Great food, great service and shareable portions. The restaurant itself is well decorated and inviting from inside and out! My absolutely favorite was the papaya salad. All the flavors were there and thankfully, medium spice was manageable for me! I may have found my new favorite Thai spot!

We ordered 3 items which we all loved: papaya salad (our goto whenever we visit a Thai spot), red curry (same), roast duck fried rice (kids loved it). All are flavorful and quite affordable. We came in before 12pm on a Sunday and it's already mostly filled. Service was enough -- no phony "how's everything" interruptions lol. Bright and plenty of sunlight. Note to the owner: might wanna throw away some of those broken utensils. Detail matters :)

Alright Thai spot located in downtown San Mateo. Gave this spot a try because the high reviews but was disappointed. The inside has a good amount of booths and tables. My husband and I got there right when they opened and were first ones there. We started with the curry puff and the crispy chicken wing. Both were alright, probably wouldn't get the chicken wings again because it was thick with batter but enjoyed the sauce it came with. The pad kee mao was ok, not the best nor worst I've had. Flavor was a bit lacking and there was no spice. The ka na moo krob was the highlight but some of the pork belly was overcooked and hard while some were nice and tender. Wish it was more consistent. The pickled jalepenos were probably the best thing I ate. Overall, good location and pricing but thought this place was just alright. Probably wouldn't come back again. Service was just alright as well, could have been better as it wasn't busy but we had to go to the counter for the check and boxes.

It's okay -- nothing particularly stood out, but the food was decent. What really surprised me was the price. It's actually quite affordable, especially compared with a lot of Thai restaurants these days. For the price, I'd say it's a pretty good value. But probably wont come back, there are a lot of different options in downtown San Mateo.

Hubby and I needed a late dinner around 9 p.m. on Sunday and decided to head to ZhangLiang since we hadn't been there in a while. The place was packed. We joined the waitlist and were somehow number 23, even though they were closing in 30 minutes! Since we weren't about to wait around, we decided to give this Thai place another try. It had been at least two years since our last visit, and they had a table available right away. I remembered liking their Pad Thai, so that was an easy choice. Hubby ordered the seafood salad because papaya salad felt a little too predictable. Big mistake. The "seafood salad" turned out to be a plate of boiled snow fungus (雪耳) mixed with a bunch of random frozen seafood and fish balls. I would not recommend this dish under any circumstances. -100/10. The other dish was chicken with bell peppers in a very sweet sauce. We were surprised to find that it was made with ground chicken. The flavor didn't work for us at all. Maybe 1/5. The Pad Thai ended up being the best thing we ordered. It's not amazing, but it was decent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, this visit reminded us why it's been two years since our last one. We probably won't be coming back.

We stopped here with a party of 8 on Friday evening for dinner. It was a long wait but boy was the wait worth it. The entire unanimously agreed that this restaurant has really delicious Thai food. Food 5/5: We ordered a number of items green curry, pork curry, veg pad kee mao, pork fried rice and Thai iced tea with a panda on the top (it was a showstopper and everyone was intrigued to see it - great conversation starter) We were disappointed by crispy tofu - that's a really bad dish - bland and simply not worth the calories Ambience 5/5: it looks nice. Ambiance is functional and interiors are really good for the price group $$ sign yelp restaurant category. They maintain cleanliness and hygiene Service 4/5 - service was good. People were friendly. It took a relatively long time for them to bring fried rice dishes compared to everything else and they missed to add one item during ordering. But also the restaurant was really busy and a long wait list with only 2-3 staff members, so understandable Parking was easy to find in the downtown parking garage Definitely recommend trying it

Located in San Mateo. The Pad Kee Mao is my go to and I wasn't a fan here unfortunately. I tried it with pork this time and will definitely be coming back to try the chicken next time. I wasn't given a spice option, it was very bland. Next time in person I will see if I can do a 4x spice option as I LOVE spicy pad kee mao. Thai tea is yummy they also have ice cream. The atmosphere is also really nice with plenty of seating, and they even have a fun photo op wall that adds a nice touch to the dining experience.

Located in the heart of downtown San Mateo this Thai restaurant is colorful, well lit with natural sunlight, open space concept. Come at night to see the lights, good food and drinks! Parking is a bit hard to find but, well worth it!

We have passed by many times while walking around this busy part of San Mateo, but this time we decided to give them a try since we haven't had Thai food in a while. We got here for an early dinner, so there were many free tables available, though all the booths were taken when we arrived. Modern interiors and casual vibes. ***OUR PICKS*** MANGO SALMON SALAD ~ deep fried salmon, mango, cashew nut, and onions in spicy lime dressing, served with sliced cabbage. The salmon was fishy and didn't taste fresh. The cabbage was so minimal that you could count the shreds, and it looked like pre-cut slaw from a bag?! It looked O-L-D. This was supposed to be a salad. Not much greenery on the plate. What stood out were chunks of mango and fried salmon. The only thing good was the mango. 2.5/5 CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS ~ deep fried chicken wings marinated in a house specialty sauce flavored with salt and pepper, served with sriracha sauce. The chicken was breaded and fried. I guess I wasn't prepared for that kind of chicken, and the menu didn't give a detailed description of how it was made. I prefer the chicken to be coated in flour versus a bread crumb coating. The chicken meat inside was flavorful even without a sauce. I believe the sauces I got were sweet Thai chili and a salsa. Nothing spicy. 3.5/5 ROASTED DUCK CURRY ~ Slice roast duck with pineapple, bell pepper, Thai basil, and tomato with red curry. My guy ordered this dish, and I just tried a sliver of duck. Tasted like Chinese roasted duck, and there were maybe 4 small pieces of duck. You get a bowl of rice, but this should be listed as an appetizer. 3/5 SPICY EGGPLANT WITH SHRIMP ~ sautéed shrimp with eggplant, bell pepper, basil, and Thai chili. Lots of flavor in this dish! Probably the best dish out of the 4 we had. 4/5 Maybe we ordered wrong. We didn't want the typical Thai dishes like Pad Thai or Pad See-Ew, but maybe those were the dishes they do well here.

3.5 stars. I think the main reasons why this average Thai restaurant has such great reviews and is always busy is because they provide an incentive for people to write reviews (free Thai tea for yelp review and free ice cream cup for Google review), they are a small sized restaurant with limited seating, and their affordable. For those reasons, always expect a wait. There's an iPad wait list and they will text you when the table is ready. They only take reservations for parties of 5 or more The food is decent taste wise. Prices are pretty good for the quality and portions. It's nice that the curry dishes come with rice. We ordered the red curry $13.75, yellow curry $13.75, pad Thai $14.75, and spicy eggplant $15.25. Everything is on the sweeter side and not very spicy despite my request for spicy. Food is not bad, but didn't quite satisfy my Thai food craving, which is not a good sign...

Second time ordering from here. It's always busy & has a good flow of foot traffic. The restaurant has a good layout of the seating arrangements. The food was tasty. Great costumer service, employee Awn was super attentive & nice.

Unbeatable prices for delicious Thai food. Best part is that their curries come with rice and it's not an extra fee. I think that their Roast Duck Curry is by far the best dish, but they have an extensive menu. What's also really nice is their bear-shaped ice cubes that come with their Thai Iced Tea. Service at times can be slow, but the staff are very friendly. We also enjoyed the fried bananas and ice cream, but it was more ice cream than banana as we had 4 pieces of fried banana

    Pad Thai, roti, chicken skewers

I love the Thai tea :S the service is very nice and prompt, didn't have a hard time at all.

Staff refilled our water throughout the meal and checked in periodically. Pacing of dishes also felt just right not much of a wait between courses. Overall really enjoyed our meal at Rin-Tei, a great spot for a nice dinner that's still fairly affordable for the bay area. Really loved the fusion and unique twist this spot offers. Keema Curry $23: I liked this a lot, fan of curry. However, this wasn't spectacular curry. Tasted as good as I can make it at home, but I'm not a great cook, just follow the instructions on the box. I liked the flavor but bummed that I paid that much for it, haha. I was very confused it tasted as such. Vietnamese Papaya Salad $12: Another of my favorites dishes, but boyyyy, this missed the mark. It was so strangely bitter. Again, the ingredients seemed quite fresh, but the sauce (which makes the whole dish) did not taste good. I would avoid. One note I will say is that the ingredients do seem fresh. I guess it could be considered clean eating? But over all, the visit was disappointing unfortunately.

It was Saturday midday and the area was quite busy, but we were able to find street parking a few blocks away. Tip: if you park on the street, beware of 1 hr parking signs on certain sections of the street! We waited just under 10 minutes to get in because we were a small party and could immediately see how lively it was inside. I really liked the decor. It felt homey, but still sleek and modern, very understated in a good way with natural tones. It was totally my kind of restaurant. Again it was quite busy inside, and I think that may be why service was just okay. When we sat down, our table had two empty water glasses, but no water. I looked at tables next to us and realized they all had bottles of water, and one table had two, so I wondered if they took ours. In any case, the waiter must have missed it when we were seated and given menus, so it took a bit for us to wave someone down for water. We also ended up needing another napkin later, and it was a bit hard to catch the eye of anyone to ask for more as they hustled by. Looking at the menu, everything looked good, so we tried a few things: crab and sweet corn benedict, pork belly benedict, and matcha pancakes. And that's where we were let down a little more. Most of our food came out cold or lukewarm. For the benedicts, I hypothesized it might have been because they were made with fresh hollandaise, but my friend told me hollandaise can be made hot, so that theory went out the window. For the pancakes, I am not really sure what happened. Other than that, my friend's pork belly was very chewy and hard to cut. Overall, though everything was presented well and looked great, the execution was just not there. Still, I had a nice chat with another customer who ordered the porridge and really enjoyed it, so I know they are doing other things well on the menu, it was just not our day I guess. All that said, we had an okay experience, but I don't know if it's enough to warrant a repeat visit if not for a specific occasion.

We ordered the shrimp pad thai, red curry beef, chicken gra pow, Kaor Moo Yang (pork jowl), garlic rice, and coconut rice. Overall, the food was very flavorful, and we enjoyed the meal. The pad thai was the standout. Great flavor and good shrimp, although the noodles were surprisingly hard. We were told that's how they're supposed to be, but personally I'd prefer them a little more cooked. Still, we happily finished the whole plate. The pork jowl was excellent on its own. I don't care for the sweet sauce on the side at all. The red curry had great flavor, but the beef was a little tough. The gra pow was tasty but saltier than I prefer. The one thing I'd skip is the coconut rice. It was so sweet and gummy that it felt more like dessert than a side dish. Plain jasmine rice next time. Thai iced tea was delicious, and the Thai iced coffee was good but very sweet. We paid about $107 before tip for three people, which feels pretty standard for the Bay Area. Service was generally friendly, although our server was a little dismissive when we mentioned the pad thai noodles. Overall it's a great meal. Will come back to try other dishes for sure!

Ordered 9 dishes and Thai ice tea. The standouts were the prawns in blanket, tom kha soup, green curry and mango sticky rice. Kaos Moo Yang sauce was spicy and good, but pork was not juicy & succulent. Disappointed by chicken satay and chicken fried rice -chicken was too dry and overcooked for my preference. The fried tofu was not pillowy soft inside and fried crisp outside.

I was torn between getting a sweet, simple or savory dish since everything sounded so good. I ended…read moreup getting simple (or so I thought), but my omelette was so light and delicious. What was the cherry on top for me was the sweet potato tots which lives rent free in my head! It's so crispy and has the nice natural sweetness to it that you don't even need ketchup! What was a second contender for my order was the chicken and waffle which looked so crispy and well presented... and definitely what I'm going to get next time! Restaurant is a bit small so it can feel cramped. However, service was very quick. Parking is also hard since there is only street parking available so plan accordingly!

Reading the other reviews, I had some a little bit of mixed feelings going in, but I am happy to…read morereport that we had a wonderful brunch here on a busy Sunday morning. Our host was very attentive in managing the daunting looking long line in front of the restaurant, but no matter what, it only took about 15-18 minutes for us to get seated. She hands out menus for you to study before you get inside. Good call. Once seated, you'll enjoy a bright contemporary interior with the usual light wood accents and pretend ivy leaves along a wall or two. The seats are comfy with the wooden looking tables, but best of all, we enjoyed our selections to the fullest. Busy energetic vibe here! Even with a relatively full restaurant, it only took about 10 minutes after our orders for our entrees to appear before us. While I love fried chicken in all its forms and styles, my tummy wanted something somewhat healthy for me, so I chose the... The WHITEOUT - Egg White Omelette with spinach, basil, mushrooms, little bits of red peppers, melted mozzarella on the inside with a healthy amount of feta cheese sprinkled on top. I wasn't expecting too much, but this was surprisingly good down to the last bite. For sides, I went with the default "rainbow" potatoes, which were basically diced fried red and white potatoes and the default mixed greens salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Both sides were the perfect contrast to the eggs and melted mozzarella and spinach. YUM. Easy 5/5! YUZU LEMONADE - enjoyable with a bit of mint leaf, maybe I'll ask for a little less ice. I wanted something a bit more Yuzu, but this was decent. (3.6/5) My dining compatriots enjoyed the Vegan Lover great tofu!), Thai Tea French Toast, Ube Pancakes and Chicken Croffle. No complaints from the gallery! =) Nice presentation throughout and caring cheery service! I'm looking forward to coming back here again soon to try out the Yaki Udon, which was my runner-up to my meal selection today!

Having said that, Mingalaba is probably the most authentic Asian restaurant I've eaten at so far. You can there that there's no shortcuts with the dishes, nothing is watered down, everything is just real. The coconut chicken soup is something out of this world. It's not spicy at all. I can't describe it but it was really delicious, as with all the other dishes. The service was amazing and they even amended some of our dishes so that we could feed it to our kid (non-spicy). I really like this restaurant. Only such a shame we live so far now and only just discovered it. I'd visit again if I'm around.

Why are Burlingameses paying a whooping $19 for a tea leaves salad / papaya salad of a side-salad…read moreportion size??? Yes I enjoyed most things we ordered. I'd rank their flavors ever slightly better than other Burmese restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. But their salad portion size felt like 1/8 of other places'. For hot dishes, about 1/2-1/3. Just cannot justify the price. What I liked: both aforementioned salads, samosa soup, curries. What I didn't like: house special noodles. Extremely bland. The service was lacking too. Also it felt like they wanted us to leave as soon as we finished. I was considering ordering a few more dishes (because, duh, I was still hungry due to the surprisingly small portions). But they brought us the check already; we were still eating! This was a workday lunch. They're almost full but still have available tables and no one's waiting. What's the rush?
