Welcome to Mazal beer & wine.
    Carl N.

Mazal Berr & Wine is an Israeli vegan vegetarian restaurant in East Los Angeles, CA. The word Mazal in Israeli means "luck" or "fortune." They serve shareable small plates with fresh Mediterranean ingredients as well as drink. Interior and exterior seats are good with relaxing atmosphere. I came after driving pass by last couple months and decided to check it out. I had a drink just because I had a long work day. Beer and wine selections were good. Female white petite bartender was nice and competent. Parking in the area can be a challenge given they're in an industrial park and next to the 5 fwy. Overall, I had a good experience.

Perhaps the best mediterranean veggie/vegan fare in LA. After a day at the Wi Korean spa, there's no better meal than the fresh, healthy and delicious fare at Mazal. Friendly service and a family run affair: With Tal who manages front of house, his mum Hanni cooking 5 dishes at the same time, while their dad selects fresh produce from their farm (40 miles outside LA). The food reminded us of the better farm to table restaurants in Israel. The decor is very Israeli with menorah's by the window and the setup is like a casual bistro. The menu is simple (one page) but has some gems. We couldn't decide between the dips, so we requested a dip platter (off menu, they can accommodate if the kitchen isn't too busy). It comes with 4 dips: Magreb tahini (spicy tahini), fresh cool babaganoush (eggplant), fresh whipped hummus with chickpeas and spicy tahini. The asparagus was amazing with a bed of what felt like muhamarra, made of red bell peppers from their local farm and walnuts. I could scoop that dip for days with a pita. The shawarma oyster mushrooms was our main entree, it comes with a delicate cannellini purée that definitely needs the side of mint chimichurri. The mushrooms are fried and benefit from the freshness of the puree and the freshness of the mint chimichurri. Finally we wanted to save some room for desserts so we bagged many of the dips for lunch the next day - even better the next day. Tao recommended the coconut baklava and it was gone before you can say bak la what? This promoted us to get a second dessert which we knew we'd share with the rest of the fam, and we opted for the classic marbled halva, despite being tempted by the pistachio. Of the two, the coconut baklava was my favorite. Tip: Free street parking Tip: If the weather permits, sit in the outside patio for an amazing experience.

Wow, the bread and dips was actually the highlight for me Overall great experience. Staff was super kind and attentive You can sit inside or outside in the back patio. The back patio is such a cute ambiance. It looks like they are growing their own herbs and plants. Lots to observe Food you can't go wrong with. I think everything was vegetarian and their flavors were so enhanced

Great place for Israeli vegetarian food. Mazal is tucked away in an unassuming neighborhood, but as you enter, the space is cozy and inviting with friendly service. The menu is simple but varied. We enjoyed everything we tried. My favorite was probably the oyster mushrooms, rich and savory. The pita bread was also delicious. Plenty of street parking available.

And back again, Mazal remains a great place even though I found this time's choices a bit less well rounded than on previous visits. Babaganoush, hummus, and maghrebi potatoes were wonderful, the stuffed grape leaves a bit genuine. The V Steak & artichoke was mediocre, and the couscous really a bit substance and color-less. Fortunately, the chocolate bourekas made up a bit at the end. PREVIOUS REVIEW 2 Back for an encore with our visitors. The food was once again a dream - the service definitely less and remained a dream. While Mimi was on the front super nice, she was very impatient with our party of 7. And while an automatic 25% tip is added to parties of six and more, there was little attention to deserve that. Plates were not changed between main and dessert, silverware was not provided for shared items, a dirty knife was accidentally dropped on one of the participants without even an excuse or help to clean the clothes, water remained low ... Again, 5 stars for the food which asks for returns, but the guest relations and service skills are at best 3 stars and have a lot of room for improvements. PREVIOUS REVIEW 1 A gem in a place where you would not expect it. This wonderful Israel-based vegetarian restaurant offered a nice selection of food items. We chose the stuffed grape leaves and the hummus: The hummus was creamy and delicious, but the warm and fluffy pita bread was simply unbeatable. For mains, we went with the harissa sprouts - wow a nice touch of spiciness! - as well as the fig flatbread. The street appearance and entry are already a stark contrast to the neighborhood, the atmosphere on the inside is cool, modern, and there is a nice and a bit more quiet outdoor area. The staff was very attentive - maybe a touch too fast: Just having returned from a trip to Europe where one continues to sit and maybe order more after a while, the check arrived within minutes not to say seconds after swallowing the last bite.

The atmosphere is beautiful and inviting, with a high end vibe. The food was delicious and so hard to choose! We had the hummus and pita, beets, and potato bourekas to start. We had cilantro Tumeric cauliflower, shawarma rubbed oysters as our mains and the halva and chocolate bourekas for dessert. It was ALOT of food. The staff were friendly and helpful. Should the opportunity arise we would definitely come back to try other items and recommend to others.

Overall everything was just fine here. The hummus was good, and we quite liked the Sharma oyster mushrooms but there weren't any dishes that really stood out. I was also pretty disappointed by the wine serving - for as expensive as this glass of wine was it would have been nice to be able to drink more than a few sips.

This restaurant is in an unassuming area. It looks like closed warehouses at night. Parking is available on the street. It's free. On Google, it says vegetarian Israeli. I was excited to try. I made a reservation for a party of six, but it wasn't crowded inside at the time of my visit. Upon entering, I could smell roasted deliciousness. The server recommended getting several items to share. We almost ordered more pita because the spreads were so good. This is the food we ordered for six people (plus drinks): -Spicy tahini spread $14 (comes with 2 pita), 5/5 - I would get this again! -Sweet potato hummus $18 (comes with 2 pita), 3/5 - Good, but the spicy tahini was better. -Cheese boureka $12, 3/5 - This was just ok. It's got flavor, but other dishes were better in comparison. I wouldn't get this again. -Charred broccoli $17, 6/5 - This was a crowd favorite. I don't even know how to describe it - like broccoli that is so crispy it crumbles because it's charred. Why is something so simple like this the best dish we had that night! -Eggplant steaks with falafel $23, 4/5 - This was surprisingly flavorful. People who don't usually like eggplant thought it tasted good. -Shwarma oyster mushrooms $28, 4/5 - I wish this dish was a bigger portion size. This was tasty. When we left, our clothes smelled so strongly of smoke. We had an outside cake for the table. They brought it out for us with the candles lit. There is a cake fee of $3 per person.

It's an absolutely cozy & cute place. The service was great. The hummus and Pita were really good. Israeli Salad was fresh but it didn't have much seasoning on it. We also ordered Potato Bourekas, Shawarma Rubbed Oyster Mushrooms, Cumin Beets. They were all ok. Cilantro Turmeric Cauliflower had nice flavor. Overall, everything was fresh. But my friend makes these dishes better., Would I go back? Probably not :-(

Mazal is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Whether you sit inside or in the patio..it's such a chill vibe. The air-fried olives with vegan labneh (crispy onions are delicious) and the charred broccoli (lemon garlic aioli is bomb) are my go-to order. It was my bf's first time, so we ordered the steak.. which was new to me.. and we loved it, along with the cheese bourekas and pita. The server was super sweet and attentive. It's always such a great experience. Parking is easy too. Can't wait to come back!

But once inside, you're in another world --modern, organic and comfy chairs. The patios are beautiful and very intimate. Just a great vibe. The service was lovely, with "Somme" taking great care of our large party. Everything came out on a timely basis and the wines were interesting and served at the right temp -- whites perfectly chilled and reds slightly cooler than room. As for the food... it was a foodie treat, with the tuna tartar being a particular standout for its unique condiments and accompaniments. Totally unexpected as it's one of those items found on pretty much every So Cal menu. The beet salad was balanced with both red and yellow beets. The Burrata and dressing added so much flavor that I could have stopped there. I ordered the special barramundi fish, which arrived with a perfectly crispy skin and a lovely light citrus sauce. Our party ordered the BBQ cod (another real real standout!), steak, pork belly and Korean short rib and everything was amazing and perfectly prepared. The charcuterie was all U.S. crafted by small producers and well worth ordering. Unfortunately, we left no room for dessert but will return because apparently "Wife" bakes them. In fact, I saw that if you order with 48 hr advance notice, she'll bake a cake for your special occasion. So, guess where we're going for my birthday? I love this place!

Our server was kind and mentioned being a sommelier, but the wine service felt underwhelming at best. The pacing between courses was also very drawn out. That said, most of the food was lovely. The only miss was the scallops, which seemed underprepared and were oddly floating in a citrus broth. We would have been happy to overlook the slow service and enjoy a long, relaxed evening catching up with friends--until the end of the night. After we had already paid our bill and were in the middle of dessert, we were abruptly and quite rudely told we needed to leave because they were closing. I didn't even get to finish my dessert, and one of our guests had to abandon a half-full glass of wine as we rushed out. After waiting nearly an hour just to begin our meal, being pushed out the door like that felt incredibly disrespectful. Such a disappointment, because I was really excited to try this place. The food is good and the atmosphere is charming--but the overall experience, especially how we were treated at the end, left a bad impression.

The list clearly favors organic and biodynamic producers, which I always appreciate--minimal intervention, letting the terroir and varietal speak without unnecessary manipulation. The flight format was flexible, offering around five selections with the option to choose three pours. I went with a sparkling red, an orange wine, and a white--each bringing its own personality to the table. The sparkling red was lively and slightly unconventional, the orange wine had that textured, skin-contact complexity, and the white rounded things out with a clean, expressive finish. Our server elevated the experience by guiding the tasting order, which made a noticeable difference in how each wine showed. It's always a good sign when the staff understands how to pace a flight rather than just drop it off and walk away. We didn't explore the food menu this time, so I can't speak to the full program, but purely from a wine perspective, it lands at a solid 4 stars for me. The space itself is ideal for a relaxed midday tasting--plenty of seating, with a great outdoor setup. The tall greenery creates a sense of privacy without feeling closed off, making it just as suitable for a casual date as it is for catching up with friends. Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket.
