Gran Rodeo is located in the Landstown Place Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. The shopping center isn't too big, but there are lots of businesses in here and parking has been pretty limited anytime I have come to this shopping center. When checking in here, I didn't realize I had been here before, but that was over a decade ago. My most recent visit here was on March 7, 2026. With this place being part of a shopping center, it didn't stand out too much from the other businesses there. I didn't see anything with them to pop out from the rest of the businesses there. My mom and I came in here around 4 pm that day. It was pretty busy, but I wasn't surprised since it was a Saturday. It took a few minutes for someone to come to the front desk to get us seated. While waiting for that, I had the chance to look over the specials they have throughout the week too. Since the timing was around St. Patricks Day, they had cards for the 757 Sober Ride program. Once someone came over, we were able to be seated. Shortly after, someone came around with the chips, salsa, and white sauce. We had some of that, and they are pretty similar to other places like this in our area. Our server came over and asked what we wanted to drink, so we did get the drink orders in, along with a Large Cheese Dip as the appetizer while still looking over the menu to decide what we would get. After about five to ten minutes later, we were finally ready to order, which was just after the cheese dip came out. I decided to go with the Burritos Fajitas Chicken (no rice) with a side of pico de gallo, while my mom ordered the Fajita Taco Salad with steak meat. While waiting for the order to come out later, we continued on to what we already had at the table. The Cheese Dip appetizer was good. It really felt like it was just cheese though. Usually there would be a few other things in it too to add flavor to it, at least that has been my experience in other places. In the end, it was still a good dip though. After about 10 to 15 minutes, the entrees came out to the table. They were both hot and looked good. The burritos that I had were good. The chicken in it was nice and tender too. I added pico de gallo to it on top, and I am glad I did, as that helped add more flavor to burritos. The beans were good too, but I don't eat too much of them. I had thought all was good for my mom until we were done and ready for the check. She told me that she didn't really notice any flavor to the Fajita Taco Salad, and the steak that was on it was tough to eat, so she didn't eat much of that part. She didn't really have a chance to address with with staff as they didn't come back around until we were pretty much done. We did say something at that point, but they said she should have said something to make it right. However, how do you do that when nobody came back over until the end? Overall, I would say everything was just okay at best. Just breaking out the parts, I would give the service a two and the food a three. It was the overall experience that made me look at this visit as a two star rating as it could have been better. I probably won't be back here soon as there are several other Mexican restaurants in the area where I have had much better overall experiences. read more

My family and I decided to stop by for dinner. It was a whole section open at first so we were seated right away. But eventually it filled up quickly. So we arrived at the perfect time. They seated us in a booth, but even for 4 people it was tight. So they moved us to a bigger table. All this cushion I'm pushing just wasn't going to work at the first table. Lol!! At first we were forgotten for about 15-20 minutes. But we finally got someone's attention, and he was great!! We ordered fajitas, arroz con pollo, shrimp chimichangas, and a non alcoholic pina colada!! The meat in my mom's fajitas were burnt, so the waiter told the cook,and the cook didn't believe it, so they had to show him. The waiter agreed with us, but the cook had to see for himself. Eventually they sent her a few more pieces of meat. Smh. It shouldn't have been that complicated. I enjoyed my shrimp chimichangas and the grilled onions were good that I ordered on the side. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. The chips and salsa were ok also. The waiter made the experience better. He was chatty and funny which I liked, and very friendly. I can't remember his name but he was wearing bold black glasses and he was cute!! Lol. Wink wink!! The seats at the booths are a little outdated, I sat down and felt I'd fall through. There was no support. They were so bouncy I thought we were at an amusement park on a ride. Lol. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is chill. I'm sure I'll go back. We ordered to-go as our kids have yet to develop taste buds for food other than chicken nuggets. The gentleman who answered the phone asked to put us on a quick hold, and never picked the phone back up. We drive out there still on hold, and when my husband went to order at the counter, he flipped his phone over and was like I'm still on hold lol. The guy was very apologetic and said that he had forgot, but it kind of upset me as I didn't wanna have to wait as long for food. My husband and I ended up sharing the fajita nachos and a side of cheese dip and chips. Food took about 10 minutes. They were not skimpy on the meats and the food was very flavorful. I would easily buy this again to share as the portion was more than enough for two people. Parking could be tricky, depending on the time you go as it's a shared lot with many other stores. Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for a spot to eat. What a great find!! The staff greets you immediately as you walk in the door!! There is plenty of seating for small or large groups. They have great happy hour specials too! They give you a nice basket of warm tortilla chips with salsa and white sauce we ordered a small queso cheese dip with it. The menu has a great selection as well. I ordered the birra tacos and a side of rice! They were very good my only complaint is they could of been a little more crispy they got kind of soggy I could eat the 3rd one. The rice was really good as well. My friend ordered fajitas and said they were one of the best she had. They have a great dessert selection. I tried the fried ice cream. I will say I was a little disappointed. I've had fried ice cream many times from other Mexican restaurants and it's been cinnamon ice cream coated in cinnamon sugar and deep fried with caramel sauce. I'm pleasantly surprised both meat's were very tender seasoned well and it was huge. Took me several attempt's and still never finished it. My son and I had an hour to kill before I took him to school so we decided to try out Gran Rodeo. I'm used to Mexican restaurants having speedy service so I thought we would have plenty of time. We got there exactly when they opened and was seated about 4 minutes after waiting. We did get our chips and salsa immediately after being seated. I would have given them 4 stars but I must say that service was rather slow. Im thinking because we got there so early there was only one waiter working the floors. Like I stated before I'm used to Mexican food coming out rather quickly that's why I chose it. Our food took about 20 minutes to get to us. Gotta say, best place around Virginia Beach for mexican food. It's a little awkward of an entrance/seating area, because it's condensed, but it's got a nice interior. There's some scattered plants, nice booths, and its got good lighting. There was also no wait time for two people at 6:40 on a Saturday night. Our server was very nice, and all of our food got out fairly quick and altogether. The chips and salsa are really good, and so was the rest of the food. Salsa was flavorful and had the smallest amount of kick to it, and if you need more of one, they also have two types of hot sauces on each table. Moving onto food, my dad ordered the steak fajita, and I tried a bite of the meat out of curiosity. I have to say, the meat was very tender, flavorful, and cooked nicely. I got the black bean tacos with a side of rice and refried beans. Definitely one of my favorite black bean tacos I've ever had. All the flavors came together and worked so well together, and it didn't need any salt or extra seasoning. The black bean juice wasn't overwhelming the taco, not making the tortilla soggy or dripping all over your hands. It still dripped, but not as bad as it could've been. It doesn't look like an exciting dish, but surely it's one of the best bites you'll have. The rice was also definitely some of the best I've had at a mexican restaurant ever, very flavorful, not bland, not overcooked, it was just right. The refried beans were just okay, that's the only thing that needed some salt really. We also got drinks, one margarita and one mojito. The margarita was great, highly recommend. My dad claims it's the best one he's had around here. The mojito I got I wasn't much a fan of. I'm used to fruity drinks, so it was different than what I was expecting. This is our go to delivery for Mexican. Normally the food is excellent. This is the first time in the past 10 that we've had an issue. Is there new staff? I'm not sure. The carne asada, I believe is $18, and my wife said the steak was just on the verge of spoiling. Where the meat has that slight gamey taste but is not so bad that you toss it out? What do you do when you're hungry? It's like sure I can call and then they, what? Send a new plate with the same spoiling steak? I felt so disappointed.
