We love Maynards! If you're looking for a unique meal, where attention is paid to detail and great service, it's your place. We enjoy the vibe and LOVE the trains as they go by! We think it's great that an old train station has been revived in such a beautiful and tasty way. We recommend the monthly wine pairing dinners too! Though they seem pricey, they are worth it! Also, recommend the kitchen if you're looking for a quick meal or to grab a nice patio drink! read more

We wanted to like Maynard's but the food was just okay. Ambiance is awesome, everything looks like it should be fantastic...but then you take a bite and it just fell flat. Every bite. Hubby said the same thing. Was really happy to get foie gras since can't in CA, but even that was disappointing. Server was good and the virgin mojito rocked. Solid 3 stars. read more

Nice atmosphere. Delicious, beautiful plates. Good service. Smaller servings than expected for the price, but again, delicious. read more

With the awesome resurgence in the downtown Tucson restaurant scene, we haven't been back to Maynard's for a while. Because of our long absence, we were excited to revisit a true pioneer of the downtown Tucson renaissance. Upon arrival, we asked to be seated upstairs since the music downstairs was very loud on this Friday night and we wanted conversation. The upstairs was very nice and offered great views from the windows. As always the service was rock solid, adding to our already jovial holiday moods. Unfortunately, the food has slipped - significantly - since our last visits. We ordered three different dinners and no one finished - each with the lament that the food was just - flavorless. The three dinners were burger, salmon and pork, so it's not like just one dish was off on a given night. We even wound up skipping desert. Sorry. read more

Will come back again, and again, AND AGAIN. I can't help but rave about the ambience of this joint. It's absolutely perfect! It's somewhere that you can grab lunch with a friend at or take a date to. When I was sitting inside, it felt like I was no longer in Tucson and I had somehow magically teleported to somewhere... NOT Tucson (in the best way possible). Inside, there is a case displaying pastries (cinnamon roll, red velvet cupcake, and Danishes to name a few) and a separate one right beside it with all sorts of creative vegetarian snacks (polenta, grilled veggies, stuffed acorn squash). I can't wait to go back to try them!!! On to what I had. My friend and I like to strategize and "divide and conquer" the menu. He ordered the mushroom pizza and I ordered the cubano sandwich. Both were AMAZING and came out in a timely fashion. The mushroom pizza had goat cheese, arugula, mushrooms, roasted garlic and a drizzle of truffle oil to tie it all together. The crust was the perfect crunch/soft ratio, and I could not have asked for more. Likewise, I have much praise for the cubano sandwich- the roasted pork in it was impeccable! read more

Maynards - If heaven was a pizza - Sandwiches Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I love what they did with this market! They have a good deli with a full menu. They support local vendors, such as Tucson tamale's, Isabelle's ice cream and many more. I found that they have a good beer, wine and cheese selection. Plus, it's a good, laid back atmosphere to hang out and enjoy either a meal, snack or just a craft beer. The staff are great too. We've been a couple times and felt kind of awkward trying to figure out where to order what. Like I wanted a Bloody Mary and my husband coffee we had to go to 2 different areas, but were waited on by the same person kind of thing. I think they are working out the kinks though. We have gone to Maynard's market 2 times in the last week. Once for a snack. We got pickles and an olive assortment. Very tasty. Then another time for breakfast. I got the baked oatmeal and absolutely loved it. It tasted like a oatmeal cookies! I wanted to ask if and how much sugar was in it, but held my tongue. My husband got a breakfast sandwich and iced coffee. He wasn't impressed and probably only ate about half of the sandwich. His major complaints were that that biscuit was thick and the bacon was fatty. It was a great breakfast experience, we'll be back to try some other goodies! read more

Me and my boyfriend have been wanting to try Maynards for a while and decided to go on a Friday night during restaurant week. We got off to a rocky start after being seated. We weren't given the restaurant week menu and when we asked to see it the waiter explained how they "ran out of food" for the restaurant week items and ended it last night. Restaurant week is supposed to go on til Sunday, so they basically decided to stop participating in it for whatever reason when they felt like. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and went over it with us. We started off with the corn chowder and an order of the macaroni gratin with bacon. The corn chowder tasted really good but only have a few pieces of actual corn and no crab like the menu described. The macaroni gratin wasn't anything special and there was hardly any bacon in it. Maybe the kitchen really was short on food/ingredients. For the entrees I ordered the lamb shank that was recommended by the waiter. The creamy saffron orzo and chimicuri beets that came with it were amazing. The lamb shank was okay but I wish they would have given me less lamb and more of the orzo. My boyfriend got the seared scallops and collard greens with bacon. The scallops weren't seared correctly, there was no crust on it. And the collard greens were bland with barely a hint of bacon. We skipped dessert because nothing sounded good. Service overall was okay. It was slow enough that we noticed it was slow but not so bad we were annoyed. To give you an idea how slow- we had reservations at 730 and didn't get our appetizers until 840. Random note: What is up with the yellow crayons? It's dark so you can't see the yellow on the paper anyway. To sum it up: Over it. There are better places to eat in Tucson. read more

Maynards has a great look and it is right next to the train station. There is a deli side and a restaurant side. Service was attentive. Wine list well appointed. We wanted to like it better... Here is the downside...the particular meal we had was only ok. We did start with the Frites (French fries) which were tasty and yeah, truly low brow. Buy hey, we were in the mood. The Pork Schnitzel was only ok. Some of the parts were cool. Flavors did not pop. My halibut was on a bed of white beans and then something sweet (roasted grapes for one thing) which just made for a fussy dish. I love halibut, but not sweet. And the beans tended to wash flavors out. Not a fan of that dish. We may have ordered badly. Small nit on service, they took our orders wrong but that was quickly taken care of. Weird to see what came initially. Waiter apologetic, and offered more glasses of wine, but we had to pass as we were driving. Tuscon has a lot of great places to eat and perhaps this was an off night. But for us, it didn't work, and it was pretty expensive. Won't be back. read more

I've been going to the summer wine tasting at Maynard's summer, and I capped it off with some girlfriends by going to the Arizona Wine Dinner Friday night - I am SO glad I did! I can say it was one of the best dinners I've had in a VERY long time! It was so elegant in their upstairs room with white table clothes and a great view of the city. Each was explained to us by the chef - I love build up of excitement before each course, each wine was explained was given an explanation as well. Everyone was local within a few miles away, and unbelievable mouth-watering!! We started with local greens with house made bacon and Lusby's honey, pecan's and jalapeno vinaigrette, then was a mesquite flour crepe with squash from Sleeping Frogs Farm, it was topped with the most delicious goats milk béchamel - this was my favorite course, the third course was beef with a pomegranate demi-glace, pepita pesto, and nopalitos, WOW! Desert was a corn cake with a prickly pear and line compote - there was a piece of honeycomb on it too... each was a perfect combo - we had such a wonderful time!! It was a perfect evening!! Nothing could have been improved on - it was just perfect!!! read more

I was walking around downtown with a friend and realized we were hungry. Maynards had food, which was great. We cleared out plates...because so hungry! My friend also go a glass of wine, which was great if you are into that kind of thing. Thanks a bunch Maynard. Also of note, they did charge us money. read more

My fiancé and I stopped here with his mom for a quick dinner before seeing a show at the Rialto recently. The atmosphere of this place is so quaint and inviting. We ordered our sandwiches and sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and our sandwiches arrived quickly. Erik's mom and I both had the caprese sandwich, which I'm still dreaming about-it was THAT good; while Erik enjoyed his reuben. We'll be back again soon! read more

I am such a fan I am having my wedding rehearsal dinner here! The food is delicious! Everything I have had either at the market or restaurant is great. The drinks are really good too and they tend to be strong. If you're looking for a casual stop for happy hour and a snack I'd suggest the Market. If you want a fancy dinner date I'd recommend the Restaurant. The waiters are very friendly and helpful on the menu and drink. Try Tequila's Dirty Sister...it is great and will get you buzzed off one drink (worth the money)! I'll be back here again and again! read more

I am giving them 3-stars only because I know they can do better. We loved Maynard's, but I am sad to say it has lost its standing for me. First, if they ever suggest eating upstairs, don't! It reminds me of a cheesy Holiday in restaurant. There are too many other wonderful restaurants in Tucson to have dinner instead of eating in their "second" dining room. Second, The food came out so fast we felt like we were being shoved out the door before we even sat down. Bad form. I don't care how busy the restaurant is, every customer that comes to Maynard's is expecting a nice long 3-4 course leisurely dinner, not a rush job. We will go back and try again, but we will never be seated for dinner in the "second" dinning room. read more

Ok it's a bit pricey for what you get off the regular menu. Now go for there happy hour menu which they serve almost all night long and we are talking steak tartare 12$ ,pomefritte 6$ , pizza patayoe to margarita for under 12$ and the beer 4$ it's all under a beautiful terrace with great lights and sounds of the big trains trekking in to Tucson. The staff attentive to the maybe degree but there not rude just busy. Valet parking and a whole bunch of perks. Did I mention the atmosphere in or out will make your glad you visited the old train station in Tucson . Thursday afternoons yhis location the big train is coming about Tucson so it a great time to stop and taste for your self some good Frenchamerican bistro read more

I went to their happy hour on a pleasant weekday afternoon and the outdoor patio was fantastic. But ... well, obviously not in the summer because it's too hot! I went in the Fall so the weather was still nice. Sit outside! They have fantastic pizzas at an incredible happy hour price. The pizzas ARE NOT in their regular menu so make sure you go during HH. They also have a late night HH so check that out too. Great prices on drinks. All about that HH. I got champagne and Rose and each for 5 bucks - GREAT DEAL! Service was great, but if you're outside and they're really busy things might just a little slow service wise. read more

We LOVE Maynards. We started going shortly after it opened. It's now our 'go to' favorite place for special occasions or to entertain out of town guests. So far, this has been a hit with everyone we have taken here. We have never had a bad meal at Maynards. Service, food, everything has been stellar. You can keep your food bill to a decent amount for sure, but if you are going go go all out, it can get pricey if you do apps, mains, drinks, dessert. We just went and it was 3 people, $140.00 which included apps, mains, 2 beers, 2 cocktails, dessert and coffee. I didn't think that was bad/too pricey - but it can add up. There are more expensive places for sure. I find their price points to be on the mark. We absolutely love the decor as well -kind of steampunkish, old-time train station (it is located at the actual Amtrack train station) with amber lighting, great double-pain windows (they are insulated so you can see the trains go by but not really hear them). It's just a great vibe. Service is always friendly and the wait staff knowledgeable about dishes, specials, how they are prepared, the ingredients, etc. They are not overly chatty or snobbish about it -just helpful and informative, which we appreciate. Some of the best food we have eaten there was the Chanterelle Cream of Mushroom Soup, Oxtail, duck, red trout, and on this most recent visit, the pork Schnitzel. It was to die for ... simply divine. The dessert Trifle we shared was lovely - light, creamy, fresh and not overly sweet. The lemon tart with raspberry compote we had a few months ago was also lovely. They have a decent wine selection at decent prices. I'm not a stickler for wine/not an expert ... I don't get hung up on wine. They also have a full bar and have some nice creations. The menu for both food and drink rotate throughout the year, so they may not have certain items all the time. This is okay with us. We appreciate an establishment that allows innovation and creativity in the kitchen and allows the chef to work his/her craft. Maynards is no exception, and in fact, is very forward thinking and progressive in this regard. We have always enjoyed our visits to Maynards. We love food and they never disappoint. We also love the atmosphere and ambiance. The lighting is warm, not bright; it's intimate and romantic for couples, but also laid back and private/quiet for friends. It's a classy place. Enjoy! read more

This is a review of the Farmer's Market at Maynard's: As I'm sitting here, trying to do my Chemistry homework I am delightfully distracted by the woman with the sweet voice and twangy guitar. This open air market has great potential. I can take care of a weeks worth of veggies, meat and dairy here for about 60 bucks. That's a little expensive considering I had to go elsewhere for my fruits, but there's just something about supporting AZ farmers and artisans. Maybe it's the fact that I can ask them how the veggies were grown, and get a straight answer. Maybe it's the way the way the all natural grass fed beef tasted in my tacos the other night. Whatever it is, it's worth taking my hard earned cash and handing it over to another who is working honestly and hard for that cash. Yes, I am in love with supporting Tucson culture! The market is clean and all the vendors are super friendly! I can't wait for it to fill out as there is much empty space toward the back of the market (CALLING ALL FRUIT VENDORS!). Okay, back to Chem. read more

The updated market is awesome. They have beer and wine on draft, and now there's actually an inviting bar to drink it at. They have an updated menu as well, and they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's sandwiches that you can order and wait for, or grab and go options in deli cases. The wine tastings are still happening, though in the winter they're monthly, not weekly. The remodeled market is definitely going to work its way into my regular Tucson location. read more

Really decent food for a really decent price. I love that they have the sandwiches mostly prepared, but undressed. That makes them nice and fresh even when they are mostly made ahead of time. The food bar (salad plus tons of items) looked quite good. I almost got it, but the sandwich was too good looking to pass up. Avocado can't be wrong! I thought charging $1 extra for eggs at lunch is kinda BS since there were tons of people ordering them. I mean extra charges are for abnormal orders or things that they put away, but the eggs were none of that. read more

This review is for the market. It's recently reopened and every menu item is under $10. The long & short of it: It's a fantastic space with a surprisingly large amount of food choices. First, the food. The food choices themselves are sophisticated twists on classic sandwiches, pizzas, soups & salads. I enjoyed my marinated ahi tuna bahn mi, and my guy liked the kale salad with pancetta. We ended the evening with a cookie stack (4 cookies for $2.50!) and a scoop of Isabella's Ice Cream. They also keep Isabella's in the freezer if you want to take some home! They serve beer, wine and all kinds of little local treats. It seems they also house-make all their bread! Next, the space: It's a very spacious, open feeling rectangular store. The kitchen & bar are in the center, so each side basically has something different. One has the food menu, and all the baked treats looking delicious behind glass. The next short end has desserts and refrigerated items, on the backside is a long bar area, and coming around the other side is a coffee area and a large shared dining table. Tables line almost all the walls - you can sit and face outside toward Toole or toward the train tracks. I went at night, but I'm certain by day it would be a lovely view. All in all, it is a really gorgeous space, with lots of people watching and reasonably priced food. The service was quick, so it's great for a meal on the go, or just an alternative to the pricier restaurants downtown. Two thumbs up, I'll definitely come back. They offer a MMM discount (Meet Me at Maynard's), too! read more

Wonderful! My husband and I came for our anniversary and had a fabulous evening! This was our first visit, so the whole parking/market/train thing threw us off, but once we found our seats on the patio, everything was smoothed out. We started with a beet salad and wow... just amazing. It had the right amount of citrus mixed with a variety of beets, and the bit of Bree set the dish out perfectly. My husband complained a little about the menu, that there was nothing that "looked good" to him, and I can see why. If you are looking for something simple and low-key, go elsewhere! He finally decided on a filet, and it was just not that flavorful. The fries were good, but not super-duper. On the other hand, I had a sea bass special and it was amazing! Perfect crispness outside, tons of flavor, and served with a heavenly rice and wilted greens - Yum! Service was good. Our server even brought heater over (it might have been 70 degrees) because we were cold. The atmosphere was just beautiful on the patio, a really great arrangement. Next time, I'd love to see more of the inside. We will be back for another special occasion dinner! read more

Great food. Went there for happy hour and the highlights were the mussels, poutine and beverage selection. Beautiful venue and great service as well. After having tried the steak tartar, chef's cheese plate, lobster mac and cheese, poutine, french fries, and mussels, it is safe to say this place has consistent food. All of these were good, however the cheese board was a little underwhelming. Also would highly recommend for people who are into cocktails, beer, or wine. Great selection. read more

This place is VERY good. Would have gotten 5 stars, but there were some miscues with the service. When we went they had what they were calling their "Gem Show" menu which had an assortment if apps, salads, soups, pizzas and 4 entrees. Our group had one of each entree. The fish was was the least popular, but the half chicken, braised rib and fried gnochi, we all delicious. The atmosphere was very cool. We'll certainly go back. read more

Service: our waiter was funny, polite, and helpful. He knew a lot about the wines and had good recommendations. Drinks: we had the Arizona Malbec and I had the tower station IPA, both were fantastic. Food: the appetizers were good but not memorable. The poutine was a bit of a different take on it, though we still enjoyed it. Everyone enjoyed their entrées, which is the most important part. Overall we'd come back again and loved the vibes. read more

This place is hands down one of the best restaurants in Tucson. It's a very intimate atmosphere inside with really awesome touches from the old Amtrak station. The staff is second to none with some of the most professional service with unmatched personality and friendliness. On top of all of that the menu is always incredibly unique and tasty. With of course our all time favorite Maynard's mule. read more

I just really like this place. Every meal I've (under both chefs) had was excellent, and the counter and wait staff have always been helpful and knowledgeable. I have also never been to an inexpensive restaurant where I run into the owners nearly every time I visit. Good energy, great food, a mostly local small market. The owners really *get* Tucson. The last meal I had was the Cuban pulled pork sandwich, which was perfectly yummy. read more

I value consistency in restaurants. Maynard's food and service has been consistent. Been here eight or nine times. Food choices, food taste, service, all strong. Atmosphere - interesting and comfortable without saying "oh look how daring our decor is." (dangling participle intended.) Four-and-one-half stars. If I needed to use one word - Integrity. read more

The food tends to be good however the management is rather terrible. We chose Maynard's this evening because of a special that they advertised on Facebook. We made reservations on opentable and made our way to the restaurant. When we arrived we requested the special and they said we had to go to the market for that appetizer. The manager came over to explain in a complete condescending manner. Our server said he was sorry but at least the wine will be better than what is served in the market. After dinner we discovered the wine we had was on their menu as well but 1/3 the price at the market. What a crazy way to do business and try to scam your customers. Very disappointed with the treatment from management and false advertising. read more

Maynard's oh my. Where to start. This is my kinda place! Situated in downtown T-town on the railroad tracks, Maynard's has a Pullman style bar/restaurant next to its marketplace which also features a bar and happy hour of its own. Now that I live in Phoenix, Maynard's is one of the Tucson places I miss the most. It's a great place to grab lunch. It's not the sit down experience of the restaurant. You order at the counter, they give you a number then bring your food. That doesn't change the fact that the food is awesome! I usually get the grilled cheese because it's so delicious, but I did opt for the Cubano on one visit and was just as happy. You'll probably have to sit outside as there's not much room inside, but on a beautiful Tucson day their patio is awesome! Be forewarned that the train will come by and interrupt conversation for a minute or two. My favorite part about Maynard's is happy hour! I'm not sure if it's still the same times, but last time I went in May it was daily from 3-8. Definitely get the burger and pizza and wash it down with one of their great happy hour drinks. I also love the ambiance of the bar. It definitely feels like you are in a city like New York. My only qualm with Maynard's is brunch. My husband and I went with another couple for brunch once and were so underwhelmed. The service was spotty, the food took a long time, and when it finally came, no on had much to say other than "it's okay." tl;dr: skip brunch, come for lunch, stay for happy hour. read more

Wow! I can still taste the delicious bites I had here. We started with the steak tartare and foie Gras toast. Both were Devine. Delicious flavor in the tartare, perfect seasoning. The foie Gras toast almost tasted like a chicharron. But it was bread! Divine! The foie gras was perfect velvety texture and left is with great umami feeling. I had the bouillabaisse and hubby had the duck! I wish I had ordered the duck but the menu description detoured me. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so flavorful. The bouillabaisse had good base broth but was a basic seafood dish. I think next time I'll try the quail. And there will definitely be a next time! Lemon goat cheese cheesecake for dessert was a perfect bite. Not to tart or overly sweet. You could taste the goat cheese, which I loved! The rosemary on the crust gave a nice twist to the bite. I highly recommend this place. Make reservations to avoid a wait. And they have valet parking in case you are detoured by the downtown location. read more

The Market is a go-to spot to grab a quick and delicious lunch. Plenty of seating indoors and outside on the patio or take it to go. Unique selection of beverages, some locally made. While the quality of the food at Maynards is generally good, their customer care can be sub-par, and that became very evident at a recent dinner. We and another couple had a pre-theatre dinner at the restaurant. Both of us ordered the Bistro salad. But a critical component of the dish, the bacon lardons, were missing from one order. Bacon is what makes this salad appealing. Our server had disappeared for some time and so our guests, with our concert start time looming, could wait no longer and ate the incomplete salad. Verbal apologies were heard when the server returned finally to clear the dishes, but nothing more - no visit from a manager, and when the bill came, no acknowledgement of their error: no drink taken off the bill nor, as should have been done, was the salad removed from the tab. And just to add insult to injury, despite at arrival informing our server that we were theatre-bound and so needed to be out by 7:30, our checks came late and in error. They had charged each couple for the other couple's meal. But running behind, we just paid and left, arriving at our concert late. Overall a very disappointing and unsatisfying dining experience at Maynards. read more
