First day of a new job Lunch! New to this side of town and stopped in here for a little comfort of something I recognized. The Atmosphere - Well it was clean and tidy. Again there is little personality to most locations these days yet the functionality and the ability to clean quickly is at a premium. But, there is little about the restaurant that is comfortable or memorable. So this gets the standard 3 stars. The Staff - I had the good fortune to interact with several of the staff members this time. And ALL of them were extremely nice, kind, and friendly. They went out of their way to check on me several times and remind me that I could get a refill on my drink. They gall at the checkout even offered to bring me the desert that I had on rewards that was set to expire soon. Some of the best Customer Service I have seen in a while. - 5 stars. The Food - Well this is the number one reason to swing in. They have a number of great creations and options to pick more than one. They do let you customize a sandwich should you want. I think this is as good as it gets (unless you head to a "real" deli where YOU decide what is on the sandwich. This visit I had the Pick 2 (which is common) where I had a fantastic Club sandwich and a Chef salad. Pretty healthy over all. (I used extra dressing and ate brookie bites so scratch the healthiness). 4 stars Overall - This was a fantastic visit to an old favorite. The food could have just a little more wow... and by now you all know how I feel about the clean/institutional look and feel of eateries. A perfect lunch space. I love McAlister's. We go a few times a month, but that changed today as I will not go back to this particular McAlister's. I know restaurants get busy, I know it was a very busy lunch shift today, and I also know mistakes get made. Today we ordered and waited 20+minutes for our food. We were with a group and they all had their food within 5-8 minutes. One friend arrived 15 minutes later than us and ordered 15 minutes after we ordered, she got her food before ours as well. When the waitress brought that friends food, I said "We ordered 20 minutes ago and " the very rude girl cut me off and pointed to the window and said, "Well it's made you will have to wait for someone to bring it out." I was dumbfounded I was not being rude and was going to ask if we had been forgotten or maybe our food was delivered to the wrong table, but she cut me off. Then had the audacity to yell at me from about 10 feet away. "You can have your money back." I told her that was not necessary but I would like a little compassion. Then the rude waitress purposely put our meals to the side and delivered other tables, like 3 others, their food then finally brought ours out. We asked to talk with the manager and he was very uncaring and apathetic. My sandwich had sat in the window so long, the ciabatta was hard, dry and cold. My husband's sandwich was cold as well. The food is decent, I got a club sandwich both times we went. The first time I ate there was when the family went for Mother's Day (it's where the moms wanted to go). They went specifically for the butter pecan cheesecake that is on Mcallisters online menu. When the family arrived and ordered, the staff said they "had it in the back but were not putting it out for sale yet." They didn't know when they would. Seriously? I see two things wrong with that. #1: don't have it on the menu if you are not going to sell it. #2: if it is in the "back" but not out for sale and they don't know when it'll they will be able to put it out, it is probably a pre-made frozen gross texture anyway. Fast forward to today. My dad and sister went there again and ate, then brought lunch home to my mom and I bc I had ankle surgery and was unable to go. He tried to order the butter pecan cheesecake again today and was told they are still not serving it. Note that it is still on their menu. BTL sandwiches are pretty straight forward you guys. The one I tried at McAlister's Deli was alright. Nothing too special about it, but that's ok too of course. ^_^ It was a lovely sandwich, along with great company off and on as I ate! This was the first time I've ever gone to McAlister's and due to how pleasant the experience was I'll definitely return to give more sandwiches of theirs a try! The 3 employees I met were as sweet and welcoming as could be. Especially Ari, the lovely gal at the front register. ^__^ The restaurant itself was nicely laid out, booths and tables weren't too close together, and the lobby was well lit. I look forward to my next visit to explore more goodies they have to offer! I think the best bet would be going for one of their personalized sandwiches one typically wouldn't find on other standard deli menus. BLTs are a safe go-to for me for quick meal-stops I suppose. Yikes. Like soup and sandwich places have a low bar for sure but this McAlister's is trying to redefine how the bar even exists in the first place. I've been to this location multiples times the past few years I've lived in the area and every time it's a nightmare service and food-wise. Both issues I'm sure could be solved by paying their workers more to care about the work they do. Wether it's watching a server circle the room with our hot food in their hands and our table number on clear display or them refusing to call out my or my partner's name for pickup orders and them sitting in the back for a half and hour while the app tells us the order is still working - it's always predictable. Teach the team to communicate clearly to each other and I doubt this would ever happen. The food for this franchise is barely better than Wendy's or Subway yet they insist on charging you double their prices. The first time I went where the chicken on the sandwich was mostly gristle to my latest endeavor where the avocado was completely rotten and the potato salad tasted like there was chemical cleaner in it. You're better off getting food down the highway from a place that at least doesn't allow rotted food or scraps be served. read more

Went to McAlisters for a second chance. I have no idea what's going on with McAlisters lately, but the quality and quantity of food is getting so bad it's ridiculous. I wouldn't even call this a deli anymore. Sandwiches and the portion you get are subpar. For the same amount of money, I could go to Jasons deli and get three to four times the amount of meats and/or food. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. I don't usually post reviews, but I was the first customer in today, my macaroni and cheese is ice cold and I don't have time to heat it myself or return it. I wouldn't mind as much if I wasn't already skeptical about the very nice young woman at the counter being sick. She coughed and sneezed the entire time I was there. And I didn't even get hot sides. One sandwich doesn't have a pickle which is fine. Please take better care of your employees so they don't have to come into work sick. I should have just asked for a refund so I do blame myself but the cold side is annoying after spending money and tipping. read more

Decided to try curbside pickup for the first time today. Only to be disappointed. After placing our order, they sent us an email saying it would be ready in about 10 minutes. So, we headed out and arrived a little later than when it said it would be ready. We clicked the, "I'm here!" button and waited 25 minutes just for them to not come out. We pressed the button again- nothing. We called- no answer. We waited a few more minutes and called again. Someone finally answered and said they would go check and see if it was ready. I called and ordered ahead of time. Told whoever answered the phone, I'd be there in a half an hour. Got there, it wasn't finished, but they did charge me -- they got right on that part. Turns out my order wasn't even started because someone had told them to start in a half an hour. NOT WHAT I SAID. Stood there for awhile. Asked where my food was, three sandwiches couldn't take that much time. Told they hadn't started my order. Somehow it got lost, even though it wasn't too lost to charge me. Stood there some more. Asked again. Told they started it five minutes ago. What? Should be finished in ten. A girl was leaving and told me to order it online next time becauses there are people who didn't know what they were doing. How would that help people who didn't know what they were doing? So, stood there longer while everyone was coming and going. Asked again. The people in the back were chill. Two girlfriends came to see their boyfriends in the back. The front people were making drinks for themselves, and getting food. Mine wasn't there. Finally my order came up on trays. It was a to-go order. They took it back, but it took another ten minutes to wrap it. Why? Seriously, felt like the staff did not really care. Not their problem. Other people were frustrated too. Someone left. I had already paid. Didn't venture out to have to ask again and again for food. They did put a great deal of meat on our sandwiches, but nothing special, and the tomato & cucumber salad was a dab in the bottom of what was a small container to start with. It was more like relish. $44 + for very little, and treated like I was invisible. What? You want the food you ordered? So what. You gotta keep asking to get anything around here. There is no outdoor seating! We came to this location because on yelp it did say it had outdoor seating and we are traveling with our dog thought having a meal not in the car it would be a nice treat. Nice place, clean, but we noticed during ordering a loud static noise or something and the person taking our order at the counter had a hard time hearing what we were saying. As part of our order, we included a Reuben sandwich but when we arrived home, the Reuben was not in the bag. I hear people ask all the time "did you check your order before you left?" but ensuring the order Is correct and complete is the store's responsibility. I've never been to McAlister's before. Since everyone raves about it, thought I'd give it a shot. Food was good and I have no complaints there but the workers were seriously below subpar. I get it's restaurant work but I really expect actual customer service. The young man was rude and was clearly annoyed that it took us a few extra minutes to figure out what we wanted. Once ordering he continuously cut me off mid sentence and was extremely rude to my wife who didn't know the only two sizes the drinks came in. I am from St Louis so I was excited when McAlister's came to Kansas City. I was disappointed that ALL the empty tables were dirty. Even the ones that had no dirty dishes on them had not been wiped down. I had to get a napkin and do that myself. The salad and sandwich was spot on and were delicious. The McAlister's Deli location in Independence, MO was our destination following a visit to the Independence Shopping Center on a recent Saturday. Although they were quite busy, the line moved quickly and there is ample seating making this a handy place to get lunch. I enjoy many of their inventive combinations, but for this visit I decided on a Choose Two Combo with a cup of Broccoli-Cheddar Soup and half a Black Cherry and Ham Sandwich, which features Black Forest ham & Swiss with spinach, balsamic red onions and black cherry honey mustard on 9-Grain bread. It was savory and I enjoyed it very much. This is a clean, well organized space but it feels more crowded and confined around the front counter, to me, than the other location I've visited in Lee's Summit. However, they offer the same fresh tasting menu and efficient, friendly and helpful service, so it is a good place to visit when I find myself on 39th Street near the Center. read more

Went to this location tonight with my sister. We both cleaned our plates, I am sure we would have tried the carrot cake if we hadn't polished off our sandwiches so fast. My sis got the cob sandwich. It was yummy and the avocado was noticeably fresh! I ordered the horseradish roast beef and cheddar sandwich. I can't express how delicious it was. The roast beef was so tender and juicy, the bread was soft and warm, the horseradish wasn't too strong. We both had the Mac and cheese as a side, it was really creamy and perfect for this arctic cold weather. On top of that, the ladies working were very friendly and cleared our table for us immediately. They really seemed to be on top of the place. Honestly turned my okay day into an amazing one.
