I'm not exactly sure how to start this but I think Jose Tequila might have downsized their menu or maybe they just don't offer a lunch menu anymore? Either way this is still my go to lunch spot. It's close to work usually not too crowded and always hits the spot. Inside was really clean and they have a lot of tv for us sports fans. The first photo is my old favorite the burrito bowl which I ordered all the time. The second photo is their birria. I'd been wanting to try it for a while but never really craved it at lunch until now. With the menu changes I finally gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. I celebrated Cinco de Mayo at Jose Tequila's with my friends and we had an eventful yet fun experience. Thankfully, my friend was able to get us seated outside fairly quickly so we didn't have to wait too long because it was definitely packed. As we looked over the menu, we noticed servers continuously walking past us. We were seated for at least 20 mins before we had to stop someone to take our order. Thankfully, we knew what we wanted to order, since we had ample time to look over the menu, so we ordered everything at once. The drinks came out after about 10 mins and were great. The food was served shortly after and was delicious as well. There were a few things that we asked for that we never received and my friend ordered a side of rice that didn't come out until we were packing our "to-go" boxes. We expected the servers to be busy due to the occasion but it would've been nice if we could've at least had someone that was attentive to our table. We went to Jose's for Cinco de Mayo. I don't usually partake in festivities on that day because most Mexican restaurants are busy. That absolutely was the case. Lol. The parking lot looked like we were at a concert! It was people waiting inside and outside. My anxiety was through the roof. But luckily my friend made a reservation, so our wait wasn't as long as others. We caught a few side eyes from people wondering why we didn't have to wait. But stay in your lane, bruh, sis, ma'am, sir!! My friend is a reservation junkie and I love her for that, because it was right on timeeee!!! The inside was packed. Walking through to the patio was an obstacle course. We finally made it to the patio and I appreciated the outdoor seating because it wasn't so overwhelming. We got a good table, but the people across from us got the leaning table of Pisa. The table was broken and slanted. I thought their food was going to slide right into oblivion, but somehow it worked. That table was the last choice or they'd have to wait. (The pic doesn't show how dramatic it was) Lol. I giggled everytime I saw it. The waiters were super slammed. They looked stressed and tired. But they did their best. I'd have to have called out that day, because hell no!! It took about 25 minutes before we got water or chips. I was going to lick the table at one point just to taste something. Omg!! We all decided we better order everything we absolutely wanted at 1 time, because no telling if we'd see a server ever again. I got the carne asada fries. The fries were very under cooked and the meat was chewy here and there. More here than there, ya know. Lol. I wasn't going to dare send it back. Not on this night! I'd probably stick to a chicken dish next time. My friends got cute little buckets of drinks, they looked good. They didn't skimp on the tequila!! We finished our food, then headed out. Cinco de Mayo Crowd? No Problem -- Great Food & Fun Vibes! We visited Jose Tequila's for Cinco de Mayo, and even though it was very crowded, we were impressed with how quickly things moved. We didn't have a reservation and were a party of four, but we were seated outside within minutes. At first, we were a little hesitant because the weather was chilly and looked like it might rain, but it turned out to be just fine. Service was understandably a bit slower due to how packed the place was -- it took a while for our cocktails to arrive, but they were delicious and definitely worth the wait. Our server was kind and helpful, even if a little rushed. I ordered the chicken fajitas with double rice and no beans. The fajitas were really good -- sizzling hot, flavorful, and satisfying. They did forget my extra rice at first, but once I reminded them, they brought it out pretty quickly. No big deal, especially given how hectic the holiday rush was. My friends ordered a variety of dishes -- I know someone had burritos and said they were amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meals and no one had any complaints. The chips and salsa they brought to the table were excellent -- and the portion was huge, which we loved while waiting for our entrees. Came here for dinner with friends before a concert. I was surprised at how packed it was for a Friday around 5pm. We were seated quickly. It took a little while for our order to come out, as to be expected with the amount of people inside. The chips and salsa were really good, the salsa was fresh & the bean dip was good too. Of course I asked for the house hot sauce, which was the perfect kick! I got a steak burrito bowl, one friend got the surf and turf tacos and another got the happy sampler. I'm not really into Mexican food but I do love me some street tacos. I prefer authentic street tacos. I guess you can say I'm very particular about them. I'm also weird about sending food back. I've been here tons of times so I knew they were decent. My friend told me it was taco Tuesday and they had a special of 2 tacos with rice n beans for 12 bucks. I gave her the go ahead. I probably arrived 10 minutes later. My food came out right after I sat down. I looked at my food and was totally confused. My 2 Carne asada tacos consisted of meat and melted cheese. No cilantro and no onions. I asked the waiter since when did they start putting cheese on their tacos. He looked at me with smile and said these were the special. Now if I wanted cheese on my tacos I would go to taco bell. I really think the waiter meant to say that these tacos were special. I personally think they gave me either someone else's messed up order on purpose or it was old and they decided to try and cover it up with cheese. I even looked at the whole menu and not once does it say the tacos come with cheese. Not even on the advertisement for Taco Tuesday. At least my dogs were happy. Fun atmosphere and the perfect place for a dinner out with friends. We came on a weekend evening, expecting for a wait, but were surprised to be seated immediately with a group of 5. Service was fantastic. I sadly didn't catch our server's name, but she was super sweet and always on top of what we needed! They give complimentary chips and salsa, which are great. We ordered queso in addition, which was $10 for the large. It was quite good, but the price seemed high especially since entrees are only a few dollars higher. We all got different margaritas and all opted for their jumbo size. They were great. I got the prickly pear, skinny margarita and would definitely get it again! We all loved that they served lots of fresh fruit in the drinks. For entrees, I got the combo dinner which came with a tamale, an enchilada, a chile relleno and a taco. It was very mediocre, mostly because it all had the same flavor, which wasn't what I expected. The same sauce on everything, so it all tasted more or less the same. I stopped by on my way to Target, they had a sign on the door saying they could only accept cash due to some issues. I had adequate cash by chance and went in. I think there was more staff than customers. I guess not accepting cards was hurting the normal crowd on a taco Tuesday. It took quite a while for my server to come by the table. I was nearly ready to leave. But the server was great once they got there. Food came out super quickly too. Their michelada was good with an interesting rim of spices, salt, and that tamarind syrup. My Mexican rice was also tasty and fresh with a small selection of vegetables in it. The tostada was so-so. There were no beans on the base, instead the shredded chicken was really wet and watery. The shredded romaine and sparse tomatoes were tasteless, even though they were fresh. It wasn't bad, just lacking a lot of flavor. Cheese wouldn't have helped. I also tried a side dish of pineapples with taijin spice. It was so good!! It was a nice portion that would be a great dessert. I ate way too much of it and my mouth is sore from the acid now. I just laugh because there were barely any Latinos and other ethnicities here when my girlfriend and I came here besides white people, so I kinda cringed a little bit. BUT MAN. Margaritas hit hard like a T R U C K. Jose Tequilas is a nice chain restaurant around the Hampton Roads/ VA where they serve you some of the basic Hispanic food. Nonetheless, it was good. We had the Happy Sampler, which included elotes, wings (lol), flautas, and quesadillas. Elote was delicious, but the others were lackluster 8/10 The tacos were also overpriced! Each taco was about 4-6 dollars. Normal Mexican taquerias would charge about half that price. We got the pastor, scallops, and chorizo. There's just something about a nice cheap taco that adds flavor. Anyway, margarita flight was awesome. The servers we're moving so fast to get you in and out it was nerve wrecking. They rush to put the tortilla bowl on the table (and the tortillas were stale-never had that happen before-)and take it off.. they rush with the drinks... the food! I get it ...but dang! So I have a extensive knowledge of tequila. Blanco, Resposado, Anejo, and Mezcals. Jose Tequila's is more than a Mexican restaurant. They know the selection of alcohols, especially the tequila's. They have specials every night of the week. I went on Wednesday for $3 dollar beer and $4 dollars tequila shots. I got a huge $24 dollar burrito that had to be a foot in a half maybe more and thick. It came with chicken and steak, filled with veggies, beans, and rice, with cheese with sour cream. Saying the burrito is big does it no justice.
