Stopped in for a cappuccino + empanada situation and... wow. The empanada was flaky, golden, deeply satisfying - the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-sidewalk. The cappuccino? Smooth, balanced, and clearly made by someone who cares. Quick and important note: this isn't a pup-friendly café inside (totally fair), and I missed the sign - but the folks working there were incredibly gracious and kind when I popped in briefly with my dog to place our order. That warmth matters, and it shows. Sunny sidewalk moments, neighborhood energy, and food + coffee that absolutely deliver. This is one of those Oakland spots you're grateful exists--and then quietly hope doesn't get too crowded (but also deserves all the love). read more

Cute spot! Really appreciated the dog vibes here -- lots of pups on the weekend and good vibes overall. Staff were friendly! Shop had a cute backyard patio area for dogs which was great, said high to a lot of cuties. The horchata latte was good and loose leaf as well. There are also outdoor outlets! Dream come true! Can get loud so be sure to bring headphones and lots of treats. read more

I got an espresso and an oat milk macchiato. Both were excellent. The espresso was perfectly executed -- smooth, creamy, not bitter or burnt, and had great flavor coming through. I tasted notes of chocolate and a mild apple-like acidity -- sweet and warm, not sharp. 5/5 The macchiato had a little more milk than expected, but the oat milk complemented the espresso really well. 4.5/5 I'll definitely be back. If they're consistently this good, this could become one of my favorite spots in the East Bay. read more

Don't let the name Xochi, The Dog Cafe, mislead you like it did for us! We thought it was an ultra-dog-friendly cafe, but it's not. I got together with my coworker and wanted to bring my pup. Finding a spot was a bit tricky initially, but he recommended we check out Xochi. We arrived at the cafe on a Sunday afternoon. There was a sign saying no dogs allowed inside due to health and safety regulations (I understand) and how the cafe is named after their dog. My coworker ordered first and got us a table on their outdoor patio. The patio is dog-friendly and pleasant--vast, lush, and quaint. There are several tables spaced out to enjoy your drinks. The inside is minimalistic and roomy, with about three to four tables where you can work. We came on an off day, and they closed early. As a result, service seemed rushed, and we felt they wanted us to leave. Their Horchata Latte enticed me with Oat Milk. For the amount I paid, I felt like the quality and quantity didn't match. There was no horchata flavor, and it was super light on cinnamon. I don't think I'd come back to get this. This is a nice neighborhood coffee spot for those living in East Oakland. For others, especially paw-rents, this is just a PSA--it's dog-friendly outside! Parking is available in the neighborhood, with the shop on the corner of E 21st Street. read more

Cool cafe especially if you have a pup! Nice choices and servers are so nice and accommodating. But really the best part is to bring your pup and let them roam around greet-sniffing other pups in the cage or in the backyard. It's social fun for them while you chill with your coffee! read more

I'm a semi-regular at this spot-I've probably been here about a dozen times. They have great ice lattes, sandwiches and empanadas. Service is quick and efficient. tl;dr: coffee good, service bad the coffee was good but the employees are hella rude. if i'm sitting outside, don't hear my name called and go inside to get my drinks and there are 2 drinks next to a post it w my name on it (both being drinks that i ordered), im gonna take both. so instead of saying "are you anna?!" and snarkily smiling/smirking while saying it, why not put out both my drinks at the same time?? and then my partner walks in to grab the second drink and a different person said "are you ash?!" you could be like "that's for ana. that's for ash". but instead they give hella attitude. like yall need to chill. it's not that serious. i worked at a coffee shop before too so i know how annoying customers can be but this was tew much the other customers there were nice though with their cute dogs. if you grab a drink here don't even try to be polite tbh. and stay inside so they won't be rude to you if you don't hear your name called and try to grab a drink that literally looks like yours and is next to a post it w your name on it read more

Parking is surprisingly open more often than not, however, I, do not like this place and I wonder if that's why parking is often available.. The neighborhood coffee shop is nice, the poster board is a nice community touch and especially all the nookish seating outside. But the feel and customer service is OFF. I've tried here a few times... you're often never acknowledged until it's time to order ($ - and sometimes it's NOT that busy!) I was glad to see others also feel the employees are rude(ish) and passive aggressive? It's always a weird vibe. Seems like the owner knows he's gonna get business and that just stinks. I've always felt taken for granted here and not because my name is Xóchi. If you want a gentrified neighborhood coffee shop, this is your spot! Xochi Cafe has been one of my go-to spots for years. The people who work there are always nice, the coffee is always spot on (especially the Vanilla Latte!), and the vibe is just... easy. I love sitting in the back patio when I need to focus, catch up with a friend, or just take a breather. Never had a bad experience here, only good coffee and good energy. read more

This place was pretty mediocre. I really love the neighborhood location and the garden seating in the back is also quite lovely. My friend and I got there about noon on a Saturday. We both wanted lattes and toast. They were totally out of bread and quiche by noon! That means at least 6 of their offerings were not available (and their menu is small). Employees were not overly engaging or friendly. I thought the lattes were okay, but nothing spectacular, but they were pretty. I do like coffee places that spend time crafting a pretty drink. :) Unfortunately, the designs and the outdoor seating are not enough to make me want to come again. read more

Nice little cafe in a quiet neighborhood. Came here on a Wednesday morning with my family and it was quite busy but plenty of street parking available. There were a few dogs chilling outside of the cafe. The inside was very cozy with a few tables and chairs. We ate at the backyard area as it was more spacious with more bigger tables and chairs. There was a good selections of food and drinks on the menu. I ordered at the cashier inside and the staff brought the food and drinks out not too long after. I got the mushroom empanada, quiche, twice baked almond croissant, matcha latte and horchata latte. The empanada and baked goods were all delicious. The matcha latte came out unsweetened so note to order it sweetened if you want it sweet. The horchata latte was creamy and smooth. I could taste that it was made with actual horchata and not just flavored syrup. It had a nice cinnamon spiced note but it was a bit on the sweeter side. Really enjoyed our time here and Cumba loved seeing all the furry friends too! read more

This is a neighborhood joint to the t. Located in a beautiful little neighborhood, Xochi is that corner coffee shop. You know the one, that has all their regulars sitting outside chatting with each other, welcoming patrons, as their dogs putter around. The UPS guy is grabbing a coffee, and the back patio is humming with locals working. Street parking was fairly easy on a busy Friday morning. The coffee is solid and they sell Starter bakery pastries and Javi's empanadas. The empanadas are a bit pricey for their size, but they were delicious. Overall, vibes and the community feels makes this a no brainer 5 stars. I wish this type of spot was in my 'hood! read more

This is the spot! Xochi is my go to for coffee and matcha. We stop by at least once a week to grab some coffee beans as well. They serve starter bakery pastries and have their own sandwiches as well as empanadas. If you want an actual matcha - hit this place up, it's made properly. Sometimes they have a strawberry syrup to add to it and it's by far the best strawberry matcha I've had. The owners are kind and fully invested in making this a spot for the community. It's got a great outdoor patio to sit in as well. Good vibes all around. One time while sitting outside I heard a couple complain about the dogs that were there. Don't be that couple. It's literally in the name. You're almost guaranteed to run into a few here, consider it an added treat! read more

Cutest little cafe that opened up in the neighborhood! Always driving past but this time we walked and I'm glad we did! Not busy at all, you just order at the door and wait outside. We split the bittersweet chocolate cookie and had iced horchata lattes. Loved them both, perfect pairing for sure. I'd order again plus come back and try the rest! I went to Xochi for the first time ever this week. I live in the neighborhood and have walked by this coffee shop several times. This review is purely for the coffee as I didn't hangout or eat at Xochi. I like dark roast coffee (I'm from Seattle, home of dark roast) so I didn't think my americano was great. It seems that Xochi uses the same third wave coffee that most Bay Area shops use - the fruity, citrusy light roast that just doesn't taste good. I went to Cole coffee the next day and was reminded that it will forever be my favorite coffee in Oakland. read more

Pro: - very dog friendly -outdoor space has plenty of seating -staff is welcoming -space is a good size, not too small -coffee is strong, oat milk is not extra -free and ample street parking Con: -wifi is weaker on the patio, 2-3 bars.
