The San Bruno Mazra is finally reopened after extensive renovations. It's beautiful, and the food/beverage matches! I was greeted warmly and given the option to dine in or at the outdoor patio. It was a warm day, so I opted for outdoors. There are laminated menus at the front entrance that you can review. At the tables are napkins and utensils in a can and a little sign with a QR code. It states on the sign that you can scan the QR code and place your order through the site OR you can place your order with the cashier. I found the QR site, using my phone, was very easy and allowed for detailed selections and options. I ordered the raspberry lemonade and steak plate with my 2 side choices of garlic potatoes and Fire roasted vegetables. The plate meal also comes with rice, pita bread and 2 little cups of dipping sauces. The raspberry lemonade was served soon after my order and this was the real deal. It was delicious! My meal came and everything was cooked perfectly with such wonderful seasoning. The staff were all very attentive and checked in with me periodically to ensure I was enjoying my meal and whether I needed anything else. It's just a little different to have prepaid with my order placement...you feel like you're dining and dashing by just getting up and leaving. Rest assured though, the service and meal was so good, I would never hesitate to prepay and add the tip. The only limitation here is the parking. A few spaces in front and I later discovered a small lot behind off the side street on the north side. I just parked down the street in the neighborhood and it was a short walk for a great meal. We've been regulars ever since they first opened during covid, ordered many different dishes and always delux kebab platter for takeout. Food was always supperb as well as its quantity. With years prices went up, which is understandable, but quantinty and flavors of food was always the same. This time after they reopened we were excited to order the delux platter for takout and what a dissapointment it was. Flavors were completely different, since its no longer cooked on an open wood flames, there is complete lack of that grill flavor, spices also very off. Shrimp kebab was overly salted and mushy, lamb chops were very gamey, cubes ansmd kofta were super dry. Rice and side dishes were still as good though. Size of a platter is good 40% less than it used to be. There was plenty of rice but meats were cut in pretty much half. Its not nearly enough to serve 5 adults and before the same 5 adults were not able to finish a whole platter. Very dissapointing. read more

If you're looking for delish Middle Eastern food from Lebanon, Mazra is your joint. Especially if you're coming with a group or are looking for a chill but joyous place to be. The vibe is communal and their neon lights give their open-window concept a young and lively feel. There are a few outdoor seating options if you're looking to conversate with less noise or if you bring a dog. Parking is rough, since there's a tiny lot, and most people find street parking as they're located in a busy residential area. BUT once you turn the corner, you KNOW it's Mazra from their delicious grilled meats smoke in the air. Their menu is easy to maneuver, tons of laminated copies so you can peruse while you're waiting in line because there most certainly is always a line that moves quickly. You order and pickup at their food window when your pager beeps. We loved their famous 6hr lamb plate which is 1000% fall-off-the-bone-tender, and is in a tomato-based sauce that is divine. Their rice steals the show, SO tasty. Veggies SO fresh, we got their potatoes and roasted veg which were the perfect bite. Their street fries with oyster mushrooms was too cold in temp and their fries were so good they truly hold their own as a side. I felt like we could've skipped it since we did have fries as a side, and that was enough. There's serve-yourself to go containers which we definitely used. Water is serve yourself, and I almost forgot that the pineapple cantelope juice was so refreshing and not too sweet. I love that there's always a sprig of mint in drinks. Long overdue review! When I used to work in SSF, my coworkers and I would be coming to Mazra either for lunch or dinner multiple times. In fact, my partner showed me this place during one of our first dates (and we got it for take out) Mazra is a total hit with the savory and flavorful food they have here. I have all the heart eyes for the double kebab plate. My musts are the lamb and beef with hummus. It's ridiculous how delicious the food is here. Park in the parking lot to see them work their magic on the grills. Service here is always friendly and quick, even when it's super busy. Sheik Your Heart Opened since March '20 (oy gevalt...) from the owners of the now defunct Green Valley Market (RiP), this family-run establishment serves up some authentic fire-kissed Middle Eastern cuisine in a fast-casual environment. For being open for such a realitively short amount of time, Mazra has earned some high-accolades as many revere them as the best Middle Eastern food in the The Bay, and they've even earned an impressive #2 spot in the Yelp 2021 Top-100 Restaurants in the US. They're going to be soon opening a 2nd location in Redwood City, but that won't be until early next year ('24). The Good: *Fast casual (pay & order at the register then pickup after), which is one of my favorite restaurant types. *Service was very friendly and fast *Décor is IG friendly with lots of spots for selfies and nice backgrounds. *Housemade Mint Lemonade was fantastic and well-balanced, so all the flavors were present. *Falafel Mezza sampler was worth every penny, and all the dips were delicious. My only complaint was the rice in the dolmas seemed a bit too al dente for my liking. *Halloumi Street Fries were everything they advertised themselves to be and then some. *Halloumi Cheese Rolls were a clever sweet and savory take on the classic Asian fried eggs rolls, as the concomitant honey topping really put them over the top. *Carissa really enjoyed her Grilled Salmon Plate, as she was pleasantly surprised at how crisp the skin was on the salmon. *Lamb Shank was tender, unctuous, and well-spiced. We came here two evenings in a row last weekend with friends who were visiting from out of town and were thoroughly satisfied with everything we ordered. Their halloumi cigar rolls come with a honey sauce - haven't seen that combo before but it's SO good. The fattoush is SO SO SO fresh from the produce to the crispy pita crunch on top. I came here on a Tuesday evening and it was CRAZY busy!!! This is clearly a popular spot to bring coworkers or friends after a workday. Very trendy interior and you can see them grilling the kebabs in the back. My interest was primarily on the Garlic Rotisserie Chicken Plate. For $18, this was an incredible deal - any two sides with a huge platter of rice and half a chicken. The chicken itself was juicy and very flavorful! It wasn't too garlicky either. You can smell the deliciousness that is Mazra as soon as you pull into the parking lot. Stopped by for a late Friday afternoon lunch and it was very lively in there! You order at the counter, they give you a buzzer, and you have the option between dining in or enjoying the sun on the patio. I can see that being challenging on a busy weekend. They have 1 large table in the middle of the restaurant for a big group, looks like it has to be reserved ahead of time. For food, I tried the falafels, stuffed olives, and street kofta wrap. Everything was so tasty. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I loved pairing that with the chili sauce they had (not spicy). The street wrap was loaded with sauce and veggies and is huge! Could easily be split for two and it's a good size lunch. I would probably skip on the olives next time. They were good but nothing extraordinarily. Mazra had a ton of staff working. Bbq grill going in the back parking lot, hustling to bust tables, and keeping the operation flowing smoothly. Very lively and spacious place - very busy - somewhat bustling. And little did I know, that this place is rated outside of yelp with many 'recognitions/awards'. After that night - said parentals introduced this establishment to their other relatives who also really like the food - however one couple already knew the owners eons ago. My office crew and i came here for my bday right after work and the place was packed and it was as busy as an amusement park. Getting parking is hard here, getting a table is even holder. You order at the front and they give you a buzzer when your food is ready. To get a table, you have to wait for someone to leave and do the amazing race to grab it. So if you have a big party, this is gonna be hard. We needed at least 2 tables for us so be prepared to sit apart. I got the lamb dish and beef and i got to pick any two sides. I wish i got the potatoes but i picked two different dips. The beef and lamb was good but lamb was more tender. I never had such tender lamb in my life. You know, I never thought I'd ever say anything negative about Mazra, but it looks like I do - them closing until December 2024 for renovations is really annoying. In part because it makes the timing of this post a little awkward (I knew I should've posted this a few weeks ago...), but mostly because my friend and I were supposed to come here yesterday! Ugh...and I had such a huge craving for their street wraps too! Ever since my first visit to Mazra, I've been in love with everything about this place. The outdoor seating is great, the overall vibes are super chill, all of the workers are very nice, and, most importantly, the food is amazing. The menu looks somewhat standard at a glance - they've got your usual sort of mezzas, wraps, salads, and kebab plates. However, a deeper look reveals its far more interesting than it appears - "street" wraps and fries, wood fried plates with proteins like grilled duck and branzino, garlic rotisserie chicken, 6-hour lamb shanks, octopus kebabs, arayes, and so much more. Even after just a few bites of trying everything, I already knew multiple return trips were going to be in order! -- STREET WRAP with Chicken Shawarma, Fries, Tzatziki Sauce, Tomato, Pickles, and Onions...$14 It wouldn't be an understatement to say this was one of the best wraps I've had. The chicken was very flavorful with a slight char, the fries were still crisp (at the start, at least), and the veggies were all so fresh! Plus, I loved how the pita wasn't overly bready/thick. -- STREET FRIES with Halloumi, Fries, Tazatziki Sauce, Tomato, Pickles, and Onions...$14 Exactly what loaded/nacho fries elsewhere could only hope to be. The kofta was really juicy, the chunks of chicken were moist, the rice was soft, and I loved all of the vegetables. As for the sides, I still like the hummus best, but the baba ghanoush wasn't too shabby either! -- RASPBERRY LEMONADE...$5 Of their rotating selections of juices and lemonades, this is my favorite. I've had it twice now and, both times, it was refreshing, not very tart, and not too sweet either. Their fresh cantaloupe juice is pretty good as well, but I'd opt for this one if I had to choose between the two. As delicious and amazing as Mazra clearly is, possibly the most surprising thing about my trips here is that, despite how popular they are, we've never had a problem snagging a table. Parking is similarly easy for the most part (they have two small lots, but there's decent street parking around), but despite how they usually have a (small) line, we've always been able to get seats immediately. Of course, it helps that they have a lot of tables, including a few that are perfect for larger groups. Between how good the food is, how nice the staff is, and just how convenient everything else has been, the closest thing I've had to a problem is finding a way to try everything I want to try on the menu. Even after making a handful of trips, it feels like I've only made a dent! I guess this is just going to be an ongoing challenge that I'm more than happy to take on! I wanted to try Mazra because of good reviews and ratings. I placed an order pickup and arrived around 3pm, the restaurant was almost empty. Since it was my first time I didn't know there was a separate window for pick up orders. I got there and I was kinda standing inside, near the door, hoping somebody could help me with my pick up order. There were 4 servers working, whom I made eye contact with every single person, multiple times. Nobody offered to help or asked me if I need something. Servers just looked at me standing and went on their way. I stood at door for about 10 minutes with no one acknowledging me. I didn't want to interrupt their work so I decided to wait politely. But nobody was giving a shit, even tho they were standing two feet from me lol Finally a one woman server helped directing me to pick up window. Again, the restaurant was not busy at all. Idk if I was a young asian woman ‍ I hope they could train their servers to be more helpful and professional. read more

Updated review: Knocking 1 star off that 5 star. The first time we dined in here was in 2021. I absolutely loved the food, like every single thing I ate was delicious. Even when we can't go to the location, we'd have food delivered to our doorstep. Unfortunately, we had one bad instance with the food delivery in 2022 and so we did not go nor ordered online the entire 2023. Last week, we had a chance to revisit the place. They made a lot of changes. The kitchen is now bigger, the indoor seating area became smaller, the limited parking space became even more limited with the grilling taking some space at the back. Finding a spot to park is a pain in the a**. We went for early dinner to beat the crowd and ordered the following - Beef Kofte Wrap - while I liked the protein itself, they put too much pickles that most bites end up being too acidic. I don't know if they were just extra sour that day because it was too much for me. Also, gone is the lavash bread in their traditional wrap, now they use regular pita wrap which was not totally bad but given the option I'd choose the former. Whole cauliflower - this was "crispy" cauliflower and purple in color before. Now they just call it whole cauliflower and use a regular head. The tahini was too acidic, I squeezed some lemon on my first bite so I thought I put too much but the next one was already sour on its own. Chicken rotisserie plate - this is traditional roasted chicken done right. It was juicy, moist and flavorful. I like how they put some love and attention in making rice because it was not just a mere accompaniment, it was fluffy, soft and seasoned. Overall, it's nice to see Mazra continue making a buzz in the food world. They try to accommodate their ever growing patrons by making the kitchen bigger and opening a second location very soon. I just hope as they continue making changes, they do not sacrifice taste because even if parking and seating can be challenging, the food is what makes people want to come back. read more

My husband and I swung by Mazra on our way to our way through SF on our honeymoon. The food here is as good or better than the reviews suggest! I'll admit it was a Friday night and I did feel stressed when I showed up and saw the crowd lined up to order as well as every table completely full. That being said, the table turnover works out well with the ordering line and there is a server dedicated to placing you at a table once one is available. My anxieties were eased when our food came and we were ushered to a table. Now about the food- some of the best Mediterranean I have had in the bay area! We ordered way too much food and overate, but it was worth it. We ordered fries, tzatziki, pita, hummus, double beef kabob and chicken kabob combos. Parking is difficult here and we showed up on a Wednesday around 5:20p. It's very busy and rightly so! The food was delicious we got 2- 2 kebab plates with baba ganoush, dolmas, Arab salad, and pickled veggies. Everything was as expected and better, very bright. Prepare to be hungry. I love Mazra! I was initially drawn to the restaurant by the positive reviews and pictures of their food. I'm now hooked and can say the food and the customer service is amazing as well. Even with the large influx of customers, one of the cashiers remembered us from our visit months ago. You also see both the owners check-in on customers while they are bouncing between the kitchen and the floor. For our recent visit, we came 10 minutes before it opened and there was already a line waiting outside of the door. Within an hour of opening, inside was packed. Which means a lot of people love Mazra too. As for food, we loved the Falafel Mezza Sampler and Whole Cauliflower to share. I've only heard good things about Mazra so I had to check it out and it definitely did not disappoint! I came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and it was packed! The restaurant has a chic, outdoor patio feel with a live dj/music! I loved the decor and lights as well and it was overall very welcoming. However, we decided to take it to go, but I do think it would be even better if we had dined in. Regardless, the food was super tasty and overall would recommend to anyone looking for a good lunch/dinner option in San Bruno! I ordered the double kebab plate with chicken and beef and both were full of spices and flavor that went well with the rice, onions, and other veggies that it comes with. It also comes with 2 sauces (a garlicky sauce and a hot sauce), pita bread, and the choice of 2 sides. I got the hummus and arabic salad, and also tried the baba ghannoush (eggplant dip) and tzatziki (dill dip). The best Mediterranean food I've had in a while!! Do yourself a favor and come check this place out. My friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Friday night around 7:15 and it was hopping. They have two small parking lots, one in the front and one in the back, but given how popular this place is, chances are you'll have to find residential street parking nearby. It was our first time here, so we were a bit confused by how it works. You first get in line to order, and after ordering, you put your name down on a list, and one of the employees will help you find a table. You have to pick up the food yourself when the buzzer goes off. In fact, most of the experience is self serve. You have to grab your own water and cutlery as well. Decor was super cute. In addition to a lot of hanging plants, they also had lights up so it looked quite festive. The menu is pretty straightforward with two pages. It's a very meat heavy menu but they do have some options for vegetarians as well. I wanted to try their lamb shank, but sadly they were already out by the time I came. I got their lamb chop plate ($30) with sides of garlic potatoes and roasted veggies instead. My friend ordered half a garlic rotisserie chicken a la carte ($12) and was told it was their last one for the night, so definitely come early before they start selling out. The food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait! The lamb chops were grilled perfectly and had a lot of flavor. They went really well with the flavored rice and the garlic sauce. Definitely the best lamb chops I've had in a long time, possibly ever. My friend really enjoyed his rotisserie chicken as well, and I totally get it. Every bite was tender and flavorful, and I was surprised by how moist even the breast meat was. You have to go outside through their back parking lot to get to the bathroom, but I'm glad I did as you get to walk by their grill area and watch them grilling the skewers. Looked super legit. Mazra never disappoints, and I came back for one last meal before they closed temporarily for renovations. I love the lamb and rice, and the garlic sauce is always a good addition. I came by yesterday with a group of friends not knowing it was their last day. It was my first time visiting as I was really in the mood for shawarmas. There was a long line out the door to order and parking was a nightmare. I drove to the back lot and there was a traffic jam with people unreasonably trying to turn into the packed lot and people exiting the lot thinking they could go against the flow of traffic on a narrow street with enough space for only one car to pass. If you see backed up traffic, use some logic and turn in the direction the cars are facing and not against traffic. Smh. Some drivers were also not confident about making turns and got stuck. A worker eventually came out to help direct traffic. I didn't want to deal with the lot so I just drove past and parked on another street further away. So we lined up and it was a 30 minute wait to order. Once we got to the cashier, it turns out they were out of a lot of things! I was shocked. About half the menu was out, including half the shawarmas. I settled for a beef shawarma, halloumi, and baklava trio. They said they are usually well stocked but since today was their last day, they were out of a lot of food. Makes sense. The halloumi ($9) was really good with honey. It's cheese deep fried with spices sprinkled on top. The honey brings out the spices wonderfully and it was a hit at our table. Make sure to eat it while it's still hot! The beef shawarma was really small and dry. For $13, I expected better. It was so dry, I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The beef was overcooked, the shawarma was plain tasting, and the portion was overall very small. The small portion seems to be a common complaint. I would skip this item on the menu to be honest. In fact, I would skip all the shawarmas if they are all this small. I ended up taking it home and adding things to it to doctor up the dry beef. If you must get it, I recommend picking up their garlic based sauce to give it some much needed flavoring. It does come with 2 sides and I choose roasted veggies and roasted potatoes. Unfortunately, one of my potatoes was undercooked but it was still served to me. It was the only potato uncut as well. I wonder why... /s The roasted veggies meant roasted "veggie." It was only broccoli. This entree is a huge miss. My friend got their lamb plate for $30 and it looked much better than what I got. But we thought the price was high for the amount of food received. The baklavas were tiny! I have never seen such small baklavas. It was rolled instead of flatly cut out. For $8, you get a trio of Nutella, pistachio, and walnut. This place has a high rating for a good reason. I first tried this when it was 85% convenience store flirting with the idea of being a restaurant. It was generally me and a parking lot full of Uber drivers taking a break from the airport customers. I've gone a few times over the years as they tweaked the menu and the physical space and it's ALWAYS good. The service is strong and the location is cute, but very busy so beware. I like that they have a clearly written system as you walk in, they help with seating, and they have self serve water and hot tea! Today was their LAST DAY before closing for renovations until December 2024! But another location is about to open in Redwood City. Congratulations to them! Traditional Steak Shawarma Wrap: Strong entry! Flavorful and simple ingredients served in a lavash-type wrap. Street Style Lamb Kebab Wrap: Excellent char on the meat, yet very tender and juicy. Street Style includes tzatziki, thin sliced red onions, and seasoned fries. I love the pillowy pitas here. Falafel Mezze Sampler: Falafel were tender and green inside, nicely crisp outside with 2 sauces; Arabic Salad is solid with a good mix of cucumber and tomato; Tabbouleh had a great texture with fluffy parsley; Baba Ghannoush had a nice smokey flavor and is less creamy than most places in a nice way; Tzatziki was delish; Dolmas were good, if pretty standard; Pickles were yummy; and there is a final unnamed-on-the-menu mezze with labne and dill which was my favorite! The problem with this place is everything on the menu is delicious, so it's impossible to choose. We came here with the family (13 of us) on my sister's recommendation. You start at the line to place your order. It moves at a pretty good pace. It's open seating, so we didn't think 13 of us could sit together. However, we told a nice staff member that we had a large group, and he saved the large table in the center for us. Once you've ordered, you're handed a buzzer, and then you pick up your food once your buzzer goes off. Our group ordered a lot of food, and we all sampled each other's plates. Probably the best Mediterranean food I've had, and that includes my trip to Israel shhh... There's a water station with hot tea as well. You can also pick up your utensils, napkins, and to-go boxes if you need. The hot tea was strong, but good. The place a bustling on a Saturday afternoon. The decor is kinda boho with hanging flowers. Everything is freshly grilled in the back parking lot. What I tried: + Whole cauliflower - so, so good. Perfectly roasted (grilled?) with a smoky flavor and served on yummy tahini dressing. + Street wrap (lamb) - meat was tender and so flavorful, and the pickles, tomatoes, fries, and tzatziki sauce brought everything together. + Falafel - so tender inside and crispy outside. + Fries with garlic dip - the fries were crispy outside and tender inside. Cute place with good flavorful food! You order at the counter and pick up your food once your buzzer vibrates. I tried the combination plate with lamb and beef kabob that came with 2 sides. I got fries for a side which were nice and crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The plate came with fresh pita bread which paired well with my second side of babaganoush. The meat itself was extremely flavorful, I liked the beef better than the lamb. I also tried the wood grilled arayes, they were not my favorite, they had very mild flavor and it tasted like steamed bread/meat. Their mint lemonade was freshly made and tasted excellent and refreshing, highly recommend for this hot summer days I love the aesthetics of this place, very cool art on the wall and lots of foliage decor all over. Food (3.75/5): For the wait and hype on Yelp, I got my expectations really high. I would say the food was good, but it was not amazing. I have been to many better Mediterranean restaurants. I got the steak shwarma plate with baba ghanoush and garlic potatoes and shared a tabbouleh. The portions were pretty big; most of my party had to get to-go containers for leftovers. The naan was very tasty and fluffy! Garlic potatoes could have been softer and were underwhelming in flavor; baba ghanoush was okay. Service (4.5/5): Service was great given how packed they were. You order food, then sign up to be seated, and it's clear the restaurant was trying their best to seat my party of 6, but it seems like many people might have not been signing up and just sitting? Staff were very kind to my table. Ambiance (4.5/5): Very bustling and hectic atmosphere. The place was packed at 2 pm on a Saturday. It would be hard to have a conversation here since it is quite loud. Also parking is pretty limited. If you park in the back, the street leading to it is extremely narrow; in fact, there was an accident that occurred the day I was parking in the back.
