Haven't eaten here in many years and it was under different ownership and name back then. Popped in early Friday evening for a quick bite and while we didn't try anything complex, the smash burgers were quite good. I had a substitute half Caesar salad that was very tasty. The fries that came to the table looked good but I didn't eat any. As it was early in the evening there was a good ratio or servers to diners but the kitchen was still a bit slow on orders. To get drink refills we had to get the attention of our server but she was prompt and friendly when we did. As stated, place was perhaps half full but the setting was nice and the doors to the patio were open with the nice weather. I would recommend for a quick bite or for a larger group looking for a bigger meal, drinks and the live music. I've already recommended it to others. If you're in Howard you have to go to the Bad Apple Pub. Located a few miles east of Mount Vernon, it's the best known place in the Apple Valley region. This place is pretty quiet during the week. It gets busy on weekends because of the campers and tourists coming around. They have good drinks here and typical bar food. I was coming here from Mount Vernon and had to stop in to see what it was about. It happened to be a Saturday that Ohio State football was playing. This place was packed and extremely loud, so needless to say this isn't a good place for fans of that other team. It has a huge TV for game days. The service was okay if a little slow to be expected, so they won't get crapped on for that. I had a vodka and tonic at the bar. It's about $3 so it's quite cheap. The food options include pizza, which we didn't want since we already had some from Nancy Maria's. It probably would have taken forever. Other food options include typical stuff like wings. It's a must stop if you're in the area. Go when it's not so busy. The bar is pretty roomy when it's not crammed with Buckeye fans. read more

Visited 4/16/2024, Sat at the bar and ordered the walleye fish and chips. I chose sweet potato fries as a substitute. My fish and fries were overcooked. The server asked how my meal was and I said it was dry and overcooked. She did nothing or said anything about rectifying the situation. So I paid my bill, left a tip, and left the establishment. This was my first and last visit here. They claim to have craft beer, but a very limited selection. I was very disappointed, since this restaurant wants you to make reservations for bar food. I think the only reason they get so busy is because it is convenient for Apple Valley. read more

Gave this place a shot... let's just say I may need to give it a second chance and NOT get the tacos OR "queso". My first time was HORRIBLE. The food was subpar at best. Ordered the nachos with queso... I don't know what that was but it's not queso. We ended up asking for a side of queso thinking the kitchen made a mistake (our waitress was kind but she did not know the menu at all, so we didn't complain to her at all...). Other than not putting hardly any cheese or "queso" on the nachos there was no mistake on their end. The queso was a brown runny sauce, definitely a smoky meat based sauce, not a cheese queso dip. The tacos were terrible; I thought the Tuesday deal sounded like a good deal - and the tacos described sounded too good not to try - but when the tacos arrived it was clear I made a mistake. The shells were nearly empty, hardly any contents AND missing contents from the menu description. The tortillas were "fresh" out of a plastic bag not heated, treated or prepped in any way. Lastly, they broadcast Tuesday as tacos and trivia night; we noticed a decent crowd arriving ... yet they were missing plenty at the bar (seltzers and other drinks) and again, the Tacos ... ugh. Pretty good place overall, really good place for Howard, Ohio. Bar/restaurant usual. Burgers, wings, ribs, even meatloaf. I was happy to see that an order of Mozz. Sticks meant more than 5 of them. The place is pretty clean, with all the regular beer choices. In fact this the only place I've found craft beer in Howard. Service has always been good too. So, they'll keep getting some of my money. read more

We had the Fish & Chips tonight, and it was delicious! That fish is amazing! We also like Wings, so we tried an order of Parmesan Garlic Wings, and they were not cooked enough and they had a taste we have never tasted before, so we didn't eat them. I am a "local" Apple here, so I visit this place often! My favorite are the French fries! Just like homemade! I also enjoy the wing night on Wednesdays. I usually dine earlier than most, so the noise is limited a bit. Otherwise, since it is a pub atmosphere, the music is a little on the loud side, if you want to have conversation during dinner (which most people do). I would recommend moving the pool table elsewhere as it is very distracting to diners. Otherwise, the waitresses are very attentive and friendly, and I have never had a "wrong" order. I also enjoy seeing all the neighbors in AV while there. Whether having a full meal, appetizers or just coffee and chatting one is treated very good. Unfortunately for us, we stumbled upon The Bad Apple for lunch after a weekend get away. Despite the signs stating the current mandate regarding COVID-19 precautions on the entrance door, none of them were followed. Not one employee or patron ( aside from us- one of whom is pregnant) was wearing a mask. Our server forgot I had ever ordered a beer- and never came to check on us after she took our order. We had to flag her down to get our bill. She did however, seem to get some good phone use in next to the bar. Aside from the typical average bar food and terrible service the biggest disappointment was zero compliance for COVID-19 guidelines. The bar patrons and bartenders even ridiculed us for wearing masks. Would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is definitely our favorite restaurant in Howard, and possibly our favorite in all of Mt. Vernon area as well. They have a fairly large menu. They have specials Monday through Friday, and we especially like the perch dinner on Fridays. Their pretzels & cheese appetizer is amazing! Some of our other favorites are their burgers w/subbed pretzel buns, club sandwich, spicy cheese and bacon dawg, chicken tenders, coleslaw, cottage cheese, and bread pudding bites. The only thing we've ever had from there that was just okay was their pizza, and that's probably cause there are other great pizza places around. They're similarly priced to an Applebees. It's nice to have a consistently good restaurant in The Valley. I don't believe they have steak, and that's one thing I'd love for them to add to their menu. read more

The restaurant and bar part are literally not even a wall apart. The music was so crazy loud on the restaurant side you couldn't even speak to each other with out yelling. Now the food. Nothing to write home about. I ordered French onion soup and it barely had any cheese on it. Maybe a quarter of a slice. And everyone KNOWS what makes French onion awesome is the bowl is COVERED in cheese. If your cooking it you should know the proper way to serve it. Service, eh, running back and forth between "restaurant" part and bar. With only one or 2 servers. Needless to say we didn't see her much. She tried. She just couldn't be every where at once.
