Their food is really good. Their jerk chicken is on point. Well seasoned and grilled enough that the meat isn't burnt or charred and retains its moisture. The curry goat is good as well. My only gripe is that it would be better if the goat were cut into smaller pieces. Its $14 for a large. So yeah curry goat is getting more expensive. The macaroni salad is very good might I add. The vegetable rice is good as well. I did want to try their cook up rice but it ran out just as I got there. The cabbage could use a little bit more salt but it's good. I love their food and the owner is really nice. I recommend everyone I know to go here and they fall in love. I love their rice. Now when they were in the smaller spot they were fast as lightening. Best damn curry goat in Brooklyn hands down. I've never tried anything else but there are regular customers that order their "usuals" me being one of them. The nice lady behind the counter is very patient and helpful, the food is always hot and fresh (cold drinks available....try the pineapple orange ginger), restaurant is always spotless. There are seats available but very limited and people tend to take the food to go anyway. Did I mention the staff is amazingly nice? I used to really love food at McBeans. But today when I went to do my take out thang, they wanted to give me whole bunch of rice and a very small portion of the main dish I ordered which was curry shrimp. There are more smile on the website than at the actual restaurant. Everyone was serving as if they were scared to give you some food. Cashier/Owner had a tight mean face on so I guess that's why all the servers were looking scared. No one looked happy about the food or happy about serving the food. You can get a dollar cab in less than 10 seconds, but you might have to wait 15 min for folks to select and slice up the jerk chicken. It all balances out in the end. read more

I come here all the time for the $4 lunch special stew chicken, rice and beans and cabbage. Sometimes I pay $1 extra for extra plantain. The stew chicken is SO GOOD, though it can be a little too sweet at times. I've tried the oxtail once, and the curry chicken once, and they were nowhere near as good, both were average. So, the $4 lunch special stew chicken is always what I come for. I don't mind paying $5 for it when it's dinner because it's so good. Also, their red velvet cake is also very, very good, and the cheesecake is good. I'm going to try the key lime slices next. Oh, I've had bake with saltfish and calalloo as well as cornmeal porridge from here for breakfast. Both were just OK, definitely could be better. Back to the lunch special -- they act like they are doing me a favor by serving me the special! Almost irritated that that's all I want. If that's the case, then don't offer it or jack the price up. But if they do that, they'll get fewer customers for sure. Why do most of them have a bad attitude? There's one in particular, a lady with a screw face who is especially stingy with the food and never has anything pleasant to say. I had to beg to buy chicken -- bbq chicken alone -- at 8 p.m. one day because "they don't sell chicken like that." And then she went on. What kind of mess is this? I didn't argue about price, I just wanted to buy chicken alone because that it what the person who requested it wanted. And she made a big deal about it. Why? Was that necessary? The restaurant wasn't going to run out of chicken, and the place closes at 10 p.m. It was so silly. You get a sale, I get chicken. (The BBQ chicken was really good, though.) Basically, I come for the cheap meal and the cake, so I ignore the bad attitudes. But for real, they should cut the attitude and realize that it's a blessings that anyone is buying their food and bringing in good business. If many reviews say the same thing, then that's a problem. The Guyanese patties are good. The rest of the food is very basic. To me they put wayyyy too much ginger, ketchup and sweeteners in their food. They are very stingy with the plantain even when trying to order a side of plantain they give you like 2 for a $1 and they are very very tiny and flat. Sometimes they run out of sides during mid day and they don't compensate you for it you just have to take the loss. This used to be my spot for many years. Their prices are great at 5 dollars for a decent size container of food . I would usually just get their jerk chicken with the rice and peas or the lo mein . Their rice needs some work. They use a long grain rice and the taste just always seems off even when you bathe it in oxtail gravy. I think if they used a smaller grain and took out the coconut milk or whatever is their special ingredient in the rice it'll be a lot better. As for their jerk, it's pretty average. They are better than fisherman's cove jerk chicken in my opinion and other places nearby . Their chicken can be abit more moist and spicy for my liking as it definitely dries up on the grill . On my journey down Flatbush Avenue freezing, aching and having not eaten in days due to the flu's seizure of my appetite; I desperately search for soup. I look for something plain-looking with minimal ingredients as to not overload a rather sensitive nose and stomach. After looking for a Chinese Restaurant I stumbled upon this gem instead. I walk inside, and it's crowded but before I know it, I'm next. Looking at the Menu, I begin to roll my eyes as it simply says "Soup" (Very, very detailed). I lean closer to the server as ask "what kind of soup?" She says "Chicken" (OK...). I gently coax the rest of the ingredients out of her as to be sure there were NO PEAS OR BEANS. I had the unfortunate displeasure of purchasing food from this establishment this evening. I decided to try this neighborhood restaurant out for the first time. I ended up buying Oxtail w/Rice & peas and an order of Stew Chicken over Lo Mein. Everything looked delicious! When I got home and tasted the first piece of oxtail, I noticed that it had a weird taste and it immediately gave me heartburn. I decided to smell it and it had a weird licorice smell to it!! So I put that to the side and decided to taste the stew chicken meal. The stew chicken was okay, but the lo mein had an overpowering taste of ginger?! Poor customer service. I purchased soup for $8. Instead of telling me that they didn't have any more vegetables, they sold me broth with no vegetables for $8. I finally met the owner and told him what happened. He told me that I was not telling the truth and Im "trying to bring down his business". I went to buy a vegetarian dinner at 15 minutes before closing. They had no more vegetables, or salad. Instead of giving me a substitute, or lowering the price of the meal because they had no vegetables they tried to charge me full price of $11 for the meal of rice with gravy. Best jerk chicken I've had in the neighborhood. The line at fisherman's cove is always out the door, but I've never had to wait at Mc Beans and I think their food is better. The chicken is always moist, the cabbage side is so flavorful that I can't stop eating it. I try to limit myself to going once a week, but sometimes I can't resist coming back sooner. read more

I went there for my usual chicken roti because it's decent especially if Golden Krust runs out of roti skin which is waaaay better than theirs. I decided to order that and the tempting mac n cheese. Since I was starving and not in the mood to cook, I couldn't wait to throw down. Three words to describe the food: NO FLAVOR, WEIRD AFTER TASTE AND STINGY. The roti was hard and stale, the portion of chicken was very little, blah and for what I did taste, it was weird. I couldn't put my finger on what seasoning it was but it's nothing I've ever had.
