The food is always amazing, we are frequent in this location. My steak fajita is not so good today it was not tender but everything else in our order was good. You cannot beat a free chips. And the servers were all friendly as always. The restaurant looks very mexican traditional and clean. Price is very reasonable as well. read more

El Azteca Mexican Restaurant - The taco that you should totally try - Mexican Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Been coming here for years! Service is always super quick and the food is always good. They have Spanish music playing in the background which is always fun to listen to. By the time they bring you the chips and dips (which you gotta have white dip obvi), your food will be there within like 5 minutes. My go to is the fajita taco salad. The best part is eating the shell once you finish the salad. If I'm feeling crazy I'll get some jalapeno poppers. The jalapeno poppers come with lettuce and cheese which I don't think is entirely necessary but fine nonetheless. On this occasion we didn't get alcoholic drinks, but their margaritas are fantastic. You can't go wrong with any flavor. read more

Definitely not like the places Im from... Chile Relleno tasted like it had Velveeta cheese inside and it looked and tasted depressing. Queso and tortillas need to be paid for Idk if its standard in Virginia for places to charge for queso an tortillas but where Im from its standard that its free and unlimited. I wasnt expecting it to be authentic obviously I mean its Tex Mex but wow this place definitely caters heavily toward the American palate. 2 questions, why does the rice taste soulless and why is there parm cheese on some of the entrees?? Use Cotija bruh.. Edit: thinking back on it I should have known this place was heavily white washed when I saw the menu had parts with pronunciations... (CHU-LOO-PUH) ridiculous ‍ Edit #2 WTF WAS THAT WHITE SAUCE?!?!!?! Thats another thing I have never seen till being in VA, it tasted like ranch blended with crema? It was gross and I pray to never see it again. read more

Food and service always excellent! Friendly servers. Relaxed vibe with a quick cook. Extensive menu.

Went on a Monday evening around 5:30 and there were a decent number of patrons and more when we left. We were seated immediately and service was very prompt and friendly. Food was good and served hot. I had the chicken fajitas and they were good. Only wish the tortillas were freshly made. Overall, happy with the food and service and would visit again. read more

THIS IS THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT in the entire region... hands down, no contest. If you know and appreciate authentic Mexican food--true flavor, real technique, and recipes that taste like they came straight from a Mexican kitchen--this is your place. If you prefer the watered-down, copy-paste "Mexican" food from a chain... well, Jose Tequilas is right down the street. Bless your heart. But if you want the real deal, read on: My Must-Try Recommendations: 1. The Frozen Margaritas -- THE BEST. Order the Jumbo Texas Frozen Margarita with salt. Trust me, it's dangerously good. 2. Shrimp Quesadilla -- LEGIT. Packed, flavorful, perfectly grilled. No one else comes close. 3. Chips & Salsa + the White Sauce + Queso This trio alone could be a standalone reason to come back. The white sauce? Magical. 4. Enchiladas Yolandas Soft, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. 5. Tacos de Pescados (soft corn tortillas) Add lettuce and crema... thank me later. Absolutely amazing. And this is just a glimpse of what I order on repeat. I LOVE this place. It's family-owned, the staff has been there for years, and the consistency is unmatched. You can taste the pride and care in every dish. Do I have wishes? Sure--I'd love to see a Mariachi band occasionally and maybe some branded hoodies (yes, I would absolutely buy one). Other than that... **I WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING. ** Try it for yourself, support an authentic local gem, and let the amateurs head down the street to the chain restaurant. El Azteca is the real one. read more

El Azteca has excellent food and the most efficient service of any restaurant I've dined in. We usually bring the chips and red/white salsas home because our orders arrive so fast. I recommend any of the combination plates, you will definitely get enough to eat. read more

Still our family go to for Tex Mex food. Made to order, served hot and fresh with a smile. Chips, salsa, and white salsa are our 757 fave. Did I mention the people who know us and take exceptional care to serve food they're proud of. We mostly go for lunch but recently went for my wife's birthday. Out of anywhere, she wanted Azteca. That says a lot. Our family faves still are Chicken Fajita quesadilla and beef taco salad. read more

The food was on point, I always prefer my quesadillas free of peppers, onions, tomatoes etc. Even though they make it known on the menu the meat is cooked with those ingredients, they still got it perfect for me! My boyfriend noted that the beans in the combo were some of the best he's had. The service was so quick even on a busy Saturday night, very great servers with a manager keeping eye on every table! You will not go unnoticed or unappreciated here, love the food and vibe so much. We'll be back! read more

It could be because I'm from Arizona but the quality of the steak I got . It seem like the cheapest steak on market . Never been to a Mexican restaurant where I didn't enjoy the food . And I also was overcharged about 20 bucks . Didn't mention it was just ready to leave . read more

Sadly I was a little disappointed in my last visit. I have frequented for years and generally order steak tacos asada. On this visit they served them on a taco holding platter with 3 soft tortillas with a miniscule amount of beef in each one. No lettuce or pico to accompany it and a plate of refried beans. Not like before when the plate was full of tender steak bites with the tortillas wrapped in foil. Looks like they have really cut back. Not sure I will be coming back after 20+ years of patronizing. read more

Quick visit with a friend! Don't be afraid; there's way more parking in the back. Quickly seated and accommodated. The queso + chips & salsa were delicious. We finally found an authentic tasting Mexican restaurant! My husband stopped in to pick up our takeout order and came home reporting that this will be a good date night spot because of its liveliness and cleanliness. I was not able to eat all of my food because the portions were so big, placing it in the fridge for lunch a couple of days later. After warming it up in the toaster oven it was almost better than it was the night we picked it up. this is definitely our number two favorite in the area. read more

I haven't visited El Azteca since my college days, but it also means they've been in business for a long time. They are obviously doing something right just because of that. It's been a long time since I dined here but with them being close to my parents' house we decided to head over to celebrate Father's Day (on 6/16/19). They were packed but we lucked out because we were still seated immediately. There were 4 of us - my dad, mom and my maternal uncle, who was visiting from the Philippines. Service is always good; like many of the local Mexican restaurants I've visited, the waitstaff uses a team effort to assist their patrons. We saw a multitude of people at our table - one to sat us; one who took our drink order, then our food order; one who dropped off the food and drink; one who bussed our table when we were done eating; one who dropped off the check; and so on. They are on top of things and definitely understand the concept of sense of urgency. Food is excellent, too. I ordered a carnitas dish which was served with rice, beans a small salad and tortillas. I devoured my food - I was hungry but it was easy to eat something that tasted delicious. So if you're hungry and don't have a lot of time to eat, then head over to El Azteca. They are fast, friendly and their food is delicious. And most impressive - they are consistent. JV read more

We are a party of 4, ages 54, 50, 15, and 14. We rarely all agree any given restaurant was all good, or all bad... But I am happy to report we all agree El Azteca of E. Little Creek NEVER fails us. It is the most consistent and always good Mexican restaurant we know of, and we tried just all of them in the area. Our server was a young lady, who was bubbling with perkiness, smiles, and the desire to please. That added to the whole experience tonight. This has been our go-to Mexican for decades, and tonight didn't disappoint. The food came out in record time, seemed like 5 minutes, and everything was fresh as hot and plentiful. We all left full and happy. read more

My husband and I always come here for our quick fix of Mexican food and when I say quick, I mean quick! They have the best service - very attentive and super fast. We always get seated immediately, greeted almost instantly with chips and salsa/white sauce and after maybe 5 minutes of ordering, food is ready! The food is consistently good and the prices are reasonable. Today we ordered the fajitas for 2 for $30 consisting of steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo. Really good deal for the quantity and quality of food. We got stuffed and still had leftovers for both our lunches the next day. I don't really have any complaints here aside from the margarita being a little too sour for my liking and likely just marg sour mix. read more

This is a killer good taco and enchilada spot. The service is outstanding. You are seated immediately. Waiter arrives promptly to take the order without a mistake. Drinks come out within a minute (even margs). Food I swear comes out in about 5 minutes. They truly cater to your every need and have seamless team work. Get us in, get us fed and get us drank, and we go happily on our way. Also of many "nicer or fancier establishments" should take note. El Azteca has this down to a science with customer service and good hot food. I can see why the place is never empty. read more

This place has been here so long...if I have the opportunity to get fried ice cream, I'm doing it. I always, always get full of chips and dip. The white sauce is yummy and not the weird mayonnaise type stuff other Mexican restaurants serve. The tamales are on point and are my personal favorite. They're also pretty inexpensive, which is an added bonus. The drinks are smooth and potent. Finally, the dessert menu is short but delightful. read more

My first time... all that! I enjoyed everything! I have heard many great things about this place, but hadn't visited until a week or so ago! I am definitely a fan! I dined here on a Saturday late afternoon and everything was on point. I was immediately greeted upon entering and seated within seconds. I sat at a booth, but free standing tables are available as well. Once I was seated a cute waiter arrived within seconds... ready to take the order.... chips and salsa and a white sauce arrived a few seconds later... I am just so impressed with the timeliness of everything. Food order was placed and it was delivered to the table in under 15 minutes. I had a few special request for my order and it was on point! NO complaints at all. The restaurant was clean on the inside and out... the staff was friendly and the waiter was attentive throughout the dining experience. Outdoor seating is available. The parking lot area seemed fairly minimal unless there is parking behind the restaurant. But it was all good, I recommend you give this place a try. I'm looking forward to returning to try something alcoholic and refreshing! Have fun and enjoy life :) read more

I love it. It's amazing you will not regret it I promise. BEST MEXICAN IN NORFOLK. Service is A1

My friends and I went to this restaurant and we ordered Jumbo Skinny Margartias.  The Margaritas came and I swear they had ZERO alcohol in them. We told the waitress and she made no attempt to add alcohol or remake the drink. The price for  a Jumbo Margarita on the menu was $15.99 and we assumed the cost would be roughly the same. We were SHOCKED when the price for the skinny was $25.99. When I called the restaurant to see if they would refund the drink or offer a credit for a new drink I was told by the Manager that they would never do that and I was just "wasting his time." So basically, I paid $30 with the 12.5% food tax for a virgin margarita. STAY AWAY! We came with a large group of friends--about 15 of us. Considering the size of our group, the restaurant was very accommodating! We had a cozy corner with a large table and a booth and we had a good time. Food was decent! My SO thought her steak was just ok, but we both agreed that my carnitas were tender and pretty tasty. The frozen margaritas was sweet (a little too much for me) but good. It was typical Mexican restaurant food, good but nothing special. Service was friendly and attentive; we were never hunting for a waiter. We enjoyed our experience and would be back if invited, just wouldn't come out of our way. read more
