Kudos to the Dimond team on MacArthur Boulevard who designed and executed this place - it transported me away from California in the best way possible. I genuinely felt like I was traveling.

Plenty of pastries to choose from (which I'll be back to try). If you're looking for something caffine free, refreshing, and light consider their refreshers. I kept mixing, assuming I was misjudging it, and took a few sips as I walked away. The taste and texture were wrong, almost slimy, and I spat it out. I went back in and asked staff to check the milk. They pulled the carton and told me the expiration date was for the next day, so it was "fine," and offered to remake my drink. I didn't want a replacement -- I wanted them to actually taste or check what they'd just served me, since I'd already swallowed some of it. They insisted nothing was wrong without doing that. I asked for a refund, and poured the drink out on the sidewalk outside, where you could see the slimy, thick consistency on video. When I went back in to show them, an employee looked at it and still insisted there was nothing wrong with it. Milk being dated for "tomorrow" doesn't mean it hasn't turned -- texture and taste are the real test, and this one failed both. I'm most frustrated that staff wouldn't even check a customer's specific complaint about something they'd already consumed. Won't be returning.

Beginning with the latte, it actually wasn't too sweet and the Biscoff gave the coffee a light richness that wasn't overpowering. The milk cake is soft and practically melts in your mouth. The croissant goes well with the pistachio and rose filling. Lastly, the spinach and turnover is light, baked to golden perfection, and is the perfect size to share. Last time we were in, I picked up a calendar of free classes on various highly useful skills, offered by a local organization. My friends salad, was pricey, and huge, but again, a little underwhelming when it came down to the salad. A lot of greens with a half of an avocado, dressed. Overall, drinks and maybe the pastries, yes. Such a cute and relaxing cafe to catch up with friends or solo dine. If you happen to be a vegan or very veggie forward, this may call out to you more, but as someone who appreciates veggies and fresh eats, this still rang up as underwhelming and not quite worth the price tag.

Their organic coffee tastes great, the space is pleasant with a lot of natural light and the atmosphere is relaxed. We also love the mix of clientele which is just so Oakland. However this visit has been different. The quality of service has fallen tremendously. Despite the specific but extremely simple instructions of the order, it's rarely followed fully. One day it will be perfect, the next the coffee is barely warm when one has asked for extra hot; or one coffee will be sweetened and the other not at all when the instructions clearly ask for light sweet. One day we got two espressos instead of two cortados! The heated fatayer were cold in the corners and all crowded on to one plate so you couldn't tell which has which filling. Just generally, it's as if the people behind the counter no longer care that your experience should be great or that one cup of coffee that you have in your day be perfect! It's not even as if one is asking for anything outside of their ordering menu. We're really dismayed and saddened to see our favorite coffee haunt fall so far from grace. Here is hoping, though, that they will rethink their service attitude.

We did, but it turns out they take orders in person in the back. Ah well. * Although we got there about 1PM and they were open to 5PM, there were a lot of menu items that were already sold out. Including pretty much any baked goods. Sigh. * All the tables that seat four people had one person at them with their stuff spread all over the table. Technically not the restaurant's fault, but it was kind of annoying. We opted for the community table, which was empty. * After what felt like a considerable amount of time, they brought out the "big breakfast" that my significant other had ordered. Without comment, the bagel was replaced by a single piece of toast cut in half. We looked at each other quizzically, and I said, "I guess maybe they ran out of bagels?" Well, OK. Sigh. But where's my order of a bulgogi sandwich? I told my SO to go ahead and eat and not let the eggs get cold. * He tried the eggs, but they were kind of dry and lukewarm, like they had been dying in the window. I said, "How could they be dying in the window when mine isn't even here yet?" But there it is. * My SO had almost finished his lunch, and there was still no sign of mine. Finally I went up to the register and asked. Turns out they had never even started making mine. Um, what? Two orders come on the same ticket, and you decide to make one and not the other? * As I mentioned above, they offered to either start my order then or give me a refund. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I just took the refund. Then we walked down the street to Ole's Waffle House so I could order food and have a chance of receiving it. There, I had one of the best patty melts I can recall, and my SO enjoyed what he said was the best piece of carrot cake he ever had. Plenty of good coffee refills for half the price of the tiramisu lattes. Dandelion Kaffe was busy, but if the kitchen doesn't feel like making what you order, then what's the use?
