Their rigatoni alla vodka and Mazza Salad are amazing. Everything else I've tried is pretty average. As far as atmosphere goes, it's very dated and underwhelming. First time eating their food, we ordered takeout due to COVID. I bought 2 entries and 3 kids meals and a loaf of bread. The total cost was $65!!! The portions were extremely small. Like I was shocked! The Alfredo was dry and lack luster not only was there hardly any sauce in there but it had no flavor, olive gardens is better, Mazza's was bland and I couldn't taste any flavor at all. The bread was the best part of the meal to be honest. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs, he said the meat was good but again hardly and sauce! I am sad because I love pasta and was happy to move to Mount Vernon knowing I would have a Italian place...I'm afraid to try this place again! Party of six Saturday August 22 at Mazzas at 6:00 pm and I am glad we didn't wait any later to eat because they got busy. We had 6 of the most fantastic Italian dishes that you could ask for anywhere, but we were at Mazzas and we had a fantastic experience. The meal was perfect from the appetizers to the main dish everyone was satisfied beyond their expectations. Not to forget our service was impeccable and the young lady who took care of our table made the experience extra special, especially the YELLOW nails. We've lived locally for a few years and only recently made it in for our anniversary. The food was great! There were a few service issues that were somewhat disappointing, but the overall experience is good enough that I'd try it again and then update this review if it were another positive experience. Maybe we were just there on an off night. We showed up early for our reservation and they took us right away which was cool. But that meant we were there prior to the dinner rush so we weren't sure why it took quite a while for our server to notice the two of us. She was apologetic so we shrugged it off. My husband ordered the beef sandwich and fries and said it was amazing. It did say that it was supposed to come with Mazza's salad and he did not receive that. But we were already feeling full so we didn't bother her about it. I ordered the Little Italy (manicotti, fettuccini, chicken parm). Chicken parm was crispy and yum, fettuccini was okay, definitely not enough sauce and the manicotti was cooked well, but very bland. The five cheese garlic bread that we split was tasty and their marinara was great. Although we probably wouldn't have ordered bread as an appetizer had the server informed us that they bring bread for the table, but that's not a huge deal. We had received an online offer for a free dessert for our anniversary so we tried to redeem that to go at the end of our meal. She brought us the chocolate torte right away, but we never did get the price adjusted on our receipt. She told us she had to get the manager to do it, then as he was clearing our plates we asked him about it and he said it was done, and when she brought us our final receipt it was still there. So at that point we were just like whatever and left. Chocolate torte was delicious later though. Gorgeous, romantic atmosphere (although paper on the tables is weird) and mostly delicious food. With slightly better service this would be five stars. read more

I've been to this establishment at least half dozen times since I've been in Mount Vernon. All offerings are excellent. I especially like the MASA salad with lots of Ghaaaaalic. So garlicky, it burns :-) absolutely delicious. If you'd like Italian fare, you will not be disappointed. read more

Drove to Mt. Vernon to have dinner with my Dad. Overall I think the atmosphere was nice and food was good. The Mazza house salad was extremely garlicky so make sure you really like garlic! I like garlic and could not eat it all it was so strong. I had eggplant parm and it was good. Offered my Dad his choice of dessert for free since it was his birthday, that was nice. Nice selection of beer and wine and few specialty drinks. Overall enjoyed my experience. read more

This past Sunday I wanted some mom/daughter time before she went back to school so since she missed our last visit to this establishment, I wanted her to see there is actually a great italian restaurant in our neck of the woods (she lives in new albany). We arrive after 1pm, it didnt seem very busy, parking is very convenient around the venue. No reservations so I was kind of worried about the wait as last time we visited, they had only been open a few days and they were busting out of their seams with customers with 1hr plus wait - which was awesome to see, but today we were told it would be atleast a 20min wait even though there were empty/set tables in both the dining and bar area. Disappointed in that. There happened to be a high top available to be seated right away so we went with that. The bartender was our server. There were a couple people at the bar and another high top. A different server was working the section next to the bar so I was really confused why it took the bartender almost 15min to greet us. When she did greet us it was pretty basic hi Im so and so, can I start you with some beverages. Being a new place and new customers - you would think she could be a little more personable maybe ask if we've been before or know the history- just maybe engage more on a personal level with customers especially when your not slammed and have the time. No specials were shared, not sure if they ever offer them, but even suggesting an item for an appetizer, meal or even drinks is a great way to upsale. Drinks were brought, my daughter chose a soda, I a glass of their house wine and it was another 15min before she returned for our order. I don't mind going slow paced but when the menus are sitting at the end of the table it is a gesture we are more than ready to order. I get 1 bartender making drinks but she really wasn't that busy to be ignored like that. We went with the mozzarella marinara for an appetizer - I was very impressed last time with the hand breaded/ golden deliciousness I could not pass it up on this visit either. For entrees my daughter chose the fettuccine alfredo add steak, I went with an old time fav chicken parm. Timing is everything when it comes to dining. I was hoping there wouldn't be a repeat of receiving all our food at once like we did before and really couldn't enjoy individual items. The wait time for our appetizer was not bad 10-12min. But the mozzarella stix were definitely overcooked. Super dark, crunchy, not the same ooey gooey golden fried cheese I had before. Made them seem like basic cheese sticks from a box. As I started to eat my first 1 - eh here comes our entrees. The presentation of our entrees was very lovely. Again, unfortunately my chicken was overcooked like the mozzarella. I know different cooks in the kitchen sometimes have their own ideas of how it should be but it needs to be consistent no matter who is in the kitchen. It is also the kitchen managers job/owner/servers/food runners job to communicate and make this happen when they see it. However, the chicken portion was huge, the alfredo portion was very minimal compared to it. I barely ate half the chicken and the first time ever had to order an extra side of alfredo to have with it later which I believe was still only half a cup. I had this entree my first visit and actually split it with my husband, so portion size does differentiate pending kitchen. The alfredo this time was not very flavorful, there was very little sauce so it was bland especially paired with the marinara and chicken. Even though the chicken was overcooked, it was delicious and would recommend this dish, just specifically request they do not overcook chicken. My daughters entree fettuccine alfredo add steak $5.95 upcharge was a huge serving in pasta, maybe half quart of alfredo but 5-6 very very thin slices of steak. I did not think it was worth the $17.90 and for about $6 I didn't expect a filet but I didn't expect so little meat either. As for atmosphere it was nice, relaxed.... until the owner, random servers, and who I took as a manager chose to stand at end of bar closest to our table to discuss schedules and such. Ugh! The owner did come by and ask how we were (my daughter is always mortified if I say anything good or bad so thankfully for her sakes I had a mouthful, just gave a thumbs up) With the experience of our last visit and the owner present - you can tell he is working hard to make this just as successful as his ancestors and I respect that. All in all I will definitely be back. Like I've said in other reviews I have years of experience in the restaurant business so I know it takes time to set ways. I have had completely 2 different experiences in both my visits but its still relatively new and once the kinks are worked out and consistency is set, I see it being a rock solid contribution to the area. We went here on a Sunday at noon. I haven't eaten at Mazza's for 25 years, and I was back in town for a day wanting to try the new location under new ownership. The service was decent, but everything else was just okay. The food took about 45 minutes to come out (our party was small and the place wasn't crowded). We actually had to ask the server where our food was, and within minutes it appeared. The food itself was mediocre at best (exception-the individual who got lasagna was very happy with their meal). Each meal cost @$15 plus the cost of a salad and a drink. Not expensive, but the value wasn't really there due to food quality and portion size. read more

Visited Mazza's for the first time and it was fantastic! I've lived in Mount Vernon for years but had never visited their previous location. My fiancé and I wanted to start off with a small order of the famous Mazza's Salad and our server brought out two bowls for us. Then we got an order of the Italian Chips and they were HUGE! They could be an entree in and if themselves! I highly recommend! Before we were even half way done with the chips, our entrees arrived. The Chicken Marsala was our favorite of the two but I also had to get Gluten-Free pasta on my dish, so I don't think it is a fair comparison. This restaurant is a great (re)addition to Mount Vernon and I'm sure it will be packed for months to come! read more

Feb 15, 2018 Had a wonderful dinner this evening. I had the French Onion Soup, Eggplant Parmigiana with Fettuccine Alfredo, my husband had the House Salad and Lasagna. The sauces are made in-house and they are fantastic. I was so happy that I decided against the steak. - walking into the restaurant you can smell the steaks cooking, I'll go back to try them another time. The wait staff was friendly and always had a smile on their face, service was very good, atmosphere was okay. The interior, although revamped for the newly opened restaurant, seemed "tired", The portion sizes were huge, lucky me- I enjoyed leftovers again today for lunch. Our wait time wasn't long, we were told 30 minutes, but doubt we waited ten minutes. Two thumbs up! Mount Vernon needed another restaurant, glad this wasn't another chain type. read more

My most recent take out from Mazza's wasn't bad, the server had my meal right there to the car at the specified time. The meal itself maybe sat around a little bit. I would have liked to see a sooner pickup time. The meal was tender and tasty. However that piece of veal could not have gotten any thinner. The pasta was good. read more

We got take out from mazza's..family package rigatoni arrabiaca . The whole process was excellent! We called in our order when we arrived a server came to the car to get our name. Server returned with credit card slip to sign and brought the order. Servers were wearing masks and gloves. The food was packaged well and hot when we arrived home. The salad was excellent as always..garlicky with blue cheese. The rigatoni was spicy with plenty of Italian sausage , roasted red peppers & lots of red pepper. Perfect for me too spicy for some. I had fettuccine, if it had sauce I was hard pressed to find it. The bread was good. I do NOT understand all the hoopla about The Mazza's salad. It's kinda wilted lettuce completely drenched in garlic and maybe some dressing? Not sure couldn't tell over all the garlic. I took one bite of the cannoli and almost spit it out. It was not good. I have heard a lot of great things about Mazza's since I moved to Mt Vernon a few years ago. I was excited to hear that they were going to reopen. I absolutely love Italian food and I am extremely picky. I tried it for the first time today and I was really impressed. The food was fabulous. We had Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti, and a House salad. You can tell their food is made from scratch including all of their salad dressings. The bread was amazing. Tiffany was our server and she was delightful. We will definitely be returning soon. read more

There's no place around like Mazza's! Where else can you addicted to salad, huh??? :) Our last visit was 3 days ago. My adult son, a friend and I went. The food is very consistent.... in other words, delicious as usual! The others ordered mussels and said they were fabulous ( I don't care for them and got my usual giant Mazza's Salad with extra blue cheese!) We had our usual Zucchini Fries, which I always want more of even though the portion was plenty for the 3 of us. (I hear from a good source that Mr. Mazza can't get enough of them either.) If you haven't tried them, DO! They're incredible by themselves and even better with the dipping sauce. We had a drink here for the first time. My margarita was outstanding and I'll have another next time I go. Dessert was out of the question... we were all stuffed! During these crazy COVID times, there will be bumps in the road at any establishment and I'm sure Mazza's is as short-staffed as everyone else. While it does show that there is some inexperience in the staff, Mazza's is still more than a WONDERFUL place to go! read more

Fantastic experience here, the only downside was the famous Mazza salad. It was heavily prepared with the garlic and cheese, very little dressing. We tasted that garlic well into the next day even after brushing. Everything else was fine. read more

Ok this is going to be a bit rosey... just because Mazza's was my first DINE IN sit down being served meal since March 2020 when the world turned topsy turvy. I actually got a bit emotional. That said, we ordered appetizer calamari to start off...it was just right with what may have been homemade ranch to dip it in.. we scarfed it down. Yum! You HAVE to get Mazza's salad and it was just as good as I remember it being in the 80s. I got eggplant Parmesan and my brother got fettuccini Alfredo which he added chicken to. Both very good... bigger than we could eat so we both took home leftovers. So not only was it as good as I remember and allowed me to relive fond memories but it was was delicious today and that made me happy read more

We were staying in Mt Vernon for the weekend and decided to try this place. I used the online reservation and we were seated immediately on a Saturday evening. Husband and I split a large salad and the chicken parm because the helpings were quite large. We had plenty to eat! We went there on March 25,2019 and after having some concern from reading many reviews, we went with our group anyway. All 12 of us had fantastic meals...no complaints from any of our group. Great bread, Mazza Salad and the main courses. I had the Chicken Marsala and it was fantastic. Even better was my side of Alfredo, and at no extra charge like most Italian restaurants. It was the best I've had anywhere. My wife has never had better Chicken Parmigiana. Large, moist and tender. Some of the reviews talked about servers who never smile and who were inept. Our waitress took care of all 12 of us and never missed a step. She was wonderful, efficient and very friendly and a young, expecting mother of her third child. My only regret is that it's a 40 minute drive from Mansfield so we probably won't be going back EVERY week... but will be going back very often. read more
