Very nice and friendly place with great and flavorful food. Feels like a mom and pop style bodega.

Food was amazing and fresh. Service was good but the waitress didn't speak much English. My friend got wings that were really hot and she asked for ranch and our server brought mayonnaise. Restaurant was clean but kind of just thrown together with a few gnat's lingering. 4/5 would go again!!! read more

Good food good prices clean place Good location great people Love the atmosphere Great place read more

Firstly, the menu! I loved their range of options, only issue is drinks; there's barely any. Service is okay (could be better), + pretty slow. The place isn't the greatest looking but isn't the worst either, there's music playing all the time as-well. My food came out last, took a very long time - another table got their food before mines. Overall pretty mid, wouldn't say it was worth the wait. read more

Unfortunately I had to take two stars due to their customer service when you dine in (Dinner) . You order your food, you get your food and that's it! Your waitress disappeared behind the counter to sit on her phone. I had to go in my vehicle to get my own water. it was ridicules , another couple came after us and they sat there for a long time waiting to put their order in . The place was empty , if it was busy I would've completely understand. I'm thinking the best thing to do is just order and pick up. Their food is really good! read more

I love this spot, the food is so perfectly seasoned. It's definitely authentic and more of a hole in the wall spot. I usually order ahead and take my food to go. In some cultures it's rude for a waiter/waitress to check up on the guests without request, I think that applies here. If you flag them down they're happy to help you. Set your expectations properly or order takeout. Everything doesn't have to be a fine dining experience. You get what you order and it taste's amazing every time. I always get the carne asada or pupusas revueltas with platanos maduro read more

Food was good. I got tajadas de pollo which was amazing. It was a huge plate too! Service was off, it could be better. She didn't check up on us after she served our food. I had to get up to get boxes to go & get my check. read more

You can miss this spot if you're driving along Little Creek and not paying attention. I found this spot on my Yelp search and stopped in one day. There is a little wait so you would be better off calling in your order. They have a wide variety of foods that really didn't seem partial to one area so they will have something for everyone. This is a divey spot and the parking isnt that good but it was worth it read more

Since El Gavilan on Chesapeake closed I've been looking for a place to get Salvadoran papusas. Mayas has them, although not as many choices! Mostly Honduran and Mexican dishes. The food is good, at a fair price. There is no English menu, only Spanish. No alcohol. Service is average. Chips come with bean dip instead of salsa. Six TVs showing a variety of Latino programs and sports. They say it's a bakery too but I don't know. This is a good place to try something more adventurous than your average El Azteca. read more

This is definitely a hole in the wall without pretense. If you set your expectations correctly it will be a great experience. The food is cheap, delicious, and served in large portions. Be prepared to wait a little long for takeout. I will be returning regularly. read more

Food was okay , nothing to write home about & the customer service sucked . I was disappointed.

Service was horrible, i orders 3 mexican tacos, and the waitress said I couldn't order different meats, had to be the same meet, i was upset about that, so i said ok ill take why you have and then... she comes back later so say they ran out of that meat. Never again will i come to this place read more

A hidden gem in Norfolk. The food is incredible and I can't wait to come back. If you are looking for something different try this place out read more

Mayas Restaurant - One of Norfolk 's hidden gems. There is a ton of food and two people cannot possibly eat it all. - Salvadoran Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Called to set up a party and couldn't because I couldn't speak Spanish. That's fine I guess but be warned.

Went here because my cousin was getting a haircut next door. When you walk in it's definitely small, the waitresses kind of stay at the counter and no one seats you or anything. I thought they were gonna bring out chips and salsa or something, but no. I just got the basics three tacos de asada. The food was okay, still searching for the perfect taco place around here. read more

I had the traditional carne asada the meat tasted great little chewy but great flavor the rest of the plate now the rice and beans were cold and bland I didn't care for the salad not my type of salad so no judgment there. My mother had the sopa de res that she loved ! But it really came back to punch her in the butt an hour later and up to three hours later if you get what I'm saying. My dad had the chicken with tajadas he loved them he said they tasted just like home. We also had the pupusas they were GREAT absolutely no bad remarks on them. You have to have the horchata ! It was great really clear taste read more

Food taste very homey! Prices are ok. The outside of the restaurant should be more appealing to the eye. read more

We went in hoping to have a truly authentic food experience: well I'm not fluent in Spanish and not only was the menu almost totally in Spanish, but there was no one there able or willing to translate. If I'd been in Honduras, I might have expected as much ....but in Hampton Roads(?) We left without wanting to take a gamble. The staff seemed not to care that we left either.....all I can say is 'good luck' folks. read more

I will drive from the other end of VA Beach to this restaurant to eat their pupusas, the drive and traffic have always been worth it. Pupusas are good, and the drinks all strong. It can be a little difficult to communicate with the waitstaff (I speak no Spanish), but that adds to the authenticity. read more

Very authentic place, the food is delicious, yes the waiting time is ridiculous but everything is fresh so worth it. But do not expect the waitress check on you or interrupt you to ask if everything its ok, if you need something you need to ask. Still my favorite place.. read more

Food was delicious! Highly recommend the papusas. Willing to sell my soul to consume this for the rest of my life. Portions are huge and the food is super affordable! read more

Food was great. Communication was a problem. Wait staff did not speak or understand English or my broken Spanish. They make some really good tacos and tortillas are fresh and thick homemade corn tortillas. Enjoyed the food but it was difficult to order and everything we ordered got mixed up. I think the place is Salvadoran and not Mexican. Either way, try the food. It is good. read more

I'm a regular here. I always forget to ask for my item in Spanish, because I can't remember. Told the young lady the other day that'll I'll snap a picture of the menu and start practicing more. The food is amazing. My family and I love. read more

Food is good BUT for one when we got there a man walked in and asked us for food and then rudely money. And also I ordered food as did the person I came with and she never put my order in. So I sat there 30mins with no food went up and asked and she said "oh"... and then put my order in. Wasn't busy we were the only customers so I'm really not sure what happened there but that sucked.. read more

Rather unassuming from the look of the place, just a little hole in the wall joint. Walk in and it's like being transported back to Centeral America and my favorite little restraunt there. Don't expect any Americanized services, no chips and slasa while you wait or even a waiter to be overly attentive. Walkin, get the attention of the gal behind the counter then go sit down. A menu will arrive shortly. No, the wait staff is not going to bring you a water (or anything for that matter)until you ask for it. Once you order the generous portions of food will arrive and this might be the last time you see your waitress/waitor unless you know to wave them over. It was the same way in Centeral America so I don't mind but someone unaccustome to it might take offence as they are not being checked on every so often. Personally I love it. The last thing I need when engaged in conversation is overly attentive waitstaff. The food is authentic, hot, cooked to order and delisious. The food is what you will find in Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras if you would like to try something truly authentic I highly recommend Maya. read more

This is the quintessential whole in the wall. Though I am Cuban, which has Caribbean influences vs. some South American countries. This place reminded me of home-shamelessly big portions; it's not about the decor; its about good company and good food. Delicious! read more

Excellent place and great customer service. I had a beef soup and so far it's been the biggest bowl I've ever gotten from a restaurant. It was delicious and tasted just like it was homemade. Flavorful food with more than enough portions. Love it. Will be coming back when in Norfolk. read more

Weve ordered food for pick up twice from this place and both times they have gotten the whole order wrong..i ordered the fried pirk chop with rice and beans of course they gave me a baked pork chop no rice with eggs cheese and avacado of course none of which i like at all i dont recommend this place at all...how can you get a whole order just completely opposite of what you asked for. read more
