On a Thursday night, a girlfriend of mine who lives in the area suggested that we and another friend, stop into Mazaar for drinks and a little hookah. Moments later, our big tasty platter of wings and fries arrived. The chicken was prepared perfectly to my liking. The fries were delicious. Several dipping sauces arrived with our food from salty and/or spicy to sweet and spicy. So I thought this place was more upscale than what it was. Dont use eventbrite = cause things can get stalkerish. Definitely not my kind of crowd. From the moment I arrived it was smelly weed smokers out in front. This is the 3rd place that I visited in NYC in 7+ plus years it's been giving criminal syndicate vibes. If you are looking for a chill place with great music this is it. It wasn't crowded but was full, it is definitely a younger crowd type of place. They are super attentive and friendly. They have an array of hookah flavors with different hoses and fruit heads. They also have finger foods if you want to snack. We had a couple of Jameson and ginger ales, some shots and a blue mist hookah with some refills. Our drinks and hookah were refilled often. Great service. read more

This was my first time in a hookah lounge and I had a nice time. They have halloween decorations both inside and out, and outdoors there was a tombstone that said "Dead Inside" and boy was that true. We went in and were the only ones there - To be fair we did go on a Wednesday around 9 pm. The worker there was very kind. We got a redbull/mint hookah in a pineapple and it was very tasty. The drinks were very strong, I ordered a Sex on the Beach. They played good music so that added nicely to the vibe. People did eventually start trickling in and I did notice a party note how small the pitcher they ordered was, it had enough for about 4 drinks. The place is very spacious and litt. Nice clam place to hit up for a few drinks and hookah. I didn't like the fact the gratuity was included in our bill and we barely order so much stuff. It was 4 of us we had a hookah and 2 drinks each and a order of fries and tenders. They include a 18% gratuity and I just felt it was unnecessary it should of been a suggestion. Being that we didn't get much and the servers didn't come and check on us and asked if we wanted more drinks or if we wanted more food. Around 11pm they started charging an entry fee. First off, I just want to let you guys know that any advertisement of Groupon x Livin Social promoting $29 for two people which offers one appetizer, one hookah, and two drinks is a SCAM!! Wtf /: Okay fine, the hookah list has a decent amount of choices, although you only get to choose from the "regular hookah" list. We chose strawberry and though my friend enjoyed it and called it the best part of our list and i begged to differ, I know good hookah because I frequent authentic Lebanese restaurants and I didn't know if it was strawberry or just smoke. Moving on: With Drinks you'll have some variety and they aren't too bad, but what's more?they are served in a smaller version of mason jars. After doing some research of multiple hookah lounges in the area, I decided to settle with this for my birthday weekend. It was alright, but I could've went to better. The cover to get in is $10, however I was told once you reserved there is no cover. Then I told I guess the owner that I had reserved a table and seating ahead of time per the lady, who works there and he was like we don't take reservations after 12AM, but he was able to accommodate us. We first sat in the corner back and then the girl moved us over somewhere else to then tell us to go back to our original spot - which was pretty annoying! Mazaar was just a few blocks away and my friend had RSVP so we would not have to pay the cover fee. We arrived a little after 12am and there was a short line to get in. Once inside I noticed the bar was almost packed. Compared to most bars in the city, Mazaar is a descent size with enough space for people to walk around, sit and smoke hookah, or dance if they choose. The night we went it was a reggae party so the dj played Caribbean music mixed with today's top songs. The bar area stayed crowded and was hard to get the bartenders attention. But the drinks were not watered down at all and was reasonable priced. The only thing good about this place is the DJ (if you go on a day he is there) I visited this place last year for the first time a group of middle school friends had already been there and had invited us. We were changed a $20 which was already a no no to me. I ordered a round of shots (5 shots) and 1 drink henny and ginger ale. The bar tenders were extremely confused from the beginning so I was hesitant to leave my card with them but had no other choice. When the night was over and I happened to look at my bank account I noticed I was charged $180. I bought it to the bar tenders attention and she had no idea what had happened. Come to find out the hookah and drinks that were ordered before id even arrived were charged to my card. These items had already been paid for before I arrived ! I asked to speak to a manager and he apologized for his un trained stuff and attempted to make a deal with me. At this point I was furious no deal should have been made I should be paying for what I ordered it was that simple. I took down all the information I could and recorded the manager stating that he was at fault but of course didn't know how to do a refund. The manager refused to give me any recipes and I had to dispute the charges with my card, REVISITED- This past Monday I decided to give Mazaar a second chance 5 of my girl friends and I went in to have a few drinks as we were in the neighborhood and the music seemed to be pretty good. We all ordered about 2-3 drinks the bill was $133 which included a weird fee that they charge which I assume is to make more money. The DJ is the only good thing about this place, a guy welcomed us and said he was the promoter for the night I'm not so sure what he was promoting as we were basically the only ones in there. Went here with a group of friends. Place wasn't bad had a good night until I was brought my bill. Noticed that the server Rosie charged me for items that we did not order. I confronted her about the items that we did not order. She got upset and asked me if I wanted to view the cameras? I called her bluff. She tried to embarrass my friends and myself by reviewing the cameras with the bar manager (but trust means a lot to me I didn't care about the 50 dollars). After reviewing the cameras the bar manager agreed with me that the bill was incorrect. The bill was corrected and I still left a 18 percent tip. However if you do go there WATCH YOUR BILL! Let's start off with the fact that NO ONE greeted us when we walked in. Came on a saturday night and it was almost empty except one other table and a pair at the bar. The bouncer or security checked our ID's and that was it. We had to find a random table and sat down ourselves. There were 2-3 girls at the bar working but no one came up to us and no one greeted us. After a good 10 minutes we went up to the security/bar to ASK for service and menus. She told us someone will be with us soon and shooed us away. Waited another good 10 minutes just to get menus. And about another 10 for the girl to come take our order. We purchased a Groupon for 4 people that included Two Quality Hookahs, Four Drinks, and Two Appetizers for Four. We showed it to her and she had NO clue. I printed the voucher out and showed her but she seemed confused so i pulled it out on my phone and she was still confused so she literally took my phone and was gone for another good 5 minutes to find out. Not comfortable with a stranger taking my phone out of site and she didn't even ask she just left with it. Supposedly it includes: - Two hookahs (up to a $30 value each) - Four drinks (up to a $14 value each) - Two appetizers (up to a $7 value each) It clearly says hookah with a value up to $30 (still says that on Groupon right now) but when we asked, the girl said we could only choose from the $20 option (not even the $25 options that are still less than $30). False advertisement but we went along with it anyway. The coals were too hot and it made the Hookah way too harsh, and it took a while for us to flag someone down to get new coals (all he did was blow it off and re-position it). Also, it says 2 appetizers up to $7, but they only have ONE OPTION on the menu that is $7 which is just pita bread with a dip, so basically no options to choose from. All in all, shitty service, shitty hookah, it sounds like a steal to get a voucher from Groupon but even WITH it, not worth it at all. Did I also mention the shitty DJ and crappy music?
