Amish Country at its best!…read more This is a gem of a restaurant. We found this place thanks to the great reviews on Yelp. We were not familiar with Baltic, Ohio, yet we were so happy we found this place. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, it felt like we were eating in someone's home. Christian, the manager, could have not done anything more to accommodate us. He really went out of his way to enhance our experience. Our waitress, Arlene, had told us she had been there for several years and you could really tell this by her ability to help us through the menu. She wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied. The menu was one like I had never seen before. Everything from a large breakfast selection to Wagyu and Prime steaks. I had the best Ruben sandwich I had ever eaten ( that is saying a lot). We also shared the Wagyu filet with hand cut fries and sweet potato fries. The steak was sautéed with fresh mushrooms and onions. The steak was seasoned to absolute perfection. You have to try this. I have posted pictures of the menu. Don't forget a side order of homemade mac & cheese. Their prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of the food and the impeccable service. The decor is perfect. Simple yet very pretty. They even have a nice area (living room style) that we hung out in until our table was ready. This Amish restaurant is the "best of the best". I will be back in this area next year and will be sure to make this my go to restaurant. Bravo to the staff and chef, well done.

Pork chop was cooked alright, but definitely needed a sauce to add some flavor as it was bland. Coconut mango rice was sad (my wife is filipino so she knows a bit about rice, mangoes, and coconut). This is not a fancier restaurant that serves wagyu, why can you not figure out how to price half of your meats? Service = Good with no problems. Restaurant = Stylish, Spacious, and Clean.

The Three Cheese Grilled Cheese had an insane cheese pull and was loaded with melty, delicious cheese. The tater tots were surprisingly flavorful, seasoned with a unique blend that definitely had onion and a hint of garlic, along with other spices I couldn't quite identify--but they were fantastic! The Mouthful definitely lives up to its name. It's huge, incredibly filling, and absolutely worth ordering if you're hungry. To top it all off, we tried the crème brûlée for the first time ever, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. It was delicious and made for an awesome first experience with the dessert. Overall, South Street Grill exceeded all expectations. It does get busy, which isn't surprising considering how good the food is, but it's easy to get to and well worth the wait. Well, last week I re-visited my favorite restaurant in celebration for our daughter passing a…read morecertification exam. We started with the Bread Service which was a wonderful contrast to our last visit of the red cornbread. It wasn't a typical Focaccia as it was a crusty mini bread loaf topped with a sea salt I believe. The butter seemed standard noting it was listed as cultured sea salt butter;however the Housemade Ricotta, Strawberry Red Pepper Jam in the mini jar was spectacular. I didn't find any notes of strawberries but it had cherry tomatoes, whole garlic and olive oil in it. We weren't asked for our drinks request so we stuck with water(small oversight). Interestingly, our server came back to our table and said that she didn't have the beer available that I wanted. First, I never ordered a beer and not asked and second, I don't drink. So now, our appetizers arrive. The Carolina Squash Blossom was okay, but I'll pass as the crunchy texture was odd and there wasn't much blue crab present. The Calamari Fritti was definitely not popular with my family. The dish included Jimmy Red Corn Meal Dusted Crisp Calamari & Fried Green Tomatoes, Crumbled Goat Cheese, Crisp Ramps, Calabrian Chili-Sorghum Aioli. Despite the appealing ingredients the dish really lacked seasoning and salt. My grilled 16 oz bone in pork chop came pre-sliced which I've never had done with a pork chop but plated well. It came with purple cabbage purée and a sweet and sour root vegetable that tasted just like mashed sweet potatoes. The dish included ramps that seemed fried but really not edible. The application of this wild leek didn't seem to fit the dish as it was very coarse. My wife enjoyed her New York Strip Steak topped with Rock Lobster and a side of Gnocchi & Parmesan Crème. My college daughter ordered the New York Strip Steak also but her was extremely over salted. They re-fired a slightly smaller steak and that came out perfect and delivered by the Chef apologizing. Service recovery goes a long way and they redeemed themselves with dessert. Thanks for converting my opinion as 50% of my review and experience is based on service and or service recovery. We will be back definitely.

Not stellar, but usually a good rotating variety of healthy meals; from my personal experience, they try to be super cognizant of dietary restrictions, so there's something for everyone. Highly recommend Grilled Cheese Monday (Texas toast, bright orange cheese slices and all) and the sweet potato fries. They have a surprising variety of aiolis that are delish. Good dessert section, too--the pumpkin bread and molasses cookies are must-tries. Can't speak to the goat tacos, but I've heard they're hyper-local (born and assassinated on Kenyon's very own farm). Piercegiving and Midnight Breakfast are most definitely the highlight of every Kenyon student's experience. The icecream tower (housed in a literal kiddie pool) most likely was vetoed post-Covid, but by god, it was excellent. The staff are super kind to students and work incredibly hard to keep Pierce running. They keep ingredients fresh and local--love that!!

"Fried Bologna, World Affairs, and One Legendary Brad"…read more Longer review but wanted to share. Traveling through central Ohio, I decided to detour for something unique--and landed at Homestead Family Restaurant in Fredericktown. I walked in around 7:30 AM and immediately spotted a table of 8-10 older gentlemen who looked like they were actively solving the world's problems. (Global warming? Inflation? Or just the eternal question of whether the Buckeyes will ever win big--hard to say.) The place oozes classic small-town America charm. I parked myself at the big U-shaped counter, and before I could even think about coffee, a hot cup appeared in front of me. Service here is fast, friendly, and so welcoming it feels like they've known you for years--even if you just rolled in off the road. The menu had those retro comfort food gems you rarely see anymore. And there it was: Fried Bologna Omelet. Pennsylvania has scrapple. Hawaii has Spam. Southern Ohio has Goetta. Central Ohio? Central Ohio proudly waves the fried bologna flag. I ordered the Bologna Omelet with fried potatoes, plus a biscuit with sausage gravy (because if you say no to sausage gravy here, you'll probably get escorted out). The food was very good. Potatoes could've used a little more time in the pan (maybe par-boiling first), but hey--still plenty tasty. For the "tribe," I grabbed: Breakfast Bowl (potatoes, eggs, American cheese, topped with sausage gravy--basically edible joy). Sausage Biscuits and Gravy (aka, double-down on gravy, because life is short). Everything hit the spot. The place is neat, the food hearty, and the service top-notch. But here's what really made the stop unforgettable: Brad. Brad is a local legend and was celebrating his birthday that morning. He sat next to me, gave me the lowdown on the town, and greeted everyone like the unofficial mayor of Fredericktown. The entire restaurant seemed to be there for him. Brad is a kind, gentle soul--the kind of person who makes you think, "You know what? This world really does need more Brads." Final Thought: Homestead Family Restaurant isn't just about good food (though the fried bologna omelet and sausage biscuit & gravy are worth the trip). It's about community, character, and the people who make small towns special. If you're in the area, stop by. Even if you're not hungry, you might meet Brad--and trust me, that's better than dessert.
