Drop off my daughter's car this morning for a major mileage service. I asked Conrad to check if the wiper blades needed to be replaced. When my daughter & I went to pick up the car, Conrad told us that it was just the standard service and the wiper blades were good. When we got home, my daughter said that Conrad is the coolest mechanic in Miami. She said that every time she takes her car to a mechanic in her hometown, they always tell her that something else is wrong. She said that she didn't think that the wiper blades needed replacing but any other mechanic would have replaced them and told her that she needed it. This place is amazing! I needed a few things fixed on my car and it was all fixed for an extremely reasonable price and everything was thoroughly explained to me. I needed my muffler fixed, and the owner was upfront and called me about going to a different garage to get it fixed because he didn't have the equipment, and said he could replace the whole thing, but I would end up spending a lot more. This is the best auto place. Im basically useless when it comes to auto issues, but cars tend to have problems and when mine has I've brought my car here. These guys have been SO helpful. They're respectful of my ignorance for car issues and so they spend the time making sure I understand what they're doing before doing it. I was a little aprehensive researching and taking my car to some unknown mechanic, especially since I am a recent NY transplant in Miami. Not only did Conrad provide excellent service, he remembered my name when I walked in, just from one phone call to inquire about his shop. I dropped by car off at 8:00am and had a phone call at 11:00am that my car's AC was up and running (not to mention cold again!) I apprecaited his honesty and very fair pricing! The most important thing to do whenever you're looking for a mechanic is to do research. Many of us are too caught up in texts and emails that we forget to make phone calls. And really, a couple of phone calls is all you need to find the best price. I recently made some inquiries on the cost of a timing belt change for my car. I had quotes from California, New Jersey, and several auto mechanics in Miami. A full timing belt repair doesn't just mean your timing belt is going to get replaced. There's a water pump, drive belts, tensioners, etc., that you'll have to contend with as well. I had an inkling of doing the repair myself, but the retail cost of dealer parts and the amount of labor involved on my part just didn't make it a wise choice. So here's a break down of quotes I received from auto shops across the country: Temecula, CA Agape Auto - $729 Temecula Honda (dealer) - $880 New Jersey Private Mechanic - $375 (parts only) + $100 labor (flat rate-family deal) Miami, FL All Import Tech - $740 Braman Honda (dealer) - $900 MC Auto Tech - $850 Living in different parts of the country has afforded me the opportunity to conduct a lot of research. I'm a little cautious when prices are too low or too high. $850 seems to be the mean for this repair. The New Jersey price was quoted to me by my cousin. He's a certified mechanic and I'll probably end up having him do the job. The only problem is that he's a Lexus/BMW mechanic so it'll take him a whille to familiarize himself with the engine layout of my car and I won't be receiving a price break on any of the parts. I was surprised by prices in Miami in that they weren't more consistent. I expected the dealer to have the highest price, but that's because the dealer is using genuine Honda parts. What surprised me is that MC Auto Tech's price was so close since they weren't using genuine Honda parts but OEM parts instead. Service is great and all but cost is more important. The most important aspect of a timing belt change is making sure that the gears are top dead center. Switching out the belts, seals, and pump takes about an hour or two. I enjoy conducting comprehensive searches, so acquiring as many facts and figures as possible is something I like to do. I hope that this "review" inspires you to do a little legwork before deciding on a mechanic. There are honest mechanics out there, but how honest is a mechanic if he's charging nearly as much as the dealer but isn't using dealer parts? First of all, I must say that this business is as good as it gets! The owner/mechanic Conrad is an awesome,personable guy. He tells you what needs to be done on your car. You will not feel the pressure of being upsold stuff that you do not need. He operates on the principle of honesty! You seldom find that trait here in Miami. Man I want to start by saying when you call this shop the owner Conrad picks up! He's a nice guy and even willing to set up an appointment with you. My car was acting weird and the push to start wasn't working properly. I got it towed to his shop. Then when we tried to start it, it worked perfectly. Instead of acting like I was crazy he took down my information and said he will test drive it, run diagnostics, and have his men look at it. After some hours he calls and says everything is fine and found nothing. Only thing is that in time I should change my AC compressor. I knew he was being honest because a few months prior I took it to a friends mechanics in Fort Lauderdale and told me the same thing. Conrad said "I didn't have to do much, so there's no charge." He's a big fan of UM students has his wife and two children both attended. He strikes me as an honest man and that is why I will go back to him. I've had two experiences with MC Auto Tech since moving to Miami. I had previously used a different local shop for service, but they ended up charging WAY too much for one service visit (I have no problem paying $40-100 for a standard "A" and "B" scheduled services from a private shop as opposed to "Jiffy-Line" type setups, but this was over $140 for what amounted to a tire rotation, oil change and inspection). Anyway, for my first visit to MC Auto, I took my 2007 Honda Odyssey in for a brake job. Conrad was personable and professional, and we got along great. When the brake job ended up including the rear brakes in addition to the front brakes (which was what the original phone quote was for), the job ended up costing exactly twice the quote, as would be expected. When I let him know I would be due for my 90,000 mile service, he grimaced, and informed me, in a "this may send you screaming to another shop" sort of voice that the job would include the timing belt and associated parts, which would push the entire service up to about $1200. I had already known about this, so it wasn't a surprise. Anyway, I checked around and his price was competitive (parts were a bit higher than some non-OEM parts, but they checked out based on quality and brand). I ended up going back to MCAT for the work. Unlike some reviewers, price is not the most important factor to me, service and trust are. So long as the price isn't wildly out of reason, I will gladly pay a bit more to a mechanic I trust. After both services, I started having issues with the master cylinder on the van (which is due to a recall issue). He recommended a dealership service center, since the recall would pay for that. When I voiced concern about the nearest dealership to me, he understood completely, having also heard some complaints about that center. He was able to recommend another dealership, about which he had heard no major complaints. If I had to voice one concern (not a complaint, just something I noticed), the only thing I can think of is that they seem to charge "flat rate labor" based on expected service time, rather than charging labor in real time. I understand, however, this can go both ways, and is the best way to keep quotes accurate. It is also fairly standard in today's world. In summary, I would say that Conrad seems like a legitimately nice guy, and didn't try to sell me on anything that wasn't a real issue with the van.He was up front with and true to his estimates. He also wasn't afraid to direct me to a dealership for something that would be covered by a recall. read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with MC Auto Tech. I brought my car in because the check engine light was on and I was about a week away from an 11 hour car ride. They called me and let me know that there were about a million things wrong with my car. I was quoted over $1500 to fix everything. I was kind of low on time and in a bit of a panic, but still on a budget, so I had my rear brakes done and nothing else. I had my mechanic back home look at everything I was told I needed fixed... Nothing urgent. MC Auto Tech told me I shouldn't drive my car at all unless I spent thousands. A year later and my car is still running smoothly. So if you're a girl with out of state plates and are a UM student, MC Auto Tech may not be best for you. read more

He is by far the best mechanic I've had over the years, and I recommend him to all my friends without reservation. MC Autotech does great work, Conrad (the owner) is an honest, decent man, who really cares about his customers. They also know their stuff. Even though the shop advertises specialties in foreign models, they were able to make timely repairs on my Dodge Intrepid, Ford Crown Victoria, and recently a Ford Windstar - better than the dealerships.
