I found out about Mayback's Deli through Yelp one Friday afternoon while craving fish fry quite badly. I'm picky about my fish fry; there were only two places (now three) that I trust enough to make fish fry exactly to my taste. Sadly, the first two places were quite a drive from me, and I was hungry. Other Yelpers had offered raving reviews for Mayback's Deli, so I figured I should give it a shot. I must admit that Mayback's Deli's exterior and interior were not what I had expected. Located on a strip mall, it looks more like a convenient store than a deli, and its interior setup seems to support that first impression with shelves of canned goods, chips, and snacks, and coolers along the back wall. The only indications that it is a deli are the kitchen in the back and the few booths in the middle of the store. I was skeptical and was a bit apprehensive while I made my order. I am glad to say that I was wrong to doubt. While I ate my dinner that night, all I could think of was, "Where have you been all my life?" My fish fry was delicious; crispy and moist and perfectly cooked and not at all smelling fishy, it was everything a good fish fry should be. Bonus point for big portion accompanied by loads of good fries. My husband got the scallop dinner, which consisted of six jumbo scallops as perfectly cooked as my fish, along with fries. I was back at Mayback's Deli the following week for some sandwiches, and they too, were quite delicious. I'm now fully convinced that there's no "ordering the wrong thing" at this place. I can only say I recommend Maybacks solely for the Friday fish fry. A generous filet of beer battered haddock with a choice of sides-fries, and coleslaw are my go to. The rest is up to you, deli fare available from hot meals to sandwiches of infinite variety. A great traditional Mom and Pop style deli in a sea of chains and franchises. read more

Amazing breakfast sandwich. My new go to. Weighed about a lb, every part of it was delicious. What separates the sandwich here over other places is they put the hash brown right on the sandwich, giving each bite a nice crunch. I went with the ham which was delicious, friend went sausage which he said he loved too. Owner told me you can get sandwich with a variety of cheeses which transforms the sammy itself. Will be coming here a lot more often. read more

I was here 3 or 4 times when I lived in Amherst, and it was nice that it existed even though it didn't really do anything for me. I was last in here in 2011 or so. This is a Deli, but it's not Krohn-Dehli of Denmark. They serve deli sandwiches and other goodies, but it's a convenience store more than a hot food store or prepared food place. I remember not being particularly impressed, but if you're into sandwiches and delis, there aren't that many in these parts to choose from, so it's worth stopping in and giving it a try. More expensive than it used to be, and it has definitely changed over the past few years (like everything else). But still, great food! You won't be dissapointed. Delicious..... Just a little convenience store in a strip mall. With an incredible deli! I ordered a "mini" Reuben which costs 4.67 after tax and I got a huge 8 inch sandwich good enough for 2 meals. The entire family seemed to be working and the place was very warm and inviting. The Reuben was in my top five. Def recommended. And I can't wait to go again. Possibly the best breakfast sandwich in buffalo!! My weekend favorite is a bacon, egg and cheese with a hash-brown on it (and the bacon well done, of course). Their sandwiches are so delicious and not too greasy. I've had some other things on their menu like chicken fingers and French fries, and mozzarella sticks.. all of which were great. I love how easy it is to call in your order and pick it up. There is rarely a very long wait. My only complaint is that I wish they were open on Sunday's lol. I'm from nyc and initially had a very hard time finding a BEC that I approved of. So happy I found maybacks! read more

Tonight Mrs. K. and I finally had the opportunity to get some food from Mayback's Deli. I read Yelp reviews some time ago but was never in that neighborhood looking for deli at the right time. Once I stopped by on a Sunday; they are closed on Sunday. A second time I stopped by at about 8:15; they don't open until 10:00. But here we were. We both ordered sandwiches, two sides were fries and potato salad. Well, all I can say is that we were extremely impressed and now understand why the reviews are so good. The sandwiches were among the best we have EVER had in the Buffalo area, much better than the more well known places which are good, but not good like this. They were hot subs and both were piping hot 15 minutes later when we were home and settled. The sides were both excellent. At this point I'm sold. We will be back at Mayback's soon and I urge you to give them a try. read more

Best subs in WNY. Period. Plus the staff is always friendly. I love their little convenient store and how unknowingly delicious they are. Although you can't dine in during COVID, sitting at their booths in their little plant cove in a store that hasn't changed in decades is literally one of my favorite places to eat and hang out. I love Maybacks! I work five min from here and it's hard not to order lunch every single day. I usually go with the classic BLT but have had some other subs and sandwiches too. The wings I've seen others have are really good and even the pizza is pretty decent. It's always pretty fast, maybe 20min max for a pick up order. The highlight is the breakfast sandwiches on a hard roll- so good especially with a hash brown. Makes me wish they were open on Sundays for a hangover cure. read more

I previously tried a sub from here a few years ago and it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. I decided to stop in again this past weekend for a turkey club sub. Wow! The sub was packed with plenty of deli meet and the bacon was tasty. The Costanzo roll was perfectly toasted. There were several other customers but the wait was not long at all. I'm going to be honest, I haven't sampled a ton of the menu. The chicken finger sub at Maybacks is hands down the best I've ever had. When I first sunk my teeth into the crispy roll, I was met with the perfect combination of hot sauce, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and tender white chicken breast. I could not get this sandwich in my mouth fast enough. The rest of my day was filled with awe. I urge you to order their chicken finger sub. A friend of mine got the pizza and said it left some to be desired, but my experience at Maybacks has made me a better person. I've heard they have some of the best breakfast sandwiches in the Northtowns, they're next on my list of items to try from this deli. In a town filled with a million pizza and sub joints this is a true hidden gem. This family owned deli is the type of place I love giving repeat business to. Good quality, portions, and prices. Working retail close-by, we get takeout from them probably twice a week. They are literally batting 1000. No mistakes or issues with orders which is common with other local spots. I have explored the menu, trying items in every category and have never been disappointed. Great sandwiches and subs. I will continue to recommend this place whenever possible. Today was my first time ordering from Maybach's. Coworkers of mine had ordered food from here before (their chicken finger subs are apparently mind blowing) but we decided to get a small pizza and spicy fries to split. The fries were pretty good, but the pizza left me disappointed. I'm pretty sure the crust is pre-made and it kinda tastes like something you'd get from the 7/11...which is fine if it's 2am and your wasted, but not good for Friday afternoon lunch. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't be against trying something else here because there are some great reviews for other menu items, but I def won't be ordering pizza from here again. read more

I would rate Mayback's 10 stars if I could. They are a great deli, and only staff really great people. Majority of the workers have been there a while, so I think that says something in its self. Mayback's is always a great go-to when I don't have a plan for what to cook for dinner, or am simply shopping at Target across the street and want to pick something up on my way home. The menu is very large, from breakfast sandwiches (YUM!!!) to their famous hoagies or fish fry (double YUM!). Brad and I have come here a few times for lunch or dinner subs. They have all your basic subs, yet they are so huge and delish! I highly recommend the Chicken Parm sub.
