone who recommended this location based on past positive experiences, this visit was disappointing and honestly a bit embarrassing since it was my husband's first time visiting. This has been a long time coming. I've lived around here for a couple of years and have always meant to try McAlister's. So amazed I did. It started with having a soup craving and asking my wife if McAlister's was "any good?". Answer: delicious. I ordered the turkey jalapeño crunch sandwich with a broccoli cheese soup. Wifey ordered an Italian with a chicken quesadilla soup. Wow, everything was so good and filling. We couldn't finish so we took it home and had an awesome late night snack. It's also pretty affordable, so taking a group there won't break the bank. There isn't any alcohol sold here so very family friendly. The lemonade was pretty spot on too (I mixed it with sprite). As always this is a delightful spot to meet up with friends or enjoy a meal on your own. Our server Victoria was amazing and also quite friendly, and she gave us some helpful suggestions when we wanted to try something new. I have a go to salad that I love here which has fruit as well as nuts. I always ask for avocado in place of chicken and love that they accommodate. Plus it is nice the salad dressing is on the side, without even asking! I found it fresh and bountiful as usual and almost could t complete the whole portion (but of course did). Their porch is nice for spring evenings and it was fun to have time to chat but also getting drink refills as needed. All in all a go to spot for good food and a fun atmosphere! read more

We have never eaten at a McAlister's before, as we've never seen them in our home state. So far, I am not fully impressed. It's a standard sandwich deli with a unique menu option of loaded baked potatoes, as well as common sides like Mac n cheese or chips. The service was friendly and easy-going, with an atmosphere to match. On the good side, my husband absolutely enjoyed his king club sandwich. He said the sweet Dijon mustard was the best part of his sandwich, and he ate the whole thing in one go. My sandwich, sadly, was not very tasty. There was way too much brown mustard, which overpowered the other flavors; as well as the house-roasted peppers were very soggy and bland. I might order it again, but with several modifications. We both ordered sides of Mac n cheese, but were wholly disappointed by it. It was a squishy soggy mess with not much to offer. The saving grace for me, was the chipotle chicken and bacon spud I ordered. Although it definitely needed some seasoning, it was filling and tasty enough to save the meal. First time here and I am pleasantly surprised at how courteous the staff is here. I wasn't very hungry so I got a kids meal grilled cheese was thin but tasted good. Okay, I am not a fan of chain restaurants but McAlister's Deli does it right. They have a pretty big menu, food is consistently good quality from location to location, and they are always willing to make adjustments to their menu items. I am partial to their salads, but their sandwiches, soups, spuds, and nachos are good too! They have a large dining room with a casual ambiance and friendly staff! This location is especially great because they have added a Tea bar, so you can get your drink and refills right away with out waiting in the order line again. Stopped in for lunch yesterday. There were like 8 kids working behind the counter but only one was running a register and the others were staring at the monitor to assemble orders, so the line moved very slowly. Once it was our turn, I went to order a Reuben with potato salad and I was informed they were out of potato salad. The potato salad is one of the best things at McAlister's and no other side was of interest so I switched to a pick 2 with a Reuben and salad. The other reason I go to McAlister's besides the potato salad is the iced tea. And the cups are a great size so you can fill up before you leave and nurse it the rest of the afternoon. However they were out of the cups so they gave us smaller paper cups. The food took a long time to be brought to the table and then the Reuben was cold. A very disappointing trip. The service at this location has always been hit or miss but the mismanagement of the staff combined with what seems to be poor ordering of ingredients and supplies suggests poor management that is not likely to improve. Sadly, my last few visits here have been pretty bad. My experience yesterday prompted me to update my review. I went in around 6:15 on a Sunday evening. I ordered the southwest turkey melt with a side of coleslaw to-go. The store was pretty empty but there were plenty of to-go orders that were being fulfilled. I sat down and waited about 20 minutes before I went up to see how much longer it would be. My food had been ready but one of the employees hadn't called my name and just sat it down on the counter. I was clearly flustered and the manager just stood at the end of the counter and continued to have small talk with one of the employees. When I got to my car to check my order it was wrong. I drove up to the pick-up window and told them it was wrong. It took another 10 minutes for another sandwich to be brought out. When I got home the coleslaw tasted like it had gone bad. I threw it away immediately. There's no sense of urgency with any of the employees here and I got no sort of apology for the poor service. We visit this location frequently as it is a healthier to go option and we live across the street. The service is not great, a younger staff and I never see any supervisors around keeping them on track. If we call in our order, it is almost always wrong. We have better luck going in and ordering to go and double checking before we leave. All in all, you get what you get. It is not expensive and convenient for us so we can deal with the teenage staff not having it all together. Also- AVOID this place on a Sunday during church hours. I like their large, but simple, menu. I decided to go with a sandwich for my first visit especially since I was taking it to go. I'd like to do the choose 2 option with soup next time I dine in. I'm always afraid of ordering food to go without checking every box first but our order was perfect. Visited the McAlister's in Whitestown Indiana for dinner along with several others. Our order for four was just over $50.00. I attempted to pay with a $100.00 bill in which both the attendant and manager stated that they could not accept a $100.00 bill and could only accept $50.00 bills. Since when has a $100.00 bill become "not legal tender"? And has simple math eluded basic education? If they will accept a $50.00 bill and my bill came to just over $50.00 then that tells me that they should have been able to accept the $100.00 bill and provide the correct change due. After seeing a few low reviews I wanted to post my feelings on this McAlisters in Whitestown. Day after day I watch some very hard working employees bust themselves to make things right for the guests. I go here maybe 3x a week and sometimes I stay for 3 hours and work. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I have seen them mess up and I have seen them take great care of people too. I'm sure it's not always perfect, but if it's not- ask for a manager. I have yet to meet one of them that won't go above and beyond to make you satisfied. And, if you are there seeing a guy working on his laptop drinking the best iced tea in the world, stop by and say hi.
