This cute little Thai spot in San Mateo has packs a powerful punch of BIG flavor. As you walk in, you are immediately greeted with the delicious aroma of freshly made Thai food. And although the dinning area is small, it gets filled very quickly... But, don't you worry, the staff is constantly buzzing around to ensure your glass is never empty and all questions are easily and quickly answered if you have any. This place doesn't boast a vast menu but what was listed was truly delicious. I opted for a some traditional Pad Thai and my boyfriend had a delectable red curry dish. Everything came out piping hot and super fresh. All the veggies were perfectly crunchy and both dishes were exceptionally seasoned. I was very impressed with the portion size as well, as I was able to take at least half of my plate home for leftovers. The star of the show for me was really the lychee iced tea though. I'm a lychee lover through and through and never had anything quite like this. It was so refreshing and delicious without being overly sweet. I highly recommend it. All in all, the experience was great and so was the food. Definitely a place worth stopping by again if i'm in the area!

I'd been searching for a pad Thai that wasn't dry and actually had that rich tamarind flavor, and I finally found it. This one is so juicy and flavorful. The prawns in a blanket were also delicious. Will definitely be back to try more!

I absolutely loved this place. Very cozy atmosphere, quick service and hot/fresh food. Everything was fantastic and flavorful without trying too hard. I appreciated that they put all the fixings on the side of the pad thai. We also got the yellow coconut curry with a side of rice, but dug in before I could take a picture. Both were incredible. Top thai food in San Mateo easily.

Delicious dishes - my favorites are the pad thai, larb and pad see ew. The servers are lovely and the restaurant is not too loud. I appreciate that take-out orders are processed outside, as it minimizes people coming in and out of the restaurant. I will keep supporting this CHARMing local business

We were in the mood for Thai food and went to Charm Thai on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy and we were seated right away next to the only occupied table. Moments later, another group came they were seated next to us so suddenly it became very loud in a nearly empty restaurant. It would have been more pleasant to sit further away from others. The food was good. We ordered pad Thai (nice size order), fried fish (so good), and chicken noodle soup (a bit plain and bland, I always forget this and order it again).

I've been looking for a Thai spot in San Mateo and decided to try this one out. We ordered the Pad Thai and Pla Pad Cha. The Pad Thai was mainly noodles, didn't have a lot of tofu or chicken and was on the sweeter side. The Pla Pad Cha was flavored amazingly but it was lacking sauce. The fish was fresh and crispy! Servers were nice and the food came quite quick.

Pad Kee Mao $15.95. Very oily & flavorful, meat 2 oz max. I wasn't super hungry otherwise I would mentioned the lack of meat in the dish.
    Abbie C.

Service was average. The meat for both dishes I would say was 2 oz maximum each. The meat for both the pad kee mao $15.95 and beef noodle soup $15.50 was tough. It was not tender nor chewy. The beef noodle soup was very basic packed with spice flavors. The pad kee mao had decent flavor, but was very oily. Ambiance is decent with some decor not super crowded tables.

I came with my friend because we had a craving for Thai food. The service was good, the server was welcoming. The place is not too big but is decorated in a charming way. We ordered three dishes which was the Chicken Satay, Sweet Sol, Chicken Pad Thai, , and Coconut rice. The Chicken Satay was a bit dry but with the sauce it was still pretty good. The Sweet Sol was fried well and the inside was tender without bones. The last dish we had was the Chicken Pad Thai which is one of my favorites in Thai cuisine. It had the right amount of seasoning and the noodles were just right. The coconut rice was a good accompaniment to the dishes. I have been to this restaurant two times and it is a good find and pretty consistent.

Charm Thai is aptly named. It is quaint and homey and the dishes coming out of the kitchen are cooked to order, with telltale signs like fresh herbs, tender crisp veggies and proteins that are delectable and taste marinated and cooked quickly at high heat not stewed or slow cooked. My pumpkin chicken red curry had a perfect kick of thai chilis, with milder ingredients like basil, green beans and bell peppers. Chicken and pumpkin portions. were generous. Rice was slightly more sticky and glutinous than I prefer, giving an indication of being prepped and cooked in advance and in bulk- It perfectly complimented the curry adding some appetizing texture and viscosity to the dish. The Prig King Beef that I took to go was amazing reheated the next day. The string beans and beef were the stars, accented by kaffir lime, basil and chili paste. Of course, being me, I have to shout out the service, best illustrated by the way the singular service person hustled amongst the tables despite wearing an orthopedic boot that ought to have slowed him down. He kept my glass full of perfectly brewed lack iced tea. The addition of fresh lime and a tiny sprig of fresh clipped mint spoke to the level of detail that this restaurant goes to enhance customer experience. It's the little details and this tiny eatery does great take out, but the dine in experience is definitely on a five star level and a reasonably priced one, at that.

Came here on a Saturday around 12pm with a party of 2 and were seated immediately. Service is prompt and food came out fast. Dishes: Tom Yum (Shrimp) - delicious! Tom yum is my favorite thing to order at all Thai restaurants. This iteration is great, I'm a big fan of the large chunks of onion since it's a bit more of a unique take but I liked how the flavor profile worked out. You also get nice big chunks of mushrooms and tomatoes, it really hits the spot. Pumpkin Curry (Chicken) - delicious and filling. The curry has great flavor and pairs really well with chicken as the protein. High recommend Other dishes: * brown jasmine rice (also recommend this - healthy and delicious!) * thai ice coffee * string beans Between two people these dishes were the perfect portions for us. We finished everything, no leftovers.

Staff refilled our water throughout the meal and checked in periodically. Pacing of dishes also felt just right not much of a wait between courses. Overall really enjoyed our meal at Rin-Tei, a great spot for a nice dinner that's still fairly affordable for the bay area. Really loved the fusion and unique twist this spot offers. Definitely worth a try if you are in San Mateo

Our order... Creamy Soy Milk Pho $25: It's straight forward, taste like pho with soy milk in it. The dish doesn't open some new flavor combo in your taste buds, just expect it as is. Keema Curry $23: I liked this a lot, fan of curry. However, this wasn't spectacular curry. Tasted as good as I can make it at home, but I'm not a great cook, just follow the instructions on the box. I liked the flavor but bummed that I paid that much for it, haha. I was very confused it tasted as such. Vietnamese Papaya Salad $12: Another of my favorites dishes, but boyyyy, this missed the mark. It was so strangely bitter. Again, the ingredients seemed quite fresh, but the sauce (which makes the whole dish) did not taste good. I would avoid. One note I will say is that the ingredients do seem fresh. I guess it could be considered clean eating? But over all, the visit was disappointing unfortunately.

It was Saturday midday and the area was quite busy, but we were able to find street parking a few blocks away. Tip: if you park on the street, beware of 1 hr parking signs on certain sections of the street! We waited just under 10 minutes to get in because we were a small party and could immediately see how lively it was inside. I really liked the decor. It felt homey, but still sleek and modern, very understated in a good way with natural tones. It was totally my kind of restaurant. Again it was quite busy inside, and I think that may be why service was just okay. When we sat down, our table had two empty water glasses, but no water. I looked at tables next to us and realized they all had bottles of water, and one table had two, so I wondered if they took ours. In any case, the waiter must have missed it when we were seated and given menus, so it took a bit for us to wave someone down for water. We also ended up needing another napkin later, and it was a bit hard to catch the eye of anyone to ask for more as they hustled by. Looking at the menu, everything looked good, so we tried a few things: crab and sweet corn benedict, pork belly benedict, and matcha pancakes. And that's where we were let down a little more. Most of our food came out cold or lukewarm. For the benedicts, I hypothesized it might have been because they were made with fresh hollandaise, but my friend told me hollandaise can be made hot, so that theory went out the window. For the pancakes, I am not really sure what happened. Other than that, my friend's pork belly was very chewy and hard to cut. Overall, though everything was presented well and looked great, the execution was just not there. Still, I had a nice chat with another customer who ordered the porridge and really enjoyed it, so I know they are doing other things well on the menu, it was just not our day I guess. All that said, we had an okay experience, but I don't know if it's enough to warrant a repeat visit if not for a specific occasion.

Having said that, Mingalaba is probably the most authentic Asian restaurant I've eaten at so far. You can there that there's no shortcuts with the dishes, nothing is watered down, everything is just real. The coconut chicken soup is something out of this world. It's not spicy at all. I can't describe it but it was really delicious, as with all the other dishes. The service was amazing and they even amended some of our dishes so that we could feed it to our kid (non-spicy). I really like this restaurant. Only such a shame we live so far now and only just discovered it. I'd visit again if I'm around.

Why are Burlingameses paying a whooping $19 for a tea leaves salad / papaya salad of a side-salad…read moreportion size??? Yes I enjoyed most things we ordered. I'd rank their flavors ever slightly better than other Burmese restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. But their salad portion size felt like 1/8 of other places'. For hot dishes, about 1/2-1/3. Just cannot justify the price. What I liked: both aforementioned salads, samosa soup, curries. What I didn't like: house special noodles. Extremely bland. The service was lacking too. Also it felt like they wanted us to leave as soon as we finished. I was considering ordering a few more dishes (because, duh, I was still hungry due to the surprisingly small portions). But they brought us the check already; we were still eating! This was a workday lunch. They're almost full but still have available tables and no one's waiting. What's the rush?
